  I keep reading how everyone states to return XmlDocument when you want to return XML. Is there a way to return raw XML as a string? I have used many web services (written by others) that return string and the string contains XML. If you return XmlDocument how is that method consumed by users that are not on .Net? What is the method to just return the raw XML as string without it having being wrapped with <string></string> Thanks!

• Extending Zend_Log for application-specific need

  I am building a Zend Framework application that performs jobs submitted by the user. The actions taken need to be logged to a database. I would like to correlate the job with its log entries. Instead of creating my own logging class, I would like to extend Zend_Log since it provides 99% of the functionality that I need. All I need to do is add a foreign key of the job id to the log data model. Is this possible? I'm also looking for a good example of Zend_Log writing to a database. I haven't searched SO yet. • Scrolling through list element causes text elements to scroll as well

  I'm using a list element with variableRowHeight and word-wrap set to true like in the example below: http://blog.flexexamples.com/2007/10/27/creating-multi-line-list-rows-with-variable-row-heights/ When I scroll through the list with a mouse scrollwheel the text in the listItems also scroll. I know that this is to do with the height of the textField... but I am unsure how to best resolve this issue. Any thoughts are appreciated! The issue that I am experiencing also occurs in the example above.

  There are many ways the value of a <input type="text"> can change, including: keypresses copy/paste modified with JavaScript auto-completed by browser or a toolbar I want my JavaScript function to be called (with the current input value) any time it changes. And I want it to be called right away, not just when the input loses focus. I'm looking for the cleanest and most robust way to do this across all browsers (using jQuery preferably). Example use case: On the Twitter Signup page, the username field's value gets shown in the url "http://twitter/username" below it.

  Hello, I have this following code: $(".preview").find("#panel").each(function(i, val) { var x = "" + $(val).html(); $(x).find(".dmPageHeadline").prepend(" 1 - "); console.log($(x).html()); html += $(x).html(); }); This code iterates through all accordion panels, concatenates its content and add " 1 - " to the header ( class "dmPageHeadline" ). Probably it's a simple detail, but i cannot figure it out... this line $(x).find(".dmPageHeadline").prepend(" 1 - "); doesn't preprend the desired text. Anyone can point me out what is wrong here? • Navigation Dropdown Text Color doesn't work in FF and IE

  Hello, I was able to get the navigation dropdown to show the letters in a different color from the background (white in this case) in Chrome browser. But when I view the same page in IE or FF, the whole background is just all green. Here is an example of such a page: http://www.comehike.com/hikes/hikes_and_groups.php And here is the CSS code that makes the color show up white in Chrome navigation li li a {color:#white; text-decoration:none;} To see the difference, just mouse over the top right where it says "community" or "hikes" Thanks, Alex

• How to optimize indexing of large number of DB records using Zend_Lucene and Zend_Paginator

  So I have this cron script that is deployed and ran using Cron on a host and indexes all the records in a database table - the index is later used both for the front end of the site and the backed operations as well. After the operation, the index is about 3-4 MB. The problem is it takes a lot of resources (CPU: 30+ and a good chunk of memory) and slows the machine down. My question is about how to optimize the operation described below: First there is a select query built using the Zend Framework API, this query is then passed to a Paginator factory that returns a paginator which I am using to balance the current number of items being indexed and not iterate over too much items. The script is iterating over the current items in the paginator object using a foreach loop until reaching the end and then it starts from the beginning after getting items for the next page. I am suspecting this overhead is caused by the Zend_Lucene but no idea how this could be improved.

  Hi, due to testing and time measuring i have to write some kind of log into existing c# winforms code in Visual Studio 2010. I want to hold the changes and the work very small so my question is about replacing text in my call by counting numbers. Lets say i want to past a line like Log.WriteLine(position) many times in the code and then replace "position" with numbers starting from 1 to n in on turn. • How can i allow people in my local network to access the web service in my machine?

  I have coded a web service using the Axis 2 framework and I can successfully invoke it using a test client (SoapUI) on the local machine after publishing the application in JBoss 5. I can post to the WS endpoint from the local machine and get the expected response. Now i want to allow other machines to access the web service. i changed the "localhost" to "my own fixed IP" adress at the end point location, and turned firewall off, but impossible to access the WS. Note : windows Xp SP3. Any idea ? Thanks in advance !!

  I have two projects, both of them data access layers, and both using EF. I have another project calling services related to the two different assemblies. Are there any pitfalls on using two different models on two different databases linked to the same database? I'm asking this because I've been getting this generic "EntitySqlException" could not be resolved in the current scope or context. Make sure that all referenced variables are in scope, that required schemas are loaded, and that namespaces are referenced correctly., near escaped identifier. that does not appear when are run separately but appear when under the same project.

I have a desktop application, and I want that application to be able to sort of "post" some information (i.e. email address, username, user-selected options (just plain text) etc) to an application or "web service" on my ASP.NET web server. • Show data relationship in gridview with dropdownlist or similar?

  I have data coming from two tables with a foreign key relationship - one User table containing users of the web application, and one Page table containing details about pages visited by each user. I would like to be able to view these data in a gridview or the like on a page. It's easy enough to just show the User table data like so (I'm using the Entity Framework and LINQ): UserDBEntities context = new UserDBEntities(); GridView1.DataSource = from user in context.UserSet select new { user.Ip, user.Count, user.Description, user.Referer }; GridView1.DataBind(); But how can I show the Page details? I'm not bent on any particular way of showing it, but the only idea I've been able to come up with is to have a dropdown list for each user in a column. But I can't figure out how to get the page data into such a dropdown list. The tables are associated with the primary/foreign key UserID. Any ideas would be welcome (dropdownlist solution or other)!

  I've created the JS fiddle to demonstrate my problem: http://jsfiddle.net/C8NUf/1/ HTML: <select> <option> Test </option> <option> Another Test </option> </select> Style: select { color: transparent; } In chrome, the selected text "test" is properly blanked out by setting the color to transparent, in IE the test is still black. How could I order them? I probably have to write a many-to-many HQL query with the order-by clause? I though of passing the orderBy field name string to the query, or is there a better solution? Tables are: products, product_catalog, product_product_catalog (associative table) P.S. Using Play! Framework JPASupport for my entities.

This image contains two portion, 35% of image have white color another 65% of image have green color.In this image 2nd portion(green color) i have to display dynamic string , this string size may dynamically updating. But this string dont go first portion(white color) of image. For that i am using UltraLabel control. I have add image in UltraLabel ImageBackground property and TextHAlign set as Right. But here small 15 charecter string means appear only second portion(green color), 20 charecter string means appeaer second & first portion. I don't want to display first portion of image. Thanks

• Linq to Entities strange deploying behavior.

  Hi I started building apps with this technology and I am facing a weird problem... on some machines I need to add theese lines to the app.config to get to work: <system.data> <DbProviderFactories> <add name="MySQL Data Provider" invariant="MySql.Data.MySqlClient" description=".Net Framework Data Provider for MySQL" type="MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlClientFactory, MySql.Data, Version=6.3.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=c5687fc88969c44d" /> </DbProviderFactories> </system.data> while in other machines it runs well without theese lines.... the thing is that when I add theese lines the app wont run on machines that did not needed theese lines in the firs place, and I would like not to publish to versions of the app, is there a way to solve this?

  Hello, i'm having a bit of a question, I have some newspost from my database. But there are tags in it and some tags aswell. My questiion is how i should go about it to get the newspost showing as it should be. The images should get shown instead of the tags etc. I know i'll have to work with a loader to use the images but how would as3 recognize them? Is there anyway i could use htmltext or something so as3 knows automaticly where the imagetags are? Also, if i add the image would it be possible to wrap the text around it? So i dont have an empty space next to the image?

• jQuery inline text scrolling/rotating/carousel effect

  I trying to create an animation with JQuery that scrolls 1 word in a sentence. For example, I am a nice sententce of text with a MAGIC word in it OTHER HIDDEN WORDS After a second or so, MAGIC would move upwards and OTHER would scroll into view. I've tried playing with a few carousel plugins but I can't seem to get the effect working. Some seem to have so many nested divs that they refuse to display inline, others have issues when one word is longer than another. Does anybody know of a plugin that could make this possible? Is this even possible?

• which MVC for coldfusion?

  newbie to MVC here. so please be gentle. I want to move one of our existing apps (currently located in http://www.companywebsitegoeshere.com/myapp1) to MVC. As can be seen in the URL, there are many apps running in the website which I intend to move at some stage. I don't have write access to the wwwroot (/var/www/html in my case) and the webserver is used by multiple developers across the company. I'm hoping I can have the MVC framework core files/folders + my app all located in in 1 subfolder. In the case of myapp1, all the filers and folders will be inside /var/www/html/myapp1 subfolder. Can you please point me to the right direction (links/guides/docs/videos/etc)? I've looked at several like cfwheels/mach-ii/fw1 but they seemed requires wwwroot access. Thanks! :)

• LINQ query for tag system: Matching any of several tags?

  I am just getting started with LINQ. I am creating an Entity Framework app that uses the canonical Post and Tag model. A Post contains an ID, Text, and Tags, and a Tag contains an ID, a Name, and Posts. A previous thread on StackOverflow showed me how to query for a Post that matches all Tag objects (A and B and C) in a search list. But how would I query for a Post that matches any Tag (A or B or C) in the list? Thanks for your help.
