  • Using OpenID as the only authentication method

    I have read the other questions and they mostly talk about the security of doing so. That's not entirely my concern, mostly because the website is question is a browser-based game. However, the larger issue is the user - not every user is literate enough to understand OpenID. Sure RPX makes this pretty easy, which is what I'll use, but what if the user does not have an account at Google or Facebook or whatever, or does not trust the system to log in with an existing account? They'd have to get an account at another provide - I'm sure most will know how to do it, let alone be bothered to do it. There is also the problem of how to manage it in the application. A user might want to use multiple identities with a single account, so it's not as simple as username + password to deal with. How do I store the OpenID identities of a user in the database? Using OpenID gives me a benefit too: RPX can provide extensive profile information, so I can just prefill the profile form and ask the user to edit as required. So here are concrete questions: How would I make it accessible to users not having an OpenID or not wanting to use one? (security concerns over say, logging in with their Google account for example) How do I store the identifier in the database? (I'm not sure if the tables above are right) What measures do I need to take in order to prevent someone from logging in as another user and happily doing anything with their account? (as I understand RPX sends the identifier via HTTP, so what anyone would have to do is to just somehow grab it then enter it in the "OpenID" field) What else do I need to be aware of when using OpenID?

  • JSON Post To Rails From Android

    I'm currently working on an android app that interfaces with a Ruby on Rails app through XML and JSON. I can currently pull all my posts from my website through XML but I can't seem to post via JSON. My app currently builds a JSON object from a form that looks a little something like this: { "post": { "other_param": "1", "post_content": "Blah blah blah" } } On my server I believe the Create method in my Posts Controller is set up correctly: def create @post = current_user.posts.build(params[:post]) respond_to do |format| if @post.save format.html { redirect_to @post, notice: 'Post was successfully created.' } format.json { render json: @post, status: :created, location: @post } format.xml { render xml: @post, status: :created, location: @post } else format.html { render action: "new" } format.json { render json: @post.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } format.xml { render xml: @post.errors, status: :unprocessable_entity } end end end And in my android app I have a method that takes that JSON Object I posted earlier as a parameter along with the username and password for being authenticated (Authentication is working I've tested it, and yes Simple HTTP authentication is probably not the best choice but its a quick and dirty fix) and it then sends the JSON Object through HTTP POST to the rails server. A route or controller that isn't right? I'd be really grateful if someone could point me in the right direction, because I don't know where to go from here.

  • SSIS DTS Package flat file error - "The file name specified in the connection was not valid"

    I have a pretty basic SSIS package that is attempting to read a file hosted on a share, and import its contents to a database table. The package runs fine when I run it manually within SSIS. However, when I set up a SQL Agent job and attempt to execute it, I get the following error: Executed as user: DOMAIN\UserName. This leads me to believe it's a permissions issue, but every attempt I've made to fix it has failed. What I've tried so far: Run as the SQL Agent account (DOMAIN\SqlAgent) - yields same error. DOMAIN\SqlAgent has "Full Control" permissions on both the share and the uploaded file. Set up a proxy account with a different account's credentials (DOMAIN\Account) - yields same error. Like above, "Full Control" permissions were given over the share to that account. Gave "Everyone" full control permissions over the share (temporarily!). Yielded same error. Manually copied the file to a local path and tested with the SQL Agent account. Worked properly. Added an ActiveX script task that would first copy the remotely hosted file to a local path, and then have the DTS package reference the local file. Gave a completely nondescriptive (even by SSIS standards) error when trying to run the script. Set up a proxy account, using my own personal account's credentials - worked correctly. However, this is not an acceptable solution as there are password policies in place on my account, as well as being a bad practice to set things up this way in general. Any ideas? I'm still convinced it's a permissions issue. However, what I've read from various searches more or less says giving the executing account permissions on the share should work. However, this is not the case here (unless I'm missing something obscure when I'm setting up permissions on the share).

    I am trying to write a function to post form data and save returned cookie info in a file so that the next time the page is visited, the cookie information is sent to the server (i.e. normal browser behavior). I wrote this relatively easily in C++ using curlib, but have spent almost an entire day trying to write this in Python, using urllib2 - and still no success. My two questions are: can anyone see whats wrong with the login() function, and how may I fix it? how may I modify the get_page() function to make use of any cookie info I have saved ?

Now when I load the skills lazily through the Employee instances the cache is not used for skills in different instances of Employee. Let's Consider the following data set.   • Cannot populate form with ajax and populate jquery plugin

    I'm trying to populate a form with jquery's populate plugin, but using $.ajax The idea is to retrieve data from my database according to the id in the links (ex of link: get_result_edit.php?id=34), reformulate it to json, return it to my page and fill up the form up with the populate plugin. But somehow i cannot get it to work.   • WCF doesn't find client configuration

    Hi ! I have a WCF service on server B. Then on the machine A is the client, which is a Windows service. In a separate dll stands all the business logic for this service. So my proxy for the WCF is on that side. I have 2 app.config (client side only) : 1 for the service and another one in the dll. So I tried (for test purpose) puting the servicemodel config section in both. Both still, it doesn't work, it says that it can't find the endpoint with that name and for that contract... What I'm trying to do here is modify the configuration programatically.   • reCaptcha issue with Spring MVC

    Hi I've been trying to integrate reCaptcha with my application built on Spring framework, but I am getting this error: org.springframework.web.bind.MissingServletRequestParameterException: Required String parameter 'recaptcha_challenge_field' is not present Could someone help me understand that why am I getting this error. I've got both recaptcha_challenge_field and recaptcha_response_field parameters bound to the User domain object. Could anybody help me understand what am I missing?     Hi , I have paypal sandbox test account. I want to create a 'buy Now' button. I am trying it with GWT. But its even not working with simple HTML form. It displays a 'Buy Now' button on HTML page and after clicking on it redirects to PayPal site. Where it ask to login to buy product but after that it goes on displying message: The email address or password you have entered does not match our records. Please try again. I am using buyer user to purchase product. I am pretty sure about the username and password. I am new to software development and have designed several Client/Server applications over the last 12 months or so, I am currently working on a project that involves a user logging in to gain access to the application and I am looking at the most efficient and "simple" method of storing the users permissions once logged in to the application which can be used throughout restricting access to certain tabs on the main form. I have created a static class called "User" detailed below: static class User { public static int _userID; public static string _moduleName; public static string _userName; public static object[] UserData(object[] _dataRow) { _userID = (int)_dataRow[0]; _userName = (string)_dataRow[1]; _moduleName = (string)_dataRow[2]; return _moduleName; } } When the user logs in and they have been authenticated, I wish to store the _moduleName objects in memory so I can control which tabs on the main form tab control they can access, for example; if the user has been assigned the following roles in the database: "Sales Ledger", "Purchase Ledger" they can only see the relevant tabs on the form, by way of using a Switch - Case block once the login form is hidden and the main form is instantiated.     Spending hours fixing my function.php page and all seemed well, except Im getting errors on my rss feed at: blog.xternalit.co.uk. I leave that issue to rest and installed wordpress iphone app. The connection to my blog works perfect with wordpress' default theme. Ha! But it keeps making me resetting my password. So hell with that. Switched back to my theme and I cant connect from app to blog.     I'm having difficulties in the making the logout code for php to work. When I click on the logout button, it will go back to the home page, but when I click on the back button in the browser. I can still access the previous page, wherein the user must be logged on to access it. So I'm thinking of redirecting to the login page when the user clicks on the back button on the browser.   • Booking form works but does not give feedback

    I have a form where people can book seats for a given event. It's actually a WordPress plugin. When someone sends his booking, email notifications are sent properly and the event booking status is updated accordingly. The issue is that the booking form does not give any feedback whatsoever. Once you hit "book now", the graphic keeps loading and no feedback is ever displayed like for instance "booking sent successfully" or "there are errors in your form", even though the booking is saved correctly with both sides notified by email. I guess it's a JavaScript issue,Firebug console is not showing any error...
