    My embedded Python 3.3 program segfaults when I instantiate python objects from a c function called by ctypes.   • Getting a users Facebook profile url

    I am creating a registry site so similar people can find each other easily. I don't want to use Facebook Connect as the primary log in method or use Facebook to store their information. I'll be creating a database on my end to store that info. For security reasons I won't be displaying the users address, phone number or email address so I wanted to provide the next best way for people to connect with each other, this is where Facebook comes in. Normally I would just ask them to type their Facebook URL in a text box but I don't think most people know what their url is which is why I think I need to use Facebook Connect. So here is my idea..when the users signs up there is a check box that when checked signifies they are allowing people to find them on Facebook. I assume once they click the register button that a Facebook Connect popup will show up asking for permission to access their Facebook account. When they "allow" it, then I can get their profile url. All I need is their Facebook profile url, I don't want any other Facebook features or information. Is Facebook Connect the best thing to use for this scenario? Is there an easier way? Several months ago on the Facebook Connect site their used to be examples of doing this, but all the documentation has been rearranged and changed and I can't seem to find the information. Any help you can provide would be great!

    i'm having a difficult time understanding how to control the z property of display objects in a 3D space. i know how depth works, but what i don't understand is how i can get the maximum depth, or the number at which the display object just disappears into the background. i assume depth is based on the stage's width and height, and that is why assigning the same depth of the same display object appars mismatched with different stage sizes. so how can i appropriately measure depth?

    I am trying to set up ehcache replication as documented here: http://ehcache.sourceforge.net/EhcacheUserGuide.html#id.s22.2 This is on a Windows machine but will ultimately run on Solaris in production. The instructions say to set up a provider as follows: <cacheManagerPeerProviderFactory class="net.sf.ehcache.distribution.RMICacheManagerPeerProviderFactory" properties="peerDiscovery=automatic, multicastGroupAddress=230.0.0.1, multicastGroupPort=4446, timeToLive=32"/> And a listener like this: <cacheManagerPeerListenerFactory class="net.sf.ehcache.distribution.RMICacheManagerPeerListenerFactory" properties="hostName=localhost, port=40001, socketTimeoutMillis=2000"/> My questions are: Are the multicast IP address and port arbitrary (I know the address has to live within a specific range but do they have to be specific numbers)? Do they need to be set up in some way by our system administrator (I am on an office network)? I want to test it locally so am running two separate tomcat instances with the above config. What do I need to change in each one? I know both the listeners can't listen on the same port - but what about the provider? Also, are the listener ports arbitrary too? I've tried setting it up as above but in my testing the caches don't appear to be replicated - the value added in one tomcat's cache is not present in the other cache. Is there anything I can do to debug this situation (other than packet sniffing)? Thanks in advance for any help, been tearing my hair out over this one!

    What is the best way to gray out text inputs on an HTML form? I need the inputs to be grayed out when a user checks a check box. Do I have to use JavaScript for this (not very familiar with JScript) or can I use PHP (which I am more familiar with)? EDIT: After some reading I have got a little bit of code, but it is giving me problems. For some reason I cannot get my script to work based on the state of the form input (enabled or disabled) or the state of my checkbox (checked or unchecked), but my script works fine when I base it on the values of the form inputs. I have written my code exactly like several examples online (mainly this one) but to no avail. None of the stuff that is commented out will work.     I'm writing a Python wrapper for a C++ library, and I'm getting a really weird when trying to set a struct's field in C. If I have a struct like this: struct Thing { PyOBJECT_HEAD unsigned int val; }; And have two functions like this: static PyObject* Thing_GetBit(Thing* self, PyObject* args) { unsigned int mask; if(!PyArg_ParseTuple(args, "I", &mask) Py_RETURN_FALSE; if((self->val & mask) != 0) Py_RETURN_TRUE; Py_RETURN_FALSE; } static PyObject* Thing_SetBit(Thing* self, PyObject* args) { unsigned int mask; bool on; if(!PyArg_ParseTuple(args, "Ii", &mask, &on)) Py_RETURN_FALSE; if(on) thing->val |= mask; else thing->val &= ~mask; Py_RETURN_TRUE; } Python code that calls the first method works just fine, giving back the value of the struct member. Calls to the SetBit method give an error about an object at address foo accessing memory at address bar, which couldn't be "written". I've poked around the code, and it's like I can look at the value all I want, both from C and Python, but the instant I try to set it, it blows up in my face. Am I missing something fundamental here?

  • Entity Framework and stored procedure returning temp table Issues

    (Disclaimer - I'm not the database designer. I'm just the poor developer what has to make this work.) There are 17 (at the moment) tables with identical structure - name, address, phone number. Given a phone number, I have to check to see if there's a matching entry in any of the tables, then return that address. So, I created a view to get the list of tables (there's a ref table that holds that info), then I created a stored procedure to create a temp table, using cursors, check each table in the view for the phone number, using sql concatenation. If a record is found, insert it into the temp table. return the rows from the temp table. This all works in straight T-SQL. Now, I'm trying to use Entity Framework 4+ to call the stored procedure. But the function import interface won't generate columns. It says return type = none, and the LINQ code expects an int and won't compile. Any ideas on how to make this work? I know I can move the check tables part to code, if I absolutely have to, but I'd rather have the above method work.

In that case i have to read out and find the word <Salary>. In other words, I have to find all the words, that are located with the angle brackets (<). How do I do that?

    I am implementing a simple RoR webpage that collect emails from visitors and store them as objects. I'm using it as a mini-project to try RoR and BDD. I can think of 3 features for Cucumber: 1. User submits a valid email address 2. User submits an existing email address 3. User submits an invalid email My question is, for scenarios 2 and 3, is it better to handle this via the controller? or as methods in a class? Perhaps something that throws errors if an instance is instantiated in sceanrio 2 or 3? Implementation is below, love to hear some code reviews in addition to answers to questions above. Thanks!   • How to design Models the correct way: Object-oriented or "Package"-oriented?

    I know that in OOP you want every object (from a class) to be a "thing", eg. user, validator etc. I know the basics about MVC, how they different parts interact with each other. However, i wonder if the models in MVC should be designed according to the traditional OOP design, that is to say, should every model be a database/table/row (solution 2)? Or is the intention more like to collect methods that are affecting the same table or a bunch of related tables (solution 1). example for an Address book module in CodeIgniter, where i want be able to "CRUD" a Contact and add/remove it to/from a CRUD-able Contact Group. Should i just bunch all functions together in one class. then the class contains different logic (contact and group), so it can not hold properties that are specific for either one of them. the solution 2 works according to the OOP. but i dont know why i should make such a dividing. what would the benefits be to have a Contact object for example. Its surely not a User object, so why should a Contact "live" with its own state (properties and methods). you experienced guys with OOP/MVC, please shed a light on how one should think here in this very concrete task.

  • Text Hints with JQuery and JavaScript for loop

    Hey guys! I'm developing a small app where i ask users to put some info. I want to show text hints in the input fields. I do this in a for loop... When the page is loaded, the hints are displayed correctly but nothing happens on 'focus' and 'blur' events... I'm wondering why since when I don't use a 'for loop' in my js code, everything works find... By the way the reason I use a for loop is because I don't want to repeat myself following 'DRY' principles... Thx for your help!   • Manipulating collections & the ViewModel pattern

    I'm relatively new to WPF, and I'm having trouble with what I'm fairly certain is a relatively simple problem. I have my underlying data object, a Person: class Person { public string Surname {get; set; } public string Firstname {get; set; } public List<Address> Addresses {get; } } And I wish to display and edit this object in my WPF app. To this end I've created a ViewModel that I bind to in my xaml: class PersonViewModel { public string Fullname {get; } public ObservableCollection<AddressViewModel> Addresses {get; } } This is fine, except when it comes to manipulating my Address collection, where I can't work out what I should be doing: Should I add methods AddAddress, RemoveAddress etc... to my PersonViewModel class for manipulating my collection with instances of AddressViewModel Should I just add instances of AddressViewModel to my Addresses observable collection Both of the above seem a bit messy - is there a better way of dealing with collections?

  • html horizontal scrolling
