• Servlet receives OPTIONS instead of GET requests from jQuery?

  All I want to achieve is to implement a servlet providing a json feed for my fullcalendar application. When I inspect http://arshaw.com/js/fullcalendar/examples/json.html with Bugzilla, I see that GET-requests are sent to receive the json feed. However, when I use this example within my scenario, fullcalendar seems to send OPTIONS-requests. The only difference is that I replaced "events: "json-events.php" with "http://localhost:8080/CalendarServletTest/HelloWorldServlet" (the url of my servlet). What do I miss? Or is this really a bug?

  I am developing a bookmarklet that requires a specific version of jQuery be loaded on the page. When I have to dynamically insert a jQuery script tag to meet the requirments of the bookmarklet I want to wait for the onload or onreadystatechange event on the script tag before executing any function that requires jQuery. For some reason the onload and/or onreadystatechange events do not fire.   Hello, Here's how the situation looks : I have a couple simple forms <form action='settings.php' method='post'> <input type='hidden' name='setting' value='value1'> <input type='submit' value='Value1'> </form> Other small forms close to it have value2, value3, ... for the specific setting1, etc. Now, I have all these forms placed on the settings.php subpage, but I'd also like to have copies of one or two of them on the index.php subpage (for ease of access, as they are in certain situations rather frequently used). Thing is I do not want those forms based on the index.php to redirect me in any way to settings.php, just post the hidden value to alter settings and that's all. How can I do this with JS ? Cheers

  I'm unsatisfied with other JavaScript libraries and frameworks like jQuery, MooTools, and Raphael, because of their inability to support SVG grouping. You'd think it'd be a very simple thing for them to implement.   I am trying to fix the performance problem with Dive Into Python 3 on IE8. Visit this page in IE8 and, after a few moments, you will see the following popup: I traced down the culprit down to this line in j/dip3.js ... find("tr:nth-child(" + (i+1) + ") td:nth-child(2)"); If I disable it (and return from the function immediately), the "Stop executing this script?" dialog does not appear as the page now loads fairly fast. I am no Javascript/jquery expert, so I ask you fellow developers as to why this query is making IE slow. Is there a fix for it?   Hi, I have been looking into HTML5 and CSS3 and have been liking it quite a lot. Got around the modernizr API, but am stuck at one point, and that leads to further confusions: How will I write a code that caters to the situation of non-compatibility between browsers ? This leads to the following confusions: if I write the doctype as <!DOCTYPE HTML> and my page is accessed in IE6, then ho IE6 will handle the page? If I try to include <video> tag and the page is again accessed by IE6/IE7IE8 (which don't support this tag), Then how am I supposed to be rolling back to flash for them? Should I use some JS to show/hide the content appropriately? I would love to hear some thoughts of you guys. If needed, please mark this post as a community wiki. Thanks!

• How to debug CSS/Javascript hover issues

  I often find myself wanting to debug CSS layout issues that involve DOM changes caused by Javascript in reaction to a hover event or different CSS rules applying due to the :hover selector. Normally, I'd use Firebug to inspect the element that's giving me trouble and see what its CSS properties were, and where those properties come from. However, when hovering is involved, it becomes impossible, because as soon as you move your mouse down to the Firebug panel, the elements you're interested in are no longer hovered, the CSS rules that apply are different, and (in the case of JS hovers) the DOM is changed. Is there any way I can "freeze" the state of the DOM and application of :hover in order to inspect the DOM as it was during a hover event? Any other ideas on how to debug this sort of issue are welcome, of course.

  I've developed a web application. It needs to be translated to languages other than English in the future, and ideally the translators shouldn't need to know HTML/JS/C++ to provide the translation. The server side of the web application is written in C++ and the majority of the localised text is in the HTML files. My question is: What approaches are there to translating web applications? - Are there any existing tools that would enable a translator who doesn't understand HTML to translate a site? Should I write an application that extracts the localised text from a html file and can re-substitute translated text? Do you just provide the html file to your translators to be localised? I'm aware the question isn't strictly programming related but the solution may involve programming and it may require some software engineering.

• focus on page scroll navigation when using iPad

  I've used Page Scroller Lite http://pagescroller.com to set up a single-page site at http://www.thestitchshop.co.uk There seems to be an issue that scolling works only once when clicking on a menu item. It will only work again after one touched scrolls the page 'manually' by sliding the finger across the page. Apparently, the issue is that the content gets the focus after the scroll and tapping on navigation then actually taps behind it. I've tried contacting the author of pagecroller, but no luck. So, how do I fix it? I don't have any JS knowledge, so I need a little more help along the way. Many thanks.   Hi Is it possible to prevent the _doPostBack() call getting rendered on a button? I would like add some custom logic prior to calling the postback. I have added an onClick event to the button e.g. <button id="manualSubmit" runat="server" class="manual-submit" onclick="$('#jeweller-form').hide();" /> However, this just gets rendered inline before the _doPostBack() But the postback gets fired before the jQueryHide takes place I would like to call my own JS function then manually trigger the postback any ideas?

I am looking to create a confirm password field using asp.net MVC2 that works on the client. All my other client validation is done with MicrosoftMvcValidation.js by just adding the Html.EnableClientValidation(); call. Some of my considerations. Should the confirm password be part of the model object? Using that approach i have created server side validation by creating my own model binder. Are there any projects out there that have done this?

  I'm writing a utility that takes in a .resx file and creates a javascript object containing properties for all the name/value pairs in the .resx file. This is all well and good, until one of the values in the .resx is This dealer accepts electronic orders. /r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer. I'm adding the name/value pairs to the js object like this: streamWriter.Write(string.Format("\n{0} : \"{1}\"", kvp.Key, kvp.Value)); When kvp.Value = "This dealer accepts electronic orders./r/nClick to order {0} from this dealer." This causes StreamWriter.Write() to actually place a newline in between 'orders.' and 'Click', which naturally screws up my javascript output. I've tried different things with @ and without using string.Format, but I've had no luck. Any suggestions?

  It is said, javascript clears a variable from memory after its being referenced last. just for the sake of this question i created a JS file with only one variable; //file start //variable defined var a=["Hello"] //refenence to that variable alert(a[0]); // //file end no further reference to that variable, so i expect javascript to clear varaible 'a' Now i just ran this page and then opened firebug and ran this code alert(a[0]); Now this alerts the value of variable, If the statement "Javascript clears a variable after there is no further reference it" is true how come alert() shows its value. Is it because all variable defined in global context become properties of window object, and since even after the execution file window objects exist so does it properties.

  Hey everyone, I am calling a JS function through the ExternalInterface using Flex which requires the absolute X and Y coordinates to create a pop-up menu. The Flex application is displayed on the center of an HTML page, therefore there is an HTML X and Y offset to consider. I have tried using the LocalToGlobal and ContentToGlobal functions, but these are just giving me the X and Y coordinates relative to the Flex application, it is not considering the HTML X and Y offset of having the Flex app in the center of the page or varying different screen resolutions. Is the best approach to retrieve the HTML X and Y offset using JavaScript? Is there a Flex function I can use that provides the absolute X and Y coordinates based on the HTML page? Thanks!
