  I'm still not convinced after my previous question and some experience. Requirements: I don't want to use an SQL query everytime a filterBy() function is called and still be able to call -filterBy() on the returned table. Please find the comment @ ObjectsTable class: "How to instantiate another table and add records which match the filter criteria?" • NSMutableUrlRequest eats plus signs

  I create NSMutableUrlRequest for sending data to server, add all necessary fields to it and then add the string for sending like this: [theRequest setHTTPBody:[postString dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding]]; postString is a usual NSString. The problem is, when I receive this request at the server, all the plus (+) signs disappear from the http body. So if I had "abcde+fghj" on iPhone, I get "abcde fghj" on the server". Can this be some encoding problem from using dataUsingEncoding: NSUTF8StringEncoding? Or some NSMutableUrlRequest stripping feature? What can I do to make it stop stripping plus signs? I need to receive UTF8 strings at the server side.

• [Python] Detect destination of shortened, or "tiny" url

  I have just scraped a bunch of Google Buzz data, and I want to know which Buzz posts reference the same news articles. The problem is that many of the links in these posts have been modified by URL shorteners, so it could be the case that many distinct shortened URLs actually all point to the same news article. Given that I have millions of posts, what is the most efficient way (preferably in python) for me to detect whether a url is a shortened URL (from any of the many URL shortening services, or at least the largest) Find the "destination" of the shortened url, i.e., the long, original version of the shortened URL. Does anyone know if the URL shorteners impose strict request rate limits? If I keep this down to 100/second (all coming form the same IP address), do you think I'll run into trouble?

• Problem deploying servlets in JBoss 5.1 on eclipse.

  Yesterday I created a simple image servlet and attempted to deploy it. I am getting an error on JBoss startup, and then further errors on trying to invoke the servlet. I spent about 8 hours yesterday searching the web for answers and trying different scenarios. I ended up making my JBoss problems worse and then fixing them, but I never did get the servlet to work. As a matter of fact, I even added some code to one of my JSPs to attempt to instantiate the Servlet and call the doGet method. This actually works and outputs the correct debug sequences to the log indicating that the Servlet constructor and doGet methods were called. I also tried following some instructions for creating/deploying a very simple HelloWorld servlet, and that has exactly the same problem. Note that web.xml already contained a servlet put there by JBoss: org.jboss.web.tomcat.service.StatusServlet -- that Servlet does not give any errors in the log. As an experiment, I removed ".web" from that path and ended up getting exactly the same error as I'm getting on my Servlet. So it would appear that JBoss is not able to locate my Servlet given the specified path. Just for kicks, I've tried all sorts of other paths, like just plain MyImageServlet, controller.MyImageServlet, and more. Also, the servlet was originally named ImageServlet, but I attempted the name change thinking maybe there was some conflict with an existing ImageServlet. In all cases, the behavior is the same. After all of my research yesterday, I would say that this appears to be a problem with the JBoss servlet container, and I also learned that JBoss 5.1.0.GA should come bundled with a tomcat servlet container. I installed JBoss on my PC (Windows XP) myself less than 2 months ago (from jboss.org) and used it pretty much as is. Note that I am running on JDK 1.6, so I did use the jboss-jdk6 installation version. I am running on Windows, but I also deploy to a Linux virtual dedicated server. I deployed the current version of my program, including the servlet to the Linux box, but I get the exact same errors. I'm reluctant to just try reinstalling JBoss, since it's hard to place the blame on the JBoss installation when I get the same errors on two completely different installations. I am a bit suspicious of the bundled tomcat servlet container, because using eclipse, I haven't been able to locate any indication that there is a tomcat bundled into JBoss. I did locate servlet-api.jar in the JBoss common/lib directory. This is on the eclipse build path. One possibly useful note: I had previously used a standalone tomcat server for other projects using the same eclipse, so maybe it's some sort of eclipse issue? But, as I said, I do get the same errors when I deploy to the Linux server, and that deployment process just involves ftping files to the server and then putting them into the deployed war package and restarting JBoss. • Why does my server hang when I call a page over files_get_content?

  I am trying to get content from a wordpress installation on a subdomain of my server. I tried that with file_get_content and also with Zend_Http_Client. $client = new Zend_Http_Client(Zend_Registry::get('CONFIG')->static->$name->$lang); $content = $client->request()->getBody(); As long as I run in on my localhost, it works fine. As soon as it runs on the same server as the subdomain, it hangs forever (timeout). • Using a UIPickerView to make a CoreData Relationship

  Okay, so I have a fairly simple application set up. I have two different CoreData Entities, Games and Platforms, each have one attribute: name, and they have a one-to-many relationship between them. Platforms are populated on the first launch of the application, and will never change as a result of user input. I'm working on my Add view to let the user add new games to their personal database, and each game should select from a platform. The add view itself is a grouped table view with static custom cells. Tapping the platform cell should advance the user to another view to select the platform. My thought is that UIPickerView seems like a logical choice for the control, since the Platform list is static, but I'm not sure how to use it with CoreData. Even if I construct a fetch request to get the Platform objects and extract the strings out, how do I go about linking the new Game object to the original Platform object?

• How do I do a postback to a CGI service

  I am building a C# client for a CGI service (not sure what its called exactly). It accepts a bunch of XML and spits out a response. I have tested it straight in Firefox and it works (see below). Now I am not sure how to do this in C# code though? It needs to be strong enough to beat a casual player, but efficient enough that it can calculate a move within a single request (less than 10 secs). • Like Html.RenderAction() but without reinstantiating the controller object

  I like to use the RenderAction extension method on the HtmlHelper object to render sidebars and the like in pages, as it allows me to keep the data access code for each such part in separate methods on the controller. Using an abstract controller base, I can define a default "sidebar strategy", which can then be refined by overriding the method in a concrete controller, when needed. The only "problem" I have with this approach, is that the RenderAction is built in a way where it always creates a news instance of the controller class, even when rendering actions from the controller already in action. Some of my controllers does some data lookup in their Initialize method, and using the RenderAction method in the view causes this to occur several times in the same request. Is there some alternative to RenderAction which will reuse the controller object if the action method to be invoked is on the same controller class as the "parent" action?

First, my packets deal with many routers on way how these routers communicate with each other?, are router addresses added to my packet headers ? Second, is there a specific path router to router comminication or which conditions affect this route? Third to cross the Atlantic Ocean, are cables used or... ?

• Using Connection Based State with Apache2

  I am writing an HTTPS based application using Apache2 as the web server, and python as the language (not sure which framework or Apache2 mod yet). After clients (which are not web browsers) first establish an HTTPS connection to the server, they are expected to send an authentication message. If authentication is successful, they are able to send more commands, until the connection is closed (HTTP 1.1 will be used, with a long keep alive time). My question is, is it possible to have state associated with the connection? I don't want the client to have to send cookies or session ids -- the HTTPS application should be able to figure out the session based on the connection that each request belongs to...the question is how?

  Dear Devs I have a wcf service deployed on IIS with basicHttpBinding and aspNetCompatibilityEnabled=true I have a test client as well which invokes multiple service functions simultaneously. To check the performance of service call on client and server I calculated the Avg time it takes to complete a service request on client(in proxy code) and on server as well. after a test of 8 hrs (server and client were on the same machine) i came to know that average response time on client is around 34ms where as the Avg execution time on server is around 3ms so the difference is 31ms. I would like to know why every call is taking 31ms is it justified? and how can i reduce this?

• Is there a Java equivalent to libevent?

  I've written a high-throughput server that handles each request in its own thread. For requests coming in it is occasionally necessary to do RPCs to one or more back-ends. These back-end RPCs are handled by a separate queue and thread-pool, which provides some bounding on the number of threads created and the maximum number of connections to the back-end (it does some caching to reuse clients and save the overhead of constantly creating connections). Having done all this, though, I'm beginning to think an event-based architecture would be more efficient. In searching around I haven't found any equivalents to libevent for Java, but maybe I'm not looking in the right place? Mina-statemachine from Apache was the closest thing I found, but it looks more verbose than I need and there's no real release available. Any suggestions?

• Need an ASP.NET MVC long running process with user feedback

  I've been trying to create a controller in my project for delivering what could turn out to be quite complex reports. As a result they can take a relatively long time and a progress bar would certainly help users to know that things are progressing. The report will be kicked off via an AJAX request, with the idea being that periodic JSON requests will get the status and update the progress bar. I've been experimenting with the AsyncController as that seems to be a nice way of running long processes without tying up resources, but it doesn't appear to give me any way of checking on the progress (and seems to block further JSON requests and I haven't discovered why yet). After that I've tried resorting to storing progress in a static variable on the controller and reading the status from that - but to be honest that all seems a bit hacky! All suggestions gratefully accepted!

• VB.net, disable proxy for entire program

  Ever since upgrading to Visual Studio 2010, I'm running into an issue where the first web request of any type (WebRequest, WebClient, etc.) hangs for about 20 seconds before completing. Subsequent calls work quickly. I've narrowed down the problem to a proxy issue. If I manually disable proxy settings, I don't experience this delay: Dim wrq As WebRequest = WebRequest.Create(Url) wrq.Proxy = Nothing What's strange is that there are no proxy settings enabled on this machine in Internet Options. What I'm wondering is if there is a way to disable proxy settings for my entire project in one shot without explicitly disabling as above for every web object. The main reason I want to be able to do this is that I'm trying to use an API (http://code.google.com/p/google-api-for-dotnet/) which uses web requests, but does not provide any way to manually disable proxy settings. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!

• WCF issues with KnownType for Dictionary

  Hi, I have a service that implements the following DataMember: [DataMember] public Dictionary<string, List<IOptionQueryResult>> QueryResultItems { get; set; } I have the class "OptionQuerySingleResult" which inherits from IOptionQueryResult. Now, I understand that I need to make the OptionQueryResult type "known" to the Service and thus tried to add the KnownType in various ways: [KnownType(typeof(Dictionary<string, OptionQuerySingleResult[]>))] [KnownType(typeof(Dictionary<string, List<OptionQuerySingleResult>>))] [KnownType(typeof(OptionQuerySingleResult)] However, none of those approaches worked and on the client side I'm either getting that deserialization failed or the server simply aborted the request, causing a connection aborted error. Does anyone have an idea on what's the proper way to get this to work? I'd like to add, the if I change the QueryResultItems definition to use the concrete type, instead of the interface, everything works just fine. Thanks, Tom

• How can I pause a BackgroundWorker? Or something similar...

  I was using a BackgroundWorker to download some web sites by calling WebClient.DownloadString inside a loop. I wanted the option for the user to cancel in the middle of downloading stuff, so I called CancelAsync whenever I found that CancellationPending was on in the middle of the loop. But now I noticed that the function DownloadString kinda freezes sometimes, so I decided to use DownloadStringAsync instead (all this inside the other thread created with BackgroundWorker). An since and don't want to rewrite my whole code by having to exit the loop and the function after calling DownloadStringAsync, I made a while loop right after calling it that does nothing but checks for a variable bool Stop that I turn true either when the DownloadStringCompleted event handler is called or when the user request to cancel the operation. Now, the weird thing is that it works fine on the debug version, but on the release one, the program freezes in the while loop like if it were the main thread.
