• Comparing Dates in Oracle Business Rule Decision Tables

  I have been working with decision tables for some time but have never had a scenario where I need to compare dates. The use case was to check if a persons membership had expired. I didn't think much of it till I started to develop it. The first trap I feel into was trying to create ranges and bucket sets. The other trap I fell into was not converting the date field to a complete date. This may seem obvious to most people but my Google searches came up with nothing so I thought I would create a quick post. I assume everyone knows how to create a decision table so I'm not going to go through those steps. The prerequisite for this post is to have a decision table with a payload that has a date field. This filed must have the date in the following format YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss. Create a new condition in your decision table Right-click on the condition to edit it and select the expression builder In the expression builder, select the Functions tab. Expand the CurrentDate file and select date, and click Insert Into Expression button. In the Expression Builder you need to create an expression that will return true or false, add the operation <= after the CurrentDate.date In my scenario my date field is memberExpire, Navigate to your date field and expand, select toGregorianCalendar(). Your expression will look something like this, click OK to get back to the decision table Now its just a matter of checking if the value is true or false. Simple when you know how :-)

• Problem with sound driver

  I had problem that sound had lag in Flash. (Other than that, there was no problem.) On the internet, I found that installing OSS4 might help me. So I installed OSS4, but there was some problems (no sound on Flash, and couldn't use function key on the laptop - which is quite annoying), so I try to remove OSS4 and re-installing sound modules. After some mess-up, the whole sound was gone. I used Ubuntu for a year, but I don't know how to use the terminal well (All I know is basic commands like sudo, ls, or apt-get).. Now I'm trying to recover by following instructions at this page, but I have some problems... :( When I try to follow instructions: sudo aplay -l finds no sound drivers. find /lib/modules/'uname -r' | grep snd (backtick changed to ' due to code markup) returns nothing. When I try to do sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-'uname -r' linux-generic, it says that it can't find linux-restricted-modules-3.0.0-13-generic package. lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio" returns this, which doesn't contain anything about the name of the driver. Writing sudo modprobe sn and pressing tab twice only returns sudo modprobe sn9c102. sudo aptitude --purge reinstall linux-sound-base alsa-base alsa-utils linux-image-'uname -r' linux-ubuntu-modules-'uname -r' libasound2 returns this, and didn't change non of above. sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-$(uname -r) fails because it can't find the package linux-alsa-driver-modules-3.0.0-13-generic. Compiling ALSA driver doesn't work. When I try to make, it says that /lib/modules/3.0.0-13-generic/build/include/linux/modversions.h doesn't exist. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10. Can anyone help me? I can re-install Ubuntu, but I don't want to....

• A Consol Application or Windows Application in VS 2010 for Sharepoint 2010 : A common Error

  I have seen many Sharepoint Newbies cracking their head to create a Console/Windows  application in VS2010 and make it talk to Sharepoint 2010 Server. I had the same problem when i started with Sharepoint in the begining. It is important for you to acknowledge that SharePoint 2010 is based on .NET Framework version 3.5 and not version 4.0. In VS 2010 when you create a Console/Windows application, Make Sure you select .Net Framework 3.5 in the New Project Dialog Window.If you have missed while creating new Project Go to the Application tab of project properties and verify that .NET Framework Version 3.5 is select as the Target Framework. Now that you have selected the correct framework, will it work? Nope if the application is configured as x86 one it will not work. Sharepoint is a 64 Bit application and when you create a windows application to talk to Sharepoint it should also be a 64 Bit one. Go to Configuration Manager, Select x64. If x64 is not available select <New…> and in the New Solution Platform dialog box select x64 as the new platform copying settings from x86 and checking the Create new project platforms check box. This is not applicable if you are making a console application to talk to sharepoint with Client Object Model.

• Unable to record sound from web browser (firefox / chromium ) using recordmydesktop

  I have to do some screencast tutorials and i am using recordmydesktop with gtk frontend to do it. I need to record also the sound and here is where i have found the problem. It took me some time, but now I can record the sound from almost every application in my desktop ... almost. I need to capture some sound from a web application using java, but when i load the page nothing appears in the playback tab of pavucontrol. I think this is the problem, because if there is no sound stream i think the recordmydesktop program thinks there is no sound to record ... the funny thing is that I can ear the sound in my speakers! I have tried with Firefox and Chromium with no success. Although I have been able to record youtube videos without problem, so it seems that java is the key here. Any suggestion or idea? P.S.: I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with this configuration. ( if more information is needed please let me know) sight i cannot post images ... so I have an audigy2 sound card using Analog Stereo Output profile. • Exchange 2010 Deployment Notes - ISA 2004 Server Issue

  An interesting ISA 2004 tidbit … While we were setting up our Exchange 2010 ActiveSync environment, we encountered a problem where we could not successfully telnet over port 443 from one of our ISA 2004 Servers to our Exchange 2010 Client Access Server Array. When we tried to telnet over port 443 from the ISA Server to the Client Access Server Array name, we would get a “Could not open connection to the host on port 443: Connect failed” error message. Also, when we used portqry over port 443 from the ISA Server to the Client Access Server Array name, we would get a “Error opening socket: 10065” and “No route to host” error messages. It was odd because we did not have any problems with using ping or tracert from the ISA Server to the Client Access Server Array and our firewall firewall policy was allowing 443 traffic to pass through. After some troubleshooting, we were able to telnet and use portqry over port 443 successfully if we stopped the Microsoft Firewall service on the ISA 2004 Server.  So, it was strictly a problem with ISA.  Eventually, we were able to isolate the problem to a ISA 2004 Server System Policy setting as shown below (to modify the System Policy, right-click Firewall Policy and click Edit System Policy). Under the Diagnostics Services – HTTP Connectivity verifiers Configuration Group, you need to enable the configuration group under the General tab to resolve the problem.  After we enabled the setting, we no longer had a problem.

• Asus N46VZ prouduces more heat when on ubuntu compared to windows

  First, i just used ubuntu as my main operating system, so please bear with me. My Asus N46VZ temps is pretty high when im on ubuntu (13.10). The temps are 60C even though i just open a browser. This does not happened on windows, where the temps is just around 50C. I did some research and some people said that the problem might be on my graphic card. I have an intel HD 4000 and GT 650m. So i tried to check my system settings and it said im using "Intel® Ivybridge Mobile". So, i tried to check the "additional drivers" tab on software & update settings but i found nothing there. The point is, i still dont know what make my laptop "overheating". The VGA part is just my guess (and is still dont understand what is the correlation between my VGA and the heat, and everything except the temp seems fine). Any help is appreciated.   I have already used recordmydesktop, xvidcap and kazam. My sound working fine with other audio or videos. xvidcap doesn't record sound at all. I have tried many ways. If I try as: 'padsp xvidcap', it also gives error, like: /dev/dsp cannot found or missing. I have changed it to /dev/snd. Still no effect. Even I can record sound through gnome-sound-recorder - after pressing record button, I open pavucontrol. Then from Recording tab, I choose 'Monitor of Analog Stereo'. But if I run xvidcap, I don't get that option in pavucontrol. kazam works a bit slow. It records at the beginning of the captured video. But for unknown reason, it eventually the sounds just go off. Also the video is not smooth as xvidcap. Though Kazam output as H64/MP4. Record my Desktop also doesn't give sound. Can you guys please help me, either - how to get sound with xvidcap or how kazam could be record nicely. I am looking something Camtasia, as used for Windows. Thanks in advance. Raihan

Although a little bit hidden, the profile's avatar can be customized, too. The profile's avatar is an eye catcher and can act as an unique visual representation for  you.  How to add / modify MOSC profile avatar (picture, icon)  ?    Don't look in Edit Profile section. After login, click on  your profile's name on top right.   This lists all public information as part of the Bio section. Select the Activity tab. The Change Avatar link is on same level at far right. A list of predefined symbolic pictures is populated. Choose from the list of existing pictures or try Add Another to upload an image file from your local computer (JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP only, maximum file size of 2.0 MB). Note: New added images can be used only after running through a review process. Usually after one business day they can be selected for your personal avatar.

• Visual Studio 2010 Pro Power Tools Screencast

  Microsoft just released the Visual Studio 2010 Pro Power Tools extension and it is awesome. A summary of all the features can be found here and it is available in the Visual Studio Gallery here. There are a bunch of great features but, in my opinion, the best one is the replacement for the Add Reference dialog. This gives sub-string search capabilities as well as the ability to add multiple references without having to continually re-open the dialog. For this feature alone, you should install the Pro Power Tools right now. There are a few blogs posts that do a good job describing all the features but what I wanted to do here was to post a quick screencast (7 minutes) that shows the features that I think are really cool. I show most (but not all) of the features focusing on the ones I think are the best. • How to properly structure a project in winform?

  A while ago I started to create a winform application and at that time it was small and I did not give any thought of how to structure the project. Since then I added additional features as I needed and the project folder is getting bigger and bigger and now I think it is time to structure the project in some way, but I am not sure what is the proper way, so I have few questions. How to properly restructure the project folder? At the moment I am thinking of something like this: Create Folder for Forms Create Folder for Utility classes Create Folder for Classes that contain only data What is the naming convention when adding classes? Should I also rename classes so that their functionality can be identified by just looking at their name? For example renaming all forms classes, so that their name ends with Form. Or is this not necessary if special folders for them are created? What to do, so that not all the code for main form ends up in Form1.cs Another problem I encountered is that as the main form is getting more massive with each feature I add, the code file (Form1.cs) is getting really big. I have for example a TabControl and each tab has bunch of controls and all the code ended up in Form1.cs. How to avoid this? Also, Do you know any articles or books that deal with these problems?

  I can't install xojo. When I click install in the software center it's not progressing. So i uncheck: Added by software-center; credentials stored in /etc/apt/auth.conf https://private-ppa.launchpad.net/commercial-ppa-uploaders/xojo/ubuntu GPG error was gone. But then again I found myself at the beginning of the problem.STUCK at '0% [Working]'. 'Xojo' is the only application that I can't install.Any explanation why is it like that?

• Dell Mini 9 Integrated Microphone -- not working

  Im running the latest Debian version, 6.0 on my Dell Mini 9.Webcam and sound work, but microphone is a no-go. I hope even though it is Debian, fellow Linux users can help. In Alsamixer (1.0.23), I have Capture, Digital, and Mic settings all the way up. There are no options for adjusting "Front" mic settings. (May have been for older alsamixer versions?) In Sound Recorder, playback has loud noise/feedback? Under Preferences in Volume Control under the Recording tab, both Capture and Digital are permanently checked, regardless if I uncheck them. I'm not sure how to interpret the above, but I am just trying to offer as much relevant background information as I can. I've been scouring forums for the answer, but to no avail. Most questions/answers are from 2008, and couldn't find a solution. I'm not very handy with the Linux machine, but love to learn / am learning. Also, I've attempted the solution here, and it didn't work. Thanks, in advance, for your help!

I have "solved" that issue, for the time being anyway, by loading alternative lighter weight desktops. This question was opened specifically to question the meaning of the documentation at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver . END OF UPDATE There it is, in Black and White: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver Fully Supported All these Radeon(HD) cards and derivatives have good 3D acceleration support. This is not an exhaustive list: ... RV610/RV630 Radeon HD 2400/2600/2700/4200/4225/4250 Yet in my case (the HD2400) this proves to be manifestly untrue, at least if "Fully Supported" means sufficient to run Unity in Ubuntu 13.04. It runs all the applications I can launch under Unity, but Unity itself is unbearably slow. It's quite striking really. Click on the "Dash" - go get a cup of coffee. Type a key in the Unity search box, wait five seconds for it to appear. Type Alt-tab and wait five seconds for the screen to finish painting. None of these issues appear outside of Unity components. As you all know, there are complaints about slow performance all over the Internet about Unity. Shouldn't this page somehow address this issue? Especially if "fully supported" doesn't mean sufficiently to run the default modern Ubuntu release. What does "fully supported" mean?

• How to handle editing a large file for a non-technical user

  I have a client who is given a tab delimited .txt file containing hundreds of thousands of rows. I have a user story as follows: As a user I want to take the text file and add a new value at the end of each line which contains the concatenated value of two of the columns. for example if the file read text_one text_two I need to output the following (preferably to a .txt file) text_one text_two text_onetext_two My first approach was to ask the vendor supplying the file to do the concatenation before providing the file, the easiest way to solve a problem is to eliminate it right? however they are very uncooperative and have point blank refused. I've looked at building a simple javascript application that does this client side so a non-technical user could select the file using a file selector. This approach has a few problems The file could be over a GB in size and so can't be loaded straight into memory, I've tried and the browser crashes There is no means to write a file in javascript so I'd need to output the content to the screen and have the user save it (somehow) I was thinking if I could get around the filesize limitations I could just output the edited content to the page and have the user save the page as a .txt file, however I think there is a better way than using javascript that will still accommodate the users lack of technical know-how. Please consider this question to be stack agnostic, but bear in mind that a nice little shell script or python script would be deemed unsuitable for a non technical user unless there is a way of "packaging" it nicely for a non-technical user. Updates The file is too large to open in excel. The process needs to be run weekly, but it doesn't require scheduling or automation...(yet)
