  at the moment i'm running ubuntu server 12.04 on top of a virtual box running as service in M$ w7x64, I've configured the shares on fstab with E /media/E vboxsf auto,rw,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0 the mount is ok drwxrwxrwx 1 knoker knoker 16384 Sep 1 20:02 E but i cant change the permissions inside of /media/E ,chmod runs but doesn't do nothing. on a specific case /media/E/Docs/Downloads i have dr-xr-xr-x 1 knoker knoker 163840 Sep 1 19:30 Downloads and since i cant seem to be able to change from linux i tried it on the windows, and all users listed have full control... • Extending Database-as-a-Service to Provision Databases with Application Data

  Oracle Enterprise Manager 12c Database as a Service (DBaaS) empowers Self Service/SSA Users to rapidly spawn databases on demand in cloud. The configuration and structure of provisioned databases depends on respective service template selected by Self Service user while requesting for database. In EM12c, the DBaaS Self Service/SSA Administrator has the option of hosting various service templates in service catalog and based on underlying DBCA templates.Many times provisioned databases require production scale data either for UAT, testing or development purpose and managing DBCA templates with data can be unwieldy. So, we need to populate the database using post deployment script option and without any additional work for the SSA Users. The SSA Administrator can automate this task in few easy steps. For details on how to setup DBaaS Self Service Portal refer to the DBaaS CookbookIn this article, I will list steps required to enable EM 12c DBaaS to provision databases with application data in two distinct ways using: 1) Data pump 2) Transportable tablespaces (TTS). The steps listed below are just examples of how to extend EM 12c DBaaS and you can even have your own method plugged in part of post deployment script option. In “Additional Configuration Options” step of Customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input (shown in Fig. 3). Continue saving the deployment procedure. Figure-3: Using Custom script option for calling Import SQL Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also  populate the data using the post deployment step. Using Transportable tablespaces to populate databases Copy of all user/application tablespaces will enable this method of populating databases. These are the required steps to extend DBaaS using transportable tablespaces: Production DBA needs to create a backup of tablespaces. Datafiles may need conversion [such as from Big Endian to Little Endian or vice versa] based on the platform of production and destination where DBaaS created the test database. Here is sample backup script shows how to find out if any conversion is required, describes the steps required to convert datafiles and backup tablespace. SSA Administrator should copy the database (tablespaces) backup datafiles and export dumps to the backup location accessible from the hosts participating in the database zone(s). Create a post deployment SQL script and this script can either be uploaded into the software library by SSA Administrator or made available on a shared location accessible from servers where databases are likely to be provisioned. Here is sample post deployment SQL script using transportable tablespaces. Using DBCA, create a template for the production database – all the init.ora parameters should be included. NOTE: DO NOT choose to bring tablespace data into this template as they will be created SSA Administrator should customize “Create Database Deployment Procedure” and provide DBCA template created in the previous step. In the “Additional Configuration Options” step of the flow, provide the name of the SQL script in the Custom Script section and lock the input. Continue saving the deployment procedure. Now, an SSA user can login to Self Service Portal and use the flow to provision a database that will also populate the data using the post deployment step. • Ideas for reducing storage needs and/or costs (lots of images)

  Hi, I'm the webmaster for a small social network and have noticed that images uploaded by users are taking a big portion of the capacity available. These are mostly JPEGs. What solutions could I apply to reduce storage needs? Is there a way to reduce the size of images without affecting quality too much? Is there a service out there that could be used to store static files at a cheaper price (< 1GB/0.04 eurocents)? Edit: Updated the question.

  We build a webapp that allows users to run the app under their own subdomain. So we run the app under search.domainX.com, search.domainY.com and so on. They each have their own Google Analytics to track individual stats. But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views." What is the best way tool to track that sort of thing. We prefer a snippet based solution similar to Google Analytics if possible.

• Changing permissions on serial port

  I'm using the Arduino IDE in Ubuntu, and am having issues with the serial port. It has worked in the past, but for reasons that may be unnecesary, I felt the need to change the ownership of some of the files from root ownership to my users ownership. This made the IDE work correctly, but I lost the ability to use the correct serial port. In the dev folder, the port I need is listed as permission 166. Someone (who is no longer in the area to help me) swapped the permissions to 666, which made it all work gloriously. However, it reverted back as soon as I restarted my computer, and if I now try to use the command: sudo chmod 666 ttyACM0 nothing happens. No error messages, but no permission change either. How can I change it, and how can I get it to change permanently. I apologize if this question is overly simplistic or unclear, I'm an ubuntu noob, and I wouldn't begrudge feedback!

Warehouse Builder 11.2.0.2 adds the ability to disable optional feature groups. This lets you avoid the inadvertent use of most licensed features at the repository level.  This capability is accessed through the 11.2.0.2 Repository Assistant. We’ll look at the basics here. • Looking for a simple to use email server that can be programmatically (preferably remotely) used

  I've been poking around the internet for much of the day, but I can't seem to find a good server to fit my needs. What I need is a simple to use and deploy (pref open source) lightweight email server that I can create users on programmaticly that has IMAP or POP support. I'd prefer something with an existing service interface, but if I have to write a REST API on top of an easy to use API, that's acceptable. The purpose of this tool will be to allow a test automation framework to create new email accounts and retrieve email sent to those addresses. I need text, html, and possibly attachment support as well. Perhaps it's my noobishness, but I can't really suss out the details from the documentation on the servers available out there to figure out which fit my needs.

I think about registration flooding and blocking user accounts attacks. For registration, such engine should have at least: captcha blocking mulitple registrations from the same IP providing login (for logging in) and user name (for displaying the author of the posts) For logging in: no blocking on multiple tries -- instead after X try sending via mail a token, the third piece needed for next login -- without it logging in will be impossible (it would be similar to activation process) The engine should be designed with two ideas in mind: protecting engine against attacks 0 penalty for decent users Thank you in advance for your help and recommendations.

• How can I set the default page for an https request?

  We have a website which has a Virtual Directory containing the secure portion of the website. If users come to http://www.mydomain.com, they should get directed to default.aspx of the main site, but if they go to https://www.mydomain.com, they should go to default.aspx of the virtual directory. The default page for the main site works fine, however I can't figure out how to set the default page for https traffic. Right now going to https://www.mydomain.com simply gives me a Page Not Found error. How can I set this up in IIS on Windows Server 2003?

• Windows Phone 7 UserExtenedProperties opinion...

  I was thinking of a way to some how connect my phone user base to my site user base. Right now if an item gets added to the site via the phone the userId is generic and the site displays it as SmartPhoneUser. I was thinking it might be cool to display the unique phone id by using the UserExtenedProperties, however, after reading Nick Harris's blog about it I'm thinking it may not be a good idea as I don't want users to think I'm up to anything nefarious. So I'm wondering if there are any suggestions out there on how to accomplish this task. Right now my site uses the JanRain module that allows multiple logins from other sites (Facebook, Yahoo, Google etc.). Any thoughts on how I can accomplish what I want to do without using the ExtendedProperties?

• Should programmers prefer making wide libraries or thin libraries?

  For classes and functions, it is clear cut: each should do only one thing. For libraries though, this is less clear. If you have a library with collections, it might have multiple collections. It might have useful functions like sorting, which aren't strictly collection based but users would expect. Each of these results in a 'wider' library. On the other side is having a library for the specific collection type and/or with little built-in functionality. If you want a queue, it gives you a queue. If you want to sort that list, then the library lets you do that yourself. What is the best practice here (if any)? I can see arguments for each side.

• IE6 Support - When to drop it? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: Should I bother supporting IE6? I'm thinking about IE6 support and when to give up on it. Do you have a percentage of total visitors figure in mind for when to drop support? Would you let a trend develop past this figure or are you just going take the first opportunity? I've seen a 44% drop in IE6 visitors in the past 12 months from 23%(ish) of visitors down to 13%(ish). Even if it was 5% it still seems too early to drop support to me (it's still 1 in every 20 users). What are people's thoughts on this?

  My company uses CloudFlare for its DNS, but as our site is HTTPS-secured and we're on the free plan, we can't utilize CloudFlare's CDN services. Our host has fairly rare but not insignificant downtime. We can't migrate servers just yet, and I'd like to be able to either have the main domain redirect to the status domain, or simply resolve to the alternative status host in the event of downtime so users will stop bugging me asking if the site is down. Is this possible to do automatically using the free CloudFlare plan, or will I have to manually edit my DNS every time the site goes down?
