  I'm wondering if it would make sense to do some low level or OS stuff(a project) using Java. Reason why I ask is because I would like to expand my knowledge in Java and I'm into doing stuff like file compressor, bulk file renamer, etc. Are there any examples out there that I can look at or play with?   when i use rspec with capybara to test my rails js page , I got the following error: "Selenium::WebDriver::Error::WebDriverError: Could not find Firefox binary (os=linux). " Actually my rails script are all written on the linux server, where there is on brower installed, and any desktop software is not supported on the server (since no X11 is installed). How can I test js in this situation. Or is there and brower that works without X11 installed like wget? Thanks.

  Not completely a programming question, but its close enough so here goes: In Mac OS I'll put user-specific files for my app in ~/Library/Application Data/{MyApp}/ and in *nix I'll put them in ~/.{MyApp}/ - where should I put them for Windows? I'll be using Ruby's File.expand_path to get to this directory, so if there's a windows equivalent of ~ then that's fine. (Answers for Windows XP, Vista and 7 would be appreciated if they're not the same)

  I came upon a comment on another forum today and one user responding to another suggested that a CS degree is really only good for one through two years at the most, and after that its as if you never had it. Is this really true? is this what employers think? When I did CS I never learned anything new, we learned fundamentals like data structures, algorithms, time complexity, OS fundamentals, language characteristics.   Accidentally I have created file "-" (just a minus) in a directory and commited it. I have to delete it because its causing error on other machines: svn: Can't convert string from 'UTF-8' to native encoding: svn: ?\226?\128?\147 I can remove it from local directory using "rm -i *" or with python "os.remove('\xe2\x80\x93')" but those methods do not work with "svn rm". How to delete such file from svn repository?
