  • Perl launched from Java takes forever

    I know this is an absolute shot in the dark, but we're absolutely perplexed. A perl (5.8.6) script run by Java (1.5) is taking more than an hour to complete. The same script, when run manually from the command line takes 12 minutes to complete. This is on a Linux host. Logging is the same in both cases and the script is run with the same parameters in both cases. The script does some complex stuff like Oracle DB access, some scp's, etc, but again, it does the exact same actions in both cases. We're stumped. Has anyone ever run into a similar situation? If not and if you were faced with the same situation, how would you consider debugging it?

  • Encrypted HTML page without HTTPS

    I have a Perl script to open this page http://svejo.net/popular/all/new/ and filter the names of the posts but except headers everything seems encrypted. Nothing can be read. When I open the same page in a browser everything looks fine including the source code. How is it possible to encrypt a page for a script and not for a browser? My Perl script sends the same headers as my browser (Google Chrome).

  • Always require a plugin to be loaded

    I am writing an application with RequireJS and Knockout JS. The application includes an extension to knockout that adds ko.protectedObservable to the main knockout object. I would like this to always be available on the require'd knockout object, and not only when I specify it in the dependencies. I could concat the files together, but that seems that it should be unnecessary. Additionally, I can put knockout-protectedObservable as a dependency for knockout in the requirejs shim configuration, but that just leads to a circular dependency and it all fails to load.   • How can I pipe input to a Java app with Perl?

    I need to write a Perl script that pipes input into a Java program. This is related to this, but that didn't help me. My issue is that the Java app doesn't get the print statements until I close the handle. What I found online was that $| needs to be set to something greater than 0, in which case newline characters will flush the buffer. This still doesn't work.   • exit /B 0 does not work...

    Hi, I have the following problem: I have created a batch script which calls itself in there (for being able to write a log in parallel). In the script I start another process (like start startServer.bat) which starts up a java process and keeps opened up all the time. In my original script I wait 30 seconds, check if the process is running and do an: exit /B 0 Unfortunately that does not work, the window shows that the exit /B 0 is being evaluated, but the window still keeps open. When I close the window with the other process (meaning the "child" processes started up in my .bat) my script continues its run. So: scriptA.bat - in there I call: start startServer.bat - wait 30 seconds - check is server is started - exit /B 0 Process hangs up! What's very odd, if I wrap another script around, like: scriptB.bat - call scriptA.bat ----- in there I call: start startServer.bat ----- wait 30 seconds ----- check is server is started ----- exit /B 0 - scriptA.bat continues without any hangup! I also tried the same with exit 0 (without /B) also, same result! In the first case it hangs up, in the second case my window closes as expected... Has anyone of you ever had such a problem before and knows what's wrong here? Process hangs up!

I got on first server: return serialize ( $results ); and on second: $data = unserialize ( file_get_contents ( 'http://www.......com/reader.php' ) ); ...but there is no communication between ....   • rsync useful w/ encrypted files?

    Is rsync efficient for transferring encrypted files? More specifically: I encrypt 'x' with my public key and call the result 'y'. I rsync 'y' to my backup server. 'x' changes slightly I encrypt the modified 'x' and rsync the modified 'y' to my backup server. Is this efficient? I know a small change in 'x' yields a large change in 'y', but is the change localized? Or has 'y' changed so thoroughly that rsync is not much better than scp? I currently backup my "critical" files by tarring/bzipping them nightly, then encrypting the .tar.bz file and rsync'ing it to my backup server. Many of the individual files don't change, but, of course, the tar file changes if even one of the files change. Is this efficient? Should I be encrypting and backing up each file individually? That way, unchanged files will take no time to rsync.

  • 3 questions about JSON-P format.

    Hi, I have to write a script which will be hosted on differents domains. This script has to get information from my server. So, stackoverflow's user told me that i have to use JSON-P format, which, after research, is what i'm going to do. (the data provided in JSON-P is for displaying some information hosted on my server on other website) How do I output JSON-P from my server ? Is it the same as the json_encode function from PHP How do i design the tree pattern for the output JSON-P (you know, like : ({"name" : "foo", "id" : "xxxxx", "blog" : "http://xxxxxx.com"}); can I steal this from my XML output ? (http://bit.ly/9kzBDP) Each time a visitor browse a website on which my widget is it'll make a request on my server, requesting the JSON-P data to display on the client side. It'll increase dramatically the CPU load (1 visitor on the website who will have the script = 1 SQL request on my server to output data), so is there any way to 'caching' the JSON-P information output to refresh it only one or twice a day and stores it into a 'file' (in which extension?). BUT on the other hand i would say that requesting the JSON-P data directly (without caching it) is a plus, because, websites which will integrates the script only want to display THEIR information and not the whole data. So, making a script with something like that: jQuery.getJSON("http://www.something.com/json-p/outpout?filter=5&callback=?", function(data) { ................); }); Where filter= the information the website wants to display What do you think ?   • Calling back a functions value

    I need your help, I cannot, for the life of me, figure this out. I've had my head wrapped around it only to no avail. Ideally, i'd like to setup two functions. 1 function: select_date() to interact with the user to select a date from the jQuery Date picker. If the dialog is closed then return as null. Then a second function: test() to check wether or not a date was picked/selected.'   • GreaseMonkey + Ajax + Remember page?

    I load jquery into my greasemonkey script and when the user clicks the start button the script makes a bunch of ajax calls. I then empty body and append data. When i click on something and hit back instead of getting the page post script i lose all the data and need to run the ajax calls again (it can take seconds to run). How do i make it not lose the changes?

    Hi Everyone, I have a script that generates a temporary HTML file that has links to external Javascript files that it requires to run. <script src="file:///Users/raphaeldefranco/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/User/Applications/BA9E724E-76BD-4F28-B224-54B4C73786D6/LogTen.app/Reports/Time by Year/../../Tools/PlotKit/Base.js" type="text/javascript"></script> The links are absolute and they are to the right place (There is a CSS link as well that uses the same method and it works fine). I've been using the following, which finds images and CSS just fine but for some reason won't run the .js. [webView loadRequest:requestObj]; I've tried changing the encoding of the files. I had a problem getting the CSS to work until the file was in unicode, but so far no luck. All the Script files are bundled with my project etc. Thanks in advance!

  • CURL request incomplete, suspect timeout but not sure.

    I am currently using CURL via a php script running as daily cron to export product data in csv format from a site's admin area. The normal way of exporting data will be to go to the Export page in a browser, and set the configuration, then click on "export data" button. But as the number of products I am exporting is very large, and it takes more than 5-10 mins to export the data, I've decided to use php's curl function to mimic this on a daily basis via cron. Previously, it is working fine, but recently as I increased the number of products in the store by 500+, the script fails to return the exported data. Testing it manually via clicking on the "export" button in a browser, does return the data correctly. Thus there is no "timeout" issue with running the export in a browser manually. I've tested and by removing/decreasing the number of products (thus the time needed), the php-curl script works fine again when run from cron. So I suspect that it has something to do with timeouts issue, specifically with the curl function in php. I've set both CURLOPT_TIMEOUT and CURLOPT_CONNECTTIMEOUT to '0' respectively to try. In the php-curl script, I've also set "set_time_limit(3000)". But still it does not work, and the request will timeout, with the script failing to return with a complete set of csv data. Any help in helping me resolve/understand this issue will be much appreciated!

    I have a problem, I want to use local::lib; in a script. But because I need to use this script many places, I don't want to try adding the eval to bashrc, every time I install this script to a server. and I can't get local::lib installed globally (in the default @INC) on the servers. Is there any way I can use local::lib from within the script so that it knows where the module local::lib is without the eval that local::lib recommends and without installing it into a directory in the default @INC on the server?
