• Modal Dialog and Form Elements

  I have a form that contains some fields and a recaptcha box. I have hidden the recaptcha box. The user clicks "create profile" and a modal dialog pops up with the recaptcha box. All fine. But, how do I submit that information? I am using Javascript to create the recaptcha HTML in the modal. I have a button called "Create Profile" that has this code attatched to the onclick: $("#form").submit() The form data gets submitted to the create.php page, but the recaptcha info does not. Do I have to manually pass this information via the post request to create.php? Without the modal dialog it works fine. I can't understand what's going on. Any ideas?

• Learning web development as I go

  Hey everybody, I've been seriously preparing to take the entrepreneurship leap. I've got a great partner, and we're going to take on some minor funding, and do the thing. Our product is web-based- I'll deem it YAWA (Yet Another Web Application). Both my partner and I have database and web development experience, and I've had a front-end developer in mind for a while. Except, well- he just bowed out. I know a fair amount about the associated technologies (XHTML, CSS, Javascript and some JQuery) interface-side, but I've never had to deal with real-world scenarios, eg cross-browser design. Am I going to be able to survive without this guy? Is it realistic to believe that I can learn the details as I go?

• Web Standards alternatives to Flex/Silverlight (I mean serious alternatives, not just JS framewoks)

  Is there a set of open standards technologies that I can use to achieve the same way of development as in Flex and Sivlerlight? I am talking about componentization, separation of concerns, rich graphics, states and effects . Please point out some tutorials and other resources if possible. P.S. I KNOW that this is technically possible, so please do not respond by sending google search results or general JQuery tutorials. I've seen those already. I need to know how a Flex / Silverlight developer could design and implement an application in roughly the same way (imagine a rich HTML tag set, much like XAML/MXML, behind which stands JavaScript responsible for handling events and business logic. • Prototype hide/show

  Hi, I am a Javascript/jQuery/Prototype newcomer and I have a page that has a Prototype function to get info from a database and put it into some input fields. This was made before I came to work on this site and now I've been asked to add a hide/show div function. I tried it in jQuery and there were clashes with the two frameworks, (as found in my previous question). My question now is, how would I go about building a show/hide function in Prototype? I think it will be easier to do it this way than to re-build the info grabber. The page I want to add this to is here. (the green "ny kunde" button should show the div directly below it newCustomer. • showSettings callback in Flex?

  I am pretty new to flex, so forgive me if this is an obvious question. Is there a way to open the Security.showSettings (flash.system.Security) with a callback? or at least to detect if it is currently open or not? My flex application is used for streaming audio, and is normally controlled by javascript, so I keep it hidden for normal use (via absolute positioning it off the page). When I need microphone access I need to make the flash settings dialog visible, which works fine, I move it into view and open the dialog. When the user closes it, I need to move it back off the screen so they don't see an empty flex app sitting there after they change their settings. thanks :)

• Copying data across tabs

  Hello, I got two different forms in two different tabs. One has data from our system and the other one is an interface of another, external, system in wich we need to copy data into (XML or API integration not an option here) The this is that, having open both forms - in two different tabs - i need a greasemonkey script or something similar that allows my to copy data from one form to the other (using the getValue method in Javascript). The problem right now is that I cannot figure out how to reference with a greasemonkey script one particular tab or window (to rad data from or write data to). Do you think it would be possible to do what I'm thinking to do? THANKS

• Issues with absolute paths for js files in website

  Hello guys, I have a website which has so many sub folders in it. I have following paths references to my js and css files. <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/styles.css" /> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery.js"></script> the above code is working fine on my local machine. the JS file is not loading when i host the website into production server. Problem in my hosting server is my website is ponted to www.somewebsitename.com instead www.somewebsitename.com/home.aspx . When I load the page with www.somewebsitename.com/home.aspx this url it is loading all the js files it is not loading files only when I load the page with www.somewebsitename.com. Please solve my problem. How to reference JS files so that they ll loaded how ever u visit the page.

• DIV menu ontop of <li> on hover

  Hey guys, this is my first time actually posting at stackflow but i've used people's answers before. Really a great site. Anywho onto my problemo. I have some 'li' tags. When I hover the mouse over these 'li's, I need a DIV to appear over the 'li' with some buttons, etc. Basically it's kind of a menu. the 'li's are an unpredictable length, usually somewhere from 1 line to 5. A great example of what I'm trying to accomp is the dribbble.com homepage. Hover over an image (though I'm using 'li's) and a nifty lil info thing comes up. I have absolutely no experience with javascript or jqry, I'm just a PHP guy with some CSS. I do the back-end work. Anywho, can anyone show me how to do this and include a basic example please? Would really really appreciate it. Help?

• SharePoint Lookup Field 20 Item JS error

  Hi Everyone, I've got an issue with SharePoint Server 2007 SP1 which seems to be documented in various forms, but I haven't been able to find an answer to my seemingly simpler question. http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointcustomization/thread/040533d2-c738-4ac2-b2d6-65a1602fa2d1 Essentially, we have a form with a lookup field to another SharePoint list. The lookup field has more than 20 items, and so SharePoint changes the type/behaviour of the field as per the standard behaviour. However, with my custom skin applied, clicking on this drop down causes a JS error from within the Core.js file, as described here: http://splitnut.blogspot.com/2009/06/lookup-fields-in-moss-javascript-error.html What I haven't been able to figure out is why this is only an issue when my custom master page is applied, and not the OOTB master pages. I've been through and tried to see what might cause this, but haven't been able to track down the cause of the behaviour. Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

  I have a news feed where items in the feed are created from JSON returned from a server. When the user takes an action on an item, I want to remove it from the object via javascript. The feed looks like this: {"newsFeed":[{"feedId":"1", "title":"item1 title", "desc":"description of the item"}, {"feedId":"2", "title":"item2 title", "desc":"description of the item"}]} I'm trying to remove a JSON attribute or entry where the feedId is passed in via a variable using jQuery. • Why GWT? Advantages and Trade-Offs of Using This RIA Framework

  I'm new to stackoverflow and have been reading through a bunch of the "highest voted" questions for GWT. Several of these questions talk about the pitfalls or problems with GWT. In the articles: Which Javascript framework (jQuery vs Dojo vs … )? and Biggest GWT Pitfalls?, some posters seem to suggest that GWT is not lightweight enough or that there are better alternatives that may be used. Do most of you feel that there are problems with GWT that have not been fixed with GWT 2.0 -- which would make you inclined to suggest using a simpler framework for a new project? To some extent, shouldn't GWT be somewhat future-proof (since you don't have to worry about it changing drastically from release to release and since it is backed by Google)? I realize that the answer to this question depends greatly upon what you want to do or what you wish to make. I am looking at this from the perspective of starting a new web application that will eventually be used by millions of users.

• window.opener.document.getElementById not working

  In my asp.net web app, I create a popup window with a button. When that button is clicked, I want to set the value of an asp:TextBox (id=TextBox1) contained in the parent window. However, it doesn't work like all the examples I've read indicate. I've tried the following lines of code in my javascript onclick handler: window.opener.document.getElementById('<%= TextBox1.ClientID %').value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("TextBox1").value = "abc"; window.opener.document.getElementById("ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_TextBox1").value = "abc"; Only example 3 works. All the stuff I've read indicates that #1 is the preferred method, but I can't seem to make it work at all. Does anyone have any ideas what I'm doing wrong? I've tried this in Firefox, Chrome and IE. • Store JsTree order back into database

  Hi I am using JsTree and got some of it working with my database. Such as deleting a node, renaming a node, etc. I am having problems with saving the ROOT folders order back to the database. When I move the root folders, it doesnt save order. When I move the sub folders around, it saves order fine. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?   There is only one text field on a HTML form. Users input some text, press Enter, submit the form, and the form is reloaded. The main use is barcode reading. I use the following code to set the focus to the text field: <script language="javascript"> <!-- document.getElementById("#{id}").focus() //--> </script> It works most of the time (if nobody touches the screen/mouse/keyboard). However, when the user click somewhere outside the field within the browser window (the white empty space), the cursor is gone. • [Rails 3] Creating helper tag with UJS

  Firstly, sorry for my english. I´m brazilian guy that is improving yet. I want create a helper tag called "collection_cascading_select". That helper is similar to "collection_select", but he has one more argument called "source". The "source" is the other collection in the view. Ever that other option is select in the "source", a javascript function needs run to gets his value. Then populate the "collection_cascading_select" collection agreed of that value. • issue with parsing JSON string

  I have this object which I use as a list of objects: var objList = new Object(); This is then serialized using JSON serialize. If there are no object added or all objects have been removed from the list and the blank objList is serialized, parsing the objList using JSON parser in IE, it will occasionally fail to evaluate the objList as a JavaScript object. This causes the Object doesn't support this property or method error when tying to add an object to the objList: objList['idx']=objData; Does anyone know why does IE occasionally fail to evaluate objList:{} to an object and has someone else come across this issue. • Prototype's Ajax.Request not working in Chrome

  I am just doing a simple Ajax.Request call using the newest version of Prototype. It works fine in Firefox, Internet Explorer, and even Safari... but not in Chrome. Here is my code... alert(url); new Ajax.Request(url, { method: 'get', onSuccess: function(transport) { alert('test'); } }); It pops up he URL alert but the test alert never comes up. Like I said it does in every other browser. I am not getting any javascript errors and I have used Firebug. I did a console.log on each event and it gets to the onLoading stage of Ajax.Request but never onLoaded. Very confused... ?

  Hi I need to segment text using fullstops using PHP/Javascript.The problem is if I use "." to split text then abbreviations , date formatting (12.03.2010 ) or urls as well split-ed , which I need to prevent.There are many such possibilities , I might not be able to imagine. How to recognize that the "." is used as fullstop and nothing else ? Say I make an asynch ajax call like so: xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange= myFoo; xmlhttp.open("GET",url,true); Here is my callback function: function myFoo() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { if (xmlhttp.status==200) { // Success message } else { // some error message } } } Now, where and when does the execution path start again? Once I make the call to open(), does execution continue directly below the open() and another "thread" enters the asynch function once the ajax request has been completed? Or, does the browser wait for the request to complete, make the Asynch call, and then execution continues right after the open? Thanks!

• Make input field background image disappear after text is inputted

  I'd like to make the background image for my input field disappear once the user has typed any amount of text in it. Is there a simple way to do that in javascript? I can get it so the bg disappears while the field is focused, but then it returns once they move on to the next field.
