• Network Password Recovery

  I am trying to recover a password for my network. It's set up like this: a network of computers, and a central server which authenticates login-passwords entered, and is also a network share. Username looks like administrator@abc. I tried to recover the password hashes from the individual CPUs, they gave this : FAFEA8FAF0D8D61FAAD3B435B51404EE. This decodes to GAGCAU and a null hash after. This password does not work for logging in to the network. Is there a way to recover the password for the network share from a non-admin network account? But our company have an private VPN, and when I connect to it, I lose access to svn.mycompany.com, but other internet sites is available. When I run nslookup from internet, svn.mycompany.com have one IP, and when run from VPN - other IP. Maybe I need to create route to this address? And if it is, can you help me to write correct command in Ubuntu Linux.

• Windows Service stops on Server Patch

  I'm a developer that has a Windows Service that runs on a production server that sends emails that are entered into a database on a database server. Although the service is set to start automatically, whenever the web server gets patched (which happens every other week), for some reason the service fails to start and various emails don't get sent. I don't actually have access to the server, so I have to request a build administrator to start the service. What I want to know is whether there is any reason for the service to fail to start when the server is patched?

  I have in Softerra LDAP Administration something like the following: server: blah.gov OU=Domain Controllers etc... ldap://subdomain.blah.gov I can't figure out how to, in C#, get those other ldap subdomain query strings. I'm not sure how else to explain it, so ask questions and I'll try to clarify. Updated: This is what Softerra LDAP Administrator looks like. The ldap queries near the bottom are not children of the above node, but somehow, the program knows about them and linked them in the GUI. If I could figure out how, that would fix my problem.

I never ever used a real Server ( only a Desktop Pc with apache ) The Company i am working for is growing and they want to switch to a real Server.   How can I run three commands in a launcher? My commands are cd /home/seraex/MyDoc rm MyDoc.tgz tar cfz MyDoc.tgz * which will go to my documents folder and delete old backup and make a new backup. At the moment I make a text file and then make a launcher and point it to the file, but I want to delete the file and make the launcher run the commands directly.   In our production server suddenly /dev/null became a regular file and due to this sshd service got stopped and not able to login the server. And also we tried to the below steps to configure back to character device file, rm -rf /dev/null mknod /dev/null c 1 3 As soon as we run the rm command /dev/null is being re-created as a regular file before mknod can run. We can't figure out how this happening and which component is creating this file. So until we solve this issue we are unable to create /dev/null as character device file.

• Can't delete profile

  Hi All, I have a client machine (XP SP3) which used to be connected to a windows 2003 domain, but the server has since gone down due to a hard drive failure, however the profiles still remain in 'documents and settings'. I have a local admin account on the same machine (in the administrator's group), except when i try to remove the profiles manually from System Properties - Advanced - User Profiles - Settings, the delete button is disabled. Also, Windows prevents me from deleting or renaming the user's profile folder as well, due to a lock with ntuser.dat Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated, Cheers!

• Windows 7 user limitation

  I just installed Windows 7 pro x64 from Dreamspark (MSDNAA). But i can't figure out how to configure it. 1/ When I want to acces some folders a pop up show up and tells me "that I need administrator acces to do it" I click the "continue" button and I can go inside the folder. What was even the point in showing me this pop up? how can I remove it? 2/ In some folder when I do a right clic I can only create a new folder, not a new text file, not a rar, nothing. In the same folder I also cannot extract RAR (by doing right clic, extract here) Any Idea how to get back full control? Thanks.

• Multiple desktops in Windows

  I'm running a program that uses WatiN to automate file uploads to different websites. I currently run it on a machine that I remote into via the standard Remote Desktop Connection in Windows - once I start an upload, I go ahead and continue using my local machine. Soon, I'll be needing to run it locally. The problem is that it requires focus (which is unavoidable due to WatiN utilizing SendKeys) and I of course don't want to render my machine useless while it runs. So, my question: Is there any way to emulate the multiple desktops/workspaces that have been in many Linux distros for some time? I tried VirtuaWin to no avail. Alternatively, is there a way to remote into a machine from itself? Or is there some other means of creating a separate session on the same machine that does not steal focus? Running Linux is not an option, and a VM would be overkill.

Here are some solutions and why they don't fit: rsync: Needs to check recursively all files. There are some million files and only little changes. The check takes too long. unison: the same: needs to check all files. inotify: I need a handler for every directory and there too many. Inotify was not build for "watch all files" scenarios. DRDB: Both sides should run independent.

I'm Using IIS7 and DNS Server What I need is that a url such as: mail.domainA.com points to www.domainB.com/webmail And I want to do this for all other domains... I want all of my domains that start with mail., point to www.domainB.com/webmail In short: I need a Subdomain to redirect to another URL... An improvement would be to let the subdomain as it is on the address bar on the redirection, if possible... Any help?

• Password format not liked by installer

  I'm installing Chargeback and I get to the database-related information page (step 5 on page 17 of the users guide). Using a Windows account (it is an administrator of the server and I am logged on as that user) Username: DOMAIN\ServiceVMware-CB Password: #$%UuuU2u (this isn't the password but it does start with #$% and is the same length and case) I click the Test Connected and it returns back OK. I click Next and then I am given a warning telling me that the account does not have the right permissions. Check that it has log on as a service etc etc etc. I quit the installer. I change the password in the domain to Uuuuuu3 I reboot the server I restart the server The installer has no problems with the newer password. I'm not fussed either way, I'm just trying to save someone else the pain and perhaps the allowed password format could be added to the documentation. BTW I am using Server 2008 SP2 x64 with SQL Express 2005 x64.

• Xubuntu 12.04: Slow Login

  I'm running Xubuntu 12.04, and after I ran the update, my login started slowing down big time. I've dabbled a little bit with the programs in Settings - Settings Manager - Session and Startup, and tried closing and opening these programs, and then rebooting. Anyways, I narrowed it down to a combination of 2 processes, "Network" (the connection manager) and "Xfce Volume Daemon". Their corresponding terminal commands are: ~$ nm-applet ~$ xfce4-volumed If I disable them, and then run them after login is complete, everything works just fine. Is there a way for me to run these commands automatically at start up? I want to maybe write a shell script and save it somewhere, or at least edit the order things happen after login, so the desktop can load before these processes. • Easiest way to get feedback from an EC2 instance

  I need to run a script on an ec2 instance once a day, and I'd like to have some easy way for it to let me know if something went wrong. I would prefer not to have to modify the original image, which is a recent version of Ubuntu, so ideally I'd like to do all setup in the script I pass to the Ubuntu instance through the ec2-run-instances command. I've considered creating a gmail account for it, and letting it send email through that - but the setup was rather involved, with certificates and such things. I've looked at using the gist API, but anything uploaded through it is public. The Google command line tool also appears quite complicated to set up. Is there some easier way to do this?

  From time to time firefox cause to my Ubuntu machine to stuck.(nothing run on the machine except firefox) I cant move the mouse or move windows by keyboard. In some cases i have wait for a few minutes and than close last open tab in firefox and it solve the problem in other cases i do restart. Is there any way to prevent it, limit forefox in some way? In windows in most cased even with 100% cpu you can do alt-ctrl-delete and get the task manager, is there a top priority combination in linux that give you terminal? Or any other way ... Run on Ubuntux86 with GNOME , 2GB RAM, dual core cpu

• How to force a drop of MSSQL Server database

  I am trying to delete an MSSQL Server database, however I am having no luck. I have tried multiple things such as user ALTER DATABASE my_database SET RESTRICTED_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE; GO DROP DATABASE my_database; GO I have also tried to right click on it a delete it. This does not work, it tells me "Cannot drop database "ima_debts" because it is currently in use". The thing is there is definately no other user connected to it. In fact I disabled TCP/IP for the database and restarted it. Not even "Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (Administrator)" is connected to it. I have made sure to login to "master". Why is it telling me it is currently in use. Is it possible for me to delete perhaps a directory or something from the file system to get rid of this database? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Unable to load directory when using jar [on hold]

Now, when i run the application from eclipse, i can read the files (using #1 below). but, when i export my application to jar and run it from other pc i can't read the files or even check whether the directory exist or not. • SharePoint 2010 - Access denied during ApplyWebConfigModifications()

  I have SharePoint 2010 installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine which is also hosting SQL Sever 2008 R2. I am attempting to deploy a solution that includes web parts in the 2010 environment that is working fine in MOSS 2007. The Web Part feature has a feature receiver that updates the web.config. When I try to activate the feature through the Site Collection Feature GUI, I receive an access denied message. I am logged on to the server and in SharePoint with the APP Pool account which is also a member of the domain administrator group, local administrator group and SharePoint Farm Admin group. This account is also dbo on SQL Server. This same feature activates fine using the stsadm command. I have dug into this issue at length and here is what I have found: Looking at the Microsoft assemblies in reflector, my error is coming from the SPWebApplication.ApplyWebConfigModifications() method. I can see the trace statements from SPWebConfigFileChanges.RemoveModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument and SPWebConfigFileChanges.ApplyModificationsWebConfigXMLDocument. The next line is a Save(str). • Class initialization issues loading java.util.LogManager in Android Dalvik VM

  I've done changes in an Android native library and installed a new system.img file but am now getting an unrelated Error on startup. I can get past it by swallowing the error but I wanted to know if anyone can explain what the issue is. The Android implementation of Logger.java claims that it is Forcing the LogManager to be initialized since its class init code performs necessary one-time setup. But this forced initialization results in a NoClassDefFoundError. I'm thinking that it has something to do with the class not having been preloaded by Zygote yet but am not that familiar with the whole class loaders and VM business.
