• Playing multiple FLVs at the same time feasible?

  Hi, Is it feasible to play a number of FLV files at the same time on one SWF? Basically I have a brief to create a video banner with a number of FLVs of people playing at the same time but starting at different points in the videos. My concerns are with loading times, memory consumption and the starting of each FLV at a different point and looping it. The FLVs will be stored on a server and pseudo-streamed. • How do I make an on-screen HUD in libgdx?

  I'm new to libgdx, and I am finding I am getting stumped by the simplest of things. It seems to want me to do things a specific way, but the documentation won't tell me what that is. I want to make a very simple 2d game in which the player controls a spaceship. The mouse wheel will zoom in and out, and information and controls are displayed on the screen. But I can't seem to make the mouse wheel NOT zoom the UI. I've tried futzing with the projection matrices in between Here's my (current) code: public class PlayStage extends Stage { ... public void draw() { // tell the camera to update its matrices. camera.update(); // tell the SpriteBatch to render in the // coordinate system specified by the camera. spriteBatch.setProjectionMatrix(camera.combined); spriteBatch.begin(); aButton.draw(spriteBatch, 1F); playerShip.draw(spriteBatch, 1F); spriteBatch.end(); } } camera.zoom is set by scrolled(int amount). I've tried about a dozen variations on the theme of changing the camera's projection matrix after the button is drawn but before the ship is, but no matter what I do, the same things happen to both the button and the ship. So: What is the usual libgdx way of implementing an on-screen UI that isn't transformed by the camera's projection matrix/zoom?

With just a few tweaks you can make Live Mail minimize to the system tray just like in earlier versions of Windows. Windows Live Mail in Windows Vista In Windows Vista you could minimize Windows Live Mail to the system tray if desired using the context menu… Windows Live Mail in Windows 7 In Windows 7 you can minimize the app window but not hide it in the system tray. The Hide window when minimized menu entry is missing from the context menu and all you have is the window icon taking up space in your taskbar. How to Add the Context Menu Entry Back Right click on the program shortcut(s) and select properties. When the properties window opens click on the compatibility tab and enable the Run this program in compatibility mode for setting. Choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) from the drop-down menu and click OK. Once you have restarted Windows Live Mail you will have access to the Hide window when minimized menu entry again. And just like that your taskbar is clear again when Windows Live Mail is minimized. If you have wanted the ability to minimize Windows Live Mail to the system tray in Windows 7 then this little tweak will fix the problem. Price: $150 for Blu-ray.   Want to learn the fundamentals of electronics in a fun, hands-on way? The Make:Electronics book helps you build the circuits and learn how it all works—as if you had any more time between all that registry hacking and loading software on your new PC. Price: $21       Geeky Gadgets for the Gadget-Loving Geek Here’s a few of the items on our gadget list, though lets be honest: geeks are going to love almost any gadget, especially shiny new ones. Klipsch Image S4i Premium Noise-Isolating Headset with 3-Button Apple Control   GP2X Caanoo MAME/Console Emulator If you’re a real music geek looking for some serious quality in the headset for your iPhone or iPod, this is the pair that Alex recommends. They aren’t terribly cheap, but you can get the less expensive S3 earphones instead if you prefer. Price: $50-100   Eric says: “As an owner of an older version, I can say the GP2X is one of my favorite gadgets ever. Touted a “Retro Emulation Juggernaut,” GP2X runs Linux and may be the only open source software console available. Sounds too good to be true, but isn’t.” Price: $150 Roku XDS Streaming Player 1080p   Western Digital WD TV Live Plus HD Media Player If you do a lot of streaming over Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon’s Video on Demand, Pandora, and others, the Roku box is a great choice to get your content on your TV without paying a lot of money.  It’s also got Wireless-N built in, and it supports full 1080P HD. Price: $99   If you’ve got a home media collection sitting on a hard drive or a network server, the Western Digital box is probably the cheapest way to get that content on your TV, and it even supports Netflix streaming too. It’ll play loads of formats in full HD quality. Price: $99 Fujitsu ScanSnap S300 Color Mobile Scanner   Doxie, the amazing scanner for documents Trevor said: “This wonderful little scanner has become absolutely essential to me. My desk used to just be a gigantic pile of papers that I didn’t need at the moment, but couldn’t throw away ‘just in case.’ Now, every few weeks, I’ll run that paper pile through this and then happily shred the originals!” Price: $300   If you don’t scan quite as often and are looking for a budget scanner you can throw into your bag, or toss into a drawer in your desk, the Doxie scanner is a great alternative that I’ve been using for a while. It’s half the price, and while it’s not as full-featured as the Fujitsu, it might be a better choice for the very casual user. Price: $150       (Expensive) Gadgets Almost Anybody Will Love If you’re not sure that one of the more geeky presents is gonna work, here’s some gadgets that just about anybody is going to love, especially if they don’t have one already. Of course, some of these are a bit on the expensive side—but it’s a wish list, right? Amazon Kindle       The Kindle weighs less than a paperback book, the screen is amazing and easy on the eyes, and get ready for the kicker: the battery lasts at least a month. We aren’t kidding, either—it really lasts that long. If you don’t feel like spending money for books, you can use it to read PDFs, and if you want to get really geeky, you can hack it for custom screensavers. Price: $139 iPod Touch or iPad       You can’t go wrong with either of these presents—the iPod Touch can do almost everything the iPhone can do, including games, apps, and music, and it has the same Retina display as the iPhone, HD video recording, and a front-facing camera so you can use FaceTime. Price: $229+, depending on model. The iPad is a great tablet for playing games, browsing the web, or just using on your coffee table for guests. It’s well worth buying one—but if you’re buying for yourself, keep in mind that the iPad 2 is probably coming out in 3 months. Price: $500+ MacBook Air  The MacBook Air comes in 11” or 13” versions, and it’s an amazing little machine. It’s lightweight, the battery lasts nearly forever, and it resumes from sleep almost instantly. Since it uses an SSD drive instead of a hard drive, you’re barely going to notice any speed problems for general use. So if you’ve got a lot of money to blow, this is a killer gift. Price: $999 and up. Stuck with No Idea for a Present? Gift Cards! Yeah, you’re not going to win any “thoughtful present” awards with these, but you might just give somebody what they really want—the new Angry Birds HD for their iPad, Cut the Rope, or anything else they want. ITunes Gift Card   Amazon.com Gift Card Somebody in your circle getting a new iPod, iPhone, or iPad? You can get them an iTunes gift card, which they can use to buy music, games or apps. Yep, this way you can gift them a copy of Angry Birds if they don’t already have it. Or even Cut the Rope.   No clue what to get somebody on your list?   2.5D ("two-and-a-half-dimensional"), 3/4 perspective and pseudo-3D are terms used to describe either: graphical projections and techniques which cause a series of images or scenes to fake or appear to be three-dimensional (3D) when in fact they are not, or gameplay in an otherwise three-dimensional video game that is restricted to a two-dimensional plane. (Information taken from Wikipedia.org) I have a question based on 2.5D game development. As stated before, 2.5D uses graphical projections and techniques to make fake 3d or a gameplay restricted to a two-dimensional plane. A good example is a TQ Digital made game: Zero Online (screenshot) the whole map is made of 2d images and only NPCs and players are 3d. The maps were drawn manually by hand without any 3d software rendering. As I'm playing the game I feel like I'm going from a lower part of the map (ground) to a higher one (some metal platform) and it feels like I'm moving in 3 dimensions. But when I look closely, I see that the player size didn't change and the shadow too but I'm still feeling like I'm somehow higher then before (I had rendered a simple map myself that I made in 3dmax but it didn't quite give the result I wanted). How to accomplish such an effect?

• Where to find other versions of Opera browser as deb packages?

  I used Opera mainly for the Unite feature now to be abandoned. It is missing in v. 12. Some say its features will re-emerge in future extensions etc. Until then, Unite is still accessible in v. 11. Where do I get the v.11 deb? P.S. In fact it seems that opera unite (at least in its older form) is dying while I am editing this question. Access to opera-unite applications from within opera-unite is poor or absent. This issue is obscure to me for now (31.08.2012) because yesterday I have installed v12 in Windows OS (with opera-unite and basic applications - file sharing and media player - already installed) and it is still working (server is working). The v12 Ubuntu version came today without unite, and after installing v11 (which has unite) I could not get applications (file sharing, etc). But they are still available: here and after downloading these files which have te .ua extension, they can be installed by opening them with Opera (v.11) But as opera-unite is no longer supported, it is possible that the server that provides the file sharing etc will soon be unaccessible. Even if that is the case the question should maybe not be closed at it has a general usefulness independently of the unite issue.
