• 12.04/ RecordMyDesktop the sound isnt working...... Why?

  im unable to record sound using this app. the check box is checked for the sound, it just doesnt record sound. idk what to do. i have ubuntu 12.04 64bit. plus nvidia drivers dont work what so ever. so im just using the default ubuntu drivers. i looked up the site for this app. they dont give an instructions on sound for this program. any help me please??? the microphone sound input works with it. but it cant record system sounds.

• How can I permute pairs across a set?

  I am writing a bet settling app in C# and WinForms. I have 6 selections, 4 of them have won. I know that using the following formula from Excel: =FACT(selections)/(FACT(selections-doubles))/FACT(doubles) This is coded into my app and working well: I can work out how many possible doubles (e.g., AB, AC, AD, AE, BC, BD, BE, etc.) need to be resolved. But what I can't figure out is how to do the actual calculation. How can I efficiently code it so that every combination of A, B, C, and D has been calculated? All my efforts thus far on paper have proved to be ugly and verbose: is there an elegant solution to this problem?

• Amazon GameCircle Integration

  I'm trying to integrate Amazon GameCircle and I have been able to successfully initialize GameCircle in my app, but the problem is when I click on the button that displays achievements, the GameCircle achievement list comes up but it says "You have unlocked 0 of 0 achievements". Same happens with leaderboards i.e there are no leaderboards for this app. I have created a Leaderboard and a few achievements on the online developer portal for Amazon but they don't show for some reason. Can someone help me with this. Any links/resources that help with integrating GameCircle will be appreciated. Thanks.

• XNA Drag Gestures - fractional delta values

  I have an issue with objects moving roughly twice as far as expected when dragging them. I am comparing my application to the standard TouchGestureSample sample from MSDN. For some reason in my application gesture samples have fractional positions and deltas. Both are using same Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Input.Touch.dll, v4.0.30319. I am running both apps using standard Windows Phone Emulator. I am setting my break point immediately after this line of code in a simple Update method: GestureSample gesture = TouchPanel.ReadGesture(); Typical values in my app: Delta = {X:-13.56522 Y:4.166667} Position = {X:184.6956 Y:417.7083} Typical values in sample app: Delta = {X:7 Y:16} Position = {X:497 Y:244} Have anyone seen this issue? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

• Profiling and containing memory per system

  I have been interesting in profiling and keeping a managed memory pool for each subsystem, so I could get statistic on how much memory was being used in something such as sounds or graphics. However, what is the best design for doing this? I was thinking of using multiple allocators and just using one per subsystem, however, that would result in global variables for my allocators (or so it would seem to me). Another approach I have seen/been suggested is to just overload new and pass in an allocator for a parameter. I had a similar question over on stackoverflow here with a bounty, however, it seems as if perhaps I was too vague or just there is not enough people with knowledge in the subject.

• iTunes Connect: Can I have one bank account for every currency I receive?

  As I understand it, Apple does not do currency exchanges when they pay the app developers, they just forward the 70% share in the currency the customers bought it. So, if an app is available in different markets, the developer receives payments in different currencies. Is there a way to enter one bank account for every currency? For example, I'd like to set up a bank account in EUR for payments in EUR, one in GBP for payments in GBP, and likewise for USD etc. If all payments are going to the same bank account, my bank charges high conversion rates every time a payment in a 'foreign' currency comes in.

• Setting density for Android game

  I am developing an Android game, in which a ball (bitmap) translates( is in motion). So I have provided motion equations for the ball. I have checked my app on Samsung galaxy S2 whose actual density is roundly 252 dpi, and It works fine on that. So my question is that Does these motions of bitmaps in surfaceView, depends on actual density of phone( i.e 252 dpi for S2) or generalized density(i.e 240 dpi). I am confused whether if I run this app on 235 dpi smartphone, So will it have the same performance of motion as it is on Galaxy S2( with 252 dpi) or it would be little slow ? Any help will be appreciated.

  I'm building an Android app and associated set of web services for uploading/downloading data. I need a basic (no frills) solution for account management (register, login, logout, verify credentials/token). What open source / third party solutions exist for this scenario? I need: create a new account db based on a salt simple web service to create a new account simple web service to authenticate supplied credentials and return some sort of token That's it, I can get by without 'fancy' email activation or password reset for the time being. Are there off-the-shelf components for this? Should I just use a 'blank' django or rails app to get this done? Seems crazy for everyone to be doing CREATE TABLE user_accounts ... Thoughts? Set your ARC min=max to reserve the maximum amount of your remaining memory for your running VMs. In /etc/system: set zfs:zfs_arc_min = 5368709120 set zfs:zfs_arc_max = 5368709120 The amount you need to reserve will depend on your template but this has proven to be a great start for a typical windows 7 VM running productivity applications.

  I recently started a new job as a contract developer, and my non-developer boss of about two weeks ago gave me the task to re-create an app from another language and developer that he will reuse with multiple clients (replacing the front-end), that I estimated would take longer than his estimate of 12 hours. Two weeks later, I'm 230% over-budget. I admit this was my 2nd web app, I had been a wordpress developer in the past, so I am somewhat new to code igniter, but not shabby php by any means. My boss hired me knowing this and I was clear that it would take longer than his 12 hours. He's seen me in the office on task for 2 weeks, he should be somewhat prepared for this bill. Do I expect the full amount of hours, or do I filter against how much of learned? Can I bill for research as a developer?

• Concurrency Utilities for Java EE Early Draft (JSR 236)

  Concurrency Utilities for Java EE is being worked as JSR 236 and has released an Early Draft. It provides concurrency capabilities to Java EE application components without compromising container integrity. Simple (common) and advanced concurrency patterns are easily supported without sacrificing usability. Using Java SE concurrency utilities such as java.util.concurrent API, java.lang.Thread and java.util.Timer in a Java EE application component such as EJB or Servlet are problematic since the container and server have no knowledge of these resources. JSR 236 enables concurrency largely by extending the Concurrency Utilities API developed under JSR-166. This also allows a consistency between Java SE and Java EE concurrency programming model. There are four main programming interfaces available: ManagedExecutorService ManagedScheduledExecutorService ContextService ManagedThreadFactory ManagedExecutorService is a managed version of java.util.concurrent.ExecutorService. The implementations of this interface are provided by the container and accessible using JNDI reference: <resource-env-ref>  <resource-env-ref-name>    concurrent/BatchExecutor  </resource-env-ref-name>  <resource-env-ref-type>    javax.enterprise.concurrent.ManagedExecutorService  </resource-env-ref-type><resource-env-ref> and available as: @Resource(name="concurrent/BatchExecutor")ManagedExecutorService executor; Its recommended to bind the JNDI references in the java:comp/env/concurrent subcontext. • Googlebot requesting invalid url

  I have a web app which emails me exceptions automatically. This morning there was an error relating to a url: /Catalog/LiveCatalog?id=ylwpfqzts id is invalid (should be a guid) and caused an error parsing. Everything was handled correctly, and an error page is returned. But what was odd is that the user-agent reported itself as Googlebot and the IP is registered to Google. The URL would never have been generated by my web app but doesn't look particularly malicious. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

• Can we grant sudo to an already opened application?

  So, can we grant sudo to an already opened application ? I wish to first open an application as normal user and incase if i need root permissions on it i wish to grant su without restarting the application.. I tried opening an application and then type "sudo appname" in terminal, but that opens a new app window retaining normal user permissions on old app window. Say, i want to check and edit /etc/apt/sources.list . I open a filemanager and go to the path and click on sources.list which opens a text editor with that file in view. If i feel i need to edit that, then i want to grant sudo to that instance of text editor rather than opening a new root text editor and browsing the entire path.

  I would like some pointers to information which would help me understand how to go about providing the ability to filter a list of entities by their attributes as well as by attributes of related entities. As an example, imagine a web app which provides order management of some kind. Orders and related entities are stored in a relational database. And imagine that the app has an interface which lists the orders. The problem is: how does one allow the list to be filtered by, for example:- order number (an attribute) line item name (an attribute of a n-n related entity) some text in an administrative note related to the order (text found in an attribute of a 1-1 related entity) I'm trying to discover whether there is something like a standard, efficient way to construct the queries and the filtering form; or some possible strategies; or any theory on the topic; or some example code. My google foo fails me.

  I was wondering about the support for Ubuntu in general? If a (small/large)business is running Ubuntu, what type of issues does Canonical help out with? examples: if a business is running a windows app, via wine does canonical help out with that when a business is running software that is not installed via the software but via PPA(stable/beta) and or downloaded manually. Some examples apps libreoffice/handbrake/openshot etc... etc... does Canonical give support when those app have issues? when a business is trying to migrate from lotes notes/outlook to thunderbird? sorry if this is a bit vague, but i don't really know much about support... be as detailed possible! • How to simulate a USB plug?

  I have an app that implements some automations when an USB key is plugged. While developing, I have to test it in a specific environment (derivative from Debian Squeeze). The app subscribe to HAL events via DBUS. The problem is: my desk is on the third floor while my test machines are in the basement. I would really like to have a way to simulate a USB plug. usbip does not work on Ubuntu. I can't manage to use the g_mass_storage module on Ubuntu (I lack the dummy_hcd module) and in Debian. Maybe it is possible to simulate a dbus call? My work station is on Ubuntu 12.04.

• Adapting Javascript game for mobile

  I'm currently developing a Javascript web game for desktop users. It is a sort of tower-defense game that relies on mouse input only, developed on canvas using EaselJS. In the future, or perhaps simultaneously, I would like to adapt the game for mobile devices. I can see at least 3 potential areas in shifting from desktop to mobile: 1. resolution size and UI rearrangement, 2. converting mouse events to touch events, 3. distribution as native app wrapper or mobile Web. What would be the best strategy to facilitate this desktop to mobile conversion? For example, should I try to code the game for both platforms, or port the game UI over to mobile by branching the code base. Should I just publish on the mobile Web or wrap the game in a native app framework? And if I were to code for both platforms using the same codebase, should I register both click and touch events, or remap click events to touch using dispatchEvent?

  I am maintaining a VB6 application and we are studying how to migrate to .Net We are considering doing this gradually by implementing new features in COM visible .Net classes and migrating existing functionality slowly. I found some instructive 'Hello World' examples about how to do this and it works fine with our App. But how is the real world behaviour of these hybrid applications? Are they stable, maintainable? Particular of our program is that more users on the same computer will use it by switching user accounts. EDIT: The VB6 app reads data from a USB connection and stores it in an Access database. The user can call up various views on the data. The data is cached in a hardware device, so interuptions in the reading of it are not fatal.
