• trying to upgrade memory

  I've been using Ubuntu on my laptop for awhile now. Not quite used to it yet. I've got a Acer Aspire with an orig 4 gig mem/500 gig HDD. Running 12.04 presently 32 bit sys. I have the 13.04 upgrade disc and want to upgrade my memory to 8 Gig. Everytime I install the 8 gig memory, the system won't boot to either version. I downloaded the 64 bit version of both versions of Ubuntu but no results yet. Can anyone offer a suggestion here? I'm kinda lost. Additional Information: The memory was purchased through Acer/Kingston. Recommended for this computer. I watched the video on installing it, so I doubt it's installed wrong. (There's only one way of putting it in). I swapped Op Sys, from Ubuntu 12.04 to 13.04 to 13.10 and now to Xubuntu 13.10 64 bit version. I'm still not having any luck with this upgrade. Would it be necessary to upgrade the CPU? It's just a thought, I don't know what else could keep me from utilizing the new memory. Additional Information: Called Kingston this afternoon, they are sending replacement lower density memory modules 2/4 gig - 8 gig. Tech service says I need to upgrade BIOS to utilize new memory install VIA Dos since it is no longer a windows system. I'm not sure how to go about that but it's a learning process I can live with. Thank you all for your help/support. I realize this isn't a Ubuntu problem but each new user of this op sys, seems to share simular problems and maybe someone can use this info to their advantage.

  Has anyone been able to communicate using WCF on Windows Phone Series 7 emulator? I've been trying for the past two days and it's just happening for me. I can get a normal Silverlight control to work in both Silverlight 3 and Silverlight 4, but not the phone version. • Set the JAXB context factory initialization class to be used

  I have updated our projects (Java EE based running on Websphere 8.5) to use a new release of a company internal framework (and Ejb 3.x deployment descriptors rather than the 2.x ones). Since then my integration Tests fail with the following exception: [java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory] I can build the application with the previous framework release and everything works fine. While debugging i noticed that within the ContextFinder (javax.xml.bind) there are two different behaviours: Previous Version (Everything works just fine): None of the different places brings up a factory class so the default factory class gets loaded which is com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory (defined as String constant within the class). Upgraded Version (ClassNotFound): There is a resource "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" beeing loaded successfully and the first line read makes the ContextFinder attempt to load "com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory" which causes the error. I now have two questions: What sort is that resource? Because inside our EAR there is two WARs and none of those two contains a folder services in its META-INF directory. Where could that value be from otherwise? Because a filediff showed me no new or changed properties files. No need to say i am going to read all about the JAXB configuration possibilities but if you have first insights on what could have gone wrong or help me out with that resource (is it a real file i have to look for?) id appreciate a lot. Many Thanks! EDIT (according to comments Input/Questions): Out of curiosity, does your framework include JAXB JARs? Did the old version of your framework include jaxb.properties? Indeed (i am a bit surprised) the framework has a customized eclipselink-2.4.1-.jar inside the EAR that includes both a JAXB implementation and a jaxb.properties file that shows the following entry in both versions (the one that finds the factory as well as in the one that throws the exception): javax.xml.bind.context.factory=org.eclipse.persistence.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory I think this is has nothing to do with the current issue since the jar stayed exactly the same in both EARs (the one that runs/ the one with the expection) It's also not clear to me why the old version of the framework was ever selecting the com.sun implementation There is a class javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder which is responsible for initializing the JAXBContextFactory. This class searches various placess for the existance of a jaxb.properties file or a "javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext" resource. If ALL of those places dont show up which Context Factory to use there is a deault factory loaded which is hardcoded in the class itself: private static final String PLATFORM_DEFAULT_FACTORY_CLASS = "com.sun.xml.internal.bind.v2.ContextFactory"; Now back to my problem: Building with the previous version of the framework (and EJB 2.x deployment descriptors) everything works fine). While debugging i can see that there is no configuration found and thatfore above mentioned default factory is loaded. Building with the new version of the framework (and EJB 3.x deployment descriptors so i can deploy) ONLY A TESTCASE fails but the rest of the functionality works (like i can send requests to our webservice and they dont trigger any errors). While debugging i can see that there is a configuration found. This resource is named "META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext". Here are the most important lines of how this resource leads to the attempt to load 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' which then throws the ClassNotFoundException. This is simplified source of the mentioned javax.xml.bind.ContextFinder class: URL resourceURL = ClassLoader.getSystemResource("META-INF/services/javax.xml.bind.JAXBContext"); BufferedReader r = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(resourceURL.openStream(), "UTF-8")); String factoryClassName = r.readLine().trim(); The field factoryClassName now has the value 'com.ibm.xml.xlxp2.jaxb.JAXBContextFactory' (The day i understand how to format source code on stackoverflow will be my biggest step ahead.... sorry for the formatting after 20 mins it still looks the same :() Because this has become a super lager question i will also add a bounty :)

• Maven antrun with sequential ant-contrib fails to run

  We have a special routine to explode files in a subfolder into extensions, which will be copied and jared into single extension files. For this special approach I wanted to use the maven-antrun-plugin, for the sequential iteration and jar packaging through the dirset, we need the library ant-contrib. The upcoming plugin configuration fails with an error. What did I misconfigured? Thank you. The BulkDataExchange probably takes the XML payload, breaks it up, and send the pieces out to the Merchant or Trading API. The inner pieces of the payload then do not have the namespace and the get the error. This is a guess on my part but I wouldn't be surprised if this is what was going on behind the scenes.   I want MSDeploy to skip specific folders and file types within other folders when using sync. Currently I'm using CCNet to call MSDeploy with the sync verb to take websites from a build to a staging server. Because there are files on the destination that are created by the application / user uploaded files etc, I need to exclude specific folders from being deleted on the destination. Also there are manifest files created by the site that need to remain on the destination. • How can I get my Web API app to run again after upgrading to MVC 5 and Web API 2?

  I upgraded my Web API app to the funkelnagelneu versions using this guidance: http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2 However, after going through the steps (it seems all this should be automated, anyway), I tried to run it and got, "A project with an Output Type of Class Library cannot be started directly" What in Sam Hills Brothers Coffee is going on here? Who said this was a class library? So I opened Project Properties, and changed it (it was marked as "Class Library" for some reason - it either wasn't yesterday, or was and worked fine) to an Output Type of "Windows Application" ("Console Application" and "Class Library" being the only other options). Now it won't compile, complaining: "*Program 'c:\Platypus_Server_WebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\PlatypusServerWebAPI\obj\Debug\PlatypusServerWebAPI.exe' does not contain a static 'Main' method suitable for an entry point...*" How can I get my Web API app back up and running in view of this quandary? UPDATE Looking in packages.config, two entries seem chin-scratch-worthy: <package id="Microsoft.AspNet.Providers" version="1.2" targetFramework="net40" /> <package id="Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure" version="1.0.0.0" targetFramework="net40" /> All the others target net451. Could this be the problem? Should I remove these packages? UPDATE 2 I tried to uninstall the Microsoft.Web.Infrastructure package (its description leads me to believe I don't need it; also, it has no dependencies) via the NuGet package manager, but it tells me, "NuGet failed to install or uninstall the selected package in the following project(s). [mine]" UPDATE 3 I went through the steps in again, and found that I had missed one step. That has gotten me further, at least; now I see a YSOD: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.WebPages.Razor, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. UPDATE 5 Note: The project is now (after being opened as a web site) named "localhost_48614" And...there is no longer a "References" folder...?!?!? As to that YSOD I'm getting, the official instructions (http://www.asp.net/mvc/tutorials/mvc-5/how-to-upgrade-an-aspnet-mvc-4-and-web-api-project-to-aspnet-mvc-5-and-web-api-2) said to do this, and I quote: "Update all elements that contain “System.Web.WebPages.Razor” from version “2.0.0.0” to version“3.0.0.0”." UPDATE 6 When I select Tools Library Package Manager Manage NuGet Packages for Solution now, I get, "Operation failed. Unable to locate the solution directory. Please ensure that the solution has been saved." So I save it, and it saves it with this funky new name (C:\Users\clay\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\localhost_48614\localhost_48614.sln) I get the Yellow Strip of Enlightenment across the top of the NuGet Package Manager telling me, "Some NuGet packages are missing from this solution. Click to restore from your online package sources." I do (click the "Restore" button, that is), and it downloads the missing packages ... I end up with the 30 packages. • How to create a HTML5 + SVG document using the PHP XSLTProcessor

  For a little project about XML I try to use HTML5 as it has SVG and WAI-ARIA Support. I also want to use a XSL stylesheet for my document. But I can't get a valid HTML5 document with a nested SVG. Using header('Content-Type: image/xhtml+svg'); or header('Content-Type: text/html'); there is no XML parsing error, but the page will not show the SVG as a graph but as text (without the tags). Can anyone tell me how to avoid the meta tag to be inserted or how to set a propper Content-Type that will make the browser rendern the SVG. Or even any other hint to get this working. I would really like to keep HTML5 to be able to keep the WAI-ARIA Landmark Roles an the HTML5 tags like NAV and FOOTER.

• Cannot Logout of Facebook with Facebook C# SDK

  I think I've read just about everything out there on the topic of logging out of Facebook inside of a Desktop application. Nothing so far works. Specifically, I would like to log the user out so that they can switch identities, e.g. People sharing a computer at home could then use the software with their own Facebook accounts, but with no chance to switch accounts, it's quite messy. (Have not yet tested switching Windows users accounts as that is simply far too much to ask of the end user and should not be necessary.) Now, I should say that I have set the application to use these permissions: string[] permissions = new string[] { "user_photos", "publish_stream", "offline_access" }; So, "offline_access" is included there. I do not know if this does/should affect logging out or not. Again, my purpose for logging out is merely to switch users. (If there's a better approach, please let me know.) The purported solutions seem to be: Use the JavaScript SDK (FB.logout()) Use "m.facebook.com" instead Create your own URL (and possibly use m.facebook.com) Create your own URL and use the session variable (in ASP.NET) The first is kind of silly. Why resort to JavaScript when you're using C#? It's kind of a step backwards and has a lot of additional overhead in a desktop application. (I have not tried this as it's simply disgustingly messy to do this in a desktop application.) If anyone can confirm that this is the only working method, please do so. I'm desperately trying to avoid it. The second doesn't work. Perhaps it worked in the past, but my umpteen attempts to get it to work have all failed. The third doesn't work. I've tried umpteen dozen variations with zero success. The last option there doesn't work for a desktop application because it's not ASP.NET and you don't have a session variable to work with. The Facebook C# SDK logout also no longer works. i.e. public FacebookLoginDialog(string appId, string[] extendedPermissions, bool logout) { IDictionary<string, object> loginParameters = new Dictionary<string, object> { { "response_type", "token" }, { "display", "popup" } }; _navigateUri = FacebookOAuthClient.GetLoginUrl(appId, null, extendedPermissions, logout, loginParameters); InitializeComponent(); } I remember it working in the past, but it no longer works now. (Which truly puzzles me...) It instead now directs the user to the Facebook mobile page, where the user must manually logout. Now, I could do browser automation to automatically click the logout link for the user, however, this is prone to breaking if Facebook updates the mobile UI. It is also messy, and possibly a worse solution than trying to use the JavaScript SDK FB.logout() method (though not by much). I have searched for some kind of documentation, however, I cannot find anything in the Facebook developer documentation that illustrates how to logout an application. Has anyone solved this problem, or seen any documentation that can be ported to work with the Facebook C# SDK? I am certainly open to using a WebClient or HttpClient/Response if anyone can point to some documentation that could work with it. I simply have not been able to find any low-level documentation that shows how this approach could work. Thank you in advance for any advice, pointers, or links.

• Search Form in Responsive Design - Remove Search button on Mobile

  I'm working with a search box in the header of a responsive website. On desktop/tablet widths, there's a search input field and a styled 'search' button to the right. You can type in a search term and either click 'SEARCH' button or just hit enter on the keyboard with the same result. When you scale down to mobile widths, the search input field fills the width of the screen. The submit button falls below it. On a desktop, clicking the button or hitting enter activate the search. On an actual iphone phone, you can hit the 'SEARCH' button, but the native mobile keyboard that rises from the bottom of the screen has a search button where the enter/return key would normally be. It seems to know I'm in a form and the keyboard automatically gives me the option to kick off the search by basically hitting the ENTER key location....but it says SEARCH. So far so good. I figure I don't need the button in the header on mobile since it's already in the keyboard. Therefore, I'll hide the button on mobile widths and everything will be tighter and look better. So I added this to my CSS to hide it in mobile: #search-button {display: none;} But now the search doesn't work at all. On mobile, I don't get the option in the keyboard that showed up before and if I just hit enter, it doesn't work at all. On desktop at mobile width, hitting enter also not longer works. So clearly by hiding the submit/search button, the phone no longer gave me the native option to run the search. In addition, on the desktop at mobile width, even hitting enter inside the search input box also fails to launch the the search. • IIS7 MVC deploy - 404 not found on actions that accept "id" parameter.

  Hello. Once deployed parts of my web-application stop working. Index-es on each controller do work, and one form posting via Ajax, Login works too. Other then that yields 404. I understand that nothing particular should be done in integrated mode. I don't know how to proceed with troubleshooting. Some info: App is using default app pool set to integrated mode. WebApp is done in net framework 3.5. I use default routing model. Along web.config in root there is web.config in /View folder referencing HttpNotFoundHandler. OS is Windows Server 2008. Admins issued aspnet_regiis.exe -i IIS 7 Any help is appreciated. Thx. EDIT: I determined that only actions that accept ID parameter don't work. On the contrary, when I add dummy id method in Home controller of default MVC app it works. • Access Violation Using memcpy or Assignment to an Array in a Struct

  Hi, I wrote a program last night that worked just fine but when I refactored it today to make it more extensible, I ended up with a problem. The original version had a hard-coded array of bytes. After some processing, some bytes were written into the array and then some more processing was done. To avoid hard-coding the pattern, I put the array in a structure so that I could add some related data and create an array of them. However now, I cannot write to the array in the structure. Here’s a pseudo-code example: main() { char pattern[]="\x32\x33\x12\x13\xba\xbb"; PrintData(pattern); pattern[2]='\x65'; PrintData(pattern); } That one works but this one does not: struct ENTRY { char* pattern; int somenum; }; main() { ENTRY Entries[] = { {"\x32\x33\x12\x13\xba\xbb\x9a\xbc", 44} , {"\x12\x34\x56\x78", 555} }; PrintData(Entries[0].pattern); Entries[0].pattern[2]='\x65'; //0xC0000005 exception!!! :( PrintData(Entries[0].pattern); } The second version causes an access violation exception on the assignment. I’m sure it’s because the second version allocates memory differently, but I’m starting to get a headache trying to figure out what’s what or how to get fix this. (I’m currently working around it by dynamically allocating a buffer of the same size as the pattern array, copying the pattern to the new buffer, making the changes to the buffer, using the buffer in the place of the pattern array, and then trying to remember to free the—temporary—buffer.) (Specifically, the original version cast the pattern array—+offset—to a DWORD* and assigned a DWORD constant to it to overwrite the four target bytes. The new version cannot do that since the length of the source is unknown—may not be four bytes—so it uses memcpy instead. I’ve checked and re-checked and have made sure that the pointers to memcpy are correct, but I still get an access violation. I use memcpy instead of str(n)cpy because I am using plain chars (as an array of bytes), not Unicode chars and ignoring the null-terminator. Using an assignment as above causes the same problem.) Any ideas? Thanks a lot.

• Specifying Android project dependencies (in Eclipse)

  I have two Android projects, a 'library project' containing a custom layout, and an 'application project' containing an application which uses the layout. Everything seems to build and execute fine, except that the visual layout editor throws a ClassNotFoundException (which I assume is a bug in the plug-in), but when I try to start to make use of the attributes I defined for the custom layout in the xml, I can no longer build. The layout_horizontalSpacing attribute (and layout_verticalSpacing) is a custom attribute used in the PredicateLayout.LayoutParam class to specify the distance to the next widget. So far I've tried the standard eclipse ways by specifying project references and build path project dependencies. I was also told to try the tag in the application manifest, which did not help. So, what do I need to do for the references in the xml-file to work?   Hello, Probably I'm doing something wrong but here it goes: I'm trying to create a database using subsonic.migrations in an OracleXE version 10.2.0.1.0. I have ODP v 10.2.0.2.20 installed. Thanks a lot for any help :) Andre Carlucci UPDATE: As pointed by Anton, the problem is the subsonic OracleSqlGenerator. It is trying to create the schema table using this sql: CREATE TABLE SubSonicSchemaInfo ( version int NOT NULL CONSTRAINT DF_SubSonicSchemaInfo_version DEFAULT (0) ) Which doesn't work on oracle. The correct sql would be: CREATE TABLE SubSonicSchemaInfo ( version int DEFAULT (0), constraint DF_SubSonicSchemaInfo_version primary key (version) ) The funny thing is that since this is the very first sql executed by subsonic migrations, NOBODY EVER TESTED it on oracle.

• Mouse wheel not scrolling in JDialog but working in JFrame

  Hello, I'm facing a frustrating issue. I have an application where the scroll wheel doesn't work in a JDialog window (but works in a JFrame).
