Also .. I've Another Problem With Update Manager That Shows Me The Following Message: " the package system is broken. Check if you are using third party repositories. If so disable them, since they are a common source of problems. Furthermore run the following command in a Terminal: apt-get install -f" also, i tried sudo apt-get install -f i got this error... • June 2013 release of SSDT contains a minor bug that you should be aware of

  I have discovered what seems, to me, like a bug in the June 2013 release of SSDT and given the problems that it created yesterday on my current gig I thought it prudent to write this blog post to inform people of it. I’ve built a very simple SSDT project to reproduce the problem that has just two tables, [Table1] and [Table2], and also a procedure [Procedure1]: The two tables have exactly the same definition, both a have a single column called [Id] of type integer. CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Table1] (     [Id] INT NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY ) My stored procedure simply joins the two together, orders them by the column used in the join predicate, and returns the results: CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Procedure1] AS     SELECT t1.*     FROM    Table1 t1     INNER JOIN Table2 t2         ON    t1.Id = t2.Id     ORDER BY Id Now if I create those three objects manually and then execute the stored procedure, it works fine: So we know that the code works. Unfortunately, SSDT thinks that there is an error here: The text of that error is: Procedure: [dbo].[Procedure1] contains an unresolved reference to an object. Either the object does not exist or the reference is ambiguous because it could refer to any of the following objects: [dbo].[Table1].[Id] or [dbo].[Table2].[Id]. Its complaining that the [Id] field in the ORDER BY clause is ambiguous. Now you may well be thinking at this point “OK, just stick a table alias into the ORDER BY predicate and everything will be fine!” Well that’s true, but there’s a bigger problem here. One of the developers at my current client installed this drop of SSDT and all of a sudden all the builds started failing on his machine – he had errors left right and centre because, as it transpires, we have a fair bit of code that exhibits this scenario.  Worse, previous installations of SSDT do not flag this code as erroneous and therein lies the rub. We immediately had a mass panic where we had to run around the department to our developers (of which there are many) ensuring that none of them should upgrade their SSDT installation if they wanted to carry on being productive for the rest of the day. Also bear in mind that as soon as a new drop of SSDT comes out then the previous version is instantly unavailable so rolling back is going to be impossible unless you have created an administrative install of SSDT for that previous version. Just thought you should know! In the grand schema of things this isn’t a big deal as the bug can be worked around with a simple code modification but forewarned is forearmed so they say! • Security Alert for CVE-2012-4681 Released

  Hi, this is Eric Maurice again! Oracle has just released Security Alert CVE-2012-4681 to address 3 distinct but related vulnerabilities and one security-in-depth issue affecting Java running in desktop browsers.  These vulnerabilities are: CVE-2012-4681, CVE-2012-1682, CVE-2012-3136, and CVE-2012-0547.  These vulnerabilities are not applicable to standalone Java desktop applications or Java running on servers, i.e. these vulnerabilities do not affect any Oracle server based software. Vulnerabilities CVE-2012-4681, CVE-2012-1682, and CVE-2012-3136 have each received a CVSS Base Score of 10.0.  This score assumes that the affected users have administrative privileges, as is typical in Windows XP.  Vulnerability CVE-20120-0547 has received a CVSS Base Score of 0.0 because this vulnerability is not directly exploitable in typical user deployments, but Oracle has issued a security-in-depth fix for this issue as it can be used in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to significantly increase the overall impact of a successful exploit. If successfully exploited, these vulnerabilities can provide a malicious attacker the ability to plant discretionary binaries onto the compromised system, e.g. the vulnerabilities can be exploited to install malware, including Trojans, onto the targeted system.  Note that this malware may in some instances be detected by current antivirus signatures upon its installation.  Due to the high severity of these vulnerabilities, Oracle recommends that customers apply this Security Alert as soon as possible.  Furthermore, note that the technical details of these vulnerabilities are widely available on the Internet and Oracle has received external reports that these vulnerabilities are being actively exploited in the wild.    Developers should download the latest release at http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html   Java users should download the latest release of JRE at http://java.com, and of course   Windows users can take advantage of the Java Automatic Update to get the latest release. • Creating a Yes/No MessageBox in a NuGet install/uninstall script

  Sometimes getting a little feedback during the install/uninstall process of a NuGet package could be really useful. Instead of accounting for all possible ways to install your NuGet package for every user, you can simplify the installation by clarifying with the user what they want. This example shows how to generate a windows yes/no message box to get input from the user in the PowerShell install or uninstall script. We’ll use the prompt on the uninstall to confirm if the user wants to delete a custom setting that the initial install placed in their configuration.  Obviously you could use the prompt in any way you want. The objects of the message box are generated similar to the controls in the code behind of a WinForm. • Storing a looong lookup table

  Background The product i am working on has a very long lookup-table. the table contains static data and cannot be auto generated. there are about 500 rows and 10 columns. columns have mostly integers and strings. to complicate the matters, there are actually two such tables. every row in table-1 maps to zero-or-more rows in table-2. we use an SQLite database with two tables. the product installer places the SQLite file in the installation directory. the application is written in dot-net and we use ADO to load the data once on startup. now, the lookup table grows. in each release a month, we add about 10 new entries existing entries are adjusted. every release we fine tune existing entries. The problem a team of (10) developers work on the lookup table. Code goes in the SVN, but the little devil the SQLite does not. this prevents multiple developers to work on it. we do take regular backups of the file, but proper versioning is not possible. we never know who did the breaking change. the worse thing is we dont know if there is any change at all. diff'ing databases is tedious if not impossible. the tables are expected to grow quite large in years to come and we would need developers to work in parallel on it. the data is business critical. we need to be able to audit changes made to it. Question What would be a solution for the problems outlines above? one idea was to transform the whole thing to XML and treat it like just another source file. that way SVN can do the versioning and we can work in parallel. but the data shows relational behavior. with XML we loose the unique and foreign-key constraints. also we cant query it with sql like ease. any help here will be appreciated.

• Cannot boot from K/Ubuntu install disk on my UEFI system

  I just got a new system and have been trying to get it set up w/ Win7 & Kubuntu dual-boot, but I've got a major problem. The BIOS of my motherboard (an Asus Crosshair 990FX) is strictly UEFI -- there is no legacy support mode available. I've been reading up on how to get Kubuntu installed in UEFI mode but no matter what I try I cannot seem to even boot into my install CD/USB key properly. I can get as far as the selection screen ("Try Kubuntu", "Install Kubuntu"...) but this screen starts off not appearing correctly. If I try moving the cursor around it sometimes seems to correct itself and show me my choices. But once I select "Try Kubuntu" it starts loading, the screen goes black and then proceeds to flicker -- about once every 5-10 seconds or so. This continues indefinitely. I've tried this with both Kubuntu & Ubuntu installation media, even the AMD64+Mac Ubuntu variety that is supposed to be a lot more flexible w.r.t. UEFI. The only hint I've had that the system might have booted correctly is a little drum sound that plays when booting from the Ubuntu install disk. Well, that and the fact that when I hit my system's power button it seems to shut down correctly, even ejecting the CD at the end. This might be a video driver issue; my system has two nVidia 550's, one of which is attached to my primary monitor. (The secondary isn't hooked up yet.) I'll keep looking over similar questions but any advice would be greatly appreciated. UPDATE: I've tried booting into my 12.04 install CD twice now, each time using two different options supplied by my BIOS. One seemed to offer the ability to boot into my CD under UEFI mode -- this didn't even produce the initial boot menu. The other method offers the ability to boot into my CD NOT under UEFI mode. This DOES produce the boot menu, but after this point it seems I still cannot get to a proper video mode to see what's going on.

• Can my machine run Ubuntu( kubuntu | xubuntu | mint ) 12.04 WELL?

  I have a 9 year old computer packing the hardware listed below. My question is, can I run 12.04 ( Ubuntu, Kubuntu, MINT or Xubuntu ) WELL? I was running Ubuntu 10.10 and I upgraded to 12.04 by going through each release via the update manager: 11.04 - 11.10 -12.04 During the installation process for 12.04 I saw an error message that there was an error installing and setting up part of the kernel. Later, when I tried installing a package in synaptic, I got another error message mentioning the kernel. When I rebooted, I got told somehting about my video and graphics was not configured properly and that I would have to do it manually ( like I know ). It gave me the option to enter the system in low graphics mode, but it just hanged. I had an old livecd of Xubuntu 10.10 around so I used that to get into my computer and copy data over to an external hard drive. I think tried to install Xubuntu 10.10 from the livecd, with the option "download updates" checked. The install process moved along a bit, then halted for about 5 hours. I rebooted my machine and tried the Xubuntu 10.10 installer WITHOUT the option to "download updates". The install completed in about 15 minutes. So, all of that is making me wonder if there is someting about 12.04 that does not like my hardware. I'm willing to try again, but only if I know I will not have to spend hours just to get to an error message and a hosed up system like I did last night. I also think I have a lot more RAM than is being reported in the output below. I had extra ram installed last year. I'm not good with the command line readouts, but there seems like there should be a lot more. I wasn't thrilled with Unity. I am willing to try Kubuntu 12.04. Will I run into the same problems? What is the highest version of a *ubuntu can I upgrade to? • Munin on Centos 6 - missing perl MODULE_COMPAT_5.8.8

  I'm trying to install Munin on a new VPS through yum install munin but I keep getting an error about a missing perl module: Requires: perl(:MODULE_COMPAT_5.8.8). This is the perl version currently installed: v5.10.1. I've searched all around and still haven't found a solution for this.   I have Centos 6 setup and have installed perl-CPAN. When I run cpan it takes me through the setup and ends by telling me it can't connect to the internet and to enter a mirror. • Cannot create a project TFS 2012 - TF218027

  I've just installed TFS2012 and am trying to create a new project in the default collection via Visual Studio 2012 but I keep getting this error message: TF218027: The following reporting folder could not be created on the server that is running SQL Server Reporting Services: /TfsReports/DefaultCollection. The report server is located at: http://<servername>/Reports. The error is: The permissions granted to user '<domain>/grandmasterflush' are insufficient for performing this operation.. Verify that the path is correct and that you have sufficient permissions to create the folder on that server and then try again. I've checked the permissions and my user is a member of the Project Collection Administrators and the Project Collection Administrators group has the 'Create new project' permission set to allow. The only thing I think it might be is that the user that I created during installation for the Sharepoint access and reports viewing does not have permission to write to the reports folder, however if I select "Do not configure a SharePoint site at this time" then I still get the error messages. I can't find the reports folder to check the permissions either. TFS is using an instance of SQL 2012 that was already on the machine when TFS was installed. Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong please?

  Since we rebuilt our servers to windows servers 2008 x64 r2 we have perpetual problems with scheduled backup (shadow copy). In the Application event log, the following events are logged on both nodes: The description for Event ID 4112 from source TsmVssPlugin cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer. If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event. The following information was included with the event: VSS processing encountered error 'VSS_E_UNEXPECTED_PROVIDER_ERROR' in the Volume Shadow Copy API 'AddToSnapshotSet'. For more information, see the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client error log. Re installing TSM didn't change anything and still logging same events. • IIS6: Web Site presenting the wrong SSL certificate

  Consider an IIS6 installation with multiple Web Sites. Each is intended to be a different subdomain with its own cert (not a wildcard cert). Each has their host-header specified properly. foo.example.com - port 443. Require SSL w/128 bit. Working properly! It presents its SSL cert properly to the browser. Configured for a specific IP address. bar.example.com - port 443. Require SSL w/128 bit. Configured for all unassigned addresses. When inspecting the IIS property page, it fully shows the cert for bar.example.com on the View Certificate button. This is a NEW web site that is having cert problems. It's presenting the cert for foo.example.com. Ouch! Question: can you have more than one subdomains both running on separate websites with SSL certs on the same port (443)? How would you configure 2 web sites on the same range of 'all unassigned' for the same port (443) ? Update: ignoring the cert error, when browsing to https://bar, the content served is from https://foo site. When NOT using SSL, browsing to http://bar serves the correct content from bar. Just one address is assigned to this DMZ server.

• The Message Queuing service failed to join the computer's domain 'DOMAIN' Error 0xc00e0025

  Struggling to get MSMQ installed in Domain Integration mode on Windows 2012 (Azure). So far, I've provisioned a brand new Windows Server 2012 (R2) machine on the Azure platform and installed the Active Directory role and promoted the machine to a domain controller. Once the AD was in place, I then added the MSMQ feature, along with the Directory Integration add on. However, it will not install in AD integration mode. It will only work in Workgroup mode. I can verify this by running the following powershell command: New-MSMQQueue -name Queue1 -queuetype Public When I run this command, I get the following error: New-MsmqQueue : A workgroup installation computer does not support the operation. The event viewer reveals to errors in the Application log: 1. The Message Queuing service failed to join the computer's domain 'DOMAIN'. Error 0xc00e0025: 2. Message Queuing was unable to create the msmq (MSMQ Configuration) object in Active Directory Domain Services. Error c00e0025h: I'm struggling here. Any advice?

• FTP Error: 550 Cant change directory to /: Permission denied

  I installed Pureftpd and Ispconfig3 on my server. Starting from the point I'll probably uninstall ispconfig3 and make things directly on the server, now I am so stubborn I really want to see where's the problem. I created a ftp user through ispconfig, named amdpftp. It is related to a server user named web7. It logs in with username and password, but if i try to ls, it tells me: FTP Error: 550 Cant change directory to /: Permission denied I thought many things, like: 1. It is a problem of permissions. I went to /var/www/clients/client0/web7 , it was immutable and owned by root. Chattr -i and chown web7:client0 changed permissions, but with no effect. I restored to root:root, and made it immutable again. 2. I make some mistakes in the pureftpd installation: Wrong, it works pretty fine. The pureftpd.log doesn't seem to say anything bad. 3. The pureftpd.log file is only the pureftpd one, I should also check the mysqld functionality, as it is in a mysql database that user, password and working directory are stored. I enabled logging in the my.cnf, but also in the ispconfig database operation there wasn't anything wrong. Then I mkdir testftp in /var/www, chown web7:client0, and edited amdpftp user root directory from /var/www/clients/client0/web7 into /var/www/testftp . Guess what? It worked. So, now I know: 1. The PureFtpd works pretty fine 2. The mysql ispconfig database as well 3. The username and password of the virtual user created by ispconfig into pureftpd work 4. The correlation between username and password and the user web7 and the group client0 does work. What kind of magic has been cast upon the ispconfig directories [/var/www/clients/*] that block ftpusers to operate?

  Pardon me, this is my first attempt at Nginx-Jetty instead of Apache-JK-Tomcat. I deployed myapp.war file to $JETTY_HOME/webapps/, and the app is accessible at the url: http://myIP:8080/myapp I did a default installation of Nginx, and the default Nginx page is accessible at myIP Then, I modified the default domain under /etc/nginx/sites-enabled to the following: server { listen 80; server_name mydomain.com; access_log /var/log/nginx/localhost.access.log; location / { #root /var/www/nginx-default; #index index.html index.htm; proxy_pass http://127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/; } error_page 500 502 503 504 /50x.html; location = /50x.html { root /var/www/nginx-default; } } Now I get the index page of mypp (running in jetty) when I hit myIP, which is good. But all the links are malformed. eg. The link to css is mydomain.com/myapp/css/style.css while what it should have been is mydomain.com/css/style.css. It seems to be mapping mydomain.com to 127.0.0.1:8080 instead of 127.0.0.1:8080/myapp/ Any idea what am missing? Do I need to change anything on the Jetty side too?

  Hello, I have installed Debian 5.04 Lenny on my new Intel D510MO motheboard. I fixed some issues with incorrect drive mapping (for some reason during installation my hdd was on sdb, after a restart it is under sda - fixed in grub), and now I am struggling with getting graphical enviroment up and running, I installed the graphical enviroment using the Debian installer. I am not an linux expert by any means, I assume that I need to edit the xorg.conf file. Any hints appreciated! • Can't Access TFS 2010 Beta 2 from Visual Studio 2010 Beta 2 when domain joined

  I'm experimenting with an installation of TFS 2010 Beta 2 on a virtual machine under VirtualBox running Windows Server 2008. When I've got the server in a workgroup, I can connect to it from Visual Studio just fine, as long as I provide credentials for a local user on the server machine when prompted by the "Connect to Team Foundation Server" dialog. The desktop I'm running Visual Studio on is joined to a domain. However, when I join the server to the domain, I can no longer connect to it from Visual Studio. I get a pretty generic error message: "TF31002 - Unable to connect to team foundation server". It gives me several different possible problems, including an incorrect address or an incorrect username and password. I've already added the domain Windows identity with which I'm logged on the the desktop to the TFS Admins group on the server, so I don't think it's a username/password problem. I've also tried putting the literal IP address of the server in the dialog address box instead of the machine name, but still no dice. I made sure that network discovery was enabled on the server, too, and can navigate to "\\webserver2008" in Windows Explorer without any problems. Shouldn't be a firewall problem, since the TFS install creates the appropriate exceptions in Windows Firewall. It's all a bit confusing, since it seems to work when the server is in a workgroup. Note: I'm a dev, not an admin, so there are many subtleties of server administration with which I'm not familiar. Please make no assumptions about what I may or may not have tried; what may be obvious to you may have never occurred to me. Thanks in advance!

  I've got Django 1.0.2 installed on Ubuntu 9.04. I'd like to upgrade Django, because I have an app that needs Django 1.1 or greater. I'd like to remove the existing Django files manually, but I have no idea how to do that, because I'm unfamiliar with how Python packages are laid out in Ubuntu. It looks pretty complicated. The site-packages directory is: $ python -c "from distutils.sysconfig import get_python_lib; print get_python_lib()" /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages However, that's not where the django files live: $ ls -ld /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/[Dd]jango* ls: cannot access /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/[Dd]jango*: No such file or directory There's a /var/lib/python-support/python2.6/django directory, and the __init__.py file in that directory points to /usr/share/python-support/python-django/django/__init__.py. Clearly, pip is able to figure out where the files live. Is there any way to retrieve the list of files associated with the django package so I can just delete them manually?

• Invalid format for New Relic licence when installing on Elastic Beanstalk

  We've created an app that is running on an Elastic Beanstalk instance, 64 bit PHP version 5.4 (so not legacy). I've used the New Relic installation instructions to install New Relic, and viewing phpinfo shows that New Relic is installed. However, I'm not getting any data in New Relic and that is because it is saying that the licence is ***invalid format*** under newrelic.licence I'm getting the licence from my New Relic account, and it is a 40 character hexadecimal string. Here is the current newrelic.config file in the .ebextensions folder I'm using, with most of the licence key commented out. packages: yum: newrelic-php5: [] rpm: newrelic: http://yum.newrelic.com/pub/newrelic/el5/x86_64/newrelic-repo-5-3.noarch.rpm commands: configure_new_relic: command: newrelic-install install env: NR_INSTALL_SILENT: true NR_INSTALL_KEY: ec9a4... Skitch of relevant phpinfo Can anyone shed some light on what's going on here? We're not AWS gurus so it could very easily be something simple like not opening a port to allow the licence to be validated?

• Connectivity with SQL Server Express 2008 r2 and SQL Server 2000 on same machine

  At first glance this may same a duplicate of Installing both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2008 on the same machine, but it is not. I have SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2008 R2 installed on the same machine and working fine. My problem lies with connecting to the 2008 R2 server from a remote machine. My connectivity needs to be TCP. The legacy installation or SQL 2000 uses the default port of 1433. The named instance is by default configured to use 'Shared Memory' and is working fine. When I configured the 2008 R2 server to use 1433 (I did not think that thru) the service refused to start becasue 1433 was already in use by the legacy SQL 2000 default instance. Doh! What I want to do is have both servers available simultaneously via TCP. both servers need not be on the same port, put if I cannot run them on the same port, then how do I configure the clients? Is there not some kind of proxy available that can monitor the 1433 port and pass the request thru to the correct SQL instance by name? Is this capability built into SQL server already? Thanks, Jim

Java is stored into /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_25 and path is set to /usr/bin/ when I type which java.
