  • Import IIS6 website configuration into IIS7

    Hello, I have many websites hosted on IIS6 and I want to migrate them to IIS7. It is enough if the basic configuration (folder, virtual folders inside, hostheaders, ) is migrated. a great part of the configuration is in web.config anyway. It is even okay if they're just created as "classic" mode applications. I have tried the following things: Msdeploy. This copies the whole directoried though, not good... Tried exporting the iis websites to xml... Found nothing to give them to iis7... Anybody got an idea?

  • openvpn: after changing to server mode, client does not create TUN device

    i had a previously working configuration with the config files used in a previous question However, i've changed this now to the following configuration using server mode, everything on the logs seem fine, however the client doesn't create any tun interface, so i don't have anything to connect to, presumably, i need to add or push some route commands, but i don't have any idea at this point what i need to do.   • Migrating Windows XP BOOT.INI Settings to Windows 7 Boot-loader

    Two months ago my motherboard died, so I bought a used computer that came with Windows 7. I have since installed my old hard-drive, which had Windows XP on it, in this system. What I am trying to do now is to figure out a way to migrate the settings from XP's BOOT.INI into 7's boot-loader. Below is the BOOT.INI I used in XP (I have reduced the strings and updated the disks to point to the new location of the old HD. Oh and I am not clear on the drive letters. In XP, I could boot the recovery console or MS-DOS from a file in C:\ that contains the boot-sector. I am not sure what drive letter it would be called now—I had to manually change all the drive letters of the old partitions in Windows 7 because it auto-assigned them all wrong/differently). (Yes, I tried EasyBCD, but that did not help; it had no options for XP, and the best I managed was to get a choice of booting 7 or normal-mode XP—choosing XP didn't even give the old XP boot menu.)   • Ubuntu server has slow performance

    I have a custom built Ubuntu 11.04 server with a 6 disk software RAID 10 primary drive. On it I'm primarily running a PostgreSQL and a few other utilities that stream data from the web. I often find after a few hours of uptime the server starts to lag with all kinds of processes. For example, it may take 10-15 seconds after log-in to get a shell prompt. It might take 5-10 seconds for top to come up. An ls might take a second or two. When I look at top there is almost no CPU usage. There's a fair amount of memory used by the PostgreSQL server but not enough to bleed into swap. I have no idea where to go from here, other than to suspect the RAID10 (I've only ever had software RAID 1's before).   • Migrating Windows XP BOOT.INI Settings to Windows 7 Boot-loader

    Hi, Two months ago my motherboard died, so I bought a used computer that came with Windows 7. I have since installed my old hard-drive, which had Windows XP on it, in this system. What I am trying to do now is to figure out a way to migrate the settings from XP's BOOT.INI into 7's boot-loader. Below is the BOOT.INI I used in XP (I have reduced the strings and updated the disks to point to the new location of the old HD. Oh and I am not clear on the drive letters. In XP, I could boot the recovery console or MS-DOS from a file in C:\ that contains the boot-sector. I am not sure what drive letter it would be called now—I had to manually change all the drive letters of the old partitions in Windows 7 because it auto-assigned them all wrong/differently).     I am doing some development that requires some interaction with an NNTP server, however I don't want to develop against a live server for obvious reasons and am trying to get a local NNTP server setup for testing, but for the life of me I can't find any guides on setting one up in (preferably) Windows 7. Can anyone shed some light? I've found that in IIS 6 you were able to setup an NNTP server, but I unfortunately do not have a 2003 VM at my disposal, I'm stuck with either XP or Windows 7. Thanks

    I've used the directions here to successfully install Glassfish 3.0.1 on an virtualized (VirtualBox and VMWare) Ubuntu 10.10 Server instance without any real difficulty not resolved by more closely following the directions. However when I try applying them to Glassfish 3.1, I seem to keep getting stuck at section 6. "Security configuration before first startup". In particular, there are some differences I noted: 1) There are two keys in the default keystore. The 's1as' key is still there, but another named 'glassfish-instance' is also there. When I saw this, I deleted and recreated them both along with a 'myAlias' key which I was going to use where needed. 2) When turning the security on it seems like part of the server thinks it's on, but others don't.     I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2, including the Desktop Experience feature, and activated the Themes service. I've activated Aero. I have everything there, except that when I drag windows, I only see the border of the window as I'm dragging. In other/older SKUs of Windows, there was a checkbox that I think said "Show Window Contents While Dragging", but I can't find such a checkbox on this OS.

  • My server freezes within a few hours of logging out. Staying logged in keeps the server running

    I have an Ubuntu Godaddy server I use to host mail and webapps. It started having problems a couple months ago. It would lock up and stop responding to anything. I couldn't ssh into it, so I'd have godaddy power cycle the server. I have never seen anything that looked suspicious in the var logs (although I'm no expert at reading them). An fsck turned up no problems. Godaddy replaced the ram, but found no hardware problems. I started logging the output from "top" to a log file and found that even that stops running when the server freezes. Now, here is the crazy part: It got so bad that it would actually go down every few hours, but then it stopped going down. I eventually realized I had left an ssh terminal logged into the machine running top. This seemed unlikely to be a reason, but after the server was up with no problems for a full week (remember, it had been going down after just a few hours), I disconnected from the ssh session. Lo and behold, within a few hours the server froze again! I had them power cycle again and then left another ssh session open with top. It has been going without problems for 8 days now. I told others about this and they hardly believe me. I simply can't imagine what is going on. I don't know what else to try other than to just get a new server and reinstall everything. Does anyone have any ideas about what I can look for to determine what the cause is? Is it possible there's some sort of exploit on the server which only runs if everyone is logged out of the system? EDIT: The power management gone haywire sounds plausible, so I've modified the /boot/grub/menu.lst to boot with acpi=off and apm=off. It appears to have prevented kacpid and kacpid_notify from being in the process list, so I assume I did that right. I've disconnected all my sessions from the server. I'll check later tonight to see if it's still up. If it goes down then I'll try the pinging process idea. EDIT: It went down again. It lasted about a day. I've had them reboot, so now I'll try running "nohup ping -i 5 google.com &" and then disconnect. If it goes down again I'll come back. Hopefully someone will have some more ideas.

  • What's the easiest way to migrate one Mac OSX volume to another

    I want to move a volume from a smaller drive to a larger unformatted one. What is the best way to achieve this? Ideally I'd like the new volume to have the same name as the older volume as it contains user accounts, and is a destination of various symlinks that I have on other volumes. Update: I used Carbon Copy Cloner in the end and it worked perfectly. I was able to simply rename the new volume in Finder to the same name as the old volume and then powered down and removed the old drive on which the volume lived. When I restarted, the new volume seamlessly worked in place of the old volume.

  • How to transfer Windows Vista disk image to new machine

    I'm trying to upgrade a user's machine to some better hardware. I know of Easy Transfer, but I'd rather not have to reinstall all the programs that are already present. (Some of which are no longer available, anyway). Instead, I'm trying to transfer the entire disk image from one machine to the other, but I ran into issues. If I copy the partition image over to the new machine using Clonezilla, I get errors on boot saying that I need to insert the Vista install disk and run repair. I do that, but it then says that it is unable to repair whatever it is that's broken. Next, I tried to sysprep the old machine before creating the image, but sysprep fails saying that it encountered some sort of system error. Should it be possible to sysprep any arbitrary machine, or does it only work on a relatively clean install? Could it be a missing driver that is tripping me up? The new machine is a fairly stock desktop that shouldn't need any special drivers beyond what's already present in standard Vista. Are there any foolproof methods for doing this sort of thing?
