• What do we need for flash 10 development?

  Hi, I'm looking to do some development in flash 10, specifically for the new file api (reading/writing files on the user's local machine). What do I need to develop for flash 10, just Flash cs4?: http://tryit.adobe.com/us/cs4/flash/c/?sdid=ETJMX& or is there some other ide? All I'm really interested in doing is: Make a small swf file which reads a file on the user's machine I will host it in an html file When file read is done, I just want to send its contents as a string to a javascript function for further processing. Not sure if I can get away with the free adobe air thing for this? I need it to run in a webpage but I don't intend to do any more development outside of the above, Thanks

• Is it possible to send an automated email with dynamic content in Rails

  Hi Everyone, I am looking into the best way of doing the following: I have a model called Kase, and when a user creates a new case then are taken to the show view as you would expect. I am trying to work out what the best way of sending an automated email between those two events is. I would need to include in the email the content of a couple of the fields, ideally I am looking for a way of just typing out the email and adding the same snippets that are in the show view for each of the fields I need. I am using the Base App from Github so the email sending is already setup for the user authentication and registration, but I'm not sure where to begin. The reason I want to send the email is to create a new Case in our Highrise account, and I don't have a clue how to use the API. So I think the email sending is the easier way. Thanks, Danny

• Android: various questions about GPS

  I'm writing my first location based android app, but got confused about some of the GPS service api. Here are some questions I have: 1) To get my current location, I called requestLocationUpdates() with a listener in the onCreate() method of one activity. But what happens when another activity starts and the current activity goes invisible? Is the GPS location update going to stop? If so, how do I keep it on after the activity is switched? 2) how accurate is the Location.getSpeed()? How is it computed? Can it tell the difference between on bicycle and on foot? 3) not really a question about android. How to calculate the coordinates of a location, say, 100m away from my current location? 4) To stop the GPS, I only need to remove all the listeners that have been registered to locationmanager? For example: var obj1 = $("<tag></tag>"); var obj2 = obj1.append("something"); Will obj1 and obj2 be the same meaning obj2 will reference obj1? UPDATE: The above example kind of scratches the surface of what i want to know, a more accurate question is : If i chain function from the jQuery api will they return the same object or a new one (as the case with strings in Java)?

• Remove unnecessary svn:mergeinfo properties

  When I merge stuff in my repository Subversion wants to add/change a lot of svn:mergeinfo properties to files that are totally unrelated to the things that I want to merge. Questions about this behaviour have been asked before here on Stackoverflow.com, as you can read here and here. From what I understand from the topics mentioned above it looks like a lot of files in my repository have explicit svn:mergeinfo properties on them, when they shouldn't. The advice is to reduce the amount and only put those properties on relevant files/folders. So now my question: how can I easily remove those unneeded properties? I'm using TortoiseSVN, but am reluctant to manually check/fix hundreds of files. Is there an easier way to remove those unnecessary svn:mergeinfo properties? P.S. I'm not looking for C++ SVN API code.

• Validation errors from Google App Engine Logout link

  I am making a web page using the Google App Engine. I am validating my pages, and found that the logout link that is generated by the call to the users api (in python) users.create_logout_url(request.uri) does not validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. The href in the anchor tag looks like this: /_ah/login?continue=http%3A//localhost%3A8080/&action=Logout Including a link with this anchor text throws three different validation errors: *general entity "action" not defined and no default entity *reference to entity "action" for which no system identifier could be generated *EntityRef: expecting ';' Here is a dummy page with the anchor tag in it, if you want to try it on w3c validator.Dummy Page. The logout link wont work, but you can see how the page is valid without it, but the actual text inside the href tag breaks the validation. Any thoughts on whats going on? Thank you!

Now i just came here to ask you guys is there any resource , tip , help i can know before getting into this deal !? is there any lib or api out to deal with this ?!   Does anybody know a good web framework that includes an ORM mapper and allows straight forward implementation of web services? I'm looking for a framework written in PHP or C++. I'm looking for the following features (not all of them required, some will do nicely) data definition in one place used by database and web service WSDL generation XML output/JSON output boilerplate code generation So what I would like is a framework that let's me specify the objects, the web service functions on those objects and then generate everything that is required leaving me to fill the business logic (connecting the database to the web service). Anything like that out there? Background information for why I need this: I'm looking into creating a web project: the client is a rich web application that fetches all its data using AJAX. It will be completely custom made using only a low level javascript library. The server back end is supposed to serve static content and javascript (basically the rich web application) and to provide a RESTful web service API (which I would like to implement using aforementioned framework).

• Get expiration time of a memcache item in php?

  Hey. I'm caching tweets on my site (with 30 min expiration time). When the cache is empty, the first user to find out will repopulate it. However, at that time the Twitter API may return a 200. In that case I'd like to prolong the previous data for another 30 mins. But the previous data will already be lost. So instead I'd like to look into repopulating the cache, say, 5 minutes before expiration time so that I don't lose any date. So how do I know the expiration time of an item when using php's memcache::get()? Also, is there a better way of doing this?

  I'm loading an html snippet via ajax to append to a div (I use jquery). In other browsers it seems that the code is not executed at all. Is there a solution for this?

• Magento - Programmatically added products don't show up

  I am trying to import products using a custom made import profile. Here I set some values on the product and then save it, like this: $product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product'); $data = array(); // Inbetween I fill $data with some values $product->addData($data); $product->save(); However, the products do show up in the admin, but do not show up on the frontend (I did add them to categories). The odd thing is, they do appear on the frontend once I open them in the admin and save them again (without modifying anything). Am I forgetting something, or some value that is somehow set by that action? I tried to rebuild all indices in the backend and to clear the cache, but this does not work, contrary to Magento API: Rebuild Indexes after adding new products.

Of course, I'm using a basic MVC design and my question concerns the Model layer. For my application, the Model represents data fetched on the Internet with a XML-RPC API. I'm planning to use Core Data to represent a locally fetched version. How should the data be loaded initially? I'm reading the Cocoa Design Pattern book, and they talk about a Model-Controller that is centric to the Model. How would that be done? Thanks!

• ORM on iPhone. More simple than CoreData.

  The question is rather simple. I know that there is SQLite. There is Core Data also. But I need something in between. More object-oriented than SQLite API and simplier than Core Data. Main points are: I need access to stored entities only by id. No queries required. I need to store items of a single type, it means that I can use only one table if I choose SQLite. I want automatic object-relational conversion. Or object-storage if the storage is not relational. I can use object archiving, but I have to implement things (NSArchiver). But I want to write some kind of class and get persistence automatically. As it can be done with Hibernate/ActiveRecord/Core Data/etc. Thanks.

• Misc. Naming: Can I place underscores instead of camel casing in modern languages?

  Hi! I would like to ask some kind of permission (I hope that doesn't sound strange) from the people who have influence on the naming conventions in modern languages like F#, Scala, etc. My problem is - I just can't read camelCased code and wish I could write underscored_names at least in my internal implementations (not in API interface). This applies to just everything - local var names, method names, params.. (Not class names I think) It seems that now the camel-casing is preferred for example for the names of object methods, but could that be not the only way? What would you say; Can I go with underscored names in languages like I mentioned (F#, Scala)?

  According to Oracle's site, the class Color has a constructor that accepts a single int value which represents an RGB value. http://download.oracle.com/javase/1.4.2/docs/api/java/awt/Color.html#Color(int) An RGB color is actually three different numbers ranging from 0-255. So combining them together to make one int would look like this: White 255,255,255 White 255255255 Right? So I pass this to the constructor and get a vibrant teal color. What am I doing wrong? What haven't I understood?

• Trying to make my leaflet map work on internet explorer

  I have been tearing my hair out of late trying to get my web map working on internet explorer. It's working flawlessly on every other major browser but none of the content will load in IE. Anyone out there who's good at browser testing that could help out? I know the leaflet javascript api, which I'm using for this project, supports IE in theory. In practice this isn't working out too well... • What languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used to implement document searching?

  I am at a new company and one of our goals is to implement a document search portal for our team and our clients. I am a bit worried that if we use an external service provider like Salesforce or some other ECM in the cloud there will be a lot of integration work in the future. From a client perspective, these documents will also exist in the same bucket as our structured content (stored in the DB, not a MS Word doc). If you have implemented document searching, what languages, frameworks, and technologies have you used? Do you have any failure stories? I don't have a problem using something out of the box, but I think it is important that we have control over the documents and the API to access them. I would like to use Rails if we go fully custom.

  Hi! all, I am writing an application which is a kinda video streamer.The client is receiving a video stream using udp socket.Now as I am receiving the stream I want to play it simultaneous.It is different from playing local video file lying in your hard disk in which case it can be as simple as running the file using system("vlc filename").But here many issues are involved like there can be delay in receiving and player will have to wait for the incoming data.I have come to know about using vlc to run a video stream.Can you please elaborate the step for playing the stream using vlc.I am implementing my application in c++. EDIT: Can somebody give me some idea regarding VLC API which can be used to stream a given video to particular destination and receive that stream at other end play it. with regards, Mawia

What can I do to sort this problem out?
