Why is search functionality not working on this page?

we deliver micro-site content for our client. Our content is injected into a wrapper that is supplied by another developer. To deliver our content we host the wrapper as well as the content. The user can access this at http://fundcentre.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') For the other content that is not ours, the other developer hosts a similar (though slightly different) wrapper and delivers the content. the user accesses this here: http://www.newireland.ie/ (try a search for 'bloxham') The wrapper contains a search box, which does not work for us but it works for the other developer. I took a look at the network traffic with FireBug but it appears that when I do the search from the wrapper that we're hosting, I'm getting a "407 Proxy Access Denied" error. My guess is their proxy has a problem with the fact that the search is being conducted from a page hosted outside the scope of their proxy. It was also suggested that there were javascript errors on the page that were preventing the search from executing but I can't see any. Also, I don't think I'd get as far as the proxy error if that was the case. I don't really understand this stuff too well though, so could somebody with a bit more experience please take a look and maybe shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

Porting a web application to work in IE7

I'm developing a web application that uses lots of Javascript and CSS, both of my own creation and through third-party libraries. These include jQuery and Google Maps & Visualization JS APIs. I've been testing everything in Firefox 3. Things are peachy until it turns out the main target of this webapp is (cue sad trombone) IE7. I'm looking for caveats, advice, libraries, or other references to help make this transition as easy as possible (not that it's actually going to be easy). I've already tried IE7.js though it hasn't yet shown itself to be the silver bullet I was hoping for. I'm sure that it works as advertised, I think it's just not as all-encompassing as I'd like (example: colors like #4684EE and #DC3912, which are correctly rendered in FF3, are rendered as black in IE7, with or without IE7.js). Are there other libraries out there to help bring IE7 (more) in line with FF3? A corollary question: what debugger would you recommend for IE7? I'm currently using Firebug Lite, but it runs painfully slowly. Is there anything out there with similar features that I might have missed?

Dynamically resizing navigation div to main content

Greetings and Hello I am trying to put together a wordpress site, now because the content in the main div is going to be a different height with every page I need the navigation sidebar to stretch to the same height. So with a little javascript tom-foolery I can get the sidebar to be the same height with the following code function adjust(){ hgt=document.getElementById('content').offsetHeight; document.getElementById('sidebar').style.height=hgt+'px'; } window.onload=adjust; window.onresize=adjust; Now that's all good for a long page but if the content is smaller then the sidebar stuff gets all messy. I get NaN when I try to insert some HTML into a DIV element with jQuery

I am tring to display a text box when a element of class numObj is clicked. For some reason I get NaNNaNaNaNNaNNaNaNaN where I expect to the see the result of the searchForm variable in the code below. I know that NaN stands for Not a Number. What I don't understand is why is Javascript expecting a number? Is it posible to use "confirmit" to open new url in the same window?

I'm using a the confirmit java script function to redirect to a new url with a positive response. It doesn't do exactly what I want - and maybe I can't have exactly what I want. Here's what it does - onunload, with a positive response it opens the new url in a new window, which can be blocked by a pop-up blocker without the user even knowing, giving the impression that nothing happened. When it does open the new URL it opens in a new window making the desktop crowded. Its just not a great solution. What I want it to do - onunload I'd like it to open the new url in the same window and have it not be classified as a "pop-up" to be blocked. I tried switching to onbeforeunload.... nuthin. How do I select dynamic ids in this format?

I'm trying to select dynamic ids when a user types something into the input fields. My app spits out the input fields in the following format: <input id="student_1_first_name" /> <input id="student_1_last_name" /> <input id="student_2_first_name" /> <input id="student_2_last_name" /> <input id="student_3_first_name" /> <input id="student_3_last_name" /> etc. For example, I tried doing this to select the end of the id string: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready( function (){ $("input[id$=_first_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); $("input[id$=_last_name]").bind("keyup", run_some_function_here); run_some_function_here(); } ); </script> When I do that, Jquery can't seem to select the input ids, so the functions don't run. Ajax Request not working. onSuccess and onFailure not triggering

Hi all, trying to make a page which will recursively call a function until a limit has been reached and then to stop. It uses an ajax query to call an external script (which just echo's "done" for now) howver with neither onSuccess or onFailure triggering i'm finding it hard to find the problem. Here is the javascript for it. In the header for the webpage there is a script to an ajax.js document which contains the request data. SVG rotation animation having problems on chrome for jelly bean, is there a workaround?

I've got a strange problem with chrome on jellybean running svg animations triggered from javascript. This JSFiddle example works fine on chrome and firefox on linux, but when I run it on android with chrome I get the final step of the animation painted at the beginning of the animation. I've tried this on both an Nexus 7 and Transformer Prime, they both have the problem. I've tested using firefox on the android devices and the problem doesn't exist. So I'm presuming that it's a defect with chrome. However I've seen other animations using svg that do not have this problem in chrome on jellybean. Is anyone aware of a way to get around this problem, or is there something that I'm doing in my animation/js that is a possible cause of the problem? I've now created a bug report at code.google.com, however I still need a workaround, if anyone can help me (or in case I'm doing something stupid). I've now discovered that this is reproducible on chrome for linux (and I suspect windows). If you click on the button to start the animation before the previous animation has completed then the problem occurs. In this case the hand is drawn at the end of the 45 degree sweep before it starts the sweep. I now suspect that I should be calling something to stop the animation before I change the animation. Anyway, hopefully someone can resolve this problem.

jQuery Validation plugin: disable validation for specified submit buttons when there is submitHandle

Ok, I am using umbraco forum module, and on the comment form it uses jquery validate plugin. The problem is that I have added a search button on the same page using a UserControl, the search submit button triggers the comment form submission validation. I have done some research, and added the 'cancel' css class to the button. This bypass the first validation issue, however, it still fall into the 'submitHandler'. Have read the source code and find a way to detect whether the search button triggers the submission. however, there is not a nice way to bypass the handler. I am currently using a ugly way to do it: create javascript errors! I would like to know a nicer way to do the job. Many thanks! Hi all, I'm using Wysihat in a rails project and am stumped by it's inability to bind to my textarea named post_description (model name Post field name description). How to place a DIV over jw player when certain condition is met?

JW player can either playback video in flash or html5. I use a countdown timer in my app between certain videos. Right now the countdown timer is being displayed in a div beneath the jw player. I need to get that timer displayed in a div that covers the entire jw player interface. I'm stuck and could use some help. Firefox extension js object initialization

Note: this is about Firefox extension, not a js general question. In Firefox extension project I need my javascript object to be initialized just once per Firefox window. Otherwise each time I open my window a new timers will be engaged, new properties will be used, so everything will start from scratch. hope example below will demystify my question :) var StupidExtension { statusBarValue: "Not Initialized Yet", startup: function () { ... // Show statusBarValue in Status Bar Panel }, initTimerToRetrieveStatusBarValueFromNetwork: function () { ... } } so each time you hit Ctrl+N a new window you will see "Not Initialized Yet" and then new timer will be fired, so after some time it retrieve data from network you will see value also on second window and so on. Ideally would be to have just a single timer function running and updating all status bar panels in all Firefox windows. Of course I can do some caching, like saving the value in prefs or some other storage, then show it from there. But I feel like this is artificial. So the question will be is there "native" technique of making static some parts of the object among all Firefox window instances?

how do Google and Yahoo replace the URL in the browser status bar?

On the Google and Yahoo search pages, the URLs of the 10 search result links actually point to google.com or yahoo.com. The URLs have extra arguments that allow google.com or yahoo.com to redirect to the actual search result when the link is clicked. When the user mouses over the link, the search result URL (and not the google.com or yahoo.com URL) is displayed in the browser's status bar. I'm wondering how they do that. Many years ago, this would have been accomplished by having some javascript that sets window.status, but that doesn't seem to work anymore, as is explained by http://stackoverflow.com/questions/876390/reliable-cross-browser-way-of-setting-status-bar-text I have a link that looks like this: <a href="http://somedomain.com/ReallyLongURLThatShouldNotBeSeenInTheStatusBar" onmouseover="window.status='http://niceShourtUrl.com/'" onmouseout="window.status=''">Click Me</a> This link tried to use the window.status strategy, but it doesn't work. How do I fix this link so that it acts like the links on Google's and Yahoo's search result pages? Looking for resources to explain a security risk.

I've a developer which has given users the ability to download a zip archive which contains an html document which references a relative javascript file and flash document. The flash document accepts as one of it's parameters a url which is embedded in the html document. I believe that this archive is meant to be used as a means to transfer an advertisement to someone who would use the source to display the ad on their site, however the end user appears to want to view it locally. When one opens the html document the flash document is presented and when the user clicks on the flash document it redirects to this embedded url. However, if one extracts the archive on the desktop and opens the html document in a browser and clicks the flash object, nothing observable happens, they will not be redirected to the external url. I believe this is a security risk because one is transferring from the local computer zone to an external zone. I'm trying to determine the best way to explain this security risk in the simplest of terms to a very end user. They simply believe it's "broken" when it's not broken, they're being protected from a known vulnerability. The developer attempted to explain how to copy the files to a local iis instance, which I highly doubt is running on the users machine, and I do not consider this to be a viable explanation.

force refresh of part of page in browser

I don't get this behavior in Opera for example, and even in IE the behavior only happens on the last li element, so I'm pretty sure it's an IE quirk and not my code. Is there any workaround I can do through jquery/javascript to force it to repaint the h3 element?

Creating sublines on Joomla menu items

In my toplevel menu items, I would like to make a subline for each item. I don't think it's possible to do by default, byt YooTheme has done it in many of their templates. The menu output look like this <div class="moduletable_menu"> <ul id="mainmenu" class="menu"> <li class="active item1" id="current"> <a href="URL_HIDDEN"> <span>Services</span> </a> </li> </ul> This basically outputs a one line menu item like so: Services What I would like to do is have a menu item like this: Services Service x, Service y, Service z For reference, have a look at the main menu on the YooTheme demo page. The way YooTheme does this, is using two pipes (||) as a linebreak, so in the Joomla backend you type "Services||Service x, Service y, Service z" as the menu title, and then there must be some fancy javascript that breaks this title into two spans, ready to be styled using css. Does anyone know of an easy way to code this? Please note that I am looking to build this feature into a custom template (ie. non-yootheme). Also note that I am not using MooTools, but Jquery instead.

I currently have a tabbed system in place, however it not doing exactly as I need it too, I was hoping that by navigating to the URL with #tab2 suffixed on then end it would navigate to my tabbed page and the tab that is present in the URL would be the one that is active, however the first tab in the sequence is always active, is there a way to check what is being passed in the URL first and if there is #tabid present then make that tab the current tab? My javascript currently looks like this, $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all content $("ul.tabNavigation li.shortlist").addClass("active").show(); //Activate first tab (in this case second because of floats) $(".tab_content#shortlist").show(); //Show first tab content //On Click Event $("ul.tabNavigation li").click(function() { $("ul.tabNavigation li").removeClass("active"); //Remove any "active" class $(this).addClass("active"); //Add "active" class to selected tab $(".tab_content").hide(); //Hide all tab content var activeTab = $(this).find("a").attr("href"); //Find the href attribute value to identify the active tab + content $(activeTab).fadeIn(); //Fade in the active ID content return false; });

How to use Enquire.Js?

Enquire.js is a Javascipt that re-creates CSS media queries for Javascripts. This means you can wrap your Javascripts in Media Queries. (Just like you would wrap CSS in Media Queries). I'm not quite sure how to use it. This tutorial says this: enquire.register("max-width: 960px", function() { // put your code here }); However, when I follow that, my code stops working. Here is an example of some Jquery Tabs without Enquire.JS. It works fine. Here are the same tabs, but with Enquire.JS added. Now it stops working. I've experimented with different variations of the code, but none of them work. What am I doing wrong? I think you might have place the Jquery Tab code in a separate file and then link to that file from within Enquire.Js, but I'm not sure how you would do that. (Although it would be handy to know as I'd imagine it would let you keep your scripts be more reusable). PS. This is not a criticism of Enquire.Js. I know that the problem lies squarely with my lack of proficiency in Javascript! I did spend a couple of hours searching for a solution, but couldn't find anything. Thanks for any help!
