    Here I’m in the Mecca of Management, India’s premier institute of management, to learn great things about management with the management Gurus!! As they say a picture is worth thousand words, so I’ll say it by thousand Pictures ;) EPBM, yep that’s an acronym for Executive Programme in Business Management. It’s a year long program having 14 different management subject, designed to suit working professionals. The collage above depicts my full day i.e., 25th April 2010, which started by taking pictures of beautiful moon night @ 3 AM, followed by air travel from 11 AM - 5 PM , meeting with friends/batch mates at Kolkata airport, one and half hour ride to Joka Campus by Yellow Taxi, “New Building” hostel…etc. Things that I didn’t captured on camera : Sweat after reaching campus, IPL Final watching in Common Room, Lot of GAGS and things that you can only experience by being here ….!~ Stay tuned for more…. ram :)

  • VSDB to SSDT Part 1 : Converting projects and trimming excess files

    Visual Studio 2012 introduces a change regarding Database Projects : they now use the SSDT technology, which means old VS2010 database projects (VSDB projects) need to be converted. Hopefully, VS2012 does that for you and it is quite painless, but in my case some unnecessary artifacts from the old project were left in place.  Also, when reopening the solution, database projects appeared unconverted even if I had converted them in the previous session and saved the solution.   Converting the project(s) When opening your Visual Studio 2010 solution with Visual Studio 2012, every standard project should be converted by default, but Visual Studio will ask you about your database projects : “Functional changes required Visual Studio will automatically make functional changes to the following projects in order to open them. The project behavior will change as a result. You will be able to open these projects in this version and Visual Studio 2010 SP1.” If you accept, your project is converted. And it should compile with no errors right away except if you have dependencies to dbschema files which are no longer supported.   The output of a SSDT project is a dacpac file which replaces the dbschema file you were accustomed to. References to dacpac files can be added to SSDT projects in the same fashion references to dbschema could be added to VSDB projects.   Cleaning up You will notice that your project file is now a sqlproj file but the old dbproj is still here. In fact at that point you can still reopen the solution in Visual Studio 2010 and everything should show up.   If like me you plan on using VS2012 exclusively, you can get rid of the following files which are still on your disk and in your source control : the dbproj and dbproj.vspscc files Properties/Database.sqlcmdvars Properties/Database.sqldeployment Properties/Database.sqlpermissions Properties/Database.sqlsettings   You might wonder where the information which used to be in the Properties files is now stored. Permissions : a Permissions.sql was created at the root level of your project. Note that when you create a new database project and import a database using the Schema Compare capabilities from Visual Studio, imported table and stored procedure definition files will hold the permission information (along with constraints and, indexes) SQLVars : they are defined inside the publish.xml files Deployment : they are also in the publish.xml files Settings : I was unable to find where those are now. I suppose they are not defined anymore   But Visual Studio still says my database projects should be converted !   • Keeping monitor Dell desk monitor 'connected' to dell studio 15 laptop?

    First of all, I am new to Ubuntu 10.04 but it is love at first sight and the only windows I will see again are in my house and car! Each time I disconnect my Dell Studio 15 from my Dell 36" monitor, I have to reconnect through the System/Monitor protocol. Question: Is there a way to set it up so once I slide my laptop under the stand, reconnect monitor cable, 3 usb's and press start that the Monitor screen will go 'live' without having to start all over?

    Is there a well-established way to share Ant targets between projects? I have a solution currently, but it's a bit inelegant. Here's what I'm doing so far. I've got a file called ivy-tasks.xml hosted on a server on our network. This file contains, among other targets, boilerplate tasks for managing project dependencies with Ivy. Have my build.xml depend on checking out a project from source control - this will make the build have more XML at the top-level just to access the file. What I do with this file in my projects' build.xmls is along the lines of: <property name="download.dir" location="download"/> <mkdir dir="${download.dir}"/> <echo message="Downloading import files to ${download.dir}"/> <get src="http://myserver/ivy/ivy-tasks.xml" dest="${download.dir}/ivy-tasks.xml" usetimestamp="true"/> <import file="${download.dir}/ivy-tasks.xml"/> The "dirty" part about this is that I have to do the above steps outside of a target, because the import task must be at the top-level. Plus, I still have to include this XML in all of the build.xml files that need it (i.e. there's still some amount of duplication). On top of that, there might be additional situations where I might have common (non-Ivy) tasks that I'd like imported. If I were to provide these tasks using Ivy's dependency management I'd still have problems, since by the time I'd have resolved the dependencies I would have to be inside of a target in my build.xml, and unable to import (due to the constraint mentioned above). Is there a better solution for what I'm trying to accomplish?

    I have been trying to minimize my memory footprint with UIImagePickerController, but I'm starting to think that the memory problems I am having are resulting from poor memory management, instead of a particular way to handle the UIImagePickerController object. My workflow is this: The "Edit Image" button is clicked, which presents a UIActionSheet. This action sheet allows you to delete, take a picture, choose from the library, or cancel. It leads me to believe that I am not getting that full image out of memory the correct way. What am I missing here? And on a second note, does the Camera source use significantly more memory than the Photo Albums source? I tend to get more crashes when using the camera.
