• iOS Guidelines for Free vs. Paid apps

  A few months back, I was doing some recreational reading at the iOS Dev Center, and I came across a small list of guidelines for free vs. paid apps. It included guidance along these lines: How not to promote a paid version within a free version Not displaying "placeholder" buttons in a free version that "work" in a paid version I can't remember much more than that, and I cannot find it anymore on the iOS Dev Center. It's possible I imagined it entirely, but I doubt it - does anyone have a link to this information, or have a set of guidelines for free vs. paid apps in the App Store?

• Ubuntu 12.10 stopped during booting

  Good morning, I'm very new to Ubuntu. I decided to change to Ububtu (12.10) for my old laptop (Compaq Presario R3000 with AMD Athlon XP 2800+) that previously used Windows XP. After the installation, the PC restarted but, after a certain activity of the HDD stopped. Menwhile, no information from the screen (blank). Then I retried in recovery mode and the activity stopped at a certain point. I write the last two lines: [ 11.020922] pcmcia_socket pcmcia_socket0: cs: IO port probe 0x3000-0x7fff: [ 11.021676] excluding 0x3000-0x30ff 0x3400-0x34ff 0x3800-0x38ff 0x3c00-0x3cff I don't know how to solve the problem. • Blank screen after installing nvidia restricted driver

  I have a new machine with a MSI N560GTX Ti Twin Frozr II/OC graphic card and MSI PH67A-C43 (B3) main board. If i install the current nvidia restricted driver and reboot the machine on Natty (64-bit), then i only get a black screen after reboot and my system does not respond. I can´t see the login screen. On nvidia web page i saw that the current driver is 270.41.06. Is that driver used as current driver? Btw, i am an ubuntu/linux beginner and therefore not very familiar with ubuntu. What can i do to solve the black screen problem? EDIT: Setting the nomodeset parameter does not solve the problem. After ubuntu start, first i see the ubuntu logo, then strange pixels and at the end the black screen. HELP! EDIT2: Thank you, but setting the "video=vesa:off gfxpayload=text" parameters do no solve the problem too. Same result as in last edit. HELP. I would like to see Unity. Why? The company administrator needs access to the Training and Support Center because it gives them pod-specific application alerts on the Support tab and pod-specific release information on the Release Info tab. If a customer no longer has access to the Training and Support Center URL because they have already rebranded that link, they can contact Customer Care to request it again.

• Ops Center 12.1.4 Released

The biggest one is support for multiple Automated Installer install services, which means that you can provision any version of Oracle Solaris 11, rather than just one. We've also added support for multi-file VM templates, and enhanced the network configuration support for vServers. You can take a look at the What's New document for more information about the new features. If you're already using Ops Center, you can download the 12.1.4 upgrade through the UI, or get it from the Oracle Tech Network or from e-delivery.   Hi There, Does anybody know what is the best way to secure bash scripts. I have a script which creates database and source code backup and ftp it to other server. And login/password for destination ftp are plain text. I need somehow encrypt it or hide it in case of website hacking. I would like to clarify my question in the following items. We are storing the data in Rackspace Cloud files. We can't pull as Cloud files doesn't allow you run a script.   Trying to run any of the well-known McKesson's tutorials on a friend's laptop results in the aforementioned exception. I read that in order to run applications which use OpenGL 3.3 you must at least have an ATI HD or Nvidia 8xxx GPU series. He has an ATI HD class graphics processor which eliminates (maybe) this issue. Also, I read that this error may result in having old drivers. He updated his drivers but that didn't solve the problem. The tutorials are built as said in the book introduction and glsdk is installed. If more information is needed, say so and I will provide it. What are the other reasons for this kind of exception? And how can I fix them?

You can tell that by the constant use of deprecated html tags such as <table and the lack of any compression at all, which makes some documents go way over 700,000 bytes even though they're pure text. Side problem: some companies are actually editing and selling this content that should be public and free. What I need to know is the best approach to offer said official content in my own site for free. I've thought of setting up a mirror to copy the official pages from time to time, since some of them are updated frequently, which would automatically be compressed as all my pages are via htaccess.

• SQL Server 2008 Web VS SQL Server 2008 Enterprise

  I wrote an application a few months ago, and was hosting it out of our offices on a workstation with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33GHz, 8 GB RAM, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise and SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. Both the webserver and database server were run on the same machine. We had a huge influx in traffic, and moved ClubUptime.com, and got 2 of their top teir windows VMs. The Database server runs Windows 2008 R2 Standard and SQL Server 2008 R2 Web on 8 GB ram and an Intel Xeon e5620 @ 2.40GHz. Ever since switching, the database which used to run at around 400MB in RAM now runs at around 4-7GB, and there haven't been any changes to it (other than a couple columns here and there). Our traffic has quadrupled, and our DB is 6 GB on disk, why would SQL server take up 7 GB if the DB is only 6. And why would it be storing the ENTIRE database in memory? Another thing is why growing 4 times in size did the database's memory footprint grow 12 times? Last question: Why does the CPU peg at 100% now where it didn't before? The design is simple, VERY few joins, NO subqueries. I am just at a loss, unless it is the SQL server edition, or the fact that I moved from real hardware to a VM.

• git, maven and jenkins - versioning, dev and release builds workflow

  What is the preferred way to do the following with git, maven and jenkins: I am developping an application, which I would like to maintain "dev" and "release" branches. I would like jenkins to build both. It could be so that the release-artifacts would have versions like 1.5.2 and the dev-builds would just be 0.0.1-SNAPSHOTs. I would like to not have to have 2 different pom.xml files. I looked into profiles, but they don't seem to be able to change artifact versions. One way I looked at could be adding a 'qualifier' to the test-builds. Of course I could just rename the file, because the real artifact-information on this is not important, because the app is a standalone one. What would be the preferred way to doing this? Or how would you do this?

Outdated information in separate documents happens all the time, but in my experience outdated comments in the code itself are exceedingly rare. Have I just been lucky in who I work with? Are certain industries more prone to this problem than others? Do you have specific examples of recent outdated comments you've seen?   I am a user of a free Google Analytics account and i'm slightly concerned that I may be approaching the 10,000,000 hit (Pageviews, Events etc) per month. Google state in their documentation: These limits apply to the Web Property / Property / Tracking ID. 10 million hits per month per property If you go over this limit, the Google Analytics team might contact you and ask you upgrade to Premium or implement client sampling to reduce the amount of data being sent to Google Analytics. However, I note that there is nothing to say that you can review or check up on your current usage for the month. I have administrator access to the Google Analytics account, but I see no feature that lets me check up on my monthly usage. I don't know if Google offer this, either by means of the admin interface or via their support channels - but it would certainly be a useful feature. Is there anyway for a free GA user to obtain this information?

  I have two instances where I'd like to display information in a "justified" alignment - but I don't care if the values are switched in order. One example being displaying the usernames of people online: Anton Brother68 Commissar Dougheater Elflord Foobar Goop Hoo Iee Joo Rearranging them we could get exactly 22 characters long on each line: Anton Brother68 Foobar Commissar Elflord Goop Dougheater Hoo Iee Joo This is kind of a knapsack, except seems like there ought to be a P solution since I don't care about perfection, and I have multiple lines. Second instance is identical, except instead of names and character count I would be displaying random images and use their width.
