• Parallel Threading in Multi-Language Software?

  I'm developing a software that contain many modules/Daemon running in parallel manner, what i'm looking for is how to implement that, i cannot use Thread because some of those modules/Daemon are perhaps implemented in other languages (C,java,C#...). For example I'm using C for Hooking Messages exchanged between Windows kernel and top level applications, Java/C# to use some free library to simply parse XML(for example) or to accept and execute commands over the network..this can be done by C Language but just to improve productivity... Finally for GUI I'm using Ultimate++ (c++) that is like the main process that call and monitor(activate/deactivate/get state) of all other modules/Daemon through an interface. I admit that the development of each module/Daemon in a separate language greatly facilitates maintenance, but especially I am obliged to do that.. What is the best practice way to do that ? All helps will be appreciated.

I applied a creative approach to the matter and implemented a system which I think has a potential and looking promising (maybe not on the market but at least among some interested supporters). I have even more ideas related to this system and continue developing at my free and work time. It has become a work and hobby at the same time. Unfortunately, this work basically has nothing in common with the company's business and there is no way this will be organized in a form of standard development process and be presented to costumers as a product. What can you suggest in this situation? How to avoid breaching of contract? Have you had something similar in your career? What if my intention is to develop it as an open source project?

  Small team of developers doing their work here and there. We have a team leader, and is sole responsible for uploading updated source files from the development server to the production server. So let's say, so if an updated files needs to be uploaded to the prod server, that concerned developer shall notify the team lead about it, and then the team lead will update the files to the prod server. So no developer has an access to the prod server except for the team lead. That's our current setup. Now, what we want to do is to give developers a way for uploading their updated files to the server without the team lead intervening in the process. • How to install texlive2011?

  I just moved from Windows to Ubuntu. Software Center in Ubuntu does have texlive2009 package. There is no straightforward installation process from TUG, or from Google search result. I found some installation of Texlive2010 but it does not work. Here are the step: download an texlive2011.iso, 2.3GB and save in local drive mount to a virtual drive install perl tk (ok) "sudo ./install-tl" does not work, "perl ./install-tl" shows pre-installation setting but it does not have the write access to /usr/local/textlive/2011/ Finally, I'm stuck Please guide me with a step by step tutorial or suggest any other solution beside typing in the black screen without knowing what is going on behind the Terminal.

  You are just starting a new project and you have these two technologies to choose from, Java and .NET. The project you are working doesn't involve having features that would make it easy to choose between the two technologies (e.g. .NET has this that I need and Java does not) and both of them should work just fine for you (though you only need one of course). Take into account: Performance Tools available (even 3rd party tools) Cross platform compatibility Libraries (especially 3rd party libraries) Cost (Oracle seems to try and monetize Java) Development process (Easiest/Fastest) Also keep in mind that Linux is not your main platform but you would like to port your project to Linux/MacOs as well. You should definitely keep in mind the trouble that has been revolving around Oracle and the Java community and the limitations of Mono and Java as well. It would be much appreciated if people with experience in both can give an overview and their own subjective view about which they would choose and why.

I currently have ubuntu as main OS but I don't want to continue with it further.I don't have CD for win 7 so I am trying other sources. I have downloaded EasyBCD on another system and pasted it on ubuntu. It is .exe file and is not running on ubuntu. • Stuck in screen saver during upgrade

  I'm upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04. The screen saver is now on and I can't exit it. If I type my password or move the mouse the screen flickers. Regardless of what I do the screen saver stays and the login prompt never shows. If I type my password and then enter it, it does nothing. Last time I checked the packages were all downloaded and I was in the install process. I really want this upgrade to work. It would be really bad to have to restart from a fresh install. Cheers.

  Someone posted a script a couple days ago, here is my output.Pastebin I can see wifi SSIDs in network, but cannot connect to mine. The only time wifi worked on 13.10 was in the Live CD, but wifi stopped working as soon as install process started. Did below but made no difference. sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source sudo modprobe -rv brcmsmac sudo modprobe -v wl What I do next? I tried Software&Updates and it showed 1 proprietary driver in use. This sounds like a WPA/WPA2 issue? Wifi works when I tried Zorin OS 7.1, wifi always worked in windows 7.

• Multithreaded game fails on SwapBuffers in render thread at exit

  The render loop and windows message loop run on separate threads. The way the program exits is that after PostQuitMessage is called in WM_DESTROY the message loop thread signals the render loop thread to exit. As far as I can tell before the render loop thread can even process the signal it tries SwapBuffers and that fails. My question, is there something about how Windows processes WM_DESTROY and WM_QUIT, in maybe DefWindowProc that causes various objects associated with rendering to go away even though I haven't explicitly deleted anything? And that would explain why the rendering thread is making bad calls at exit?

  Update: We are a very small team (3 people) and thus I (Scrum Master) and the Product Owner are also developers doing some coding. We are aware of this situation and we are actively trying to recruit some new talents. But it's hard! Meanwhile... we need to adapt... so my question: The Product Owner complains about having too much outside noise (mainly stakeholders feature requests), and he can't focus on the sprint realisation. We agree that we should try to educate people on our process implications (sprint durations and product backlog), to reduce the noise. But as a Scrum Master, how am I supposed to shield a PO from outside? Isn't he supposed to be in contact with the management and business? Also, if people outside don't want to waste too much time learning agile, what is the best way to educate them?

  First When i downloaded java from official website i got confused how to install it. den i searched it on software center and i got it. but wen i install it, it starts but instantly stops and the line highlighting the installation status in progress tab doesn't move forward.den i searched on internet and tried installing it by terminal but he terminal says that u have to first configure something that i dont know but it tells me to run this command-"sudo dpkg-configure -a" and when i run this command the terminal process stops in the middle and even after leaving it for about an hour it doesn't proceed further.. after that when i press the close button of the terminal if shows that some tasks are in progress and closing the terminal would...bla bla bla... so i am greatly confused because even other software's like gimp image editor and all are not getting installed.. please help me..!!

  In the project/team I'm working the frequency of comments is a little low. One reason might be that it is not clear to the long-time devs what lines in the code really needs a comment (each part of the project has quite fixed devs). To increase this we plan to let team members review the code and check in "requests for comments", which the main dev of that part should replace with useful comments. Do you think this could work? If "yes": what tags should we use to mark? (e.g. //TODO please comment) Can you think of alternatives for this process? Edit: I appreciate your answers about best practice in commenting and writing code, and I completey agree. But my question targets the cases where refactoring is not an option (not wanting to change working code, not wanting to "accuse" main dev of producing code that needs refactoring,...) - so only more or better comments are an option (at least for this question).

• 12.4 LTS after update fails to login

  An update today (30-11-2012) on 12.4 lead to failure to log in. The system gets through its boot process then presents the logins, on choosing any of these immediately returned to log-in screen with no error. Machine is an AMD FX 64 on an Asus MB using the built-in graphics. If no one knows what this might be, what's the alternative distro to Ubuntu? It's the second time something like this has happened after an update in three months, kudos to the Ubuntu team but I need more reliability. Cheers, thanks to all.

• How do you assign commands to keys to in Terminal?

  Is there a solution to assign special key combinations to words in terminal use. For example the less command is very usefull and i use i a lot to pipe the output of another process through it. The idea would be to set up special key combinations that are only active in terminal use assigned to write different commands? So pressing CTRL + l in terminal window could write | less or CTRL + G could stand for | grep Note: i just mean adding the letters to commandline not execute the finally. A similar way what's tabcompletion but more specific.

• Dual display setup - only one displayed after logon

  During boot process my desktop shows both Monitors, but after log I only get one. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 When I go into Displays its still only shows on Monitor.   I have Ubuntu 12.04 with a kernal of 3.0.0-17-generic (#30-Ubuntu SMP Thu Mar 8 17:34:21 UT When I tried to copy files to a San Disk Cruzer 8gb usb drive, the copy process went a short way and then completely stopped. Although I have copied items to the USB drive from my PC before, this time the files would start quickly enough but always stop shortly after starting. I figure the 8 gb was bad, so I went and got a brand new 32 gb usb drive from a store, unpackaged it and plugged it in, still unable to copy to the usb drive. So is there some kind of incompatibility or issue where San Disk Cruzer Glides are no longer supporting it. Is there an obscure setting that I am missing? Any help would be appreciated

• Keeping application backend and UI synchronised

  Hi all. I have an app that works with a list of objects so has one central keyed list. The main window has a tree containing these object with some information, which is easy enough to populate as a one off event after loading. Now, the complicated part, any part of the application can add, remove, and more importantly change the details of those objects at any time (all in the same process) and I'd like the tree to update to suit. I have a few options including passing events back down from the object to the list to the form which seems to be the most flexible way. I can also do it lazily and repopulate the tree each time or periodically (very hackish). Does anyone have any better thoughts on how to structure this? This is being done in C# 2.0 but the concepts apply to any environment. Thanks

  I've tried to install ubuntu 12.04 LTS parallel with Windows 8, on my laptop Clevo m767yu But when I try to boot from USB it just stops when it's trying to read the files. it stops and shows this picture: https://www.dropbox.com/s/np3ptvvmasv7ax2/IMAG0097.jpg If I try to boot from a cd, it stops and shows a cursor blinking.   I've bought VMware Workstation 8 just today. After the installation I launched it and the application noticed me that "several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel". During the process, VMware noticed me that was impossible to configure Virtual Network Devices and at the end, was impossible to start the services.
