  • C++ stack in Objective-C++

    I'd like to use a C++ stack type in Objective-C, but I'm running into some issues. Here's a sample of what I would like to do: #import <stack> #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface A : NSObject { stack<SEL> selectorStack; } @end Unfortunately, this doesn't compile. After messing around with the code for a while and trying different things, I can't seem to find a way to accomplish this. Can somebody tell me the best way to use a C++ stack within an Objective-C object or if it's even possible? Thanks. UPDATE: Well, KennyTM's answer worked on my example file, but for some reason when I tried to rename the class it quit working. Why did the author arbitrarily choose the second last value as the return address of foo()? -.     I have used the following code for a stack implementation. The top keeps track of the topmost node of the stack. Now since top is a data member of the node function, each node created will have a top member, which ideally we wouldn't want. Firstly, is this good approach to coding? Secondly, will making top as static make it a better coding practice?   • Is there Any Limit on stack memory!

    I was going through one of the threads. A program crashed because It had declared an array of 10^6 locally inside a function. Reason being given was memory allocation failure on stack leads to crash. when same array was declared globally, it worked well.(memory on heap saved it). Now for the moment ,Let us suppose, stack grows downward and heap upwards. We have: ---STACK--- ---HEAP---- Now , I believe that if there is failure in allocation on stack, it must fail on heap too. So my question is :Is there any limit on stack size? (crossing the limit caused the program to crash). Or Am I missing something?

    I'm interested in android activity lifecycle and I would like to get more detailed description/documentation/reference than widely available basic (onCreate-onStart-onResume) one. My need comes from realizing that starting new activity (Theme.Dialog styled) from onAttachedToWindow() greatly improves response time if comparing to starting it from onCreate(). I wonder how this onAttachedToWindow() fits into whole android activity lifecycle. Official API ref description "Called when the window has been attached to the window manager" doesn't help a lot.

(but onclicklistener is working) but when i occur surfacecreated/destoryed by visible/invisible surfaceview in single activity, it works very good. plz give me any help.

    Is there a way to absolutely position an UI element on Android so that it is located outside an Activity? For example: can you create a fullscreen ImageView simply by moving/resizing an ImageView inside an existing regular Activity instead of creating a new fullscreen activity? EDIT: Re-reading my question I see I wasn't very clear about what I'm trying to accomplish. I'd like to temporarily extend an element to cover the notification bar at the top of the screen. I need to create a semitranslucent fullscreen overlay but since translucent activities cannot cover the notification bar I'm trying to find out if it's possible for an element to break out of activity's bounds and resize itself to fill the whole screen, top to bottom.

Nevertheless I also tried to add the following flags to notificationIntent Intent.FLAG_ACTIVITY_CLEAR_TOP | PendingIntent.FLAG_UPDATE_CURRENT but the problem remains the same.

  • How Many States Does an Activity Have?

    The Activity lifecycle section in the Application Fundamentals tutorial states that there are 3 states: An activity has essentially three states: (1. active/running 2. paused 3. stopped) But then as I continued reading the actual Activity class documentation, the Activity Lifecycle section states that there are 4 state: An activity has essentially four states: (1. active/running 2. paused 3. stopped 4. "dropped"?) Both sources (on the same website) agree about the first 3, but the 4th one is only mentioned in the class documentation and is unnamed. So, are there really 4 states or only 3? If there are 4, what is the name of the 4th one? Please help me understand this discrepancy. Also, highlighted colored blocks in this beautiful and very informative flowchart don't seem to correspond to the states. Where, in the flowchart, would you mark the 3 or 4 states?

  • Allowing AsyncTask to Manipulate Values in Different Activity Classes

    Hi guys, This title may seem strange, so let me try to explain what I'm trying to do. I have several activity classes, each representing a different view in my application. My initial activity class gets loaded when the application launches. The user enters values and eventually a TCP socket is opened, and I then use AsyncTask to listen for and respond to messages from the server. I'd like for this AsyncTask class to essentially listen until the app is closed/error condition reached, and be able to update values in other activity classes after they are started. Does this make sense (it's been a long, frustrating night)? I know that static activity class references are bad practice, and touching the UI thread from other activities is bad as well, but I'm having trouble finding a clean solution to this problem. Maybe using AsyncTask is not the best approach here? Should I be using a service instead or something else entirely? Thanks in advance.

However, this activity doesn't reside in an application I own, so I don't know the action and category and data flags on the intent-filter. How can I examine an Android applications metadata like the activity classes and the intent-filters for those activities (if declared in the manifest)? Thanks!

  • Problems with starting an activity in onStart

    Hello everyone. I'm trying to start a floating activity from onStart to retrieve some info from the user right when the initial activity begins. I have the following: @Override public void onStart(){ super.onStart(); callProfileDialog(); } And callProfileDialog() is just: private void callProfileDialog(){ Intent i = new Intent(this, com.utility.ProfileDialog.class); startActivityForResult(i, PROFDIALOG); } ProfileDialog.class returns a String from an input box. If the result returned is RESULT_CANCELED then I restart the activity. The problem I'm having is that when the program starts, the screen is just black. If I hit the Back button a RESULT_CANCELED is returned then the initial activity shows as well as the floating activity (since it recalled itself when it got a RESULT_CANCELED). Why can't I get the activities show by calling ProfileDialog.class from onStart()? I got the same result when I called it at the end of onCreate() which is way I switch over to use onStart().   • Prevent Activity from saving state when user selects back button

    I have an Activity with a list that is bound to a ListAdapter reading data into a ArrayList from a database. All is well when the data is first loaded. While the Activity is open and the list is being displayed it is possible and likely that the data in the database will be updated by a service but the list does not reflect the changes because the ArrayList does not know about the changes. If the Activity is no longer in the foreground as would be the case if the user goes to the home screen and then is brought back to the foreground I would like for the Activity to not display what it did prior but rather reload the data using the ListAdapter the view is bound to. I think something needs to call finish() but I am not sure what.     Hi, Currently within an activity in my application I can call another activity and pass a variable to it in the following manner: Intent myIntent = new Intent(parentView.getContext(), ShowStations.class); myIntent.putExtra("stationName", stations[position].StationName); startActivity(myIntent); This works fine, but now I want to be able to do the same from my Widget. Currently this code works fine for launching a specific activity from my widget: Intent WidgetIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MAIN).addCategory(Intent.CATEGORY_LAUNCHER).setComponent(new ComponentName("grell.com", "grell.com.FavStations")); PendingIntent pendingIntent = PendingIntent.getActivity(context, 0, WidgetIntent, 0); updateViews.setOnClickPendingIntent(R.id.widget_main, pendingIntent); So now I am wondering how can I launch the same activity as shown in the first example but also pass through the 'stationName' variable.   • ListView Item Detail Screen: New or Same Activity?

    I have a listview where each item correlates to an instance of an item in an array. When the user selects an item, it will bring up a 'Details' page that reads and displays other data members of the list item. Would this be better implemented with the Details page as its own activity, or a new view within the same activity? Pros and cons of each? A new activity makes my job a little easier in terms of handling the 'back' button, but then I have the challenge of how do I pass the rest of the data structure to the new activity since I can't bundle it up (unless I serialize it).
