    - by ShadowCrowe
    I searched for an answer but couldn't find it. The problem: Depending on the selected spinner-item the application should show a different image. At this moment I can't get it to work. The Url works like this: "my.site.com/images/" imc_met ".png" were imc_met is the filename. I can't get it to work. Btw the app isn't finished yet package example.myapplication; import java.io.IOException; import java.net.MalformedURLException; import java.net.URI; import java.net.URISyntaxException; import java.net.URL; import java.util.ArrayList; import java.util.List; import android.app.Activity; import android.graphics.Bitmap; import android.graphics.BitmapFactory; import android.os.Bundle; import android.view.Menu; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; import android.widget.AdapterView; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.ImageView; import android.widget.Spinner; public class itemsActivity extends Activity { private Spinner spinner1, spinner2; private Button btnSubmit; private Bitmap image; private ImageView imageView; private String imc_met, imc; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.items); addItemsOnSpinner2(); addListenerOnButton(); addListenerOnSpinnerItemSelection(); } // add items into spinner dynamically public void addItemsOnSpinner2() { spinner2 = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner2); List<String> list = new ArrayList<String>(); list.add("list 1"); list.add("list 2"); list.add("list 3"); ArrayAdapter<String> dataAdapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item, list); dataAdapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinner2.setAdapter(dataAdapter); } public void addListenerOnSpinnerItemSelection() { spinner1 = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner1); spinner1.setOnItemSelectedListener(new CustomOnItemSelectedListener()); } // get the selected dropdown list value public void addListenerOnButton() { spinner1 = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner1); spinner2 = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner2); btnSubmit = (Button) findViewById(R.id.btnSubmit); spinner1.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() { @Override public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0, View arg1, int arg2, long arg3) { if(spinner1.getSelectedItem()!=null){ imc_met = spinner1.getSelectedItem().toString(); } } @Override public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } }); imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.ImageView01); btnSubmit.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { URL url = null; try { url = new URL("my.site.com"); //here should the right link appear. } catch (MalformedURLException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } try { if (url != null) { image = BitmapFactory.decodeStream(url.openStream()); } } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } imageView.setImageBitmap(image); } }); } @Override public boolean onCreateOptionsMenu(Menu menu) { // Inflate the menu; this adds items to the action bar if it is present. getMenuInflater().inflate(R.menu.main, menu); return true; } }

  • Implementing a listview inside a sliding drawer with a listview already present

    - by Parker
    I have an app whose main class extends ListActivity: public class GUIPrototype extends ListActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); final Cursor c = managedQuery(People.CONTENT_URI, null, null, null, null); String[] from = new String[] {People.NAME}; int[] to = new int[] { R.id.row_entry }; SimpleCursorAdapter adapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this,R.layout.drawer,c,from,to); setListAdapter(adapter); getListView().setTextFilterEnabled(true); } } I have a sliding drawer included in my XML, and I'm trying to get a separate listview to appear in the sliding drawer. I'm trying to populate the second listview using an inflater: View inflatedView = View.inflate(this, R.layout.main, null); ListView namesLV = (ListView) inflatedView.findViewById(R.id.content); String[] names2 = new String[] { "CS 345", "New Tag", "Untagged" }; ArrayAdapter<String> bb = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.main, R.id.row_entry, names2); namesLV.setAdapter(bb); This compiles, and runs, but the slidingdrawer is completely blank. My XML follows: <SlidingDrawer android:id="@+id/drawer" android:handle="@+id/handle" android:content="@+id/content" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_gravity="bottom"> <ImageView android:id="@id/handle" android:layout_width="48px" android:layout_height="48px" android:background="@drawable/icon"/> <ListView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@id/content"/> </SlidingDrawer> I feel like I'm missing a vital step. I haven't found any resources on my problem by Googling, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Android: failed to setContentView when switching to ListActivity

    - by Yang
    This is an follow-up issue on my previous question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2548304/android-which-view-should-i-use-for-showing-text-and-image I read the article about creating ListView for LinearLayout. However, my following code failed at the setContentView() function when I changed "extends Activity" to "extends ListActivity", any idea why? private TextView mSelection; //private ImageView mImages; static final String[] keywords = new String[]{"China", "Japan", "USA", "Canada"}; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.contactLayout); mSelection = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.ContactNames); ArrayAdapter adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.contactlayout, R.id.ContactNames,keywords); setListAdapter(adapter); } My Layout is from this article: http://www.curious-creature.org/2009/02/22/android-layout-tricks-1/ <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="?android:attr/listPreferredItemHeight" android:padding="6dip"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/icon" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_marginRight="6dip" android:src="@drawable/icon" /> <LinearLayout android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <TextView android:id="@+id/ContactNames" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:gravity="center_vertical" android:text="My Application" /> <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dip" android:layout_weight="1" android:singleLine="true" android:ellipsize="marquee" android:text="Simple application that shows how to use RelativeLayout" /> </LinearLayout>

  • Android: How to keep onItemSelected from firing off on a newly instantiated Spinner

    - by Drennen
    I've thought of some less than elegant ways to solve this, but I know I must be missing something. My onItemSelected fires off immediately without any interaction with the user, and this is undesired behavior. I wish for the UI to wait until the user selects something before it does anything. I even tried setting up the listener in the onResume, hoping that would help, but it doesn't. How can I stop this from firing off before the user can touch the control? THANKS public class CMSHome extends Activity { private Spinner spinner; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); // Heres my spinner /////////////////////////////////////////// spinner = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.spinner); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.pm_list, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinner.setAdapter(adapter); }; public void onResume() { super.onResume(); spinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new MyOnItemSelectedListener()); } public class MyOnItemSelectedListener implements OnItemSelectedListener { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, int pos, long id) { Intent i = new Intent(CMSHome.this, ListProjects.class); i.putExtra("bEmpID", parent.getItemAtPosition(pos).toString()); startActivity(i); Toast.makeText(parent.getContext(), "The pm is " + parent.getItemAtPosition(pos).toString(), Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView parent) { // Do nothing. } } }

  • Android ListView appears empty, but contains objects

    - by Lethjakman
    I'm having a really odd problem with my android listview. The listview is inside of a fragment, everything's compiling and I'm no longer getting a nullpointer error, but the listview is appearing empty. Even though it's appearing empty, the log is stating that the listview has 385 objects. I can't figure out why it's empty. I do get a blue fragment, and the listview is populated. Any ideas? How I set the adapter: ActivePackages = getList(); LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) this.getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); LinearLayout mContainer = (LinearLayout) inflater.inflate(R.layout.tab_frag1_layout, null); ListView activeList = (ListView) mContainer.findViewById(R.id.activelist); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, android.R.id.text1, ActivePackages); Log.i("valueof activeList",String.valueOf(activeList.getCount())); //returns 0 activeList.setAdapter(adapter); adapter.notifyDataSetChanged(); Log.i("valueof activeList",String.valueOf(activeList.getCount())); //returns 385. This is the xml for the fragment: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <ListView android:id="@+id/activelist" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:background="#0073fd"> </ListView> </LinearLayout>

  • Spinner in Android crashing when visibilty changes while handling OnClick in a button

    - by Dave George
    I have a spinner in UI, which I want to hide when I handle onClick method for a button. But the application is crashing all the time. Is it that I can't use the setVisibility(View.Gone) on spinners (it is not written anywhere). If I comment it out, then application run fine. I am getting NullPointerException and I am using RelativeLayout. Also, can I do this: public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> arg0, View view, int pos, long arg3) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub Toast.makeText(SpinnerActivity.this,selected , Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); spinner.setVisibility(View.GONE); } } Spinner code fore reference: itemsCity=getResources().getStringArray(R.array.cities_array); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.cities_array, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinnerCity.setAdapter(adapter); And here is Button code: private class BtClickListner implements View.OnClickListener{ @Override public void onClick(View v) { essEditText.setVisibility(View.GONE); spinnerCity.setEnabled(false);// Getting exception here // Also tried spinnerCity.setVisibility(View.GONE);// Exception SameBt.setVisibility(View.GONE);// This is same button for which I am handliing event, but it allows me to change tis property at run time. }

  • Android - updating a list adapter creates a NullPointException

    - by GeekedOut
    I have a ListActivity which has an adapter that crashes. Here is the code that crashes the program: Question q = new Question (); q.setQuestion( "" ); questions.add(q); adapter = new ArrayAdapter<Question>(this, R.layout.user_question_list, R.id.label, questions); Here is how I create the adapter: ArrayAdapter<Question> adapter; ArrayList<Question> questions = new ArrayList <Question>( ); and the list xml is like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:padding="10dp" android:textSize="16sp" > </TextView> and the overall Activity xml is like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/question_label" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Loading your questions..." /> <ListView android:id="@android:id/list" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="@+id/label" android:textSize="20px" > </ListView> <Button android:id="@+id/add_question" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Ask a Question" android:onClick="sendFeedback" android:layout_width="fill_parent"> </Button> </LinearLayout> Any idea why the code where I try to update the adapter results in the NullPointerException? Thanks!!

  • Returning a variable in a public void...

    - by James Rattray
    Hello, I'm abit new to programming Android App's, however I have come across a problem, I can't find a way to make global variables -unlike other coding like php or VB.NET, are global variables possible? If not can someone find a way (and if possible implement the way into the code I will provide below) to get a value from the variable 'songtoplay' so I can use in another Public Void... Here is the code: final Spinner hubSpinner = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.myspinner); ArrayAdapter adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.colours, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter .setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); hubSpinner.setAdapter(adapter); // hubSpinner.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView, View selectedItemView, int position, long id) { //code Object ttestt = hubSpinner.getSelectedItem(); final String test2 = ttestt.toString(); Toast message1 = Toast.makeText(Textbox.this, test2, Toast.LENGTH_LONG); message1.show(); String songtoplay = test2; // Need songtoplay to be available in another 'Public Void' } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView) { //Code } }); Basically, it gets the value from the Spinner 'hubSpinner' and displays it in a Toast. I then want it to return a value for string variable 'songtoplay' -or find a way to make it global or useable in another Public Void, (Which is will a button, -loading the song to be played) Please help me, Thanks alot. • How to Get user input from a Text Entry Box in Android?

    - by NewGuy
    in an android website, I found an article about how to create a text entry widget that provides auto-complete suggestions. (Following is the link to the site; and it shows all the codes). http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/views/hello-autocomplete.html Can anyone please tell me how I can capture the input entered by the user? For example, if the user chooses “Canada”, is there a way I can know the result in the “HelloAutoComplete.java” activity? Any help would be greatly appreciated. public class HelloAutoComplete extends Activity { @Override protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); AutoCompleteTextView textView = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.autocomplete_country); String[] countries = getResources().getStringArray(R.array.countries_array); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, countries); textView.setAdapter(adapter); textView.setOnItemSelectedListener(new AdapterView.OnItemSelectedListener() { public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView, View view, int i, long l) { if (adapterView.getItemAtPosition(i).toString().equals("Canada")) { Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "Result Canada", Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } //Does not get an out put when I select Canada. } public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> adapterView) { } }); } }

  • Style first 2 TextViews in Android ListView differently

    - by Kurtis Nusbaum
    I have a ListView and I want the first two entries in it to be displayed differently than the rest. Nothing fancy, I want them all to just be text views. But the first two entries need to have different sizes and weights than the rest. I tried modifying the ArrayAdapter class like so: private class BusStopAdapter<T> extends ArrayAdapter<T>{ public BusStopAdapter( Context context, int textViewResourceId, List<T> objects) { super(context, textViewResourceId, objects); } public View getView(int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TextView toReturn = (TextView)super.getView(position, convertView, parent); if(position == 0){ toReturn.setTextSize(12); toReturn.setText("Previous Bus: " + toReturn.getText()); toReturn.setPadding(0,0,0,0); } else if(position == 1){ toReturn.setTextSize(20); toReturn.setPadding( toReturn.getPaddingLeft(), 0, toReturn.getPaddingRight(), 0 ); toReturn.setText("Next Bus: " + toReturn.getText()); toReturn.setGravity(Gravity.CENTER_HORIZONTAL|Gravity.TOP); } return toReturn; } } But this inadvertantly causes some of the other textviews to take on these special attributes. I think it's because cause textviews get "recycled" in the AbsListAdapter class.

  • How to putExtra() in Searchable Dictionary Example

    - by sirlunchalot
    Hi, based on the Searchable Dictionary sample I tried to put extra data to a different activity. public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); Spinner distance = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.distanceSpinner); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapterDistance = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource( this, R.array.distance, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapterDistance.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); distance.setAdapter(adapterDistance); Intent intent = getIntent(); if (Intent.ACTION_VIEW.equals(intent.getAction())) { // handles a click on a search suggestion; launches activity to show word mapIntent = new Intent(this, Map.class); mapIntent.setData(intent.getData()); mapIntent.putExtra("Distance", distance.getSelectedItemPosition()); startActivity(mapIntent); finish(); } } In my Map Class Distance is always zero because distance.getSelectedItemPostion() gets the initialized value. How can I putExtra data with a click on a search suggestion? Thanks

  • Android: How to put ListView in XML?

    - by FloIancu
    I want to make a simple app that shows a list of contacts (name, surname). My code: package lista.android; import java.util.*; import android.app.ListActivity; import android.os.Bundle; import android.widget.*; class Contact{ String nume; String prenume; Contact(String nume, String prenume){ this.nume=nume; this.prenume=prenume; } public String toString(){ return prenume +" "+ nume; } } public class Lista1Activity extends ListActivity { /** Called when the activity is first created. */ ArrayList <Contact> lista; ArrayAdapter <Contact> adaptor; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); setListAdapter(adaptor); lista=new ArrayList<Contact>(); adaptor=new ArrayAdapter<Contact>(this, R.id.element, lista); adaugaContact("Florian", "Iancu"); adaugaContact("Ioana", "Constantina"); } public void adaugaContact(String nume, String prenume){ lista.add(new Contact(nume, prenume)); adaptor.notifyDataSetChanged(); } } In the XML I have the LinearLayout and a TextView that is the list element. When I run it, the simulator says "Sorry, the application [...] has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." The LogCat tells me I have to have a ListView whose id is android.R.id.lista. If I create a random ListView field in the XML file and give it the "lista" id, it still doesn't work. How to I call that ListView from XML to match something in my Java code? In other words, I know I'm wrong, but where and how do I fix it?

  • Custom android preference type loses focus when typing

    - by Brian
    I created a simple preference class that shows an AutoCompleteTextView control and it displays properly but when i focus on the AutoCompleteTextView and start typing it brings up the keyboard but then immediately loses focus on the control. Any idea why this loses focus? Here's what i did to create the view. the inflated layout is just a basic linear layout with a title textview in it. I could change it to a dialog preference instead I guess but it'd be smoother if it could be part of the base view. @Override protected View onCreateView(ViewGroup parent) { LayoutInflater inflater = (LayoutInflater) getContext().getSystemService(Context.LAYOUT_INFLATER_SERVICE); LinearLayout layout = (LinearLayout) inflater.inflate(R.layout.base_preference, null); if (mHint != null) { TextView hintView = (TextView) layout.findViewById(R.id.PreferenceHintTextView); hintView.setText(mHint); } TextView titleView = (TextView) layout.findViewById(R.id.PreferenceTitleTextView); titleView.setText(getTitle()); AutoCompleteTextView inputView = new AutoCompleteTextView(getContext()); inputView.setGravity(Gravity.FILL_HORIZONTAL); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<CharSequence>(getContext(), R.layout.auto_complete_text_list_item, getEntries()); inputView.setAdapter(adapter); inputView.setThreshold(1); inputView.setOnItemSelectedListener(this); layout.addView(inputView); return layout; }

  • Spinner activity not working

    - by user1696863
    I'm trying to create an activity, RateCardActivity, which has a spinner in it. My layout file for RateCardActivity is rate_card. My RateCardActivity looks like the following. public class RateCardActivity { public void onCreate(Bundle bundle) { super.onCreate(bundle); setContentView(R.layout.rate_card); Spinner spinner = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.select_city); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource(this, R.array.select_city, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinner.setAdapter(adapter); } } The layout file rate_card is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:custom="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.olacabs.customer" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/textView1" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@android:color/darker_gray" android:gravity="center" android:paddingBottom="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" android:text="@string/rate_card" android:textColor="@color/white" android:textSize="20dp" custom:customFont="litera_bold.ttf" /> <Spinner android:id="@+id/select_city" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" /> </LinearLayout> The RateCardActivity is called from another activity using an intent (I'm sure there is nothing wrong with that part of the code as when I substitute RateCardActivity with another activity, the application works fine). When I try to open the RateCardActivity in the application in emulator, the application crashes and I got the message "The application has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again later." I can't seem to understand what I'm doing wrong, and want to know how to correct this?

  • Spinner original text

    - by user1696863
    I'm trying my Spinner to display "Select City" before the Spinner has itself been clicked by the user. How can I do this? My current XML code is: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:custom="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/com.olacabs.customer" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:background="@drawable/page_background" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/textView1" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:background="@android:color/darker_gray" android:gravity="center" android:paddingBottom="4dp" android:paddingTop="4dp" android:text="@string/rate_card" android:textColor="@color/white" android:textSize="20dp" custom:customFont="litera_bold.ttf" /> <Spinner android:id="@+id/select_city" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginTop="40dp" android:prompt="@string/selectCity" /> </LinearLayout> Also, what does android:spinnerMode exactly do. I tried changing its value to dropdown but nothing happened and the application still showed a popup dialogue. My activity that implements this XML file is: public class RateCardActivity extends OlaActivity { public void onCreate(Bundle bundle) { super.onCreate(bundle); setContentView(R.layout.rate_card); Spinner spinner = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.select_city); ArrayAdapter<CharSequence> adapter = ArrayAdapter.createFromResource(this, R.array.select_city, android.R.layout.simple_spinner_item); adapter.setDropDownViewResource(android.R.layout.simple_spinner_dropdown_item); spinner.setAdapter(adapter); } }

  • Spinner setonitemselectedlistener is not called

Here is my code : language = (Spinner) findViewById(R.id.current_language_text); ArrayAdapter adapter = new ArrayAdapter(this, com.Orange.R.layout.my_spinner_textview, languages); adapter.setDropDownViewResource(com.Orange.R.layout.multiline_spinner_dropdown_item); language.setAdapter(adapter); language.setSelection(Integer.valueOf(language_id) - 1); language.setOnItemSelectedListener(new OnItemSelectedListener() { @Override public void onItemSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView, View selectedItemView, int position, long id) { System.out.println("position "+position); Toast.makeText(Settings.this, "Hello Toast",Toast.LENGTH_SHORT).show(); } @Override public void onNothingSelected(AdapterView<?> parentView) { // your code here } }); The problem is that onItemSelectedListener is not called. I put System.out.println in onItemSelected() but I don't get it in LogCat. I tried with Toast, and I get the same, it doesn't appear. Every time I select an item from spinner, in LogCat I get this warning : Window already focused, ignoring focus gain of: com.android.internal.view.IInputMethodClient$Stub$Proxy@2b1dabd0 Any idea why onItemSelectedListener is not called ?

    First post. I'm new to android and programming in general. What I'm attempting to is to have an autocomplete text box pop up with auto complete names from the contact list. IE, if they type in "john" it will say "John Smith" or any john in their contacts. The code is basic, I pulled it from a few tutorials. private void autoCompleteBox() { ContentResolver cr = getContentResolver(); Uri contacts = Uri.parse("content://contacts/people"); Cursor managedCursor1 = cr.query(contacts, null, null, null, null); if (managedCursor1.moveToFirst()) { String contactname; String cphoneNumber; int nameColumn = managedCursor1.getColumnIndex("name"); int phoneColumn = managedCursor1.getColumnIndex("number"); Log.d("int Name", Integer.toString(nameColumn)); Log.d("int Number", Integer.toString(phoneColumn)); do { // Get the field values contactname = managedCursor1.getString(nameColumn); cphoneNumber = managedCursor1.getString(phoneColumn); if ((contactname != " " || contactname != null) && (cphoneNumber != " " || cphoneNumber != null)) { c_Name.add(contactname); c_Number.add(cphoneNumber); Toast.makeText(this, contactname, Toast.LENGTH_SHORT) .show(); } } while (managedCursor1.moveToNext()); } name_Val = (String[]) c_Name.toArray(new String[c_Name.size()]); phone_Val = (String[]) c_Number.toArray(new String[c_Name.size()]); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_dropdown_item_1line, name_Val); personName.setAdapter(adapter); } personName is my autocompletetextbox. So it actually works when I use it in the emulator (4.2) with manually entered contacts through the people app, but when I use it on my device, it will not pop up with any names. I'm sure it's something ridiculous but I've tried to find the answer and I'm getting nowhere. Can't learn if I don't ask.

  • search a listview in Persian

    - by user3641353
    I have listview with textview which I use textview for search items in listview. It works true but just in English. I can not change the keyboard to Persian. Do you have any solution? this is my code: ArrayAdapter<String> adapter; String[] allMovesStr = {"??? ???? ????","?? ???? ????","?? ???? ????? ???????"}; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.all_moves); adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, allMovesStr); setListAdapter(adapter); EditText ed = (EditText) findViewById(R.id.inputSearch); ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(android.R.id.list); lv.setTextFilterEnabled(true); ed.addTextChangedListener(new TextWatcher() { public void onTextChanged(CharSequence arg0, int arg1, int arg2, int arg3) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence arg0, int arg1, int arg2, int arg3) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } public void afterTextChanged(Editable arg0) { // vaghti kar bar harfi vared kard josteju mikone : AllMoves.this.adapter.getFilter().filter(arg0); } }); }

  • ANDROID SAX Parser issue

    - by Chris Watson
    Since I am new to java programming, I need a bit of help with this. I stuck on this one issue and can't continue until I get this to work. I am trying to make a string from that includes a preference int. I saved the data and can display the int (just sample code): SharedPreferences prefs=PreferenceManager .getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); list.setText(prefs.getString("list", "22")); now, I have a xml parser that is pulling a url correctly as a static string: public static String feedUrl = String.format("http://www.freshpointmarketing.com/iphone/objects/XML/AND.php?ID=%d", 22); Works great... now my issue...... I need to have the preference "int" become the variable in the string, thus making it not static. static SharedPreferences prefs=PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); static int myVariable = prefs.getInt("list1", 22); public static String feedUrl = String.format("http://www.freshpointmarketing.com/iphone/objects/XML/AND.php?ID=%d", myVariable); If I take out all static references, I get an error on this: private void loadFeed(ParserType type){ try{ FeedParser parser = FeedParserFactory.getParser(type); long start = System.currentTimeMillis(); messages = parser.parse(); long duration = System.currentTimeMillis() - start; Log.i("AndroidNews", "Parser duration=" + duration); String xml = writeXml(); Log.i("AndroidNews", xml); List<String> titles = new ArrayList<String>(messages.size()); for (Message msg : messages){ titles.add(msg.getTitle()); } ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.row,titles); this.setListAdapter(adapter); } catch (Throwable t){ Log.e("AndroidNews",t.getMessage(),t); } } thanks

  • ListView and wrap_content

    - by gaiapac
    I want to create an activity with a ListView on the left and a TextView on the right, side by side. I write the following xml, but the ListView occupies the entire page and it don't worry about the wrap_content. Why? How can I resolve it? <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" xmlns:tools="http://schemas.android.com/tools" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="horizontal" > <ListView android:id="@+id/lv" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="match_parent" /> <TextView android:id="@+id/tv" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="match_parent" /> </LinearLayout> EDIT: my onCreate @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.activity_main); ListView lv = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.lv); String[] values = new String[] { "Test1", "Test2", "Test3", "Test4" }; ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this,R.layout.left, R.id.tv1, values); lv.setAdapter(adapter); }

  • Having trouble binding a ksoap object to an ArrayList in Android

    - by Maskau
    I'm working on an app that calls a web service, then the webservice returns an array list. My problem is I am having trouble getting the data into the ArrayList and then displaying in a ListView. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? I know for a fact the web service returns an ArrayList. Everything seems to be working fine, just no data in the ListView or the ArrayList.....Thanks in advance! EDIT: So I added more code to the catch block of run() and now it's returning "org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject".....no more no less....and I am even more confused now... package com.maskau; import java.util.ArrayList; import org.ksoap2.SoapEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.serialization.PropertyInfo; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject; import org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapSerializationEnvelope; import org.ksoap2.transport.AndroidHttpTransport; import android.app.*; import android.os.*; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.Button; import android.widget.EditText; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.TextView; import android.view.View; import android.view.View.OnClickListener; public class Home extends Activity implements Runnable{ /** Called when the activity is first created. */ public static final String SOAP_ACTION = "http://bb.mcrcog.com/GetArtist"; public static final String METHOD_NAME = "GetArtist"; public static final String NAMESPACE = "http://bb.mcrcog.com"; public static final String URL = "http://bb.mcrcog.com/karaoke/service.asmx"; String wt; public static ProgressDialog pd; TextView text1; ListView lv; static EditText myEditText; static Button but; private ArrayList<String> Artist_Result = new ArrayList<String>(); @Override public void onCreate(Bundle icicle) { super.onCreate(icicle); setContentView(R.layout.main); myEditText = (EditText)findViewById(R.id.myEditText); text1 = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.text1); lv = (ListView)findViewById(R.id.lv); but = (Button)findViewById(R.id.but); but.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { wt = ("Searching for " + myEditText.getText().toString()); text1.setText(""); pd = ProgressDialog.show(Home.this, "Working...", wt , true, false); Thread thread = new Thread(Home.this); thread.start(); } } ); } public void run() { try { SoapObject request = new SoapObject(NAMESPACE, METHOD_NAME); PropertyInfo pi = new PropertyInfo(); pi.setName("ArtistQuery"); pi.setValue(Home.myEditText.getText().toString()); request.addProperty(pi); SoapSerializationEnvelope envelope = new SoapSerializationEnvelope(SoapEnvelope.VER11); envelope.dotNet = true; envelope.setOutputSoapObject(request); AndroidHttpTransport at = new AndroidHttpTransport(URL); at.call(SOAP_ACTION, envelope); java.util.Vector<Object> rs = (java.util.Vector<Object>)envelope.getResponse(); if (rs != null) { for (Object cs : rs) { Artist_Result.add(cs.toString()); } } } catch (Exception e) { // Added this line, throws "org.ksoap2.serialization.SoapObject" when run Artist_Result.add(e.getMessage()); } handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } private Handler handler = new Handler() { @Override public void handleMessage(Message msg) { ArrayAdapter<String> aa; aa = new ArrayAdapter<String>(Home.this, android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, Artist_Result); lv.setAdapter(aa); try { if (Artist_Result.isEmpty()) { text1.setText("No Results"); } else { text1.setText("Complete"); myEditText.setText("Search Artist"); } } catch(Exception e) { text1.setText(e.getMessage()); } aa.notifyDataSetChanged(); pd.dismiss(); } }; }

  • From AutoComplete textbox to database search and display?

    - by svebee
    Hello everyone, I have a small problem so I would be grateful if anyone could help me in any way. Thank you ;) I have this little "application", and I want when someone type in a AutoComplete textbox for example "New" it automatically displays "New York" as a option and that (AutoComplete function) works fine. But I want when user type in full location (or AutoComplete do it for him) - that text (location) input is forwarded to a database search which then searches through database and "collects" all rows with user-typed location. For example if user typed in "New York", database search would find all rows with "New York" in it. When it finds one/more row(s) it would display them below. In images... I have this when user is typing... http://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093305_SNAG0000.jpg I have this when user choose a AutoComplete location (h)ttp://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093306_SNAG0001.jpg (remove () on the beggining) But I wanna this when user choose a AutoComplete location (h)ttp://www.imagesforme.com/show.php/1093307_CopyofSNAG0001.jpg (remove () on the beggining) Complete Code package com.svebee.prijevoz; import android.app.Activity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.database.sqlite.SQLiteDatabase; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.widget.ArrayAdapter; import android.widget.AutoCompleteTextView; import android.widget.TextView; public class ZelimDoci extends Activity { TextView lista; static final String[] STANICE = new String[] { "New York", "Chicago", "Dallas", "Los Angeles" }; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.zelimdoci); AutoCompleteTextView textView = (AutoCompleteTextView) findViewById(R.id.autocomplete_country); ArrayAdapter<String> adapter = new ArrayAdapter<String>(this, R.layout.list_item, STANICE); textView.setAdapter(adapter); lista = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.lista); SQLiteDatabase myDB= null; String TableName = "Database"; String Data=""; /* Create a Database. */ try { myDB = this.openOrCreateDatabase("Database", MODE_PRIVATE, null); /* Create a Table in the Database. */ myDB.execSQL("CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + TableName + " (Field1 INT(3) UNIQUE, Field2 INT(3) UNIQUE, Field3 VARCHAR UNIQUE, Field4 VARCHAR UNIQUE);"); Cursor a = myDB.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM Database where Field1 == 1", null); a.moveToFirst(); if (a == null) { /* Insert data to a Table*/ myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (1, 119, 'New York', 'Dallas');"); myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (9, 587, 'California', 'New York');"); } myDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + TableName + " (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4)" + " VALUES (87, 57, 'Canada', 'London');"); } /*retrieve data from database */ Cursor c = myDB.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM " + TableName , null); int Column1 = c.getColumnIndex("Field1"); int Column2 = c.getColumnIndex("Field2"); int Column3 = c.getColumnIndex("Field3"); int Column4 = c.getColumnIndex("Field4"); // Check if our result was valid. c.moveToFirst(); if (c != null) { // Loop through all Results do { String LocationA = c.getString(Column3); String LocationB = c.getString(Column4); int Id = c.getInt(Column1); int Linija = c.getInt(Column2); Data =Data +Id+" | "+Linija+" | "+LocationA+"-"+LocationB+"\n"; }while(c.moveToNext()); } lista.setText(String.valueOf(Data)); } catch(Exception e) { Log.e("Error", "Error", e); } finally { if (myDB != null) myDB.close(); } } } .xml file <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <TextView android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="20sp" android:gravity="center_horizontal" android:padding="10sp" android:text="Test AutoComplete"/> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:orientation="horizontal" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="5dp"> <TextView android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="AutoComplete" /> <AutoCompleteTextView android:id="@+id/autocomplete_country" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginLeft="5dp"/> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout>
