We are using dynamic views and I can see other views checked out files using clearcase version tree so I think it should be possible to specify in a config spec. When I check out a file I can see the following information. cleartool lshistory "20100312.133301" "userid" "/vobs/.../.../File.cpp" "/main///CHECKEDOUT" "checkout version" "checkout".

• Remote Desktop connection repeatedly aborting

  I connect to my workplace computer using Remote Desktop. After 1-2 minutes the application freezes to tell me after one more minute that the connection was aborted. It then reconnects. Everything works again for 1-2 minutes. Then the process repeats. Probably Forever. My coworkers do not experience such problems when connecting to the workplace. My workplace computer: Windows 7 32bit My home computer: Windows 7 64bit connected to the internet via WLAN-router with integrated ADSL modem (Linksys WAG200G) Things I already tried to fix the problem: disabled the Windows firewall disabled the other firewall reduced the MTU upgraded the firmware on the router configured port-forwarding to forward all packets to my home computer The problem remains unchanged. What could be the cause of the connection aborts? What else can I try to fix the connection? Thanks in advance.

  I need an easy way to jump on someone elses machine to help them solve a problem. It needs to be really easy for them to install (preferably doesn't actually require an "install" but just running an exe?). It must punch through any firewalls automatically using a relay server or P2P (so Remote Desktop itself is no use to me). I've found commercial products like MeetMeNow but they're really expensive. I want something that you can either buy a cheap pack of sessions or minutes, or preferably something free. I'm not in the business of commerical support and would only use it once every couple of months perhaps.

  I'm in a situation where I act as a sort of techinical support to my family and less techinically experienced friends. I'm looking for a remote desktop solution where it's possible to setup a "zero-install, double click an icon"-solution where the client computer contacts me so that I may interact with their desktop. The last part is important as the people in need of my help don't know how to configure their router or even the firewall software on their own computer. They are able to click an accept button when asked if a program should be able to make outgoing connections. They have many different kinds of routers, as well as software firewalls, and I rather not deal with the problem of how to connect to them using whatever as well as the actual problem they are having. It must be: Free of charge for non-commercial use. Possible to use it in a mode where the computer wanting to share its desktop should be able to make a connection to my computer. My computer has a DNS name we can use. Compatible with both Windows XP and Windows 7. Independent of a third party server or infrastructure. Explanations of the above: I don't want to spend money on it when I help them for free. If it's free as in freedom, all the better! I guess this boils down to being callable like showdesktopto.exe opscomputer.com where opscomputer.com is my computers DNS name. If that is possible then I can create a shortcut they can use to connect to me when they need help. It's nice if it's possible to specify a password or key file which I can use to authenticate myself, but it's not required. They use the OS which their machine comes installed with. That means Windows XP or 7. I want something which will work in the long run. Using a third party service which might not be available when I need it disqualified such solutions.

I have already listed the changeset versions in a file (couple of hundred of versions, I only need the latest one), I do not have a baseline over this older set. • Continuous integration with ClearCase and long-updating snapshot views

  Hi, I need to set up a continuous integration system. We use ClearCase version control and only snapshot views due to platform restrictions. I have tried setting up Hudson and Luntbuild. They both show the same behaviour. In a view, we have lots of libraries that are used for build but are strictly read-only. The CI system executes cleartool lshistory and finds a change in the VCS. After that, it executes cleartool setcs, which causes update of the view. This can take about half an hour, which is very undesirable for CI. Why wouldn't it update only the changed elements, which were previously obtained by cleartool lshistory? Is there a CI system that can do this?

When we integrate Rational ClearQuest and Rational ClearCase, the activities will be coming from the Rational ClearQuest. Now since the implementation of Rational ClearQuest will take time due to the process, we are thinking of removing the activity creation from the developer side. We are thinking of making the admin create the activities for each developer. Now I have a few concerns, If the admin creates the activities and changes the owner for the activity and the group using the protect command, Is it enough? • Unable to update the snapshot view in clearcase on linux

  Hi I am trying to create a new snapshot view on my machine and i am using the following procedure: creating the view using ct mkview -snapshot -tag testview -vws /home/store/testview.vws /home/view/testview here the view gets created but fails to register which i register using the ct update on this /home/view/testview location tried to change the configspec using ct edcs & but got error "cleartool: Error: Cannot get view info for current view: not a ClearCase object." explicitly modifying the config_spec using vi editor, and the updating the view ends up creating a log...but no files are copied :( Can someone please direct me as to where i am going wrong?

• preserving history when using mercurial ontop of clearcase

  I work in a ClearCase shop and CC does a good job of integrating the team's work though our code review process prevents me from using it to track my daily changes. Creating an hg repository on top of my CC view works really well. I can track my changes and easily make backups on the file server, produce diffs for people etc. This is all well and good until I move to a new CC view and have to leave my history behind. I would love to be able to ?pull? my previous history in and have everything that's different in the new view show up as the latest change set.

  Hi all, I have created a clearcase dynamic view for my development by name "view1". I have mistakenly selected the view storage location as a local PC in my network, that was made sharable by the PC owner. I was suppose to select the view storage location to be a server. Now, the issue is that I have done lot of development with the view that I have created and have plenty of view DO's and view private files in it. So I'm ruling out the option of deleting the view from the PC local storage (host path) and then creating another view in the server with the same config spec. Please, let me know if there is any method of editing the view properties (or doing something else) by which I could be able to move the view to the server (with all the DO's and view private files retained) Thanks in advance, Rahamath

• ClearCase UCM Mainline Configuration Management Pattern Question

  A configuration management pattern question (using Rational ClearCase UCM) When I use the mainline approach I create new releases by: - create release 1 from mainline - on a certain moment baseline release 1, deliver release 1 to mainline - create release 2 from mainline - on a certain moment baseline release 2, deliver release 2 to mainline - create release 3 from mainline - etc... Works very nice because the pathname is /main/release 3/latest instead of /main/release 1/release 2/release 3/latest etc... However... when in release 1 are new elements that have to be propagated to later releases I can not use the mainline since the mainline is already on e.g. release 4. The only thing I can do is deliver/merge from release 1 directly to release 2. The bad thing is that the pathname then becomes /main/release 1/release 2/latest for that files (and possibly later releases). That is I think not in line with the mainline approach. What am I doing wrong?

  i have a simple application, which receives input from a user for a CC stream name, and is suppose to return the content of a specific file from this stream repository. I have tried doing this using a simple shell script: user enters stream name, java receives stream name, runs a process which runs a script "myccscript.sh" which contains "myinput=$1; cleartool setview $myinput" (or something like that). then i try reading the file and printing it's content in the java side. BUT, after the process is finished - the view is not the view from the user input - that environment was probably only valid for the process Ive created. how do i change the clearcase view to the main java process? • Remote Desktop doesn't lock remote PC.

  I regularly use RDP to connect to my home computer (WinXP Pro SP3) from work (WinXP Pro SP3). My home computer has multiple users set up with Fast User Switching enabled. The problem is that my wife and kids are able to log in while I'm connected via RDP. There's nothing on the login screen to indicate that I'm logged in, much less a lock of some kind that prevents them from logging in. So, is there something I can do to actually lock them out while I'm connected, or at least indicate that I'm logged in?

  I want to know what is the logic behind server client communication through packets for a real time game. for example the server sends x packets then the client receives x packets and processes them.. Basically what is the process to keep the client and server in sync and able to receive and send packets. more in depth example of what I want to know: client step 1 wait for a packet step 2 read x packets step 3 process x packets step 4 send x packets and so on... I need to know the very basic outline of the communication. Big questions are: 1) do I send and read packets all at one time? i.e for loop though the incoming packets array list and read them all or one every server loop or what... 2) what order should I do things i.e first receive then read then process then send etc.. 3) what I asked above a step by step of what the server / client should do.. I would like to be able to send batch commands to my PC, like: Download an email attachment Use it as input for an UI-less program Save the program's output to a file Send that file to myself as an email attachment Is this possible?   We will soon start replacing ClearCase with Mercurial. I hear this is a good thing. The change model vs. the version model. Wave of the future. I'm prepared to believe this. Still, it kind of frightens me. Hey, it took Joel Spolsky a while to grok the difference and how to get maximum advantage out of Mercurial, so I'm betting I will run into conceptual traps and pitfalls. Does anyone have any real-world "how to grok Mercurial" tips? Anything specific suggestions that will help me bridge the conceptual gap. Any warnings about things not to do? I'd appreciate hearing them. I've already read the closest questions on SO related to this topic, as well as the Mercurial tour and a number of other blogs.
