    How can I implement a vtable COM interface in java? In the old days, I'd use the Microsft JVM, which had built in java-COM interop. What's the equivalent for a modern JRE? Answers to a similar SO question proposed JACOB. I've looked at JACOB, but that is based on IDispatch, and is aimed at controlling Automation serers. The COM interfaces I need are custom vtable (extend IUnknown), e.g. IPersistStream, IOleWindow, IContextMenu etc. For my use case, I could implement all the COM specifics in JNI, and have the JNI layer call corresponding interfaces in java. But I'm hoping for a less painful solution. It's for an open source project, so open source alternatives are preferred.

    I need to determine the COM component(unmanaged code) type and invoke the exposed interface's methods using reflection in C# at runtime. First What member of "Type" tells that type is COM component and we can take CLSID at runtime? Is Type.COMObject? I need to call methods of exposed interfaces as they called in unmanaged code using CoCreateInstance by passing CLSID and REFID ... I am using InvokeMember but it returns null or 0 as out parameter. How to pass out parameter in this case.? Is there any need to pass out parameter? As all my COM unmanaged code suppose to take last parameter as an OUT parameter and after executing it puts the result into that out param. But I've converted all my unmanaged COM code to .NET managed assemblies using tlbimp.exe.

  • Invoking .Net COM assembly from Powerbuilder application (without registration)

    We have a Powerbuilder 10 application that is using .Net COM assemblies. We are trying to embed the manifest in the PB application (to invoke COM assemblies without registration). The merged manifest file has added sections for dependecies on the .Net COM assemblies. We have tries various tools to inject the new manifest with different results - using GenMan32 to inject truncates the application from 6MB to 45KB. - using ResourceTuner, the file size looks okay, but trying to launch application gives "Fatal Disk Error". Any suggestions on invoked .Net ComEnabled assembly from PB without registration?

    I have trouble to expose a .NET assembly in COM. It seems that I must be missing some basic step because I think I followed all tutorials and documentation I found as well as common sense, but still when I do (in a test VBScript): Set o = CreateObject("MyLib.MyClass") It keeps saying that the object cannot be created. Here are the steps I have done: I have simple one method dummy class with no attributes. The class is in a class library which has "Make assembly COM-visible" ticked in Visual Studio. The class library is signed. The DLL is registered via RegAsm.exe with the /codebase parameter (I don’t want / cannot add the DLL to GAC). Just to be sure, I tried to copy the library to the same directory as the test VBScript, but it does not help. Edit: I should have mentioned that the I can instantiate the class in COM if I put the DLL into GAC.

  • "Could not load file or assembly" error on trying to access auxillary assemblies from COM

    We have the project structure as follows: COMExposedCCW.dll -refers- BusinessLayer.dll -refers- Utils.dll COMExposedCCW.dll -refers- Utils.dll The COMExposedCCW.dll has been registered for COM interop. From the COM application{Excel} we can successfully create the CCW object and access its properties, but when we try to invoke methods that refer to the Business/Utils layer, it throws an exception that the file or assembly{Business/Utils} could not be found. The Business/Utils dlls are present in the same folder as the CCW. On copying the Business/Utils to the COM application directory it works fine. I've tried the following: Set "HintPath/" in the CCW project I dont want to dynamically load the assemblies using Reflection {there should be a more elegant solution} Thanks in advance.

Class implements IDisposable interface, but when I try to implement a finalization method, I get an exception of access to com object from another thread. This happens because clr uses a different thread when finalizes objects. Is there any way to implement such a thing or maybe I just doing something wrong?

  • Difference between "traditional" COM and COM+ (in Component Services)

    By the "traditional" way I mean registering the DLL in registry. There seems to be another method to set up it by going to mmc-Component Services-COM+ Applications and adding the .tlb file. I have a COM library that supports both methods. When it installs, it registers itself in the registry as a COM component and it works fine. However, when I added the .tlb file using the Component Services method, the behavior seems to be different and it starts giving out errors. I suspect it has something to do with marshaling and inter-process object transfer? (Sorry, I'm really a noob in the COM area) Can anyone point me to a good resource to clear my understanding?

    Am trying create of PoC for exposing/invoking various .NET objects from COM clients. The .NET library contains some classes and Enums. Am able to successfully access the classes in VBScript but not able to access the Enums. I know that Enums are value types and hence 'CreateObject' wont work in this case. But am able to access the same Enum in VBA code. Questions: How can I access the enums in VBScript? Why does the behaviour differ in the two COM clients? In my cpp side I have followed several examples I have found on the web: ...     I have a C# COM server which is consumed by a cpp client. One of the C# methods returns a string. In cpp the returned string is represented in Unicode (UTF-16), at least according to the memory view. Is this always the case with COM strings? Is there a way to use UTF-8 instead? I saw some code where strings were passed between cpp and c# as byte arrays. Is there any benefit in this?

    Can I invoke an option on a COM Add-in from a VBA macro in Word or Excel 2007? The COM Add-in was written using VSTO – it adds a custom ribbon tab with a number of options that I want to execute from a VBA macro. I can reference the add-in using Application.COMAddIns("MyAddinName") but I can’t find an option to invoke an option. I’ve also played around with the Application.CommandBars collection, and can see that you can execute an option using CommandBarControl.Execute but I can’t find my command bar in the Application.CommandBars collection. Does anyone know if this is possible?

I've tried using the OLE/COM Object View app to open the .tlb file and save as .h, but it gives some errors: MIDL1009: unknown argument ignored; MIDL1001: cannot open input file Studio "Studio" isn't the name of the file, it's Syslog, so that raises a red flag to me. Any ideas?

    Well, I have an ActiveX (*.ocx) component, and i use it in a managed C++/CLI project: write a managed wrapper around ActiveX component[ NET has a great Interop services : provides me genarated dll so i can easily use it in my managed code] The problem is that Visual Studio (2008) automatically copy the generated Interop *.dll to the directory where my *.exe file stay.But i want put all my genarated Interop *.dll to a folder ... Suppose My directory structure is so: D:\MyProject\Output\MyProject.exe //My mamanged exe D:\MyProject\Output\Interop.XXXLib.1.0.dll // *Interop .dll I want to put Interop.XXXLib.1.0.dll into new folder D:\MyProject\Output\Interops and use it from that directory...How Can i do it? [ uuid(uuidhere), noncreatable ] coclass CoClass { [default] interface ICoClass; }; I mean such class will not be registered to COM anyway. What's the reason to mention it in the IDL file and in the type library produced by compiling that IDL file?

    I use 3rd party COM to find faces in a picture. One of the methods has the following signature, from SDK: long FindMultipleFaces( IUnknown* pIDibImage, VARIANTARG* FacePositionArray ); Parameters: pIDibImage[in] - The image to search. FacePositionArray[out]- The array of FacePosition2 objects into which face information is placed. This array is in a safe array (VARIANT) of type VT_UNKNOWN. The size of the array dictates the maximum number of faces for which to search. which translates into the following C# method signature (from metadata): int FindMultipleFaces(object pIDibImage, ref object pIFacePositions); Being optimistic I call it the following way but get an exception that the memory is corrupt. The exception is thrown only when a face is present in the image. FacePosition2[] facePositions = new FacePosition2[10]; object positions = facePositions; int faceCount = FaceLocator.FindMultipleFaces(dibImage, ref positions); What's the right way to pass SAFEARRAY to unmanaged code?

  • How to marshal a COM-Parameter as VT_ARRAY of VT_RECORD

    I've already done some extensive search, but I can't seem to find anything matching my problem. The task I'm currently working on is to create a WCF-Wrapper for some DCOM-Objects. This already works great for the most parts, but now I'm stuck with one invocation that expects a VT_ARRAY containing VT_RECORD-Objects. Marshalling as VT_ARRAY is not a problem, but how can I tell COM that the elements in this array are VT_RECORDs? This is the invocation as I current use it. InitTestCase(testCaseName, parameterFileName, testCase, cellInfos.ToArray()); The parameter I'm talking about is the last one. It's defined as List<CellInfo>, CellInfo itself is already attributed with Guid("7D422961-331E-47E2-BC71-7839E9E77D39") and ComVisible(true). It's not a struct but a class. This is the condition failing on the native side: if (VT_RECORD == varCellConfig.vt)... Because of old software using these interfaces, changing the native side is not an option Any idea?
