  • Applescript save command for QuickTime Player

    I've installed the Perian addon for Quicktime so it can open .flv files, and then I can save them as .m4v or .mov. I'm trying to make an Applescript to convert from .flv to .m4v automatically by using this tutorial and butchering their example applescript file, which normally converts ChemDraw files (.cdx, .cml, .mol) to .tiff, so that it instead uses Quicktime to save the .flv files as .m4v. When I try to use it, though, I get an error "QuickTime Player got an error: document 1 doesn't understand the save message". My save message is currently: save first document in target_path as ".m4v" which looks like the QuickTime dictionary's instructions: save specifier : The document(s) or window(s) to save. [as saveable file format] : The file format to use. I've also tried "m4v", without the period, and still get the error. Is my Save direction wrong, or is it probably an error from trying to use Quicktime instead of the original ChemDraw? I tried to change references to .cdx, .cml, .mol, .tiff, and ChemDraw to .flv, .m4v, and QuickTime respectively, but maybe it's more complicated than that?

    I asked a version of this question earlier, but I'm in need of other solutions, so this is a more pointed question. I'm in need of a server-based solution for converting ppt files to pdf files. This solution can either sit on the current web server as a console command-triggered service, it can be integrated into the C# code of the web all, or it can be it's own server. It also can't be based off of Libreoffice or Openoffice, as those two have problems converting SmartArt. I'm currently using Libreoffice. I've tried Powerpoint console commands combined with a PDF driver but I can't get that to work from C#. I've tried a .vbs script, but that briefly opens the powerpoint window.

    I have a piece of data that I am receiving in hexadecimal string format, example: "65E0C8DEB69EA114567954". It was made this way in C# by converting a byte array to a hexadecimal string. However, I am using PHP to read this string and need to temporarily convert this back to the byte array. If it matters, I will be decrypting this byte array, then reconverting it to unencrypted hexadecimal and or plaintext, but I will figure that out later. So the question is, how do I convert a string like the above back to an encoded byte array/ blob in PHP? Thanks!

  • Convert NSMutableArray to string and back

    Hello, in my current project I'm facing the following problem: The app needs to exchange data with my server, which are stored inside a NSMutableArray on the iPhone. The array holds NSString, NSData and CGPoint values. Now, I thought the easiest way to achieve this, was to convert the array into a properly formatted string, send it to my server and store it inside some mySQL database. At this point I'd like to request my data from my server, receive the string, which represents contents of my array and then actually convert it back into a NSMutablArray. So far, I tried something like this: NSString *myArrayString = [myArray description]; Now I send this string to my server and store it inside my mySQL database. That part works really well. However, when I receive the string from my server, I have trouble converting it back into a NSMutableArray. Is there a method, which can easily convert array description back into an array? Unfortunately I couldn't find anything on that so far. Maybe my way of "serializing" the array is wrong right from the start and there is a smarter way to do this. Any help appreciated.   • Converting AVI to FLV in highest quality

    I want to convert some of the AVI files I recorded (presentations) to FLV so I can host them on a website and offer them to my visitors. I have done this sort of thing before but the quality they came out as would not be good enough for what I plan on doing here. So does anyone have a link to a guide or any experience they can offer in converting AVI to FLV with minimal quality loss? A lot of my presentations are 720p aswell, so I'd want to keep the aspect ratio the same as the source video. Thanks in advance.

    I am trying to mirror a fairly large site (20,000+ pages) prior to a major overhaul. Basically, I need a backup before cutting over to the new one in case we forgot something we need (we'll have about 1,000 pages at launch). The site is run on a CMS that I cannot easily extract usable data from, so I'm trying to make the copy with wget. My problem is that wget does not appear to be actually converting links, despite the presence of --convert-links or -k in the command. I've tried a couple of different combinations of flags, but I haven't been able to get the output I need. Most recent failed attempt was: nohup wget --mirror -k -l10 -PafscSnapshot --html-extension -R *calendar* -o wget.log http://www.example.org & I've also included the --backup-converted, and --convert-links instead of -k (not that it have mattered). I've done it with and without -P and -l, again no that they should matter. Results in files that still have links like: http://www.example.org//ht/d/sp/i/17770

  • Converting date format in formulas in Excel

    I have a column of dates in the following format ddd mmm dd hh m:s "EST" yyyy. In another cell in another sheet, I wish to have the dates in the format dd/m/y. How can I do this? I already tried the DATEVALUE function. Seeing as the positions are fixed, I started using the RIGHT and MID functions to extract components to put into the DATE function. Unfortunately, I don't know of a way of converting the three letter string to a month without writing a huge if block. UPDATE: I managed to convert the string using MONTH(1&THREE_LETTER_DATE). I am still curious if there is a better solution though

    Has anyone tried converting a LCD laptop monitor (17" full HD in this instance) to a stand-alone monitor? Are there any converters that one can buy to send DVI or VGA signals to the plug that is used to connect said LCD to the laptop motherboard? My laptop is the infamous Dell Inspiron 9400 (1705) model. They can have awesome monitors but if you check out ebay, there are many there for sale for little to nothing since the graphic cards fault unsually often in those machines. I'd like to be able to use the LCD and just scrap the rest.

    I need some help converting a .bat executable file that I run on our PC at my job so that it works on a mac. Before we upload tar files to our website we run this script which to the best of my knowledge simply unlocks all of the permissions to the tar and all the images within. If someone could help me in "translating" it to run on my Mac that would be awesome!   • Converting PDF eBooks into a Kindle format

    Over the past couple of years I've amassed quite a collection of guides, tutorials and ebooks in PDF format. A lot of these are quite useful for work, especially PDF documentation, and rather than have to be at a computer every time I want to read how to do something in Sitecore or to read through a software testing ebook I'd like to do it on my brand-spanking-new Kindle. However, even though there is now a native PDF reader on the Kindle due to the nature of PDF's they are practically unreadable. The text doesn't wrap due to how PDF's are sized and so far after a bunch of Google searches I've yet to find a viable solution to get my PDF's converted into a readable Kindle format. Sometimes these books have code or pictures/tables in them, but most of the time they're text-heavy and to be honest I'd be surprised if there wasn't a free tool to handle the converting of PDF to one of the (seemingly many) Kindle formats. So, can anyone help me out with this?

    Are there any benefits of converting HDDs that are running NTFS on a Linux machine to ZFS? Is there a way to do such conversion in Linux without losing the data? What about the stability of ZFS on Linux, does FUSE really work well in this case? People say that the only way to get the real full ZFS support is to install Solaris. I understand that the best choice for Linux would be ext4, but I really havent found a way how to convert to ext4 from NTFS without sacrificing all the data. On the other hand I have doubts whether changing from NTFS to ZFS while using Linux is really wise. Thanks for any tips.

  • One hard drive missing after converting from ide to ahci

    I have two 500GB SATA HDD in my desktop running XP. After converting from IDE to AHCI, the HDD I use to store data can no longer be accessed from XP. It shows only the first partition as 150GB, and data type is listed as RAW. However, if I boot into a live linux environment or if I pull that HDD out and connect it using USB, I can still get to all my files again. So I completely formatted the HDD into one single partition. But XP still does not recognize it. It still shows the disk as the 150GB partition and data type is still RAW. What's going on and how do I fix this? Thanks in advance.

  • Bad results converting PDF to EPS on Linux

    I'm having some trouble converting PDFs (created by Adobe Illustrator on a Mac) to EPS. I have tried several things but I am wondering if there is a better option. The following list is ordered by decreasing quality: inkscape --export-area-page --export-eps=out.eps in.pdf using the graphical program Inkscape works best, but is a bit slow; pdftops -eps in.pdf out.eps uses Poppler and works good and is fast; pdf2ps in.pdf out.eps uses ghostscript and works ok for simple documents; convert in.pdf out.eps uses ImageMagick and always rasterizes the image. I haven't tested the following: acroread -toPostScript use acroread (Linux only) Some issues I've found: Transparency is not supported in EPS, but instead of flattening the layers, most programs rasterize the image producing big files and ugly graphs. Inkscape does this best by only rasterizing the unsupported area. Gradients are rendered properly by Inkscape, but Poppler somehow chops up the gradient into many shapes of different colors. Greek symbols are seemingly not supported by Ghostscript and are rasterized (using pdf2ps). What are your experiences for this kind of task? Did I forgot certain programs and/or command line options that improve quality? I found some posts on this, but not a (thorough) comparison of possibilities, please correct me if I'm wrong. EDIT: I've tried Calibre, and have checked their forums to play with some of the advanced settings, yet the solutions available seem to be extremely poor, especially if the book you're attempting to read contains equations, code, or anything outside of plain text. I've also tried Amazon's conversion service, which wasn't much help with such documents. The best way I have found so far is to build the entire thing over again in ePub or RTF format and convert to MOBI from there. This works for text-heavy books with tables, but anything technical still isn't covered. Can anyone help with this?

  • Converting a Windows 2003 server

    We have a legacy database system based upon MS SQL running on Windows Server 2003. The client software will only run on Windows XP. We have recently had success converting a client into a virtual machine and running it under Fusion on Mac minis. So far, it is working incredibly well. So well, in fact, that we are now considering trying to convert the server to a virtual machine. This raises several questions, though: 1. The server uses a raid array. Does the VM virtualize the raid array? I only ask because in my experience Windows products don't like it when you change core hardware. 2. Is there any reason why running SQL server on a virtual machine won't work? It will be up 24/7. 3. Is there a different converter for servers? 4. Will I have to track down the licensing for MS SQL and Server 2003 or will they come across ok? 5. The company that designed the software is no longer in business. There is some fear that the software is somehow tied to the hardware configuration. We bought the hardware, but their engineers came out and configured the system. Will the virtual machine be able to spoof particular chip sets? Thanks! Jim Bass

    Recently I have been tasked with the daunting process of converting a setup of HVM enabled VMs (running on Citrix XenServer 5.6.0) into PV (paravirtualised) containers. The constraints of the project was that: The operating system must be functionally identical after the migration. minimal modification to the operating system (with exception of kernel / drive mapping) I also was allowed to change the bootloader(ie, grub) in what ever way I see fit. However, I have attempted this, I will firstly like to show you my steps I took. This at the moment is CentOS5.5 specific: Steps: yum install kernel-xen This installed: 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen edited: /boot/grub/menu.lst changed my specs to match: title CentOS (2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen) root (hd0,0) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 console=xvc0 initrd /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img Then I changed my xenserver parameters to match: xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader-args="--kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen --ramdisk /initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] HVM-boot-policy="" xe vm-param-set uuid=[vm uuid] PV-bootloader=pygrub xe vbd-param-set uuid==[Virtual Block Device/VBD uuid] bootable=true Some things to note, I am running a VolGroup LVM ;) Anyways, after all these steps (which aren't much!) I boot the VM and it boots initial kernel just fine, however I am presented with this error: Boot Screen: device-mapper: dm-raid45: initialized v0.2594l Waiting for driver initialization. Scanning and configuring dmraid supported devices Scanning logical volumes Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while... Activating logical volumes Volume group "VolGroup00" not found Creating root device. Mounting root filesystem. mount: could not find filesystem '/dev/root' Setting up other filesystems. Setting up new root fs setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory no fstab.sys, mounting internal defaults setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mounting /sys: No such file or directory Switching to new root and running init. unmounting old /dev unmounting old /proc unmounting old /sys switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory Now my hints are that it cannot detect / because of the fact that when you change from HVM mode to PV it does something (not that obvious) When you make a SR (storage) on a HVM, you get it mounted to the guest os as /dev/hda. However in PV mode, this presents itself as /dev/xvda... Could this be the answer? and if so, how the heck to I implement it?? Update: So I have gotten a bit further in my quest, as it now detects the LVM's... To do this, I required to recompile the xen-kernel initrd image. Command: mkinitrd -v --builtin=xen_vbd --preload=xenblk initrd-2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen.img 2.6.18-194.32.1.el5xen Now when I boot I get this: Boot Screen: Loading dm-raid45.ko module device-mapper: dm-raid45: initialized v0.2594l Scanning and configuring dmraid supported devices Scanning logical volumes Reading all physical volumes.     Hello, I'm looking for help to convert an ASCII MD5 hashed password into a Unicode MD5 hashed password? For example, I'll use the string "password" . When it's converted to an ascii byte array, I get a base64 encoded hash of X03MO1qnZdYdgyfeuILPmQ== When it's converted into a unicode byte array, I get a base64 encoded hash of sIHb6F4ew//D1OfQInQAzQ== All my passwords are stored in an md5 hash that was applied to an ascii byte array, but I'm trying to migrate my application's user data to a system that stores password in an md5 hash that is applied a unicode byte array. In case it's not clear, with the following C#code: var passwordBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("password"); var hashAlgorithm = HashAlgorithm.Create("MD5"); var hashBytes = hashAlgorithm.ComputeHash(passwordBytes); My current system uses this, but the system I'm moving to has a diff first time. It usese Encoding.Unicode.GetBytes. Does anybody know how I can convert my passwords? From X03MO1qnZdYdgyfeuILPmQ== into sIHb6F4ew//D1OfQInQAzQ== I'm guessing the answer is that I can't.. the encoding is being done before the hashing, but I thought I'd inquire the bright minds of stackoverflow and see if anybody has a way.

    Hi all, I've a problem: my application must convert ms word documents (imported from another system) into rtf documents, in order to be manipulated with OOo APIs and to be immune from mistakes (for coding incompatibility reasons). I ask you: how can I manipulate ms word documents directly from my Java application? There are APIs (like POI or OOo) that allow me to do my work without any coding incompatibility?
