  • Norton Ghost EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available

    After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem.   • Replacing a W2K3 Domain Controller - what do I need to know?

    I have a network of around 70 machines, currently with two DCs both running Windows Server 2003 (DC0 & DC1). DC0 is a five year old Poweredge 1850 and has recently become increasingly flakey, and in the past fortnight has fallen over twice. I want to replace this machine, but I'm cautious as there is huge scope for this sort of thing to go wrong. The way I imagine doing this is building a new machine then doing a DCPROMO and running three domain controllers for a month or so until I'm happy that everything is working as it should be before retiring the old machine. Particular areas of concern are the replication of roles from the current controllers (GP settings for instance) and the ramifications of switching off the machine that has, up until now, been the 'primary'. If there are compelling reasons to use Server 2008 I'm willing to do so, however I don't know if this would cause problems with my exisiting 2003 machines. Any advice on best practice or previous experiences would be most welcome.

  • File associations not present in Microsoft Office 2010

    The error when trying to open MS Office is that there is no file association & another error when trying to open individual progs is - side bt side configuration is incorrect. The suite has been working perfectly until last week ( no significant changes to system ) I have tried downloading the VC++ & uninstalled & reinstalled twice, even deleted the registry entry for office 2010 before reinstall but have had no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • VPN - Accessing computer outside of network. Only works one way

    I could use some help here. My ideal goal is to create a VPN for 2 macs that are in different locations so that they can share each others screens and share files. I basically want to do what Logmein's Hamachi does, but without the 5 user limitation. I have set up the VPN on my Synology NAS at my house using the PPTP protocol. I could also use OpenVPN. The good news is that I can use a laptop outside of my home network to access any computer on my network at my house. The bad news is that I can not do the reverse. I want to use a computer in my home network (same network as the VPN server) to access a computer outside of my network (which is connected via VPN successfully). My internal IP is 192.168.1.xxx PPTP VPN assigns my laptop that is outside of my network with 192.168.5.xxx, but when I try to access it remotely either with afp://192.168.5.xxx or vnc://192.168.5.xxx I can't connect using either. Is this something that I should be able to do or is VPN only one way? I've also tried openvpn with the same results. Thanks for any help! -Dan

  • Why do my download speeds drastically vary during a download?

    I watch the download speed rise and fall like waves in a storm. At night, during low bandwidth usage I have achieve speeds as high as 3.23 M/sec but the watch them decline to 250 K/sec. and then climb back up. Over and over. During the day my best is around 1.67 M/sec with lows into the 65 K/sec. On top of this, why does a download need to slow down when approaching the end of the download? It's not like a multi-hundred ton train needing to decrease speed as it approaches the station.

  • Samsung S23A750D 23" 120Hz get no signal

    I have a few days ago received this monitor. Samsung S23A750D 23" 120Hz I am using it with a Gainward Nvidia GTX570 Phantom GPU via DisplayPort cabling. The trouble I am having is that the monitor has great trouble picking up a signal from the GPU when the computer has gone into sleep mode or been switched off (at this point I can get a signal to the monitor). It's only when I turn the computer back on and then the monitor that I get no signal. To get a signal I have to remove the power cable and put back in or sometimes remove the DP cable and put back in. I have tried not turning the monitor off (the monitor goes into a sleep mode when the computer goes into sleep mode) but on putting the computer on it does not pick up a signal. It is only by removing the power cable and/or DisplayPort cable will I get a signal. And this is intermittent. I have tried upgrading the firmware from Samsung but this hasn't helped. Any ideas?

    Hi I am trying to use a DVI splitter so I can use either my pc monitor or my TV which is close to the pc, Both monitors work fine if the splitter is connected after the pc has booted up, But if the pc is re booted both the monitors show a blank screen after saying there is no signal. I have been told it could be because the monitors are working on different resolutions is this the case, If so how can I cure the problem without having to keep changing the res on TV monitor

  • Cross-match a number of worksheets to one master worksheet

    Hopefully the title is not too confusing. Basically, I have a master list of addresses and those addresses are listed in multiple columns (Column A - street number, Column B - street name, Column C - street type etc) and I get a another set of addresses on a daily basis with the same address formatting. What I need to do is cross-match the daily changing list of addresses to the first list to remove any matching entries. So, for example, if the first list has 123 Main St on it, I have to ensure that there are no entries of 123 Main St on any subsequent daily lists. I'm using one address as an example but the lists contain upwards of 10000 addresses that have to be cross matched. I don't need them flagged or highlighted, just deleted from the daily lists (though if they have to be flagged or highlighted, I could work with that) Any help here would be much appreciated.

  • IOUC Summit: Open Arms and Cheese Shoes

    Last week's International Oracle User Group Committee (IOUC) Summit at Oracle HQ was a high point of the past year, for a number of reasons: A "quorum" of Java User Group leaders, several Java Champions among them, were in attendance (Bert Breeman, Stephan Janssen, Dan Sline, Stephen Chin, Bruno Souza, Van Riper, and others), and it was great to get face time with them. Their guidance and advice about JavaOne and other things are always much appreciated. Mix in some Oracle ACE Directors (Debra Lilley, Dan Morgan, Sten Vesterli, and others), and you really have the making of a dynamic group. Stephan describes it best: "We (the JUG Leaders) discovered that behind the more formal dress code the ACE directors are actually as crazy as we are." (See link below for more.)   • DateTimePicker not updating dataset

    I'm binding a DateTimePicker control to my dataset (which is linked to a database). However, unless the user changes the date on that control, the dataset seems to contain null for that entry (even though the Value entry of the control isn't null). I've done a bit of googling, and there's a lot of talk about people having troubles with the DateTimePicker not supporting null values. However, I DON'T want it to support a NULL value. The column in my database table is set to "NOT NULL". It's as if the dataset isn't updating itself from the DateTimePicker control unless the user changes the date. I've tried explicitly setting the date for the control in code (using DateTimePicker.Value = DateTime.Now). This still doesn't update the dataset side. Thankyou for any help, Dan.

    I was wondering how people deal with graph theory in python? How is a graph stored? Are there libraries for this? For example how would I input a graph and then find its Chromatic polynomial? Or its girth? Or the number of unique spanning trees? How about problems that involve edge weight like salesman problems?   • Eclipse thinks there are problems with my Android project...

    I have an Android project and Eclipse is telling me my project has an error with its build path. Specifically, the problem view shows "The project cannot be built until build path errors are resolved". The entire project builds just fine, meaning there are no red X's on any of the files. I can build the project outside of Eclipse, deploy it to the device, and it runs just fine, so I know there isn't a problem with my source code or layouts. The strange thing is when I remove the 'src' folder from the build path in Eclipse, clean and build the project, then re-add the 'src' folder to the build path and build the project it works again. However, within a few changes it gives me the same problem. Has anyone else encountered this before? Does anyone know of a solution? It's driving me mad! Thanks, -Dan

  • Use sed to replace first 8 and last 4 pipes on every line in a file

    Here's the situation, I have a text file that is pipe-delimited and one of fields contains pipe characters. I already have a sed script that will change it to be tab-delimited, but the problem is it's terribly slow. It will replace the first occurrence of a pipe 8 times, then replace the last occurrence of a pipe 4 times. I'm hoping there's a quicker way to do what I need. Any thoughts would be appreciated.   • Include params/request information in Rails logger?

    Hi everyone, I'm trying to get some more information into my Rails logs, specifically the requested URI or current params, if available (and I appreciate that they won't always be). However I just don't seem able to. Here's what I've done so far: #config/environments/production.rb config.logger = Logger.new(config.log_path) config.log_level = :error config.logger.level = Logger::ERROR #config/environment.rb class Logger def format_message(level, time, progname, msg) "**********************************************************************\n#{level} #{time.to_s(:db)} -- #{msg}\n" end end So I can customize the message fine, yet I don't seem to be able to access the params/request variables here.     Hi, I have been looking into communication methods between two iPhone devices and as I understand it there are two main methods to do this: Bluetooth and WiFi. However I wanted to know if anyone knows of any other way of sharing information between two iPhones? If I were in an area with no WiFi or mobile signal, and couldn't use Bluetooth for whatever reason, is there anything that could be done to broadcast data from one iPhone to another? I'm sure its a bit of a silly question, but if you don't ask, you don't get; and if someone knows of anything I might be able to look into with regards to this, I would be very appreciative.     In my PHP code I've got references to a URL on another website. I'm testing my website locally (using XAMPP). Is it possible to get Apache to automatically replace the domain of this other website for localhost? For example my PHP code might be: <?php echo "<a href='http://www.othersite.com'>Click me</a>"; ?> And I'd like for my local Apache to alias this to <?php echo "<a href='http://localhost'>Click me</a>"; ?> Is this possible?     I'm having an issue opening files that have recently been closed by the .Net framework. Basically, what happens is the following: -Read in an XML file using DataSet.ReadXml() -Make some changes to the data -Write out the XML file using DataSet.WriteXml() -Copy the XML file to a new location using File.Copy -FTP the file using a custom control This sequence can intermittently fail either after the WriteXML or the File.Copy with a file in use exception. I'm guessing it could be the Windows write cache not flushing right away. Can anyone confirm that this could be causing my issue? Any solutions to suggest? Thanks, Dan
