  • Munin Aggregated Graphs Configuration Error

    - by Sparsh Gupta
I tried making some Munin Aggregated graphs but somehow I am unable to make the configuration work. I think I have followed the instructions but since its not working, I would love some assistance or guidance as to what I am doing wrong. I want to Aggregate (sum) the total number of requests / second all my nginx servers are doing combined together. The configuration looks like [TRAFFIC.AGGREGATED] update no requests.graph_title nGinx requests requests.graph_vlabel nGinx requests per second requests.draw LINE2 requests.graph_args --base 1000 requests.graph_category nginx requests.label req/sec requests.type DERIVE requests.min 0 requests.graph_order output requests.output.sum \ lb1.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com:nginx_request_lb1.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com_request.request \ lb3.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com:nginx_request_lb2.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com_request.request \ lb3.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com:nginx_request_lb3.visualwebsiteoptimizer.com_request.request The munin graph I want to aggregate is http://exchange.munin-monitoring.org/plugins/nginx_request/details Thanks Sparsh Gupta

  • Interpreting Munin graphs showing available entropy and MySQL slow queries in sync

    - by user64204
We're experiencing performance issues on our website, and after reviewing our munin graphs, the only metrics we've found in sync are Available entropy and MySQL slow queries, with the latter influenced by our number of logged in users: Based on the wikipedia entropy page, my understanding is that entropy is the amount of randomness (here measured in bytes) that the system can use for various tasks, mainly cryptography and functions that require random input. Since the peaks in available entropy and MySQL slow queries are occurring in sync and at regular interval, that the number of MySQL slow queries is proportional to our number of Drupal users whereas the peaks in available entropy seem to be much more constant and less proportional to these 2 metrics, we're thinking available entropy is the reflect of a root cause which, combined with the traffic to our website, is causing those slow queries (and not the opposite, slow queries influencing the entropy). Accordingly: Q: What underlying problem do you think could cause regular peaks in available entropy that could have an influence on MySQL's ability to process queries?

  • Statsd, Graphite and graphs

    - by w00t
I've setup Graphite and statsd and both are running well. I'm using the example-client.py from graphite/examples to measure load values and it's OK. I started doing tests with statsd and at first it seemed ok because it generated some graphs but now it doesn't look quite well. First, this is my storage-schema.conf: pattern = .* retentions = 10:2160,60:10080,600:262974 I'm using this command to send data to statsd: echo 'ssh.invalid_users:1|c'| nc -w 1 -u localhost 8126 it executes, I click Update Graph in the Graphite web interface, it generates a line, hit again Update and the line disappears. If I execute the previous command 5 times, the graph line will reach 2 and it will actually save it. Again running the same command two times, graph line reaches 2 and disappears. I can't find what I have misconfigured. The intended use is this: tail -n 0 -f /var/log/auth.log|grep --line-buffered "Invalid user" | while read line; do echo "ssh.invalid_users:1|c" | nc -w 1 -u localhost 8126; done

  • Easily Plotting Multiple Data Series in Excel

    - by John
I really need help figuring out how to speed up graphing multiple series on a graph. I have seperate devices that give monthly readings for several variables like pressure, temperature, and salinity. Each of these variables is going to be its own graph with devices being the series. My x-axis is going to be the dates that these values were taken. The problem is that it takes ages to do this for each spreadsheet since I have monthly dates from 1950 up to the present and I have about 50 devices in each spreadsheet. I also have graphs for calculated values that are in columns next to them. Each of these devices is going to become a data series in the graph. E.g. In one of my graphs I have all the pressures from the devices and each of the data series' names is the name of the device. I want a fast way to do this. Doing this manually is taking a very long time. Please help! Is there any easier way to do this? It is consistent and the dates all line up. I am just repeating the same clicks over and over again Thank you!

  • Force-directed graphing

    - by David
Hello, I'm trying to write a force-directed or force-atlas code base for a graphing application I'm building for myself. Here is an example of what I'm attempting: http://sawamuland.com/flash/graph.html I managed to find some pseudo code to accomplish what I'd like on the Wiki Force-atlas article. I've converted this into ActionScript 3.0 code since it's a Flash application. Here is my source: var timestep:int = 0; var damping:int = 0; var total_kinetic_engery:int = 0; for (var node in list) { var net_force:int = 0; for (var other_node in list) { net_force += coulombRepulsion(node, other_node, nodeList); } for (var spring in list[node].relations) { net_force += hookeAttraction(node, spring, nodeList); } list[node].velocity += (timestep * net_force) * damping; list[node].position += timestep * list[node].velocity; total_kinetic_engery += list[node].mass * (list[node].velocity) ^ 2; } The problem now is finding pseudo code or a function to perform the the coulomb repulsion and hooke attraction code. I'm not exactly sure how to accomplish this. Does anyone know of a good reference I can look at...understand and implement quickly? Best.

  • How to get the data for intra-day candlestick charts for stocks on eg Nasdaq

    - by Chris
Hi, For a learning exercise, i'm wanting to create candlestick (stock) graphs for stocks using zedgraph. Now on google finance, i can get daily open-high-low-close data which is perfect for making these graphs, but i'm wanting to create intra-day graphs, eg open-high-low-close data for an hour (or 5 mins, or 1 min even). Is there any way to get that kind of data without having to subscribe to any expensive service? I've heard opentick mentioned in an old SO question, but their site is defunct now. I was thinking of polling google finance once a minute to get the latest stock price, then with an hour's worth of 60 prices, i could then roughly calculate the open-high-low-close, but this is a bit of an estimation and i'm open to other suggestions. Cheers all.

  • Open source libraries to design directed graphs

    - by Benjamin
Hi all, I'm going to need to write a software that takes a list of persons and connects them together in a directed-graph-like manner. The GUI aspect of the whole project is very important. The graph must allow a lot of interaction. Such as selecting several people and hiding the others, moving them around. Additionally, the software will need to be able to provide other kind of GUI-features such as several tabs, text boxes etc. The application must be quite performant. As in, it must be able to handle hundreds if not thousands of widgets. Hence, I would like to know which open source libraries (at this point the programming language they are written in does not matter - I just want an overview of everything good that is out there) would allow me to develop such piece of software? What would you recommend? Thanks for that. Edit: Could you please also link to tutorials explaining how I could program a GUI that can interact with the generated graph? For example mouse events.

  • drawing graphs in php

    - by user434885
    i am using php to generate graphs from arrays. I wish to create multiple graphs on the same page as i need to design a summary report from answers extracted from a database. Currently i am using this code and am only able to get one single graph. what additions to the code do i need to make to get multiple graphs? <?php function draw_graph($values) { // Get the total number of columns we are going to plot $columns = count($values); // Get the height and width of the final image $width = 300; $height = 200; // Set the amount of space between each column $padding = 5; // Get the width of 1 column $column_width = $width / $columns ; // Generate the image variables $im = imagecreate($width,$height); $gray = imagecolorallocate ($im,0xcc,0xcc,0xcc); $gray_lite = imagecolorallocate ($im,0xee,0xee,0xee); $gray_dark = imagecolorallocate ($im,0x7f,0x7f,0x7f); $white = imagecolorallocate ($im,0xff,0xff,0xff); // Fill in the background of the image imagefilledrectangle($im,0,0,$width,$height,$white); $maxv = 0; // Calculate the maximum value we are going to plot for($i=0;$i<$columns;$i++)$maxv = max($values[$i],$maxv); // Now plot each column for($i=0;$i<$columns;$i++) { $column_height = ($height / 100) * (( $values[$i] / $maxv) *100); $x1 = $i*$column_width; $y1 = $height-$column_height; $x2 = (($i+1)*$column_width)-$padding; $y2 = $height; imagefilledrectangle($im,$x1,$y1,$x2,$y2,$gray_dark); } header ("Content-type: image/png"); imagepng($im); imagedestroy($im); } $values = array("23","32","35","57","12"); $values2 = array("123","232","335","157","102"); draw_graph($values2); draw_graph($values);//no output is coming draw_graph($values2);//no output is coming draw_graph($values);//no output is coming ?>

  • Finding all the shortest paths between two nodes in unweighted directed graphs using BFS algorithm

    - by andra-isan
    Hi All, I am working on a problem that I need to find all the shortest path between two nodes in a given directed unweighted graph. I have used BFS algorithm to do the job, but unfortunately I can only print one shortest path not all of them, for example if they are 4 paths having lenght 3, my algorithm only prints the first one but I would like it to print all the four shortest paths. I was wondering in the following code, how should I change it so that all the shortest paths between two nodes could be printed out? class graphNode{ public: int id; string name; bool status; double weight;}; map<int, map<int,graphNode>* > graph; int Graph::BFS(graphNode &v, graphNode &w){ queue <int> q; map <int, int> map1; // this is to check if the node has been visited or not. std::string str= ""; map<int,int> inQ; // just to check that we do not insert the same iterm twice in the queue map <int, map<int, graphNode>* >::iterator pos; pos = graph.find(v.id); if(pos == graph.end()) { cout << v.id << " does not exists in the graph " <<endl; return 1; } int parents[graph.size()+1]; // this vector keeps track of the parents for the node parents[v.id] = -1; // there is a direct path between these two words, simply print that path as the shortest path if (findDirectEdge(v.id,w.id) == 1 ){ cout << " Shortest Path: " << v.id << " -> " << w.id << endl; return 1; } //if else{ int gn; map <int, map<int, graphNode>* >::iterator pos; q.push(v.id); inQ.insert(make_pair(v.id, v.id)); while (!q.empty()){ gn = q.front(); q.pop(); map<int, int>::iterator it; cout << " Popping: " << gn <<endl; map1.insert(make_pair(gn,gn)); //backtracing to print all the nodes if gn is the same as our target node such as w.id if (gn == w.id){ int current = w.id; cout << current << " - > "; while (current!=v.id){ current = parents[current]; cout << current << " -> "; } cout <<endl; } if ((pos = graph.find(gn)) == graph.end()) { cout << " pos is empty " <<endl; continue; } map<int, graphNode>* pn = pos->second; map<int, graphNode>::iterator p = pn->begin(); while(p != pn->end()) { map<int, int>::iterator it; //map1 keeps track of the visited nodes it = map1.find(p->first); graphNode gn1= p->second; if (it== map1.end()) { map<int, int>::iterator it1; //if the node already exits in the inQ, we do not insert it twice it1 = inQ.find(p->first); if (it1== inQ.end()){ parents[p->first] = gn; cout << " inserting " << p->first << " into the queue " <<endl; q.push(p->first); // add it to the queue } //if } //if p++; } //while } //while } I do appreciate all your great help Thanks, Andra

  • Perl Catalyst -- Is this helpful to use for images/graphs display

    - by Octopus
I have simple perl/cgi scripts based web server which is mainly used to display graphs and Images. I am looking to make it more technical and come to know about Catalyst. I have installed all the required perl modules on my test platform and created an application called myweb. Also, I am going through the catalyst documents to reach my goal but nothing helpful yet. Is Catalyst helpful to display images/graphs on web? How to use my existing cgi/perl scritps with Catalyst? Any example would be really appreciated.

  • Storing parameters from a graph and applying to other graphs

    - by Braden
I would like to store the xmin and xmax parameters from one geom_histogram and apply them to a second geom_histogram. I am putting both graphs on the same page using grid.arrange and would like them to have the same x range, while allowing the first graph to establish the range based on its data. The second graph is produced from a subset of the first graphs data, so it will not have data that falls outside of the x-range established by the first. But I don't want the range to shrink to fit the second graph.

  • Excel graph: turn stacked bar chart into part bullet chart

    - by Mike
I've a simple data file that has one column of actuals and another of target against categories. I would like to turn the TARGET figure into a 'Bullet marker'. I've seen it done on other graphs but I'm struggling with the category column being overwritten with the xy axis values. Or if I get close to doing it then the xy markers are not central. I've checked out Peltier but his examples are based on even more comlicated data than mine, so the steps required didn't seem to match up. Help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike. Example Data: Cat Actual target A 10 15 B 10 12 C 20 17

  • Excel 2010: How to color the area between charts?

    - by Quasdunk
Hello, I asked this question already on stackoverflow but it hasn't been answered yet. Instead I was advised to try it here, so here I go :) So there's that simple XY-Line-Chart in Excel (2010). It is surrounded by two other graphs which are parallel but offset by the same factor in both the positive and negative direction - something like this: ---------------- (positively offset parallel graph) ---------------- (main graph) ---------------- (negatively offset parallel graph) Now I want to color the space between the main graph and the offset ones, but I just can't seem to find a way! Is it maybe possible with VBA? Or is there maybe a solution for Excel 2007?

  • Merging similar graphs based solely on the graph structure?

    - by Buttons840
I am looking for (or attempting to design) a technique for matching nodes from very similar graphs based on the structure of the graph*. In the examples below, the top graph has 5 nodes, and the bottom graph has 6 nodes. I would like to match the nodes from the top graph to the nodes in the bottom graph, such that the "0" nodes match, and the "1" nodes match, etc. This seems logically possible, because I can do it in my head for these simple examples. Now I just need to express my intuition in code. Are there any established algorithms or patterns I might consider? (* When I say based on the structure of the graph, I mean the solution shouldn't depend on the node labels; the numeric labels on the nodes are only for demonstration.) I'm also interested in the performance of any potential solutions. How well will they scale? Could I merge graphs with millions of nodes? In more complex cases, I recognize that the best solution may be subject to interpretation. Still, I'm hoping for a "good" way to merge complex graphs. (These are directed graphs; the thicker portion of an edge represents the head.)

  • algorithm to use to return a specific range of nodes in a directed graph

    - by GatesReign
I have a class Graph with two lists types namely nodes and edges I have a function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range) when I get these parameters I need an algorithm that will go through the graph and return the list of nodes only as deep (the level) as the range. The algorithm should be able to accommodate large number of nodes and large ranges. Atop this, should I use a similar function List<int> GetNodesInRange(Graph graph, int Range, int selected) I want to be able to search outwards from it, to the number of nodes outwards (range) specified. So in the first function, I expect it to return the nodes placed in the blue box. The other function, if I pass the nodes as in the graph with a range of 1 and it starts at node 5, I want it to return the list of nodes that satisfy this criteria (placed in the orange box)

  • Searching in graphs trees with Depth/Breadth first/A* algorithms

    - by devoured elysium
I have a couple of questions about searching in graphs/trees: Let's assume I have an empty chess board and I want to move a pawn around from point A to B. A. When using depth first search or breadth first search must we use open and closed lists ? This is, a list that has all the elements to check, and other with all other elements that were already checked? Is it even possible to do it without having those lists? What about A*, does it need it? B. When using lists, after having found a solution, how can you get the sequence of states from A to B? I assume when you have items in the open and closed list, instead of just having the (x, y) states, you have an "extended state" formed with (x, y, parent_of_this_node) ? C. State A has 4 possible moves (right, left, up, down). If I do as first move left, should I let it in the next state come back to the original state? This, is, do the "right" move? If not, must I transverse the search tree every time to check which states I've been to? D. When I see a state in the tree where I've already been, should I just ignore it, as I know it's a dead end? I guess to do this I'd have to always keep the list of visited states, right? E. Is there any difference between search trees and graphs? Are they just different ways to look at the same thing?

  • Seperating two graphs based on connectivity and coordinates

    - by martin
I would like to separate existing data of vertices and edges into two or more graphs that are not connected. I would like to give the following as example: Imagine two hexagons on top of each other but are lying in different Z. Hexagon 1 has the following vertices A(0,0,1), B(1,0,2), C(2,1,2), D(1,2,1), E(0,2,1), F(-1,2,1). The connectivity is as following: A-B, B-C, C-D, D-E, E-F, F-A. This part of Graph 1 as all the vertices are connected in this layer. Hexagon2 has the following vertices A1(0,0,6), B1(1,0,7), C1(2,1,7), D1(1,2,8), E1(0,2,7), F1(-1,2,6). The connectivity is as following: A1-B1, B1-C1, C1-D1, D1-E1, E1-F1, F1-A1. This is part of Graph 2 My data is in the following form: list of Vertices and list of Edges that i can form graphs with. I would like to eliminate graph 2 and give only vertices and connectivity of graph 1 to polygon determination part of my algorithm. My real data contains around 1000 connected polygons as graph 1 and around 100 (much larger in area) polygons as graph 2. I would like to eliminate graph 2. I am programming this in python. Thanks in advance.

  • Munin Aggregate Graphs from several servers

    - by Sparsh Gupta
I am using DNS round robin load balancing and have divided my total traffic onto multiple servers. Each server does around 300-400req/second but I am interested in having an aggregate graph telling me the TOTAL of all requests per second served by our architecture. Is there any way I can do this. Right now each graph in Munin comes as a separate graph as they depict things on one server. I am using configuration as follow which doesn't work doesnt work for me, does this configuration got errors? When I add a linear trend line to the graph, the line is not linear but appears like a curve. How can I make a linear trend line on a logarithmic-scaled chart?
