Why do game engines convert models to triangles compared to keeping it as four side polygon

I've worked using maya for animation and more film orientated projects however I am also focusing on my studies on video game development (eventually want to be either programmer or some sort of TD with programming and 3D skills). Anyways, I was talking with one of my professor and we couldn't figure out why all game engines (that I know of) convert to triangles. Anyone happen to know why game engines convert to triangles compared to leaving the models as four sided polygons? Also what are the pros and cons (if any) of doing this? Thanks in advance.

Name typing in the "TO" line for last name recognition

I have outlook 2010 on a Windows 7 laptop. When I go to send an email at the "TO" line and I start typing the name, if I start to enter the last name it will not recognize anyone in my contacts and will not auto-populate a list of all the names that fit the description of what I have typed so far. But if I start typing the first name first it will start this auto-choice feature based on what I have typed so far. The company I work for has 20k + employees and If I want to email someone like "Michael Hutch " if I type "Michael" it still gives me like 800 names to chose from. My old laptop that had 2003 Outlook on it, had this functionality. Is there a way to enable this in Outlook 2010?

Site name questions [closed]

I'm creating a website on German cars. No issues with it, since it's basically a PHP site, and let's say for the sake of argument, there are no server issues. However, I plan to call it "autohaus" (well, for the sake of this scenario anyway, it's not its actual name) The site is not for commercial gain; it's a fansite. Legally, can I use a name for a website if it's a commonly-used one - "autohaus" appears to be this. There are other sites called "Autohaus" but could someone use a similar name for non-commercial, information/educational use? Basically, what's the copyright law for such a situation? Currently my site is only on localhost for now, but what if I did want to release it to the web? Obviously the legal issues have to be taken into account before the site goes live, but there's no Data Protection Act. etc. since it's not selling anything, and no-one's buying anything, and the pictures in it are being used educationally (but that's for another question entirely)] [NOTE: This question is on trademark/names etc. not domains]

How to set up an SSL Cert with Subject Alternative Name

To test a specific embedded client, I need to set up a web server serving a couple of SSL (HTTPS) sites, say "main.mysite.com" and "alternate.mysite.com". These should be handled by the same certificate, with a Subject Name of "main.mysite.com" and a Subject Alternative Name of "alternate.mysite.com". This certificate needs to be in an authority chain back to a 'proper' CA (such as GoDaddy, to keep the cost down). My question is, are there any good tutorials on how to do this, or can someone explain the process? What sort of parent certificate do I need to purchase from the CA provider? My understanding of SSL certificates is limited, but as Manuel said in Fawlty Towers, "I learn...". I'm happy to work in Windows (IIS) or Linux (Apache) (or even OSX, for that matter). Why does Excel now give me already existing name range error on Copy Sheet?

I've been working on a Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheet for several days. I'm working from a master template like sheet and copying it to a new sheet repeatedly. Up until today, this was happening with no issues. However, in the middle of today this suddenly changed and I do not know why. Now, whenever I try to copy a worksheet I get about ten dialogs, each one with a different name range object (shown below as 'XXXX') and I click yes for each one: A formula or sheet you want to move or copy contains the name 'XXXX', which already exists on the destination worksheet. Do you want to use this version of the name? To use the name as defined in destination sheet, click Yes. To rename the range referred to in the formula or worksheet, click No, and enter a new name in the Name Conflict dialog box. The name range objects refer to cells in the sheet. For example, E6 is called name range PRE on multiple sheets (and has been all along) and some of the formulas refer to PRE instead of $E$6. One of the 'XXXX' above is this PRE. These name ranges should only be resolved within the sheet within which they appear. This was not an issue before despite the same name range existing on multiple sheets before. I want to keep my name ranges. What could have changed in my spreadsheet to cause this change in behavior? I've gone back to prior sheets created this way and now they give the message too when copied. I tried a different computer and a different user and the same behavior is seen everywhere. I can only conclude something in the spreadsheet has changed. What could this be and how can I get back the old behavior whereby I can copy sheets with name ranges and not get any errors? Looking in the Name Manager I see that the name ranges being complained about show twice, once as scope Template and again as scope Workbook. If I delete the scope Template ones the error goes away on copy however, I get a bunch of #REF errors. If I delete the scope Workbook ones, all seems okay and the errors on copy go away too, so perhaps this is the answer, but I'm nervous about what effect this deletion will have and wonder how the Workbook ones came into existence in the first place. Will it be safe to just delete the Workbook name manager scoped entries and how might these have come into existence without my knowing it to begin with?

Test a simple multi-player (upto four players) Android game in single developer machine

I'm working on a multi-player Android game (very simple it is that it doesn't have any game-engine used). The game is based on Java Socket. Four devices will connect the game server and a new thread will manage their session. The game server will server many such sessions (having 4 players each). What I'm worried about is the testing of this game. I know it is possible to run multiple android emulators, but my development laptop is very limited in capabilities (3 GB RAM, 2 Ghz Intel Core2Duo and on-board Graphics). And I'm already using Ubuntu to develop the game so that I have more user memory available than I'd have with Windows. Hence, the laptop will burn-to-death on running 4 emulator instances. I don't have access to any android device, neither I have another machine with higher configuration. And I still have to develop and test this game. P.S. : I'm a CS student, and currently don't work anywhere, and this game is college project, so if there are any paid solutions, I cannot afford it. What can I do to test the app seamlessly? ability to test even only 4 clients (i.e. only 1 session) would suffice, its alright if I can't simulate real environment with some 10-20 active game sessions (having 4 players each).

Why is my display name in Ubuntu Software Center some weird set of letters?

In USC, after I submit a review, my display name is "Bnxdcty"... a swell name, but where did it come from? I have checked the ubuntu single sign on page, verified my nickname on there, changed it to something else and back again for good measure, but still my reviewer name is somehow still "Bnxdcty". I even unauthorized ubuntu software center and then re-opened it/authorized it to my account. Does this just appear as this to me and others see my correct user nickname? It doesn't bother as much as it confuses me. I just know it will be something stupid that everyone knows but me.

How to set up dynamically Part in MultipartRequestEntity

Hello, I'm using commons-httpclient-3.1 inside my android application. And I would like to know if it possible to manipulate Part (org.apache.commons.httpclient.methods.multipart.Part) dynamically? Essentially adding new FilePart and new StringPart at runtime before sending the request. Every example I've found until now suppose that you know how many fields you are dealing with. Clustered index - multi-part vs single-part index and effects of inserts/deletes

This question is about what happens with the reorganizing of data in a clustered index when an insert is done. I assume that it should be more expensive to do inserts on a table which has a clustered index than one that does not because reorganizing the data in a clustered index involves changing the physical layout of the data on the disk. I'm not sure how to phrase my question except through an example I came across at work. Assume there is a table (Junk) and there are two queries that are done on the table, the first query searches by Name and the second query searches by Name and Something. As I'm working on the database I discovered that the table has been created with two indexes, one to support each query, like so: --drop table Junk1 CREATE TABLE Junk1 ( Name char(5), Something char(5), WhoCares int ) CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name ON Junk1 ( Name ) CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name_Something ON Junk1 ( Name, Something ) Now when I looked at the two indexes, it seems that IX_Name is redundant since IX_Name_Something can be used by any query that desires to search by Name. So I would eliminate IX_Name and make IX_Name_Something the clustered index instead: --drop table Junk2 CREATE TABLE Junk2 ( Name char(5), Something char(5), WhoCares int ) CREATE CLUSTERED INDEX IX_Name_Something ON Junk2 ( Name, Something ) Someone suggested that the first indexing scheme should be kept since it would result in more efficient inserts/deletes (assume that there is no need to worry about updates for Name and Something). Would that make sense? I think the second indexing method would be better since it means one less index needs to be maintained. I would appreciate any insight into this specific example or directing me to more info on maintenance of clustered indexes.

So they also expect it when developing custom activities for the build process template. This post describes how you can debug your custom activities without having to develop on the build server itself. Remote debugging prerequisites The prerequisite for these steps are to install the Microsoft Visual Studio Remote Debugging Monitor. You can find information how to install this at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bt727f1t.aspx. I chose for the option to run the remote debugger on the build server from a file share. Debugging symbols prerequisites To be able to start the debugging, you need to have the pdb files on the buildserver together with the assembly. The pdb must have been build with Full Debug Info. Steps In my setup I have a development machine and a build server. To setup the remote debugging, I performed the following steps Locate on your development machine the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\Remote Debugger Create a share for the Remote Debugger folder. Make sure that the share (and the folder) has the correct permissions so the user on the build server has access to the share. On the build server go to the shared “Remote Debugger” folder Start msvsmon.exe which is located in the folder that represents the platform of the build server. This will open a winform application like Go back to your development machine and open the BuildProcess solution. Start the Attach to process command (Ctrl+Alt+P) Type in the Qualifier the name of the build server. In my case the user account that has started the msvsmon is another user then the user on my development machine. In that case you have to type the qualifier in the format that is shown in the Remote Debugging Monitor (in my case LOCAL\Administrator@TFSLAB) and confirm it by pressing <Enter> Since the build service is running with other credentials, check the option “Show processes from all users”. Now the Attach to process dialog shows the TFSBuildServiceHost process Set the breakpoint in the activity you want to debug and kick of a build. Be aware that when you attach to the TFSBuildServiceHost that you debug every single build that is run by this windows service, so make sure you don’t debug the build server that is in production! Four Emerging Payment Stories

The world of alternate payments has been moving fast of late. Innovation in this area will help both consumers and retailers, but probably hurt the banks (at least that's the plan). Here are four recent news items in this area: Dwolla, a start-up in Iowa, is trying to make credit cards obsolete. Twelve guys in Des Moines are using $1.3M they raised to allow businesses to skip the credit card networks and avoid the fees. Today they move about $1M a day across their network with an average transaction size of $500. Instead of charging merchants 2.9% plus $.30 per transaction, Dwolla charges a quarter -- yep, that coin featuring George Washington. Dwolla (Web + Dollar = Dwolla) avoids the credit networks and connects directly to bank accounts using the bank's ACH network. They are signing up banks and merchants targeting both B2B and C2B as well as P2P payments. They leverage social networks to notify people they have a money transfer, and also have a mobile app that uses GPS location. However, all is not rosy. There have been complaints about unexpected chargebacks and with debit fees being reduced by the big banks, the need is not as pronounced. The big banks are working on their own network called clearXchange that could provide stiff competition. VeriFone just bought European payment processor Point for around $1B. By itself this would not have caught my attention except for the fact that VeriFone also announced the acquisition of GlobalBay earlier this month. In addition to their core business of selling stand-beside payment terminals, with GlobalBay they get employee-operated mobile selling tools and with Point they get a very big payment processing platform. MasterCard and Intel announced a partnership around payments, starting with PayPass, MasterCard's new payment technology. Intel will lend its expertise to add additional levels of security, which seems to be the biggest barrier for consumer adoption. Everyone is scrambling to get their piece of cash transactions, which still represents 85% of all transactions. Apple was awarded another mobile payment patent further cementing the rumors that the iPhone 5 will support NFC payments. As usual, Apple is upsetting the apple cart (sorry) by moving control of key data from the carriers to Apple. With Apple's vast number of iTunes accounts, they have a ready-made customer base to use the payment infrastructure, which I bet will slowly transition people away from credit cards and toward cheaper ACH. Why is the wrong name server information at crsnic.net & gtld-servers.net ?

Did I screw this up? I don’t even know how this might have happened, so I’d like to learn. I’m trying out HostGator’s reseller service and I bought a domain name through it, but I didn’t want the default name servers and so I changed them during the registration. After registration the domain name record is correct everywhere except at whois-servers.net and whois.crsnic.net and it looks like the DNS network is using that same information. $ whois -h whois.enom.com. example.com ... Name Servers: dns1.name-services.com dns2.name-services.com dns3.name-services.com dns4.name-services.com dns5.name-services.com ... $ whois -h whois.crsnic.net. example.com Domain Name: EXAMPLE.COM Registrar: ENOM, INC. Postfix sends to original recipient name instead of alias name

I have setup Postfix as part of my ISPConfig implementation. It should just forward all mail. Clients should be able to define a new alias and receive mail on a different e-mail address, using ISPConfig. Example: A mail sent to [email protected] on my ISPConfig server should be forwarded to external mailbox [email protected] This works fine but one important thing. When opening the mailbox for [email protected] I see the mail with the original sender name, and the original recipient name, i.e. [email protected] I have tried the forward function and the send copy function on a mailbox in ISPConfig. Both cases show the original recipient [email protected] instead of the final recipient [email protected], as it would when I manually forward an e-mail. Can this be achieved without having to maintain a list for each entry? Thanks for looking into this. M.

I want to take a domain on my name. But .Com is already taken. .Info doamin is still available, and its very cheap also. I am just wondering whether I can take a .info domain or these domain are only for products, companies etc. Would you advise me too take vaibhavjain.info as a domain for publishing personal information. and one more question, why .info domain names are cheap than other domain names.

Then I find that "www.socksblue.com" is available, will that domain be valuable for people searching for "blue socks"?

What is the most common default computer name for Windows (Home, Pro, Vista, and 7)? (Or a list of the most common.) I tried Google, and read that Redhat linux defaults to "localhost," and Toshiba laptops (Windows) default to Toshiba, and some Dells default to DELL+some model number.
