  • How to use "Automatically Add to iTunes" for podcasts

    - by user62037
I am trying to get old episodes of podcasts accessible through iTunes and on my iPod. However, when I add these episodes to the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder, they get automatically added, but to the wrong place - they are not getting classified as podcasts (despite their detailed info showing that they belong to the podcast genre). How can I get around this such that they get classified / filed as podcasts?

  • Difficulty creating a paging function with MySQL and ColdFusion

    - by Mel
    I'm trying to create pagination for search results using MySQL and ColdFusion. My intention is to only retrieve the queries that can be displayed on a single page, thus making the process efficient. I tried using two queries in my function, but I could not return two variables to the cfinvoke. The following code does not paginate, but it displays the result search results using a CFC: <!---DEFINE DEFAULT STATE---> <cfparam name="variables.searchResponse" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.titleName" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.genreID" default=""> <cfparam name="URL.platformID" default=""> <!---TitleName can only be blank if one or both genre and platform are selected---> <cfif StructKeyExists(URL, "searchQuery") AND (Len(Trim(URL.titleName)) LTE 2 AND Len(URL.genreID) IS 0 AND Len(URL.platformID) IS 0)> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "invalidString"> <cfelseif StructKeyExists(URL, "searchQuery")> <cfinvoke component="gz.cfcomp.test" method="searchGames" returnvariable="resultData" argumentcollection="#URL#"> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "hasResult"> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "hasResult" AND resultData.RecordCount EQ 0> <cfset variables.searchResponse = "noResult"> </cfif> Using this logic, I can display what I need to display on the page: <cfif searchResponse EQ "invalidString"> <cfoutput>Invalid search</cfoutput> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "noResult"> <cfoutput>No results found</cfoutput> </cfif> <cfif searchResponse EQ "hasResult"> <cfoutput>Display Results</cfoutput> </cfif> If I were executing the queries on the same page, it would be easy to follow the many tutorials out there. But the queries are executing in a function. Displaying the data is easy, but paginating it has become a nightmare for me. Here is my function: <cffunction name="searchGames" access="public" output="false"> <cfargument name="titleName" required="no" type="string"> <cfargument name="genreID" required="no" type="string"> <cfargument name="platformID" required="no" type="string"> <!--- DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLES---> <cfset var resultData = ""> <!---GET DATA---> <cfquery name="resultData" datasource="myDSN"> SELECT * <!---JOINS FOR GENRE/PLATFORM GO HERE---> WHERE <!---CONDITIONS GO HERE---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultData> </cffunction> To paginate, I thought about modifying my function to the following (a new query using a count statement): <!--- DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLES---> <cfset var resultCount = ""> <!---GET DATA---> <cfquery name="resultCount" datasource="myDSN"> SELECT COUNT(gameID) AS rowsFound FROM GAMES <!---JOINS FOR GENRE/PLATFORM GO HERE---> WHERE <!---CONDITIONS GO HERE---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultCount> Then I figured if there is a result to return, I would execute a nested query and create the pagination variables: <cfif resultCount.rowsFound GTE 0> <cfparam name="pageNumber" default="1"> <cfset var recordsPerPage = 5> <cfset var numberOfPages = Int(resultCount.RecordCount / recordsPerPage)> <cfset var recordsToSkip = pageNumber * recordsPerPage - recordsPerPage> <!---DEFINE LOCAL VARIABLE---> <cfset var resultData = ""> <cfquery name="resultData" datasource="myDSN"> <!---GET DATA AND SEND IT BACK USING LIMIT WITH #recordsToSkip# and #RecordsPerPage#---> </cfquery> <!---RETURN VARIABLE---> <cfreturn resultData> </cffunction> I figured I would return two variables: resultCount and resultData. I would use #resultCount# to build my pagination, and #resultData# to display the output. The problem is I can't return two variables in the same cfinvoke tag. Any ideas of how to approach the the right way? I'm totally lost as to the logic I need to follow.

  • How to Create Auto Playlists in Windows Media Player 12

    - by DigitalGeekery
Are you getting tired of the same old playlists in Windows Media Player? Today we’ll show you how to create dynamic auto playlists based on criteria you choose in WMP 12 in Windows 7. Auto Playlists In Library view, click on Create playlist dropdown arrow and select Create auto playlist. On the New Auto Playlist window type in a name for the playlist in the text box. Now we need to choose our criteria by which to filter your playlist. Select Click here to add criteria. For our example, we will create a playlist of songs that were added to the library in the last week from the Alternative genre. So, we will first select Date Added from the dropdown list. Many criteria will have addition options to configure. In the example below you will see that we have a few options to fine tune.   We will filter all the songs added to the library in the last 7 days. We will select Is After from the first dropdown list. Then select Last 7 Days from the second dropdown list. You can add multiple criteria to further filter your playlist. If you can’t find the criteria you are looking for, select “More” at the bottom of the dropdown list.   This will pull up a filter window with all the criteria. Select a filter and then click OK when finished.   From the Genre dropdown, we will select Alternative. If you’d like to add Pictures, Videos, or TV Shows to your auto playlists you can do so by selecting them from the dropdown list under And also include. You will then be able to select criteria for your pictures, videos, or TV shows from the dropdown list.   Finally, you can also add restrictions to your music such as the number of items, duration, or total size. We will limit the duration of our playlist to one hour by selecting Limit Total Duration To… Then type in 1 hour…Click OK.   Our library is automatically filtered and a playlist is created based on the criteria we selected. When additional songs are added to the Windows Media Player library, any of new songs that fit the criteria will automatically be added to the New Songs playlist. You can also save a copy of an auto playlist as a regular playlist. Switch to Playlists view by clicking Playlists from either the top menu or the navigation bar. Select the Play tab and then click Clear list to remove any tracks from the list pane.   Right-click on the playlist you want to save, select Add to, and then Play list. The songs from your auto playlist will appear as an Unsaved list on the list pane. Click Save list. Type in a name for your playlist. Your auto playlist will continue to change as you add or remove items from your Media Player library that meet the criteria you established. The new saved playlist we just created will stay as it is currently. Editing a Auto playlist is easy. Right-click on the playlist and select Edit. Now you are ready to enjoy your playlist. Conclusion Auto playlists are great way to keep your playlists fresh in Windows Media Player 12. Users can get creative and experiment with the wide variety of criteria to customize their listening experience. • UML Class Diagram: Abstract or Interface?

    - by J Smith
I am modeling a class diagram and have spotted an opportunity to simplify it slightly. What I want to know is, would this it be better to implement an abstract class or an interface? The scenario is this, I have the classes: Artist Genre Album Song All of which share the methods getName, setName, and getCount (playcount that is). Would it be best to create an abstract 'Music' class with the aforementioned abstract methods, or should I create an interface, since the classes that implement the interface have to include all of the interface's methods (I think, correct me if I'm wrong). I hope I've given enough detail, please ask questions if I haven't. Thanks!

  • Mi-Fi LEGO Contest Showcases Ultra Minimal Sci-Fi Designs

Many LEGO creations showcased by geeks across the web involve thousands upon thousands of bricks to create perfectly scaled recreations of buildings, movie scenes, and more. In this case, the goal is to recreate an iconic Sci-Fi scene with as few bricks as possible. Courtesy of the LEGO enthusiast site The Living Brick, the Microscale Sci-Fi LEGO Contest or Mi-Fi for short, combines Sci-Fi with tiny, tiny, recreations of scenes from shows and movies in the genre. Hit up the group’s Flickr pool for the contest to check out all the great submissions–including a tiny Star Gate, a mini Star Destroyer, and a surprisingly detailed scene from Planet of the Apes. • Music Rhythm Game Difficulty Question

    - by David Dimalanta
I have curious question about music rhythm based genre while I'm making a code for the game. Is it really better if I set a random pattern encountered on every music played or there is a specific pattern depending on the music and the difficulty? I have observed the Guitar Hero 3 game for the game console where the difficulty is set on the number of strings used and possible number of combo (e.g. two-string combo). Compared to the Tap Tap Revenge for the Android and iPhone, the difficulty based on the number of BPM (Beat per Minute), meaning, number of targets spawn and must be hit.

  • Is AGS outdated for Point & Click Adventures?

    - by Aidan Moore
Is Adventure Game Studio (AGS) outdated? I am working on a Point and Click Adventure game being coded on the AGS engine, and just recently, the question of 'is this outdated?' has come up. I'll admit, AGS is a rather old, and kind of went out of style with the P&C genre itself, but I have not found anything quite like it that specializes in this specific format of games. So my big question is not only 'is this outdated?' but also 'Is there a better alternative?'

  • Super-quick MIDI generator with nonrestrictive license?

Is there another program that does this same sort of thing but without a restrictive license, so that I can generate a bgm and use it in my game?

  • Clicking on clues and other objects in a 2D cluedo like game

    - by Anearion
I'm a java/android programmer, but I don't have any experience in game programming, I'm already reading proper books, like "Pro Android Games", but my concerns are more about the ideas behind game programming than the techniques themselves. I'm working on a 2D game, something like Cluedo to let you understand the genre. I would like to know how should I act with the "scenes", for example, a room with a desk, TV, windows and a lamp. I need to make some items tappable and others not. Is it common to use one image (invisible to the user) with every different item a different color, then call the getColor() method on the image? Or use one image as background, and separate images for all the items? If the latter, how can I set the positioning? and should I use imageView or imageButton? I'm sorry if those are really low quality questions, but as "outsider" ( I'm 23 and still finishing my university ) it's pretty hard learn alone.

  • Whats a good structure to save and retrieve locations of images?

    - by Goot
I got a java-ee application, where I collect informations about movies. Im my backend I provide data like the name, description, genre and a random uuid. I also got lots of related files, which are stored on a file server. Including some screenshots, the dvd or bluRay cover and video trailers. My current approach is: When saving the files to the fileserver, I retrieve the movies random uuid (which is the primary key btw.). I then rename the files screenshot_[UUID]_1, screenshot_[UUID]_2 ... etc. Now, there are lots of other ways to handle this, like saving all filenames in a database or creating a dir structure on the fileserver for every uuid and, e.g., return all images in the "[uuid]/screenshots" folder via REST. I expect about 30k requests a day, so the service has to be pretty performant. Whats the best way to solve this?

Mentent-ils ?
