  • DVD burn IMAPI2 + getting error, multiple of the sector size

    - by sijith
    hi, I am writing a program which burns data to DVD. When i run my program its showing error code 0xC0AA0403(The size of the provided IStream object is invalid. The size must be a multiple of the sector size, 2048.) Please help me on this. How to specify data as multiple of 2048. I am just passing a single DOC file to burn

  • Can anyone explain why my crypto++ decrypted file is 16 bytes short?

    - by Tom Williams
    I suspect it might be too much to hope for, but can anyone with experience with crypto++ explain why the "decrypted.out" file created by main() is 16 characters short (which probably not coincidentally is the block size)? I think the issue must be in CryptStreamBuffer::GetNextChar(), but I've been staring at it and the crypto++ documentation for hours. Any other comments about how crummy or naive my std::streambuf implementation are also welcome ;-) And I've just noticed I'm missing some calls to delete so you don't have to tell me about those. Thanks, Tom // Runtime Includes #include <iostream> // Crypto++ Includes #include "aes.h" #include "modes.h" // xxx_Mode< > #include "filters.h" // StringSource and // StreamTransformation #include "files.h" using namespace std; class CryptStreamBuffer: public std::streambuf { public: CryptStreamBuffer(istream& encryptedInput, CryptoPP::StreamTransformation& c); CryptStreamBuffer(ostream& encryptedOutput, CryptoPP::StreamTransformation& c); protected: virtual int_type overflow(int_type ch = traits_type::eof()); virtual int_type uflow(); virtual int_type underflow(); virtual int_type pbackfail(int_type ch); virtual int sync(); private: int GetNextChar(); int m_NextChar; // Buffered character CryptoPP::StreamTransformationFilter* m_StreamTransformationFilter; CryptoPP::FileSource* m_Source; CryptoPP::FileSink* m_Sink; }; // class CryptStreamBuffer CryptStreamBuffer::CryptStreamBuffer(istream& encryptedInput, CryptoPP::StreamTransformation& c) : m_NextChar(traits_type::eof()), m_StreamTransformationFilter(0), m_Source(0), m_Sink(0) { m_StreamTransformationFilter = new CryptoPP::StreamTransformationFilter(c); m_Source = new CryptoPP::FileSource(encryptedInput, false, m_StreamTransformationFilter); } CryptStreamBuffer::CryptStreamBuffer(ostream& encryptedOutput, CryptoPP::StreamTransformation& c) : m_NextChar(traits_type::eof()), m_StreamTransformationFilter(0), m_Source(0), m_Sink(0) { m_Sink = new CryptoPP::FileSink(encryptedOutput); m_StreamTransformationFilter = new CryptoPP::StreamTransformationFilter(c, m_Sink); } CryptStreamBuffer::int_type CryptStreamBuffer::overflow(int_type ch) { return m_StreamTransformationFilter->Put((byte)ch); } CryptStreamBuffer::int_type CryptStreamBuffer::uflow() { int_type result = GetNextChar(); // Reset the buffered character m_NextChar = traits_type::eof(); return result; } CryptStreamBuffer::int_type CryptStreamBuffer::underflow() { return GetNextChar(); } CryptStreamBuffer::int_type CryptStreamBuffer::pbackfail(int_type ch) { return traits_type::eof(); } int CryptStreamBuffer::sync() { if (m_Sink) { m_StreamTransformationFilter->MessageEnd(); } } int CryptStreamBuffer::GetNextChar() { // If we have a buffered character do nothing if (m_NextChar != traits_type::eof()) { return m_NextChar; } // If there are no more bytes currently available then pump the source // *** I SUSPECT THE PROBLEM IS HERE *** if (m_StreamTransformationFilter->MaxRetrievable() == 0) { m_Source->Pump(1024); } // Retrieve the next byte byte nextByte; size_t noBytes = m_StreamTransformationFilter->Get(nextByte); if (0 == noBytes) { return traits_type::eof(); } // Buffer up the next character m_NextChar = nextByte; return m_NextChar; } void InitKey(byte key[]) { key[0] = -62; key[1] = 102; key[2] = 78; key[3] = 75; key[4] = -96; key[5] = 125; key[6] = 66; key[7] = 125; key[8] = -95; key[9] = -66; key[10] = 114; key[11] = 22; key[12] = 48; key[13] = 111; key[14] = -51; key[15] = 112; } void DecryptFile(const char* sourceFileName, const char* destFileName) { ifstream ifs(sourceFileName, ios::in | ios::binary); ofstream ofs(destFileName, ios::out | ios::binary); byte key[CryptoPP::AES::DEFAULT_KEYLENGTH]; InitKey(key); CryptoPP::ECB_Mode<CryptoPP::AES>::Decryption decryptor(key, sizeof(key)); if (ifs) { if (ofs) { CryptStreamBuffer cryptBuf(ifs, decryptor); std::istream decrypt(&cryptBuf); int c; while (EOF != (c = decrypt.get())) { ofs << (char)c; } ofs.flush(); } else { std::cerr << "Failed to open file '" << destFileName << "'." << endl; } } else { std::cerr << "Failed to open file '" << sourceFileName << "'." << endl; } } void EncryptFile(const char* sourceFileName, const char* destFileName) { ifstream ifs(sourceFileName, ios::in | ios::binary); ofstream ofs(destFileName, ios::out | ios::binary); byte key[CryptoPP::AES::DEFAULT_KEYLENGTH]; InitKey(key); CryptoPP::ECB_Mode<CryptoPP::AES>::Encryption encryptor(key, sizeof(key)); if (ifs) { if (ofs) { CryptStreamBuffer cryptBuf(ofs, encryptor); std::ostream encrypt(&cryptBuf); int c; while (EOF != (c = ifs.get())) { encrypt << (char)c; } encrypt.flush(); } else { std::cerr << "Failed to open file '" << destFileName << "'." << endl; } } else { std::cerr << "Failed to open file '" << sourceFileName << "'." << endl; } } int main(int argc, char* argv[]) { EncryptFile(argv[1], "encrypted.out"); DecryptFile("encrypted.out", "decrypted.out"); return 0; }

  • error: expected `;' before '{' token - What is the cause?

    - by melee
    Here is my implementation file: using namespace std; #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> #include <string> #include <stack> //line 5 #include "proj05.canvas.h" //----------------Constructor----------------// Canvas::Canvas() //line 10 { Title = ""; Nrow = 0; Ncol = 0; image[][100]; // line 15 position.r = 0; position.c = 0; } //-------------------Paint------------------// line 20 void Canvas::Paint(int R, int C, char Color) { cout << "Paint to be implemented" << endl; } The errors I'm getting are these: proj05.canvas.cpp: In function 'std::istream& operator>>(std::istream&, Canvas&)': proj05.canvas.cpp:11: error: expected `;' before '{' token proj05.canvas.cpp:22: error: a function-definition is not allowed here before '{' token proj05.canvas.cpp:24: error: expected `}' at end of input proj05.canvas.cpp:24: error: expected `}' at end of input These seem like simple syntax errors, but I am not sure what's wrong. Could someone decode these for me? I'd really appreciate it, thanks for your time! EDIT Here is the definition of Canvas in my .h file: #ifndef CANVAS_H #define CANVAS_H #include <iostream> #include <iomanip> #include <string> #include <stack> class Canvas { public: Canvas(); void Paint(int R, int C, char Color); const int Nrow; const int Ncol; string Title; int image[][100]; stack<int> path; struct PixelCoordinates { unsigned int r; unsigned int c; } position; }; #endif

  • Having an issue with overwriting an element of a file correctly (numeric)

    - by IngeniousHax
    This is an ATM style program, but currently it doesn't do exactly what I need it to do... I need to get the current balance, and when money is transferred from either checking or savings, it should add it to checking and subtract it from savings. which is does, but not correctly... Input example -=[ Funds Transfer ]=- -=[ Savings to Checking ]=- Account Name: nomadic Amount to transfer: $400 New Balance in Checking: $900 // original was 500 New Balance in Savings: $7.7068e+012 // this should now be 1100... Here is my code, it's a lot of code, but there are no errors, so throwing it into an IDE and compiling should be fairly quick for whoever would like to help. mainBankClass.h mainBankClass.h #ifndef MAINBANKCLASS_H #define MAINBANKCLASS_H #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> using namespace std; class Banking { protected: string checkAcctName, saveAcctName; // Name on the account int acctNumber[13]; // Account number float acctBalance, initSaveDeposit, initCheckDeposit, depAmt; // amount in account, and amount to deposit public: char getBalanceChoice(); // Get name on account for displaying relevant information char newAccountMenu(); // Create a new account and assign it a random account number void invalid(char *); // If an invalid option is chosen char menu(); // Print the main menu for the user. virtual float deposit(){ return 0; } // virtual function for deposits // virtual float withdrawal() = 0; // Virtual function for withdrawals void fatal(char *); // Handles fatal errors. • Losing data after reading them correct from file

    - by user1388172
    i have the fallowing class of object with a class a data structure which i use in main combined. The ADT(abstract data type) is a linked list. After i read from file the input data and create and object which at print looks just fine after a print. after i push_back() the 3-rd int variable get initializated to 0. So example and code: Example: ex.in: 1 7 31 2 2 2 3 3 3 now i create objects from each line, which at print look as they suppose, but after push_back(): 1 7 0 2 2 0 3 3 0 Class.h: class RAngle { private: int x,y,l,b; public: int solution,prec; RAngle(){ x = y = solution = prec = b = l =0; } RAngle(int i,int j,int k){ x = i; y = j; l = k; solution = 0; prec=0; b=0; } friend ostream& operator << (ostream& out, const RAngle& ra){ out << ra.x << " " << ra.y << " " << ra.l <<endl; return out; } friend istream& operator >>( istream& is, RAngle& ra){ is >> ra.x; is >> ra.y; is >> ra.l; return is ; } }; ADT.h: template <class T> class List { private: struct Elem { T data; Elem* next; }; Elem* first; T pop_front(){ if (first!=NULL) { T aux = first->data; first = first->next; return aux; } T a; return a; } void push_back(T data){ Elem *n = new Elem; n->data = data; n->next = NULL; if (first == NULL) { first = n; return ; } Elem *current; for(current=first;current->next != NULL;current=current->next); current->next = n; } Main.cpp(after i call this function in main which prints object as they suppose to be the x var(from RAngle class) changes to 0 in all cases.) void readData(List <RAngle> &l){ RAngle r; ifstream f_in; f_in.open("ex.in",ios::in); for(int i=0;i<10;++i){ f_in >> r; cout << r; l.push_back(r); }

I have the following while loop (nested down several levels of other while loops and if statements) which calls getline, but my output statement which is the first code line in the while loop's block of code tells me it is reading the same line over and over again, which explains why my output file doesn't contain the right data when my program is finished. while (getline(file_handle, buffer_str)) { cout<< buffer_str <<endl; cin.get(); if ((buffer_str.find(';', 0) != string::npos) && (buffer_str.find('\"', 0) != string::npos)) { //we're now at the end of the 'exc' initialiation statement buffer_str.erase(buffer_str.size() - 2, 1); buffer_str += '\n'; for (size_t i = 0; i < pos; i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += "throw(exc);\n"; for (size_t i = 0; i < (pos - 3); i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += '}'; } else if (buffer_str.find(search_str6, 0) != string::npos) { //we're now at the second problem line of the first case buffer_str += " {\n"; output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; getline(file_handle, buffer_str); //We're now at the beginning of the 'exc' initialiation statement output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; while (getline(file_handle, buffer_str)) { if ((buffer_str.find(';', 0) != string::npos) && (buffer_str.find('\"', 0) != string::npos)) { //we're now at the end of the 'exc' initialiation statement buffer_str.erase(buffer_str.size() - 2, 1); buffer_str += '\n'; for (size_t i = 0; i < pos; i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += "throw(exc);\n"; for (size_t i = 0; i < (pos - 3); i++) { buffer_str += ' '; } buffer_str += '}'; } output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; if (buffer_str.find("return", 0) != string::npos) { getline(file_handle, buffer_str); output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; about_to_break = true; break; //out of this while loop } } } if (about_to_break) { break; //out of the level 3 while loop (execution then goes back up to beginning of level 2 while loop) } output_str += buffer_str; output_str += '\n'; } Because of this problem, my if statement and then my else statement in my loop are not functioning as they should, and it doesn't break out of that loop when it should (though it eventually does break out of it, but I don't know exactly how yet). Anyone have any idea what could be causing this problem?? Thanks in advance.

  • resolv.conf doesn't get set on reboot when networking is configured for static ip

    - by kenneth koontz
    I'm experiencing, what appears to be a hostname resolution issue in ubuntu 12.04 server edition when configuring my computer to use a static ip. In /etc/network/interfaces: # The primary network interface auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.1.28 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.1.1 Running $ sudo apt-get upgrade, results in a 'Failed to fetch...': . . . They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. When I change my /etc/network/interfaces to: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp Everything works fine. Looking into /etc/resolv.conf provides some more hints...In cases where I was getting the resolving issue, resolve.conf was empty. No nameservers were specified. When I changed to dhcp from static and restarted networking. /etc/resolv.conf gets written to: 'nameserver 192.168.1.1'. Switching back from dhcp to static and restarting doesn't remove the nameserve entry. When I restart the system with static set, resolv.conf is empty. When I restart the system with dhcp set, resolv.conf has nameserver 192.168.1.1. So it appears that the issue is that resolve.conf is not getting written to correctly? Which package/code is responsible for writing to resolv.conf? Is there a particular package that I can take a look at open issues? UPDATE: istream posted a good article discussing changes to resolve.conf in 12.04. http://www.stgraber.org/2012/02/24/dns-in-ubuntu-12-04/

  • C++ and function pointers assessment: lack of inspiration

    - by OlivierDofus
    I've got an assessment to give to my students. It's about C++ and function pointers. Their skill is middle: it the first year of a programming school after bachelor. To give you something precise, here's a sample of a solution of one of 3 exercices they had to do in 30 minutes (the question was: "here's a version of a code that could be written with function pointers, write down the same thing but with function pointers"): typedef void (*fcPtr) (istream &); fcPtr ArrayFct [] = { Delete , Insert, Swap, Move }; void HandleCmd (const string && Cmd) { string AvalaibleCommands ("DISM"); string::size_type Pos; istringstream Flux (Cmd); char CodeOp; Flux >> CodeOp; Pos = AvalaibleCommands.find (toupper (CodeOp)); if (Pos != string::npos) { ArrayFct [Pos](Flux); } } Any idea where I could find some inspiration? Some of the students have understood the principles, even though it's very hard for them to write C++ code. I know them, I know they're clever, and I'm pretty sure they should be very good project managers. So, writing C++ code is not that important after all. Understanding is the most important part (IMHO). I'm wondering about maybe break the habits, and give half of the questions about the principle, or even better, give some sample in other language and ask them why it's better to use function pointers instead of classical programming (usually a big switch case). Any idea where I could look? Find some inspiration?

  • WPD MTP data stream hanging on Release

    - by Jonathan Potter
    I've come across a weird problem when reading data from a MTP-compatible mobile device using the WPD (Windows Portable Devices) API, under Windows 8 (not tried any other Windows versions yet). The symptom is, when calling Release on an IStream interface obtained via the IPortableDeviceResources::GetStream function, occasionally the Release call will hang and not return until the device is disconnected from the PC. After some experimentation I've discovered that this never happens as long as the entire contents of the stream have been read. But if the stream has only been partially read (say, the first 256Kb of the file), it can happen seemingly at random (although quite frequently). This has been reproduced with an iPhone and a Windows Phone 8 mobile, so it does not seem to be device-specific. Has anyone come across this sort of issue before? And more importantly, does anyone know of a way to solve it other than by always reading the entire contents of the stream? Thanks!

  • Convert C++Builder AnsiString to std::string via boost::lexical_cast

    - by David Klein
    For a school assignment I have to implement a project in C++ using Borland C++ Builder. As the VCL uses AnsiString for all GUI Components I have to convert all of my std::strings to AnsiString for the sake of displaying. std::string inp = "Hello world!"; AnsiString outp(inp.c_str()); works of course but is a bit tedious to write and code duplication I want to avoid. As we use Boost in other contexts I decided to provide some helper functions go get boost::lexical_cast to work with AnsiString. Here is my implementation so far: std::istream& operator>>(std::istream& istr, AnsiString& str) { istr.exceptions(std::ios::badbit | std::ios::failbit | std::ios::eofbit); std::string s; std::getline(istr,s); str = AnsiString(s.c_str()); return istr; } In the beginning I got Access Violation after Access Violation but since I added the .exceptions() stuff the picture gets clearer. When the conversion is performed I get the following Exception: ios_base::eofbit set [Runtime Error/std::ios_base::failure] Does anyone have an idea how to fix it and can explain why the error occurs? My C++ experience is very limited. The conversion routine the other way round would be: std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ostr,const AnsiString& str) { ostr << (str.c_str()); return ostr; } Maybe someone will spot an error here too :) With best regards! Edit: At the moment I'm using the edited version of Jem, it works in the beginning. After a while of using the programm the Borland Codeguard mentions some pointer arithmetic in already freed regions. Any ideas how this could be related? The Codeguard log (I'm using the german version, translations marked with stars): ------------------------------------------ Fehler 00080. 0x104230 (r) (Thread 0x07A4): Zeigerarithmetik in freigegebenem Speicher: 0x0241A238-0x0241A258. **(pointer arithmetic in freed region)** | d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\sstream Zeile 126: | { // not first growth, adjust pointers | _Seekhigh = _Seekhigh - _Mysb::eback() + _Ptr; |> _Mysb::setp(_Mysb::pbase() - _Mysb::eback() + _Ptr, | _Mysb::pptr() - _Mysb::eback() + _Ptr, _Ptr + _Newsize); | if (_Mystate & _Noread) Aufrufhierarchie: **(stack-trace)** 0x00411731(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:010731) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\sstream#126 0x00411183(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:010183) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#465 0x0040933D(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:00833D) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#151 0x00405988(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:004988) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\ostream#679 0x00405759(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:004759) D:\Projekte\Schule\foschamp\src\Server\Ansistringkonverter.h#31 0x004080C9(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:0070C9) D:\Projekte\Schule\foschamp\lib\boost_1_34_1\boost/lexical_cast.hpp#151 Objekt (0x0241A238) [Größe: 32 Byte] war erstellt mit new **(Object was created with new)** | d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\xmemory Zeile 28: | _Ty _FARQ *_Allocate(_SIZT _Count, _Ty _FARQ *) | { // allocate storage for _Count elements of type _Ty |> return ((_Ty _FARQ *)::operator new(_Count * sizeof (_Ty))); | } | Aufrufhierarchie: **(stack-trace)** 0x0040ED90(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:00DD90) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\xmemory#28 0x0040E194(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:00D194) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\xmemory#143 0x004115CF(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:0105CF) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\sstream#105 0x00411183(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:010183) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#465 0x0040933D(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:00833D) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#151 0x00405988(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:004988) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\ostream#679 Objekt (0x0241A238) war Gelöscht mit delete **(Object was deleted with delete)** | d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\xmemory Zeile 138: | void deallocate(pointer _Ptr, size_type) | { // deallocate object at _Ptr, ignore size |> ::operator delete(_Ptr); | } | Aufrufhierarchie: **(stack-trace)** 0x004044C6(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:0034C6) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\xmemory#138 0x00411628(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:010628) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\sstream#111 0x00411183(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:010183) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#465 0x0040933D(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:00833D) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\streambuf#151 0x00405988(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:004988) d:\program files\borland\bds\4.0\include\dinkumware\ostream#679 0x00405759(=FOSChampion.exe:0x01:004759) D:\Projekte\Schule\foschamp\src\Server\Ansistringkonverter.h#31 ------------------------------------------ Ansistringkonverter.h is the file with the posted operators and line 31 is: std::ostream& operator<<(std::ostream& ostr,const AnsiString& str) { ostr << (str.c_str()); **(31)** return ostr; } Thanks for your help :)

  • Storing UTF-8 XML using Word's CustomXMLPart or any other supported way

    - by wpfwannabe
    I am writing a Word add-in which is supposed to store some own XML data per document using Word object model and its CustomXMLPart. The problem I am now facing is the lack of IStream-like functionality for reading/writing XML to/from a CustomXMLPart. It only provides BSTR interface and I am puzzled how to handle UTF-8 XMLs with BSTRs. To my understanding an UTF-8 XML file should really never have to undergo this sort of Unicode conversion. I am not sure what to expect as a result here. Is there another way of using Word automation interfaces to store arbitrary custom information inside a DOCX file?

  • Writing my own iostream utility class: Is this a good idea?

    - by Alex
    I have an application that wants to read word by word, delimited by whitespace, from a file. I am using code along these lines: std::istream in; string word; while (in.good()) { in>>word; // Processing, etc. ... } My issue is that the processing on the words themselves is actually rather light. The major time consumer is a set of mySQL queries I run. What I was thinking is writing a buffered class that reads something like a kilobyte from the file, initializes a stringstream as a buffer, and performs extraction from that transparently to avoid a great many IO operations. Thoughts and advice?

  • Problem of using cin twice.

    - by gc
    Here is the code: string str; cinstr; cout<<"first input:"<<str<<endl; getline(cin, str); cout<<"line input:"<<str<<endl; The result is that getline never pauses for user input, therefore the second output is always empty. After spending some time on it, I realized after the first call "cinstr", it seems '\n' is still stored in cin (using cin.peek() to check), which ends getline immediately. The solution will be adding one more line between the first usage and the second one: cin.ignore(numeric_limits::max(), '\n'); However, I still don't understand, why is '\n' left there after the first call? What does istream& operator really do?

  • How to switch iostream from binary to text mode and vice versa?

    - by Mad Fish
    I want to read both formatted text and binary data from the same iostream. How can I do that? Why? Imagine this situation: You have different resources, and resource loaders for them, that take a std::istream as a parameter. And there are a "resource source" that provides these streams. Resources can be both text and binary and I need to handle both cases with resource loaders. Or other situation: Image that you have an archive with resources of mixed types. How can I get a text stream from inside the binary archive stream?

  • Modify input stream data on the fly

    - by Frizi
    I would like to implement a std::stream modifier/parser, that is doing data manipulation on the fly. Is it possible to create it in form of stream manipulator? For example, i want to strip all the line comments (from any // to the end of line) out of the stdin and pass it to stdout. string str; istream strippingCin = cin >> stripcomments; while(strippingCin.good()) { strippingCin >> str; cout << str; } There may be also a large file input instead of cin, so i don't want to load full stream data into memory at once. Is it possible without writing my own stream class? Maybe is there another route i should take instead?

  • Encapsulating user input of data for a class (C++)

    - by Dr. Monkey
    For an assignment I've made a simple C++ program that uses a superclass (Student) and two subclasses (CourseStudent and ResearchStudent) to store a list of students and print out their details, with different details shown for the two different types of students (using overriding of the display() method from Student). My question is about how the program collects input from the user of things like the student name, ID number, unit and fee information (for a course student) and research information (for research students): My implementation has the prompting for user input and the collecting of that input handled within the classes themselves. The reasoning behind this was that each class knows what kind of input it needs, so it makes sense to me to have it know how to ask for it (given an ostream through which to ask and an istream to collect the input from). My lecturer says that the prompting and input should all be handled in the main program, which seems to me somewhat messier, and would make it trickier to extend the program to handle different types of students. I am considering, as a compromise, to make a helper class that handles the prompting and collection of user input for each type of Student, which could then be called on by the main program. The advantage of this would be that the student classes don't have as much in them (so they're cleaner), but also they can be bundled with the helper classes if the input functionality is required. This also means more classes of Student could be added without having to make major changes to the main program, as long as helper classes are provided for these new classes. Also the helper class could be swapped for an alternative language version without having to make any changes to the class itself. What are the major advantages and disadvantages of the three different options for user input (fully encapsulated, helper class or in the main program)?

  • Storing header and data sections in a CSV file

    - by morpheous
    This should be relatively easy to do, but after several hours straight programming my mind seems a bit frazzled and could do with some help. I have a C++ class which I am currently using to store read/write data to file. I was initially using binary data, but have decided to store the data as CSV in order to let programs written in other languages be able to load the data. The C++ class looks a bit like this: class BinaryData { public: BinaryData(); void serialize(std::ostream& output) const; void deserialize(std::istream& input); private: Header m_hdr; std::vector<Row> m_rows; }; I am simply rewriting the serialize/deserialize methods to write to a CSV file. I am not sure on the "best" way to store a header section and a "data" section in a "flat" CSV file though - any suggestions on the most sensible way to do this?

  • Solved: Help with this compile error

    I just picked up an old project and I'm not sure what the following error could mean. g++ -o BufferedReader.o -c -g -Wall -std=c++0x -I/usr/include/xmms2 -Ijsoncpp/include/json/ -fopenmp -I/usr/include/ImageMagick -I/usr/include/xmms2 -I/usr/include/libvisual-0.4 -D_GNU_SOURCE=1 -D_REENTRANT -I/usr/include/SDL -DQT_CORE_LIB -DQT_GUI_LIB -DQT_SCRIPT_LIB -DQT_SHARED -I/usr/include/QtCore -I/usr/include/QtGui -I/usr/include/QtScript BufferedReader.cpp In file included from BufferedReader.cpp:23: /usr/include/string.h:36:42: error: missing binary operator before token "(" In file included from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/cwchar:47, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/bits/postypes.h:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/iosfwd:42, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/ios:39, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/istream:40, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-redhat-linux/4.4.3/../../../../include/c++/4.4.3/sstream:39, from BufferedReader.cpp:24: At line 24 of BufferedReader.cpp is #include <string.h>. Edit: Changing -Ijsoncpp/include/json/ to Ijsoncpp/include stopped the errors. I noticed I was including <json/json.h>. I'm about to switch to JsonGlib though, which is the reason I pulled the project up again. So it's all good. :)

  • Simplest way to mix sequences of types with iostreams?

    - by Kylotan
    I have a function void write<typename T>(const T&) which is implemented in terms of writing the T object to an ostream, and a matching function T read<typename T>() that reads a T from an istream. I am basically using iostreams as a plain text serialisation format, which obviously works fine for most built-in types, although I'm not sure how to effectively handle std::strings just yet. I'd like to be able to write out a sequence of objects too, eg void write<typename T>(const std::vector<T>&) or an iterator based equivalent (although in practice, it would always be used with a vector). However, while writing an overload that iterates over the elements and writes them out is easy enough to do, this doesn't add enough information to allow the matching read operation to know how each element is delimited, which is essentially the same problem that I have with a single std::string. Is there a single approach that can work for all basic types and std::string? Or perhaps I can get away with 2 overloads, one for numerical types, and one for strings? (Either using different delimiters or the string using a delimiter escaping mechanism, perhaps.)

  • Proper QUuid usage in Qt ? (7-Zip DLL usage problems (QLibrary, QUuid GUID conversion, interfaces))

    - by whipsnap
    Hi, I'm trying to write a program that would use 7-Zip DLL for reading files from inside archive files (7z, zip etc). Here's where I'm so far: #include QtCore/QCoreApplication #include QLibrary #include QUuid #include iostream using namespace std; #include "7z910/CPP/7zip/Archive/IArchive.h" #include "7z910/CPP/7zip/IStream.h" #include "MyCom.h" // {23170F69-40C1-278A-1000-000110070000} QUuid CLSID_CFormat7z(0x23170F69, 0x40C1, 0x278A, 0x10, 0x00, 0x00, 0x01, 0x10, 0x07, 0x00, 0x00); typedef int (*CreateObjectFunc)( const GUID *clsID, const GUID *interfaceID, void **outObject); void readFileInArchive() { QLibrary myLib("7z.dll"); CreateObjectFunc myFunction = (CreateObjectFunc)myLib.resolve("CreateObject"); if (myFunction == 0) { cout outArchive; myFunction(&CLSID_CFormat7z, &IID_IOutArchive, (void **)&outArchive); } int main(int argc, char *argv[]) { QCoreApplication a(argc, argv); readFileInArchive(); return a.exec(); } Trying to build that in Qt Creator will lead to following error: cannot convert 'QUuid*' to 'const GUID*' in argument passing How should QUuid be correctly used in this context? Also, being a C++ and Qt newbie I haven't yet quite grasped templates or interfaces, so overall I'm having trouble getting through these first steps. If someone could give tips or even example code on how for example an image file could be extracted from ZIP file (to be shown in Qt GUI later on*), I would highly appreciate that. My main goal at the moment is to write a program with GUI for selecting archive files containing image files (PNG, JPG etc) and displaying those files one at a time in the GUI. A Qt based CDisplayEx in short.
