• ASUS N45SF - play subwoofer with audio connected

  I have notebook ASUS N45SF. It comes with dedicated subwoofer, which is connected to separate audio jack. When I connect any audio device to audio jack, internal speakers remain silent, but subwoofer too. I want to let subwoofer play even with audio device connected to jack. Are there any drivers or settings in OS, which would eneble this behaviour? I have Win7/Ubuntu dualboot so OS doesnt matter. Thanks

• No voice on front headphone port.

  I have a strange problem. It just happen recently, when I accidentally unplug my headphone. But I unplugged it before and nothing happen. Basically now, when I use my headphone through front jack, when playing videos, I can't hear voice. Only background music. Using kde sound setup, pressing front left and front right test button, result in a mono sound. No distinction between right and left. This only happen with front jack. Rear jack is working fine.

• Cannot start ubuntu-desktop

  I am mainly a Windows technician and am trying to install ubuntu server. Everything worked fine and I can log in using the shell but when I installed ubuntu-desktop it just refuses to start? I did try startx and I get the message "server already running" I tried "start gdm" (what is this supposed to do?) and it comes back with "Job is already running: gdm" I know that the server version is not really for ubuntu-desktop but all our other servers are like that and I want it, is there any help out there? Ps. the server is running on a VM install that my IT department made for me and I connect to the machine shell using "Tera Ter Web 3.1" Thank you Jack

• Rotate to a set degree then reverse and repeat in Unity

  and thank you for your time. I'm making my first project in Unity, a simple game where touching objects adds points to the players score. I'd like the objects to have a pleasant back and forth swaying animation on the Z axis. Nodding to the right 30 degrees, then to the left 30 degrees, on and on. Here's what I've got... public class Rotator : MonoBehaviour { void Update () { transform.Rotate(new Vector3(0,0,12)*Time.deltaTime); } } This gives me a nice slow rotation. But I am clueless how to tell Unity to stop at +30 degrees, reverse to -30 degrees, rotate again to +30, stop and repeat, etc, etc. I'd really appreciate any help. Maybe there is a thread like this that I was not able to find? I assume it will involve some kind of 'if than' function? Thank you, Ryan

  Hello all, Ive recently downloaded joomla using an instant download option, and now im looking to create my own templates, so i went to http://www.siteground.com/tutorials/joomla15/joomla_create_template.htm and Im trying to follow the tuturial but ive failed at the first hurdle... where it says "First, open the "templates" directory in your Joomla installation. Then create a subfolder in it named "tutorial_template". All the files of your template will reside in it." The problem is I have no clue how to do this, where is the directory to start with?? the only thing I know how to get up is the administrators screen, in which I have to choose one of the stock templates, which would be great if I didnt care about my own designs...but obviously im looking to have my own html and css coding used instead. How do I find where the folders are and how do I open them? Im sorry if its a bit of a dumb question but im so confused..so early on. Thanks in advance. Ryan

  I have installed lamp on Ubuntu 12.04. I try to access /var/www but it doesn't allow me to do anything as it says I don't have permissions. I have tried: 1. gksudo nautilus - which works but its very inconvenient way of doing things. 2. sudo adduser ryan www-data sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/www sudo chmod g+rw /var/www The above didn't work. I have googled and searched this site for a solution, but all the existing possible solutions have not worked.

In this I am storing the friends of a user in the form of CSV as shown below in the user table uid user_name friends 1 John 2 2 Jack 3,1 3 Gary 2,4 4 Joey 3 In the above scenario if the logged in user is John and if he visits the profile page of Joey, the connection between them should appear as John-Jack-Gary-Joey I am able to establish the connection at level 1 i.e If Jack visits Joey's profile I am able to establish the following : Jack-Gary-Joey But for the 2nd level I need to get into the same routine of for loops which I know is not the right solution + I am not able to implement that as well. • Read only file system

  I'm running Ubuntu 12.10, Upon opening any shell I get the following error: /home/jack/.rbenv/libexec/rbenv-init: line 87: cannot create temp file for here-document: Read-only file system I realised this wasn't simply a rbenv issue, as any file I try to write to returns an error saying the system is Read-only. I don't know how else to describe my problem, each time I boot up the system goes through a disk check, where it supposedly fixes several errors in my disk. Here is my /etc/fstab # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> proc /proc proc nodev,noexec,nosuid 0 0 # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation UUID=1cc4b2ab-a984-4516-ac25-6d64f5050244 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1 # swap was on /dev/sda5 during installation UUID=4e0dfeae-701a-43ce-b5c6-65f15ab3d8e3 none swap sw 0 0 The entire file system is read-only. • Unable to connect remotely to Vsftpd server set up on CentOS VirtualBox

  I have set up a Vsftp server using the following instructions provided Here and even went as far as following the commentary at the bottom. But I am unable to connect remotely. When I attempt to use FileZilla or my Ubuntu terminal, I always get: ryan@ryan-Galago-UltraPro:~$ ftp 10.0.x.xx ftp: connect: Connection timed out ftp> I have checked and re-checked iptables conf file and made sure that Port 21 is being Accepted and it is. • ATI Catalyst driver 12.8 is not using hardware acceleration on Precise

  I've been using Ubuntu and ATI Catalyst for years. On my clean install of Ubuntu 12.04 I've noticed that Catalyst 12.6 and then 12.8 are not actually using my HD5750 GPU for hardware acceleration - high CPU usage, zero GPU load. Everything installed correctly with no hassles, fglrxinfo and vainfo are correct as per this HowTo for Precise. I have an Ubuntu 10.04 with Catalyst 12.6 installation on the same hardware which does use the GPU - low CPU usage, high GPU load when transcodeing video files or playing video content. The VA-API drivers are not installed on the 10.04 build. They are not mentioned in this HowTo for Lucid. fgl_glxgears frame rates on Precise are a fifth of the rates on Lucid. LUCID jw@Kworld:~$ fgl_glxgears Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer 16867 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3373.400 FPS 12523 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2504.600 FPS 13763 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2752.600 FPS PRECISE jw@NewWorld12:~$ fgl_glxgears Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer 12905 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2581.000 FPS 3230 frames in 5.0 seconds = 646.000 FPS 517 frames in 5.0 seconds = 103.400 FPS 518 frames in 5.0 seconds = 103.600 FPS 6489 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1297.800 FPS This is glxgears running in fullscreen.   Hey, I am about to purchase a domain name for a bit of money. I do not personally know the person who I am purchasing the domain name from, we have only chatted via email. The proposed process for the transfer is: The owner of the domain lowest the domain name security and emails me the domain password, I request the transfer After the request, I transfer the money via PayPal When the money has been cleared the current domain name owner confirms the transfer via the link that he receives in that email I wait for it to be transferred. The domain is currently registered with DirectNIC - http://www.directnic.com/ Is this the best practice? Seeing I am paying a bit of money for this domain name, I am worried that after the money has been cleared that I won't see the domain name or hear from the current domain name owner again. Is there a 'domain governing body' which I can report to if this is the case? Is the proposed transfer process the best solution? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks! Jack

• Pygame Tile Based Character movement speed

  Thanks for taking the time to read this. Right now I'm making a really basic tile based game. The map is a large amount of 16x16 tiles, and the character image is 16x16 as well. My character has its own class that is an extension of the sprite class, and the x and y position is saved in terms of the tile position. To note I am fairly new to pygame. My question is, I am planning to have character movement restricted to one tile at a time, and I'm not sure how to make it so that, even if the player hits the directional key dozens of time quickly, (WASD or arrow keys) it will only move from tile to tile at a certain speed. How could I implement this generally with pygame? (Similar to game movement of like Pokemon or NexusTk). Edit: I should probably note that I want it so that the player can only end a movement in a tile. He couldn't stop moving halfway inbetween a tile for example. Thanks for your time! Ryan

• Turning on the wireless card freezes Ubuntu 12.04

  I've been using Ubuntu 12.04 for close to a year. Occasionally after booting into Gnome 3, the desktop is unresponsive to cursor clicks. The mouse cursor moves but can't open menus. Also the network icon displays a red error badge instead of the usual gray x indicating that it is off. The only way I have found to solve this is to switch to a terminal shell (Ctrl-Alt-F5), login and kill gnome-session. This is an intermittent and occasional problem. Recently I moved house and set up this computer in my new apartment. Now I have for the first time a new and more difficult problem. Switching on the wireless card (wlan0) to connect to the wifi router causes the desktop to freeze. Switching to a terminal via Ctrl-Alt-F5 doesn't work. The only solution is a hard reboot from the power switch. How can I diagnose the second, more recent problem? Is there a solution? Cheers, Ryan

  Hi, I just upgraded my (remote) webserver to Lenny from Etch. and no real issue occurs except that I cannot reboot that server. (I can only start in a rescue mode) I recall that a MBR change performed and I am wondering if that could be the reason for this failure. Would someone know how I can revert this MBR change ?   I'm looking for a service, which can send me an alert if my program didn't ping(some http request) in X minutes. Pretty much like any service monitoring, but instead of service pinging my server I want, my program to ping the monitor service.   Today I bought a new gaming headset (Gx-Gaming Lychas), and when I tried to record some gameplay-comentary I noticed that there always is a static background noise, I just recorded an example so you • Exim - send certain "local" user mail to smtp

  I'm using Exim 3 and would like to know how to send some local addresses to the smtp server instead of Exim handling them as a localuser. They are local addresses in the sense that they have the same domain as listed in 'local_domains' in exim.conf. • Why does 3.5 mm audio out work through headphones but not through external speakers?

  I have a computer that has a 3.5 mm audio jack on the front of it. The computer itself has no speakers, so this is the only way to hear sound. If I plug headphones into it, the audio properly plays through the headphones, and if I plug in external speakers it used to play through them as well. Just today I turned on my computer and the audio no longer plays through the speakers, but if I plug in the headphones instead it works. The speakers aren't broken, as both the speakers and headphones work in my iPod and play music. I thought that 3.5 mm jacks could not send data back to the computer, and the computer had no way of differentiating between different devices plugged into the jack. If this is true, how is it that the computer plays audio through the headphones but not through speakers plugged into the same 3.5 mm jack, and both devices are functional? Or is my knowledge on 3.5 mm jacks incorrect? I don't believe drivers are important, as the same driver runs the 3.5 mm jack for all devices, but if necessary I can provide additional information. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
