  • JPanel components paint-time problem

    - by Tom Brito
    I'm having a problem that when my frame is shown (after a login dialog) the buttons are not on correct position, then in some miliseconds they go to the right position (the center of the panel with border layout). When I make a SSCCE, it works correct, but when I run my whole code I have this fast-miliseconds delay to the buttons to go to the correct place. Unfortunately, I can't post the whole code, but the method that shows the frame is: public void login(JComponent userView) { centerPanel.removeAll(); centerPanel.add(userView); centerPanel.revalidate(); centerPanel.repaint(); frame.setVisible(true); } What would cause this delay to the panel layout? (I'm running everything in the EDT) -- update In my machine, this SSCCE shows the layout problem in 2 of 10 times I run it: import java.awt.BorderLayout; import javax.swing.JButton; import javax.swing.JFrame; import javax.swing.JPanel; import javax.swing.SwingUtilities; public class TEST { public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception { SwingUtilities.invokeAndWait(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { System.out.println("Debug test..."); JPanel btnPnl = new JPanel(); btnPnl.add(new JButton("TEST")); JFrame f = new JFrame("TEST"); f.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); f.getContentPane().setLayout(new BorderLayout()); f.getContentPane().add(btnPnl); f.pack(); f.setSize(800, 600); f.setVisible(true); System.out.println("End debug test!"); } }); } } The button first appers in the up-left, and then it goes to the center. Please, note that I'm understand, not just correct. Is it a java bug? --update OK, so the SSCCE don't show the problem with you that tried till now. Maybe it's my computer performance problem. But this don't answer the question, I still think Java Swing is creating new threads for make the layout behind the scenes.

  • Access Denied Java FileWriter / FileInputStream

    - by Matt
    My program downloads a websites source code, modifies it, creates the file, and then reuploads it through the FTP. However, I receive the following error when trying to open the created file: java.io.FileNotFoundException: misc.html (Access is denied) at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(Unknown Source) at Manipulator.uploadSource(Manipulator.java:63) at Start.addPicture(Start.java:130) at Start$2.actionPerformed(Start.java:83) at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.AbstractButton$Handler.actionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.JComponent.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.retargetMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Window.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source) When I navigate to the folder directory and attempt to open "misc.html" with Notepad I receive Access is Denied. My code is fairly simple: File f = new File(page.sourceFileName); try { FileWriter out = new FileWriter(f); out.write(page.source); out.close(); } catch (IOException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } InputStream input = new FileInputStream(f); This is the vital excerpt from my program. I have copied this into a different test program and it works fine, I create a misc.html file and reopen it with both FileInputStream and manually. I would be worried about Administrator rights but the Test program works fine when I run it RIGHT after the problem program. I also have checked if the file exists and is a file with File methods and it is as well. Is this a result of me not closing a previous Input/Output properly? I've tried to check everything and I am fairly positive I close all streams as soon as they finish... Help! :)

    Hi, Is there any way to add a MouseListener to a Graphic object. I have this simple GUI that draw an oval. What I want is handling the event when the user clicks on the oval import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.MouseEvent; import java.awt.event.MouseListener; import javax.swing.*; public class Gui2 extends JFrame { JFrame frame = new JFrame(); MyDrawPanel drawpanel = new MyDrawPanel(); public static void main(String[] args) { Gui2 gui = new Gui2(); gui.go(); } public void go() { frame.getContentPane().add(drawpanel); // frame.addMouseListener(this); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setSize(300, 300); frame.setVisible(true); } } class MyDrawPanel extends JComponent implements MouseListener { public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { int red = (int) (Math.random() * 255); int green = (int) (Math.random() * 255); int blue = (int) (Math.random() * 255); Color startrandomColor = new Color(red, green, blue); red = (int) (Math.random() * 255); green = (int) (Math.random() * 255); blue = (int) (Math.random() * 255); Color endrandomColor = new Color(red, green, blue); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; this.addMouseListener(this); GradientPaint gradient = new GradientPaint(70, 70, startrandomColor, 150, 150, endrandomColor); g2d.setPaint(gradient); g2d.fillOval(70, 70, 100, 100); } @Override public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) { if ((e.getButton() == 1) && (e.getX() >= 70 && e.getX() <= 170 && e.getY() >= 70 && e .getY() <= 170)) { this.repaint(); // JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null,e.getX()+ "\n" + e.getY()); } } @Override public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mouseExited(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } @Override public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) { // TODO Auto-generated method stub } } This Works Except it fires when the click is within a virtual box around the oval. Could anyone help me to have it fire when the click is EXACTLY on the oval. Thanks in advance.

  • Two loops speeds drawing in a Jframe

    - by noahn567
    I have a program that requires two classes. The player-Names class, and the Player-Model class. I want the player-Names class to repaint every half second, and the Player-Model class to repaint 60 times per second because i want the movement to be smooth. The problem that i am having is that i want all of this to be done on one J-frame. How would i go about doing this? If you could lead me in the right direction or give me a little example that would be great! Thank you :). for some reason it wont let me post so i'm going to put in some random code import java.awt.Color; import java.awt.Font; import java.awt.Graphics; import java.awt.Graphics2D; import java.awt.RenderingHints; import javax.swing.JComponent; import javax.swing.JFrame; public class PlayerNames extends JFrame { static int connectionTimer = 0; static int connectionTimer2 = 0; static int reconnect = 0; static int reconnectValue = 1; static int x = 0; static int reconnectWait = connectionTimer + reconnectValue; private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L; public graph gg = new graph(); public graph g = new graph(); private static GameClient socketClient; private GameServer socketServer; public static void main(int width, int height) { PlayerNames tt = new PlayerNames(); // PlayerGraphics t = new PlayerGraphics(); tt.setSize(width, height); if (Game.ServerOwner == 1) { tt.setTitle("Server: " + Game.username); } else { tt.setTitle("Username: " + Game.username); } tt.setVisible(true); tt.getContentPane().add(tt.gg); tt.getContentPane().add(tt.g); tt.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); tt.setResizable(false); }

  • jframe adding own design jinternal frame error

    - by Van Minh
    I designed a title bar color on my JInternal frame. Then I took attempt to add it to my JFrame, but I cannot. Here is the code of my title bar: public class MyIFtitleBar extends BasicInternalFrameTitlePane { public MyIFtitleBar(JInternalFrame jif) { super(jif); } protected void paintTitleBackground(Graphics g){ g.setColor(Color.pink); g.fillRect(0, 0, getWidth(), getHeight()); } } Here is my JInternal frame. I tried running it in its psvm method, that worked! public class FitnessProg_Frame extends javax.swing.JInternalFrame { public FitnessProg_Frame() { initComponents(); this.setUI(new BasicInternalFrameUI(this){ @Override protected JComponent createNorthPane(JInternalFrame jif) { return new MyIFtitleBar(jif); } }); } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") private void initComponents() { setBackground(new java.awt.Color(255, 255, 255)); setBorder(new javax.swing.border.MatteBorder(null)); setTitle("Fitness Progarm"); setPreferredSize(new java.awt.Dimension(507, 304)); pack(); } } But when I add it to my JFrame I get an error: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException Here is my JFrame code: public class NewJFrame extends javax.swing.JFrame { public NewJFrame() { initComponents(); FitnessProg_Frame ff = new FitnessProg_Frame(); ff.setVisible(true); mydes.add(ff); // this line made errors } @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") private void initComponents() { mydes = new javax.swing.JDesktopPane(); setDefaultCloseOperation(javax.swing.WindowConstants.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); javax.swing.GroupLayout mydesLayout = new javax.swing.GroupLayout(mydes); mydes.setLayout(mydesLayout); mydesLayout.setHorizontalGroup( mydesLayout.createParallelGroup(javax.swing.GroupLayout.Alignment.LEADING) .addGap(0, 400, Short.MAX_VALUE) ); mydesLayout.setVerticalGroup( mydesLayout.createParallelGroup(javax.swing.GroupLayout.Alignment.LEADING) .addGap(0, 300, Short.MAX_VALUE) ); getContentPane().add(mydes, java.awt.BorderLayout.CENTER); pack(); } public static void main(String args[]) { try { for (javax.swing.UIManager.LookAndFeelInfo info : javax.swing.UIManager.getInstalledLookAndFeels()) { if ("Nimbus".equals(info.getName())) { javax.swing.UIManager.setLookAndFeel(info.getClassName()); break; } } } catch (ClassNotFoundException ex) { java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (InstantiationException ex) { java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (IllegalAccessException ex) { java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } catch (javax.swing.UnsupportedLookAndFeelException ex) { java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger(NewJFrame.class.getName()).log(java.util.logging.Level.SEVERE, null, ex); } java.awt.EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { new NewJFrame().setVisible(true); } }); } private javax.swing.JDesktopPane mydes; }

  • JFrame does not refresh after deleting an image

    - by dajackal
    Hi! I'm working for the first time with images in a JFrame, and I have some problems. I succeeded in putting an image on my JFrame, and now i want after 2 seconds to remove my image from the JFrame. But after 2 seconds, the image does not disappear, unless I resize the frame or i minimize and after that maximize the frame. Help me if you can. Thanks. Here is the code: File f = new File("2.jpg"); System.out.println("Picture " + f.getAbsolutePath()); BufferedImage image = ImageIO.read(f); MyBufferedImage img = new MyBufferedImage(image); img.resize(400, 300); img.setSize(400, 300); img.setLocation(50, 50); getContentPane().add(img); this.setSize(600, 400); this.setLocationRelativeTo(null); this.setVisible(true); Thread.sleep(2000); System.out.println("2 seconds over"); getContentPane().remove(img); Here is the MyBufferedImage class: public class MyBufferedImage extends JComponent{ private BufferedImage image; private int nPaint; private int avgTime; private long previousSecondsTime; public MyBufferedImage(BufferedImage b) { super(); this.image = b; this.nPaint = 0; this.avgTime = 0; this.previousSecondsTime = System.currentTimeMillis(); } @Override public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D g2D = (Graphics2D) g; g2D.setColor(Color.BLACK); g2D.fillRect(0, 0, this.getWidth(), this.getHeight()); long currentTimeA = System.currentTimeMillis(); //g2D.drawImage(this.image, 320, 0, 0, 240, 0, 0, 640, 480, null); g2D.drawImage(image, 0,0, null); long currentTimeB = System.currentTimeMillis(); this.avgTime += currentTimeB - currentTimeA; this.nPaint++; if (currentTimeB - this.previousSecondsTime > 1000) { System.out.format("Drawn FPS: %d\n", nPaint++); System.out.format("Average time of drawings in the last sec.: %.1f ms\n", (double) this.avgTime / this.nPaint++); this.previousSecondsTime = currentTimeB; this.avgTime = 0; this.nPaint = 0; } } }

  • How do I make my custom Swing component visible?

    - by Alex
    I have no idea why it won't show. First I create an instance of the component and then add it to a certain element in a two-dimensional JPanel array. Then I loop through that array and add each JPanel to another JPanel container which is to hold all the JPanels. I then add that final container to my JFrame window and set visibility to true, it should be visible? public class View extends JFrame { Board gameBoard; JFrame gameWindow = new JFrame("Chess"); JPanel gamePanel = new JPanel(); JPanel[][] squarePanel = new JPanel[8][8]; JMenuBar gameMenu = new JMenuBar(); JButton restartGame = new JButton("Restart"); JButton pauseGame = new JButton("Pause"); JButton log = new JButton("Log"); View(Board board){ gameWindow.setDefaultCloseOperation(EXIT_ON_CLOSE); gameWindow.setSize(400, 420); gameWindow.getContentPane().add(gamePanel, BorderLayout.CENTER); gameWindow.getContentPane().add(gameMenu, BorderLayout.NORTH); gameMenu.add(restartGame); gameMenu.add(pauseGame); gameMenu.add(log); gameBoard = board; drawBoard(gameBoard); gameWindow.setResizable(false); gameWindow.setVisible(true); } public void drawBoard(Board board){ for(int row = 0; row < 8; row++){ for(int col = 0; col < 8; col++){ Box box = new Box(board.getSquare(col, row).getColour(), col, row); squarePanel[col][row] = new JPanel(); squarePanel[col][row].add(box); } } for(JPanel[] col : squarePanel){ for(JPanel square : col){ gamePanel.add(square); } } } } @SuppressWarnings("serial") class Box extends JComponent{ Color boxColour; int col, row; public Box(Color boxColour, int col, int row){ this.boxColour = boxColour; this.col = col; this.row = row; repaint(); } protected void paintComponent(Graphics drawBox){ drawBox.setColor(boxColour); drawBox.drawRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); drawBox.fillRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); } } A final question as well. Notice how each Box component has a position, what happens to the position when I add the component to a JPanel and add the JPanel to my JFrame? Does it still have the same position in relation to the other Box components?

  • Help with simple frame, and graphics in Java

    - by Crystal
    For hw, I'm trying to create a "CustomButton" that has a frame and in that frame, I draw two triangles, and a square over it. It's supposed to give the user the effect of a button press once it is depressed. So for starters, I am trying to set up the beginning graphics, drawing two triangles, and a square. The problem I have is although I set my frame to 200, 200, and the triangles I have drawn I think to the correct ends of my frame size, when I run the program, I have to extend my window to make the whole artwork, my "CustomButton," viewable. Is that normal? Thanks. Code: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; public class CustomButton { public static void main(String[] args) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { CustomButtonFrame frame = new CustomButtonFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setVisible(true); } }); } } class CustomButtonFrame extends JFrame { // constructor for CustomButtonFrame public CustomButtonFrame() { setTitle("Custom Button"); setSize(DEFAULT_WIDTH, DEFAULT_HEIGHT); CustomButtonSetup buttonSetup = new CustomButtonSetup(); this.add(buttonSetup); } private static final int DEFAULT_WIDTH = 200; private static final int DEFAULT_HEIGHT = 200; } class CustomButtonSetup extends JComponent { public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g; // first triangle coords int x[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; int y[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; x[0] = 0; y[0] = 0; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 0; x[2] = 0; y[2] = 200; Polygon firstTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); // second triangle coords x[0] = 0; y[0] = 200; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 200; x[2] = 200; y[2] = 0; Polygon secondTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); g2.drawPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.setColor(Color.WHITE); g2.fillPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.drawPolygon(secondTriangle); g2.setColor(Color.GRAY); g2.fillPolygon(secondTriangle); // draw rectangle 10 pixels off border g2.drawRect(10, 10, 180, 180); } public static final int TRIANGLE_SIDES = 3; }

When thrown nothing is painted. Another interesting thing is the timing of the throwing. I am unable to find any logical patern, as sometimes it is thrown as soon as I initiate the class and sometimes it needs more then five minutes. In addition to this, as far as I tested there is no single action that calls repaint() that triggers it or rather all do. I am new to Java and all the other exceptions had the class and row number of where they were thrown so I don't know what to do here. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The code is enormous so I'll put just the paint method and if anything additional is needed please say so. @Override public void paint(Graphics g) { if(documentLoaded && showingOnScreen){ try{ rad = (int)(radInit+zoom*faktorRad); //max rad = 20 super.paint(g); Graphics2D g2d = (Graphics2D) g; paintElements(g2d); } catch(NullPointerException nulle){ } } } edit: There is no array in my class so i can't check any index. I think that this exception is thrown from a library I use, but it's a .jar file and I don't know how to open it.

  • Wrong background colors in Swing ListCellRenderer

    - by Johannes Rössel
    I'm currently trying to write a custom ListCellRenderer for a JList. Unfortunately, nearly all examples simply use DefaultListCellRenderer as a JLabel and be done with it; I needed a JPanel, however (since I need to display a little more info than just an icon and one line of text). Now I have a problem with the background colors, specifically with the Nimbus PLAF. Seemingly the background color I get from list.getBackground() is white, but paints as a shade of gray (or blueish gray). Outputting the color I get yields the following: Background color: DerivedColor(color=255,255,255 parent=nimbusLightBackground offsets=0.0,0.0,0.0,0 pColor=255,255,255 However, as can be seen, this isn't what gets painted. It obviously works fine for the selected item. Currently I even have every component I put into the JPanel the cell renderer returns set to opaque and with the correct foreground and background colors—to no avail. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here? ETA: Example code which hopefully runs. public class ParameterListCellRenderer implements ListCellRenderer { @Override public Component getListCellRendererComponent(JList list, Object value, int index, boolean isSelected, boolean cellHasFocus) { // some values we need Border border = null; Color foreground, background; if (isSelected) { background = list.getSelectionBackground(); foreground = list.getSelectionForeground(); } else { background = list.getBackground(); foreground = list.getForeground(); } if (cellHasFocus) { if (isSelected) { border = UIManager.getBorder("List.focusSelectedCellHighlightBorder"); } if (border == null) { border = UIManager.getBorder("List.focusCellHighlightBorder"); } } else { border = UIManager.getBorder("List.cellNoFocusBorder"); } System.out.println("Background color: " + background.toString()); JPanel outerPanel = new JPanel(new BorderLayout()); setProperties(outerPanel, foreground, background); outerPanel.setBorder(border); JLabel nameLabel = new JLabel("Factory name here"); setProperties(nameLabel, foreground, background); outerPanel.add(nameLabel, BorderLayout.PAGE_START); Box innerPanel = new Box(BoxLayout.PAGE_AXIS); setProperties(innerPanel, foreground, background); innerPanel.setAlignmentX(Box.LEFT_ALIGNMENT); innerPanel.setBorder(BorderFactory.createEmptyBorder(0, 10, 0, 0)); JLabel label = new JLabel("param: value"); label.setFont(label.getFont().deriveFont( AffineTransform.getScaleInstance(0.95, 0.95))); setProperties(label, foreground, background); innerPanel.add(label); outerPanel.add(innerPanel, BorderLayout.CENTER); return outerPanel; } private void setProperties(JComponent component, Color foreground, Color background) { component.setOpaque(true); component.setForeground(foreground); component.setBackground(background); } } The weird thing is, if I do if (isSelected) { background = new Color(list.getSelectionBackground().getRGB()); foreground = new Color(list.getSelectionForeground().getRGB()); } else { background = new Color(list.getBackground().getRGB()); foreground = new Color(list.getForeground().getRGB()); } it magically works. So maybe the DerivedColor with nimbusLightBackground I'm getting there may have trouble?

  • Not sure why I'm getting a NullPointerException when creating a Swing component

    - by Alex
    The error occurs when creating the Box object. public void drawBoard(Board board){ for(int row = 0; row < 8; row++){ for(int col = 0; col < 8; col++){ Box box = new Box(board.getSquare(col, row).getColour(), col, row); squarePanel[col][row].add(box); } } Board is given from the Game constructor here (another class): public Game() throws Throwable{ View graphics = new View(); board = new Board(); board.setDefault(); graphics.drawBoard(board); } The Board constructor looks like this: public Board(){ grid = new Square[COLUMNS][ROWS]; for(int row = 0; row < 8; row++){ for(int col = 0; col < 8; col++){ grid[col][row] = new Square(this); } } for(int row = 0; row < 8; row++){ for(int col = 0; col < 4; col++){ int odd = 2*col + 1; int even = 2*col; getSquare(odd, row).setColour(Color.BLACK); getSquare(even, row).setColour(Color.WHITE); } } } And finally the Box class: class Box extends JComponent{ Color boxColour; int col, row; public Box(Color boxColour, int col, int row){ this.boxColour = boxColour; this.col = col; this.row = row; repaint(); } public void paint(Graphics drawBox){ drawBox.setColor(boxColour); drawBox.drawRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); drawBox.fillRect(50*col, 50*row, 50, 50); } } So while looping through the array, it uses the two integers as coordinates to create the Box. The coordinates are referenced and then repaint() is run. The box also gets the colour, using the two integers, from the Square in the Board class. Since the colour is already set, before the drawBoard(board) method is run, that shouldn't be a problem, right? this might be simple enough as just inserting the right method but i cant seem to get it right. i have a simple program with two buttons. each one changes the picture above them. but anytime i click the buttons i get some odd awt event queue error. i think its because im trying to add something to a frame after its already been made. package icnon; import javax.imageio.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class FrameIconExample extends JFrame implements ActionListener { JLabel j; JPanel p, l, k; JButton picOne, picTwo; Container cPane; public FrameIconExample() { JButton picOne = new JButton("picOne"); JButton picTwo = new JButton("picTwo"); picOne.setName("picOne"); picTwo.setName("picTwo"); picOne.addActionListener(this); picTwo.addActionListener(this); JPanel p = new JPanel(new GridLayout(2, 1)); JPanel l = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); JPanel k = new JPanel(new FlowLayout()); cPane = getContentPane(); j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon("../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg")); l.add(j); k.add(picOne); k.add(picTwo); p.add(l); p.add(k); add(p); } public static void main(String[] args) { FrameIconExample frame = new FrameIconExample(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setSize(new Dimension(300, 800)); frame.setTitle("Frame Icon Example"); // Display the form frame.setVisible(true); } @Override public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { JButton temp = (JButton) e.getSource(); String src = "../meet/src/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; //System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picOne")) { src = "../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("1"); } if(temp.getName().equalsIgnoreCase("picTwo")) { src = "../icontest/images/Majken Kruse portrait - john.jpg"; System.out.println(src + " " + temp.getName()); Icon img; j = new JLabel(new ImageIcon(src)); l.add(j); System.out.println("2"); } } } its all just the one program so if you copy paste it into an editor you can see the stack trace. but the source of the image files wont be there. does anyone know how id do it? or where im goin wrong? stack trace: ../meet/src/images/beautiful-closeup-portrait-photography.jpg picOne Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.lang.NullPointerException at icnon.FrameIconExample.actionPerformed(FrameIconExample.java:68) at javax.swing.AbstractButton.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.AbstractButton$Handler.actionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.fireActionPerformed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.DefaultButtonModel.setPressed(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.plaf.basic.BasicButtonListener.mouseReleased(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at javax.swing.JComponent.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.processEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.retargetMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.processMouseEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.LightweightDispatcher.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Container.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Window.dispatchEventImpl(Unknown Source) at java.awt.Component.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventQueue.dispatchEvent(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpOneEventForFilters(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForFilter(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEventsForHierarchy(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.pumpEvents(Unknown Source) at java.awt.EventDispatchThread.run(Unknown Source)

  • Rotating a NetBeans Visual Library Widget

    - by Geertjan
    Trying to create a widget which, when clicked, rotates slightly further on each subsequent click: Above, the bird where the mouse is visible has been clicked a few times and so has rotated a bit further on each click. The code isn't quite right yet and I'm hoping someone will take this code, try it out, and help with a nice solution! public class BirdScene extends Scene {     public BirdScene() {         addChild(new LayerWidget(this));         getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createAcceptAction(new AcceptProvider() {             public ConnectorState isAcceptable(Widget widget, Point point, Transferable transferable) {                 Image dragImage = getImageFromTransferable(transferable);                 if (dragImage != null) {                     JComponent view = getView();                     Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) view.getGraphics();                     Rectangle visRect = view.getVisibleRect();                     view.paintImmediately(visRect.x, visRect.y, visRect.width, visRect.height);                     g2.drawImage(dragImage,                             AffineTransform.getTranslateInstance(point.getLocation().getX(),                             point.getLocation().getY()),                             null);                     return ConnectorState.ACCEPT;                 } else {                     return ConnectorState.REJECT;                 }             }             public void accept(Widget widget, final Point point, Transferable transferable) {                 addChild(new BirdWidget(getScene(), getImageFromTransferable(transferable), point));             }         }));     }     private Image getImageFromTransferable(Transferable transferable) {         Object o = null;         try {             o = transferable.getTransferData(DataFlavor.imageFlavor);         } catch (IOException ex) {         } catch (UnsupportedFlavorException ex) {         }         return o instanceof Image ? (Image) o : null;     }     private class BirdWidget extends IconNodeWidget {         private int theta = 0;         public BirdWidget(Scene scene, Image imageFromTransferable, Point point) {             super(scene);             setImage(imageFromTransferable);             setPreferredLocation(point);             setCheckClipping(true);             getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createMoveAction());             getActions().addAction(ActionFactory.createSelectAction(new SelectProvider() {                 public boolean isAimingAllowed(Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     return true;                 }                 public boolean isSelectionAllowed(Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     return true;                 }                 public void select(final Widget widget, Point localLocation, boolean invertSelection) {                     theta = (theta + 100) % 360;                     repaint();                     getScene().validate();                 }             }));         }         @Override         public void paintWidget() {             final Image image = getImageWidget().getImage();             Graphics2D g = getGraphics();             g.setRenderingHint(RenderingHints.KEY_ANTIALIASING, RenderingHints.VALUE_ANTIALIAS_ON);             Rectangle bounds = getClientArea();             AffineTransform newXform = g.getTransform();             int xRot = image.getWidth(null) / 2;             int yRot = image.getWidth(null) / 2;             newXform.rotate(theta * Math.PI / 180, xRot, yRot);             g.setTransform(newXform);             g.drawImage(image, bounds.x, bounds.y, null);         }     } } The problem relates to refreshing the scene after the rotation. But it would help if someone would just take the code above, add it to their own application, try it out, see the problem for yourself, and develop it a bit further!

  • Injection with google guice does not work anymore after obfuscation with proguard

    - by sme
    Has anyone ever tried to combine the use of google guice with obfuscation (in particular proguard)? The obfuscated version of my code does not work with google guice as guice complains about missing type parameters. This information seems to be erased by the transformation step that proguard does, even when the relevant classes are excluded from the obfuscation. The stack trace looks like this: com.google.inject.CreationException: Guice creation errors: 1) Cannot inject a Provider that has no type parameter while locating com.google.inject.Provider for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setPasswordPanelProvider(SourceFile:499) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setPasswordPanelProvider(SourceFile:499) while locating de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.o.a(SourceFile:38) 2) Cannot inject a Provider that has no type parameter while locating com.google.inject.Provider for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setWindTurbineAccessGroupProvider(SourceFile:509) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel.setWindTurbineAccessGroupProvider(SourceFile:509) while locating de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.AdminUserCommonPanel for parameter 0 at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.b.k.setParentPanel(SourceFile:65) at de.repower.lvs.client.admin.user.administration.o.a(SourceFile:38) 2 errors at com.google.inject.internal.Errors.throwCreationExceptionIfErrorsExist(Errors.java:354) at com.google.inject.InjectorBuilder.initializeStatically(InjectorBuilder.java:152) at com.google.inject.InjectorBuilder.build(InjectorBuilder.java:105) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:92) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:69) at com.google.inject.Guice.createInjector(Guice.java:59) I tried to create a small example (without using guice) that seems to reproduce the problem: package de.repower.common; import java.lang.reflect.Method; import java.lang.reflect.ParameterizedType; import java.lang.reflect.Type; class SomeClass<S> { } public class ParameterizedTypeTest { public void someMethod(SomeClass<Integer> param) { System.out.println("value: " + param); System.setProperty("my.dummmy.property", "hallo"); } private static void checkParameterizedMethod(ParameterizedTypeTest testObject) { System.out.println("checking parameterized method ..."); Method[] methods = testObject.getClass().getMethods(); for (Method method : methods) { if (method.getName().equals("someMethod")) { System.out.println("Found method " + method.getName()); Type[] types = method.getGenericParameterTypes(); Type parameterType = types[0]; if (parameterType instanceof ParameterizedType) { Type parameterizedType = ((ParameterizedType) parameterType).getActualTypeArguments()[0]; System.out.println("Parameter: " + parameterizedType); System.out.println("Class: " + ((Class) parameterizedType).getName()); } else { System.out.println("Failed: type ist not instance of ParameterizedType"); } } } } public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Starting ..."); try { ParameterizedTypeTest someInstance = new ParameterizedTypeTest(); checkParameterizedMethod(someInstance); } catch (SecurityException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } } If you run this code unsbfuscated, the output looks like this: Starting ... checking parameterized method ... Found method someMethod Parameter: class java.lang.Integer Class: java.lang.Integer But running the version obfuscated with proguard yields: Starting ... checking parameterized method ... • Creating ActionEvent object for CustomButton in Java

    - by Crystal
    For a hw assignment, we were supposed to create a custom button to get familiar with swing and responding to events. We were also to make this button an event source which confuses me. I have an ArrayList to keep track of listeners that would register to listen to my CustomButton. What I am getting confused on is how to notify the listeners. My teacher hinted at having a notify and overriding actionPerformed which I tried doing, but then I wasn't sure how to create an ActionEvent object looking at the constructor documentation. The source, id, string all confuses me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! code: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.util.List; import java.util.ArrayList; public class CustomButton { public static void main(String[] args) { EventQueue.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { CustomButtonFrame frame = new CustomButtonFrame(); frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); frame.setVisible(true); } }); } public void addActionListener(ActionListener al) { listenerList.add(al); } public void removeActionListener(ActionListener al) { listenerList.remove(al); } public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { System.out.println("Button Clicked!"); } private void notifyListeners() { ActionEvent event = new ActionEvent(CONFUSED HERE!!!!; for (ActionListener action : listenerList) { action.actionPerfomed(event); } } List<ActionListener> listenerList = new ArrayList<ActionListener>(); } class CustomButtonFrame extends JFrame { // constructor for CustomButtonFrame public CustomButtonFrame() { setTitle("Custom Button"); CustomButtonSetup buttonSetup = new CustomButtonSetup(); this.add(buttonSetup); this.pack(); } } class CustomButtonSetup extends JComponent { public CustomButtonSetup() { ButtonAction buttonClicked = new ButtonAction(); this.addMouseListener(buttonClicked); } // because frame includes borders and insets, use this method public Dimension getPreferredSize() { return new Dimension(200, 200); } public void paintComponent(Graphics g) { Graphics2D g2 = (Graphics2D) g; // first triangle coords int x[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; int y[] = new int[TRIANGLE_SIDES]; x[0] = 0; y[0] = 0; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 0; x[2] = 0; y[2] = 200; Polygon firstTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); // second triangle coords x[0] = 0; y[0] = 200; x[1] = 200; y[1] = 200; x[2] = 200; y[2] = 0; Polygon secondTriangle = new Polygon(x, y, TRIANGLE_SIDES); g2.drawPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.setColor(firstColor); g2.fillPolygon(firstTriangle); g2.drawPolygon(secondTriangle); g2.setColor(secondColor); g2.fillPolygon(secondTriangle); // draw rectangle 10 pixels off border int s1[] = new int[RECT_SIDES]; int s2[] = new int[RECT_SIDES]; s1[0] = 5; s2[0] = 5; s1[1] = 195; s2[1] = 5; s1[2] = 195; s2[2] = 195; s1[3] = 5; s2[3] = 195; Polygon rectangle = new Polygon(s1, s2, RECT_SIDES); g2.drawPolygon(rectangle); g2.setColor(thirdColor); g2.fillPolygon(rectangle); } private class ButtonAction implements MouseListener { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) { System.out.println("Click!"); firstColor = Color.GRAY; secondColor = Color.WHITE; repaint(); } public void mouseReleased(MouseEvent e) { System.out.println("Released!"); firstColor = Color.WHITE; secondColor = Color.GRAY; repaint(); } public void mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) {} public void mouseExited(MouseEvent e) {} public void mouseClicked(MouseEvent e) {} } public static final int TRIANGLE_SIDES = 3; public static final int RECT_SIDES = 4; private Color firstColor = Color.WHITE; private Color secondColor = Color.DARK_GRAY; private Color thirdColor = Color.LIGHT_GRAY; }

  • Multiple Components in a JTree Node Renderer & Node Editor

    - by Samad Lotia
    I am attempting to create a JTree where a node has several components: a JPanel that holds a JCheckBox, followed by a JLabel, then a JComboBox. I have attached the code at the bottom if one wishes to run it. Fortunately the JTree correctly renders the components. However when I click on the JComboBox, the node disappears; if I click on the JCheckBox, it works fine. It seems that I am doing something wrong with how the TreeCellEditor is being set up. How could I resolve this issue? Am I going beyond the capabilities of JTree? Here's a quick overview of the code I have posted below. The class EntityListDialog merely creates the user interface. It is not useful to understand it other than the createTree method. Node is the data structure that holds information about each node in the JTree. All Nodes have a name, but samples may be null or an empty array. This should be evident by looking at EntityListDialog's createTree method. The name is used as the text of the JCheckBox. If samples is non-empty, it is used as the contents of the JCheckBox. NodeWithSamplesRenderer renders Nodes whose samples are non-empty. It creates the complicated user interface with the JPanel consisting of the JCheckBox and the JComboBox. NodeWithoutSamplesRenderer creates just a JCheckBox when samples is empty. RendererDispatcher decides whether to use a NodeWithSamplesRenderer or a NodeWithoutSamplesRenderer. This entirely depends on whether Node has a non-empty samples member or not. It essentially functions as a means for the NodeWith*SamplesRenderer to plug into the JTree. Code listing: import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import java.util.*; import javax.swing.*; import javax.swing.tree.*; public class EntityListDialog { final JDialog dialog; final JTree entitiesTree; public EntityListDialog() { dialog = new JDialog((Frame) null, "Test"); entitiesTree = createTree(); JScrollPane entitiesTreeScrollPane = new JScrollPane(entitiesTree); JCheckBox pathwaysCheckBox = new JCheckBox("Do additional searches");
