  • Bash script getting automatically deleted from Ubuntu 12.04 Server?

    I'm running a bash script on an ubuntu 12.04 through cron. The script works fine for a few weeks (runs daily backups of websites, mysql databases, and copies to Amazon S3). However, twice now I've noticed that backups stopped happening. Both times the backup script (backupscript.sh) located in my home folder was no longer there. No one else has access to this server, so nothing was manually changed on the server and no one deleted the file by mistake. The cron job (nano /etc/crontab) still references this script, but the script itself disappears. What could cause this to happen? Does Ubuntu delete the script if it runs into some sort of error?

  • Iptables: how do I LOG what's not being ACCEPTED and limit what gets logged?

    How do I log what's not being accepted by the following rule: iptables -A OUTPUT -p icmp --icmp-type 3 -m -limit --limit 10/minute -j ACCEPT And how do I limit what's being logged because I don't want to log 1000s of pings? My first thought was: iptables -A OUTPUT -p icmp --icmp-type 3 -m -limit --limit 50/day -j LOG iptables -A OUTPUT -p icmp --icmp-type 3 -m -limit --limit 10/minute -j ACCEPT But that doesn't seem right to me. I think this limits the logging to 50/day but not necessarily what is not being accepted, or am I wrong?

  • Locale number formatting issue windows 2008

    On a project we have multiple servers running windows 2008. The servers are using the Russian locale. We have several programs that use floating point numbers but the fractional part of the number on SOME servers is getting truncated. Through the regional settings each machine has: Locale: Russian Current Location: United States Decimal Symbol: . (period) I've tried distributing the changes through "Copy Settings" and even though the procedure works it seems like the settings aren't actually being propagated. So next I went into the registry. There is a key called "sDecimal" and in all cases on all servers the value in the key is '.' There is no difference that I can find between the servers that DO have correct decimal formatting and DO NOT. Any advice on where I can look for a problem like this?

  • iptables: How to create a rule for a single website that does not apply to other websites?

    Virtual Dedicated Server hosts 10 websites. 1 firewall made with iptables If one of those 10 websites gets hit by too many ping requests coming from one IP address, how do I limit or drop it without dropping it for the other 9 websites? Do I create a firewall for every website ? If so, how? Or is it better to change my rules? If so, how? Thank you. Let me know if more info is needed.

  • Giving SSH access to a user, and security issues.

    Okay, so I have a VPS and I made an account for a friend so he can host his own domains (using the reseller features in DirectAdmin). He's asking for SSH access, and I know that this is probably a bad idea. Does he have access to my whole server, such as executing commands, accessing my domains that I host on my server? I logged into my SSH using his account details and it let me navigate around all of the root folders/files, and his account is under /home/AccountName/. Is there anyway to restrict his access to his folder only? And the commands he can use?

  • How to add entries to combobox in Word XP

    I'm trying to follow the following instructions to add a combobox to a form and add some values to it for the user to pick: http://office.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/create-forms-that-users-complete-in-word-HP005230270.aspx I've created a .dot and then dragged a combobox onto the document. When I double-click on it though, it opens up the VBA editor. Do I have to add the items programatically as per the following question How do I add a combobox in Word? or is it possible to do this using the UI? The other question/answer refers to creating a form. Is there a step I've missed between creating a .dot to then create a form somehow before adding form elements to it? Right clicking gives the following menu options: Cut Copy Paste properties View code Combo Box Object - Edit or Convert Format Control Hyperlink Choosing edit allows me to type some text onto the visible part of the control, but doesn't allow me to add multiple options Right-clicking and selecting properties opens the following:

  • SVN Checkout error on large repositories

    I wonder if anyone can help me. We have recently migrated our Subversion repository from a VisualSVN Server on Windows to a subversion server on CentOS. The migration was succesfull however we are getting the following error message Error REPORT of svn'/svn/MangoRepository/!svn/vcc/default': Could not read chunk size: Error connection was closed by server (http://servername) Now the workaround for this is simply to perform a update on the repo and it will contine where is left off. Im just wondering if anyone was a permanent fix for this as it can be quite frustrating to repeat my self to 60-70 developers.

  • ASP.NET MVC: An Error has occured when trying to create a controller

    I have got the following error a few times in my MVC applications, and have only managed to get past it by recreating my entire solution from scratch. The error message says make sure there is a paramaterless public constructor, but of course there is one. What else could this error refer to?   • What is the best way to slide a panel in WPF?

    I have a fairly simple UserControl that I have made (pardon my Xaml I am just learning WPF) and I want to slide the off the screen. To do so I am animating a translate transform (I also tried making the Panel the child of a canvas and animating the X position with the same results), but the panel moves very jerkily, even on a fairly fast new computer. What is the best way to slide in and out (preferably with KeySplines so that it moves with inertia) without getting the jerkyness. I only have 8 buttons on the panel, so I didn't think it would be too much of a problem.     When a Validator (i.e. StringValidator, NumberValidator, etc) dispatches an invalid event due to validation failure, the errorString property of the source control (i.e. TextInput) is set to a non-empty string which creates a red border around the control and shows an toolTip (errorTip) ONLY when the mouse hovers over the control. Question: Can you force immediate display of the toolTip (errorTip) rather than waiting for the user to hover over the control? If so, how?

  • visual studio 2010: The Breakpoint will not currently be hit: No symbols have been loaded for this d

    I am using VS2010, and Silverlight 4. When I run my code the debugging does not work (I get the above error on my breakpoints. When I clean my solution a warning comes up saying that the system cannot find the file specified (a project dll). It is looking in the right path (..\debug), but there is no dll present. I started a new Silverlight 4 project, and get the same error. Sometime's the debugging does work (I am not sure if/what anything changed, but on one occasion I was surprised that my breakpoints worked. After changing one thing the breakpoints stopped working)

    So I have a duration in seconds of a video and I would like to display that duration in Razor. Currently I am using @TimeSpan.FromSeconds(item.Duration).ToString() However the rest of the code I am using uses @Html.DisplayFor(modelItem => item.Description) Is there way to get the duration (currently an int) to display a as a timespan? using the @Html.DisplayFor syntax. The item.duration is pulling form a Entity Framework model which is held as a int in the database.

  • DataForm commit button is not enabled when data changed.

    This is a weird problem. I am using a dataform, and when I edit the data the save button is enabled, but the cancel button is not. After looking around a bit I have found that I have to implement the IEditableObject in order to cancel an edit. Great I did that (and it all works), but now the commit button (Save) is grayed out, lol. Anyone have any idea's why the commit button will not activate any more?   • Blackberry support for Forms Authentication - ASP.NET MVC app

    I'm writing an ASP.NET MVC application that uses Forms Authentication. The target clients are a variety of mobile web browsers. When I use the BlackBerry 8530 simulator my MVC app authenticates as expected. I can visit pages whose controller methods are decorated with the [Authorize] attribute - no problem - they display and therefore I assume my Forms Authentication is working correctly. Using a physical Windows Mobile device to browse my site, I have the same experience as the BB simulator, the forms authentication works as I would expect. BUT when I try to visit the site using a Blackberry 8900 physical device the Login page keeps on looping back when I click the Login page. The device is not retaining it's "authenticated" status. I added code to verify this and I can see that: Request.IsAuthenticated: False User.Identity.IsAuthenticated: False So my question is what next steps can I take to try and find out why the Blackberry 8900 is losing it's authentication status. Is this cookie related? Anyone have any ideas? Cheers Derek

I'm doing this on Google App Engine, and I'm not sure if the Pyparsing library is available, but maybe I could include it with my app if it is the best solution. Currently I'm creating my own MyHeaderParser object and using it with reduce() on the header string. It's working, but very fragile.   • OnSelectedIndexChange only fires on second click when using custom page validation script

    Okay.. this is hard to explain, so here it goes. I have an update panel which contains a number of controls. The update panel is triggered by the OnSelectedIndexChanged event of a dropdownlist called: ddlUSCitizenshipStatus. It works as expected when I selected a new item. However, if I leave ddlUSCitizenshipStatus with the default value, and then click "submit" button on the page, the requiredfieldvalidators say there is an error on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus (which it should, as I never selected a value). So I then choose a value, the error message goes away on ddlUSCitizenshipStatus, however the updatepanel does not refresh. I've debugged this locally and the OnSelectedIndexChanged event for ddlUSCitizenshipStatus does not fire. If I choose an item in the ddlUSCitizenshipStatus list a second time, the OnSelectedIndexChanged server event fires and the update panel refreshes and works as expected. The issue is, I have to select an item in ddlUSCitizenshipStatus twice, after failed validation, before the updatepanel it's sitting in updates. The submit button on the page looks like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" OnClientClick="javascript: return ValidatePage();" /> If I remove my custom OnClientClick script, making the submit button look like this: <asp:LinkButton ID="btnSubmitPage1" runat="server" CssClass="continueButton" OnClick="btnSubmitPage1_Click" CausesValidation="true" ValidationGroup="valGrpAdditionalInformation" /> The dropdownlist, update panel, and reguiredfieldvalidator all work as expected. However, I need to run that custom "ValidatePage()" script when the button is clicked. Below is what my ValidatePage script looks like. I've been troubleshooting this for more hours than I can count.... I hope someone is able to help me.   • Flex HDividedBox Divider backgroundColor

    Is there an easy way to set the backgroundColor of a HDividedBox's (or VDividedBox's) BoxDivider object(s)? A BoxDivider is the "divider" that has the drag handle on it. By default, the BoxDivider is transparent with the little handle image on it. There is a dividerSkin style that defaults to mx.skin.BoxDividerSkin which is a reference to a symbol in the Assets.swf file. Any ideas? Do I have to make an alternate skin? Is that my only option? Googling this led me to many solutions that were weird and hacky and frankly didn't seem to work. Thanks.

I have spent the better part of today trying to figure out how to change the binding in my code to swap this out when I needed (lets say when I change the language via drop down).
