  • "No caching mode page present" when USB flash disk attached

    - by evgeny9
When attaching a USB flash disk (NTFS formatted) to a laptop with Ubuntu Server 12.04 on board, I get following messages: [ 3572.355603] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present [ 3572.355640] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through [ 3572.361599] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present [ 3572.361636] sd 2:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through I get them right in the terminal, so that I should press Ctrl+C to proceed with working (entering commands). Is it normal or do I have to setup Caching mode somehow? Thank you.

  • Working with Sub-Optimal Disk Configurations (Making the best of what you’ve got)

    - by Jonathan Kehayias
This is the first post in a what will be a series of posts on working with a sub-optimal disk configuration to squeeze as much performance out of it as possible.  You might ask what a Sub-Optimal Disk Configuration?  In this case it is a Dell Powervault MD3000 with 15 Seagate Barracuda ES.2 SAS 1 TB 7.2K RPM disks (Model Number ST31000640SS).  This equates to just under 14TB of raw storage that can configured into a number of RAID configurations.  In this case, the disk array...(read more)

  • Disk utility running for a long time

    - by Nik
I had a spare, old external usb hard disk which stopped working long time back due to improper removal of disk. I tried fixing it in windows (when I did not have ubuntu yet), however I couldn't fix it. So I tried formatting the disk and creating a new partition using the disk utility in ubuntu. However it seems to keep running without any indication of the progress or whatsoever. I have no idea what is happening. I have attached a screenshot below to show what I mean. As you can from the screenshot above it seems to be working on it but no indication on the progress or what it is doing. Any attempt to exit it or do any other task like safe removal or format partition leads to the the following dialog box. What should I do? Wait or restart the computer..???

  • Changing Disk Allocation for Ubuntu on Dual-Boot System

    - by OtagoHarbour
When I first installed Ubuntu, I had a new PC with Windows 7 installed. It was my first installation of Ubuntu so I only allocated 45% of the disk for Ubuntu. Now I find that I have been using Ubuntu exclusively so I would like to change the allocation of the disk so Ubuntu has say 75% of the disk and Win. 7 25%. Is there a way to do this without reformatting the disk. I am using Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome. Thanks, Peter

  • ExpressCache not working after Windows 8 reinstall on Samsung Series 7 Gamer

    - by Morven
I have a Samsung Series 7 Gamer laptop which came with Windows 8. After doing a reinstall of Windows, the ExpressCache software is no longer caching. Running "eccmd -info" shows me that the software is present and it has the MSATA drive partition configured. However, it's not actually caching anything. These are the results after having the system booted for days: C:\windows\system32eccmd -info ExpressCache Command Version 1.0.94.0 Copyright¬ 2010-2012 Condusiv Technologies. Date Time: 11/3/2013 12:26:20:263 (JAMETHIEL #36) EC Cache Info ================================================== Mounted : Yes Partition Size : 7.46 GB Reserved Size : 3.00 MB Volume Size : 7.46 GB Total Used Size : 86.50 MB Total Free Space : 7.38 GB Used Data Size : 16.63 MB Used Data Size on Disk : 84.38 MB Tiered Cache Stats ================================================== Memory in use : 32.00 MB Blocks in use : 136 Read Percent : 0.02% Cache Stats ================================================== Cache Volume Drive Number : 1 Total Read Count : 97242 Total Read Size : 4.13 GB Total Cache Read Count : 0 Total Cache Read Size : 595.50 KB Total Write Count : 161546 Total Write Size : 5.89 GB Total Cache Write Count : 0 Total Cache Write Size : 0 Bytes Cache Read Percent : 0.01% Cache Write Percent : 0.00% As you can see on the last two lines, cache read and write percent is nigh on zero. Anyone know where to look next? The only guides I can find deal with ExpressCache not being present or not having a configured drive.

  • Implement System.Web.Caching.Cache Object in a controller to cache specific query

    - by Julien
Hello World! I'm Julien and I have a question is it correct to implement my caching object like this in my controller : public class HomeController : BaseController { public static Cache cachingControl = new Cache(); ... And I Use it like this : public ActionResult Home() { IndexViewData view = new IndexViewData(); view.UserId = UserId; if (cachingControl.Get("viewHome") != null) { view = (IndexViewData)cachingControl.Get("viewHome"); } else { view.allAdsList = AllAds(5000, 0); if (Request.QueryString["voirTous"] != null) view.loadGeneral(true); else view.loadGeneral(false); cachingControl.Insert("viewHome", view); } view.adsList = SetupSearch(5, false, 0); return View(view); } But When I Call this line : if (cachingControl.Get("viewHome") != null) { They trow me the error NullErrorException But I know it can be null this is why i'm put this condition to Do you have an alternative or a tips for me thank you! P.S.: I Know that the code is weird :P but I must to support it ... Julien

  • Adding third disk as a single disk in a server with an existing RAID1

    - by slowhandsolo
I've got a ProLiant DL360 G5 server (Fedora 13) with two SAS disks in a hardware RAID 1, working fine. Now I hot plugged another SAS disk. I'd like to configure this new hard disk out of my RAID, as a single non-RAID disk (ex. /dev/sdb). Even after rebooting the server, I can't see the new disk with "fdisk -l". It displays only my hardware RAID, but not the new disk. [root@myserver]# fdisk -l Disco /dev/cciss/c0d0: 300.0 GB, 299966445568 bytes Disposit. Inicio Comienzo Fin Bloques Id Sistema /dev/cciss/c0d0p1 * 1 126 512000 83 Linux /dev/cciss/c0d0p2 126 71798 292422656 8e Linux LVM Disco /dev/dm-0: 234.9 GB, 234881024000 bytes Disco /dev/dm-1: 10.5 GB, 10536091648 bytes Disco /dev/dm-2: 21.0 GB, 20971520000 bytes Disco /dev/dm-3: 31.5 GB, 31474057216 bytes Disco /dev/dm-4: 1577 MB, 1577058304 bytes However, I can see the new disk using the HP Array Configuration Utility CLI for Linux "hpacucli": [root@myserver]# hpacucli => controller slot=0 physicaldrive all show status physicaldrive 1I:1:1 (port 1I:box 1:bay 1, 300 GB): OK physicaldrive 1I:1:2 (port 1I:box 1:bay 2, 300 GB): OK physicaldrive 1I:1:3 (port 1I:box 1:bay 3, 300 GB): OK => controller slot=0 pd all show detail Smart Array P400i in Slot 0 (Embedded) array A physicaldrive 1I:1:1 Port: 1I Box: 1 Bay: 1 physicaldrive 1I:1:2 Port: 1I Box: 1 Bay: 2 **unassigned** physicaldrive 1I:1:3 Port: 1I Box: 1 Bay: 3 Status: OK Drive Type: **Unassigned Drive** As you can see, I've got two SAS disks in a RAID 1 and the new disk as "unassigned". Is there any way to work with the new disk as another non-RAID single disk? If relevant, I want to create a new partition in my new disk, format it with mkfs and mount it, but as I can't see it with fdisk, I don't know how to do it. Thanks!

  • Problem With HTML5 Application Cache Whitelist - Won't Ignore Items

    - by Ryan Donnelly
I'm trying to use HTML5 Application Cache to speed some things up on an iPhone webapp. It works great for storing images, css and JS, but the problem is that it also tries to store the HTML. I haven't been able to get it to ignore the html and stop storing it in the cache. From what I've read, I have to "whitelist" the files and directories that I want to load no matter what. I've tried listing the files I want cached explicitly, and I've tried adding a series of things under the "NETWORK:" heading. I've tried * / /* http://mysite.com http://mysite.com/ http://mysite.com/* None of them seem to work. Is there any way to ignore HTML files by MIME-Type or anything? Any advice would be appreciated. Ryan P.S. Of course, my site is not mysite.com..I just used that for simplicity.

  • How do I use Zend Cache on this particular problem

    - by davykiash
I have an action that renders two different view scripts based on whether the user is logged in or not. class IndexController extends Zend_Controller_Action { .... public function indexAction() { $auth = Zend_Auth::getInstance(); if($auth->hasIdentity()) { $this->render('indexregistered'); return; } else { $this->render('indexpublic'); return; } } .... } I have seen quite some useful examples on how to use the Zend Cache and they seem to be based on the fact that the action renders one particular script. What am really looking at is the best approach to cache the the indexpublic script does get quite some hits and I would live to avoid the Zend MVC overhead if possible.

  • Reload Document into Google Docs Viewer (Clear Cache)

    - by Adam
Google Docs Viewer (http://docs.google.com/viewer) creates a cache of a document after the first viewing. To see what I mean, try the following: Upload file.pdf to your server (i.e., http://example.com). Visit http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://example.com/file.pdf Upload a new file to replace file.pdf (but use the same name). Revisit http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://example.com/file.pdf. Google Docs Viewer still shows the old file.pdf. Anyone know how to correct this? (I have already tried clearing browser cache, switching browsers, and logging in with a different google account to view the link.)

  • RAM Cache always full

    - by Tobias
I have 6GB RAM, i5 2.4GHZ Processor running Ubuntu 11.10. When streaming online or opening several tabs in Chromium I soon have 4GB Memory in the cache. And this makes my Notebook slow. When streaming a video, after a few minutes it really slows down and stumbles/jerks. I partitioned my HD so that I have 8GB swap. What could the problem be? How can I solve this? P.s: initially I had 4gb and recently upgraded to 6GB, but I did not experience a significant change. P.P.S: if I enter "free -g" in the terminal this is the result: total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 5 2 3 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 1 4 Swap: 8 0 8

  • Wrong content for URL cache on Google

    - by user32592
I have this website natural-track.com and when I do a cache check I get a completely different website,This is Google's cache of http://www.backpackers-planet.com/modules.php?name=Web_Links&l_op=visit&lid=3379 , unrelated to my site. I have checked with the host, they say all is well on their side. How can we fix it? The site also went off from Google Search. We are about to rebuild this site to a better professional platform but first we would like to have an idea of what happened and how to fix it.

  • Offline apt-get update to age of cache

    - by James Haigh
I have a script to quickly upgrade a Live or fresh system from cached files on a flash drive. In essence, it looks like this: # *Code to remove and symlink /var/cache/apt/ if currently empty of packages.* sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Quick offline cached upgrade; not limited by slow WANs. echo $'\nMake sure Internet is reachable and press enter for complete online upgrade.'; read sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get dist-upgrade # Complete online upgrade. The problem is that the ‘cached upgrade’ seems to ignore the cached pkgcache.bin and srcpkgcache.bin which is where I assume apt-get update stores its changes, so the upgrade completes as if the system is up-to-date. Useless. So in that case, I need some code to apt-get update to the age of the package cache on my flash drive. This code would be placed between the 1st and 2nd lines of the code above.

  • More about JuJu cache

    - by koxon
I would like to know more about JuJu cache. After I start a charm and JuJu provisions a machine for the first time, the charm will be downloaded and all dependencies installed (apt-get, etc). This process can be very long. Once the charm has been build, configured and deployed once, can JuJu provision more instances of the same charm pre-built and configured? I presume that's what the cache is for, but the documentation is not very explicit: https://juju.ubuntu.com/docs/charms-deploying.html How JuJu tracks the state of the charm if it works that way? Thanks Nic

  • Varnish configuration to only cache for non-logged in users

    - by davidsmalley
    I have a Ruby on Rails application fronted by varnish+nginx. As most of the sites content is static unless you are a logged in user, I want to cache the site heavily with varnish when a user is logged out but only to cache static assets when they are logged in. When a user is logged in they will have the cookie 'user_credentials' present in their Cookie: header, in addition I need to skip caching on /login and /sessions in order that a user can get their 'user_credentials' cookie in the first place. Rails by default does not set a cache friendly Cache-control header, but my application sets a "public,s-max-age=60" header when a user is not logged in. Nginx is set to return 'far future' expires headers for all static assets. The configuration I have at the moment is totally bypassing the cache for everything when logged in, including static assets — and is returning cache MISS for everything when logged out. I've spent hours going around in circles and here is my current default.vcl director rails_director round-robin { { .backend = { .host = "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx"; .port = "http"; .probe = { .url = "/lbcheck/lbuptest"; .timeout = 0.3 s; .window = 8; .threshold = 3; } } } } sub vcl_recv { if (req.url ~ "^/login") { pipe; } if (req.url ~ "^/sessions") { pipe; } # The regex used here matches the standard rails cache buster urls # e.g. /images/an-image.png?1234567 if (req.url ~ "\.(css|js|jpg|jpeg|gif|ico|png)\??\d*$") { unset req.http.cookie; lookup; } else { if (req.http.cookie ~ "user_credentials") { pipe; } } # Only cache GET and HEAD requests if (req.request != "GET" && req.request != "HEAD") { pipe; } } sub vcl_fetch { if (req.url ~ "^/login") { pass; } if (req.url ~ "^/sessions") { pass; } if (req.http.cookie ~ "user_credentials") { pass; } else { unset req.http.Set-Cookie; } # cache CSS and JS files if (req.url ~ "\.(css|js|jpg|jpeg|gif|ico|png)\??\d*$") { unset req.http.Set-Cookie; } if (obj.status >=400 && obj.status <500) { error 404 "File not found"; } if (obj.status >=500 && obj.status <600) { error 503 "File is Temporarily Unavailable"; } } sub vcl_deliver { if (obj.hits > 0) { set resp.http.X-Cache = "HIT"; } else { set resp.http.X-Cache = "MISS"; } }

  • htaccess mod rewrite changes http://www to http:/www

    - by Nir
I want to replace calls like this: www.mysite.com/sub/file.php?param1=x&param2=http://www.someurl.com with: www.mysite.com/sub/param1/param2 Param 1 is an integer number Param 2 is a url I wrote this rewrite rule in htaccess: RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} \/sub\/ RewriteRule sub\/([0-9]+)\/(.*)$ sub\/file.php?param1=$2&param2=$1 [L] Unfortunately param2 (the URL) starts with http:/www.someurl.com instead of http://www.someurl.com (note the single slash). Any idea what causes it? When I call the same file with same parameters in the format www.mysite.com/sub/file.php?param1=x&param2=http://www.someurl.com , param2 does appear OK so it must be something with the rewrite rule.

  • How to mount a blu-ray drive?

    - by Stephan Schielke
Maybe it is for the best to close this question. This has nothing to do with a bluray drive in general anymore. Probably a hardware defect. I will try to test it with a windows system and different cables again... Thx so far. I have a bluray/dvd/cdrom drive with SATA. Ubuntu wont find it under /dev/sd wodim --devices wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) : ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 0 dev='/dev/sg2' rwrw-- : 'HL-DT-ST' 'BDDVDRW CH08LS10' ------------------------------------------------------------------------- cdrecord -scanbus scsibus2: 2,0,0 200) 'HL-DT-ST' 'BDDVDRW CH08LS10' '2.00' Removable CD-ROM fdisk dont even lists it. Ubuntu only automounts blank DVDs, but neither CDROM nor Blurays. I also changed the sata slot, sata cable and the power cable. The drive works with a windows system. This happens when I try to mount: sudo mount -t auto /dev/scd0 /media/bluray mount: you must specify the filesystem type I tried all filesystems there are. I also installed makemkv. It finds the drive but not the disc. Here is my /dev ls -al /dev total 12 drwxr-xr-x 17 root root 4420 2011-11-25 19:36 . drwxr-xr-x 28 root root 4096 2011-11-25 07:12 .. crw------- 1 root root 10, 235 2011-11-25 19:28 autofs -rw-r--r-- • rsync'd a folder, folder doesn't show up, but free disk space decreased

    - by Patrick
I am currently trying to switch from mac to windows/ubuntu dual boot (on 2 seperate internal HDDs), but ran into some trouble restoring my documents. I am not sure all the information below is necessary, but if I knew how to solve it, I wouldn't ask it here. I backed up my mac before buying this laptop on an external HDD with Carbon Copy Cloner. I wanted to put these files on my user folder on my windows HDD, but I could not do that from inside windows (HFS+ format of mac), so I used rsync from inside Ubuntu to copy the documents from the ext hdd to the windows partition. It seemed like it went okay, but from inside windows (and later also Ubuntu) the folder didn't show up. My free HDD space, however, has reduced with about 200 GB (the size of the backup) when looking at the disk properties (from inside Windows and Ubuntu). rsync command I used: rsync -av /media/patrick/Toshiba\ 1.5T/Users/patrickvandenberg/ /media/patrick/Windows8_OS/Users/Patrick/MacBackup/ Folder does not exist: patrick@patrick-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y410P:~$ cd /media/patrick/Windows8_OS/Users/Patrick/MacBackup bash: cd: /media/patrick/Windows8_OS/Users/Patrick/MacBackup: No such file or directory Size of disk: patrick@patrick-Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y410P:~$ du -hs /media/patrick/Windows8_OS/ 195G /media/patrick/Windows8_OS/ Size of disk according to Disk properties: http://i.stack.imgur.com/OteMX.png (not enough rep to insert the image)

  • How do Expires headers and cache manifest rules work together?

    - by Robert K
I find the W3C's official Offline Web Applications specification to be rather vague about how the cache manifest interacts with headers such as ETag, Expires, or Pragma on cached assets. I know that the manifest should be checked with each request so that the browser knows when to check the other assets for updates. But because the specification doesn't define how the cache manifest interacts with normal cache instructions, I can't predict precisely how the browser will react. Will assets with a future expiration date be refreshed (no matter the cache headers) when the cache manifest is updated? Or, will those assets obey the normal caching rules? Which caching mechanism, HTTP cache versus cache manifest, will take precedence, and when?

  • Why is my disk full?

    - by Agmenor
I installed Ubuntu 12.04 by doing a fresh install where there was previously Ubuntu 11.10. My computer warns me now that my disk is nearly full. After having run apt-get purge, run apt-get autoremove and emptied the Trash can, I still have this problem as shown by this screenshot of Gparted: The disk /dev/sda7 is indeed full. I ran the Disk Usage Analyzer (Baobab) and I am still not sure of what is happening: One of my hypothesis is that when installing Ubuntu 12.04, I didn't configure my disks well and the disk /dev/sda6 is not mounted well as /home. Is this the reason indeed? What should I do to verify this and then to get the things fixed? Here are a few additional details to answer the questions I received (thank you everybody): My home directory is not encrypted. The Backup utility (Déjà Dup) is not set for automatic backups. (I do it myself and manually.) After I mount /dev/sda6, the command df -h gives Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda7 244G 221G 12G 96% / udev 3,9G 4,0K 3,9G 1% /dev tmpfs 1,6G 904K 1,6G 1% /run none 5,0M 0 5,0M 0% /run/lock none 3,9G 164K 3,9G 1% /run/shm /dev/sda6 653G 189G 433G 31% /media/8ec2fa69-039b-4c52-ab1b-034d785132a1 (sorry but formatting this into code does not work, for an unknown reason) Thanks to izx's post, I realized /dev/sda6 was not even mounted before. It contains all the documents I used to have when I was running Ubuntu 11.10.

  • Using memory-based cache together with conventional cache

    - by Industrial
Hi! Here's the deal. We would have taken the complete static html road to solve performance issues, but since the site will be partially dynamic, this won't work out for us. What we have thought of instead is using memcache + eAccelerator to speed up PHP and take care of caching for the most used data. Here's our two approaches that we have thought of right now: Using memcache on all<< major queries and leaving it alone to do what it does best. Usinc memcache for most commonly retrieved data, and combining with a standard harddrive-stored cache for further usage. The major advantage of only using memcache is of course the performance, but as users increases, the memory usage gets heavy. Combining the two sounds like a more natural approach to us, even though the theoretical compromize in performance. Memcached appears to have some replication features available as well, which may come handy when it's time to increase the nodes. What approach should we use? - Is it stupid to compromize and combine the two methods? Should we insted be focusing on utilizing memcache and instead focusing on upgrading the memory as the load increases with the number of users? Thanks a lot!
