  • Same domain only : smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 530-'SMTP authentication is required

    I have a very strange problem after moving my netwave.be domain from WebHost4Life to Arvixe. I configured several email adresses, like [email protected] and [email protected]. For POP3 I can use mail.netwave.be, a mailserver hosted by Arvixe. However, for SMTP I have to use relay.skynet.be. Skynet (Belgacom) is one of the biggest internet providers in Belgium and blocks smtp requests to external mailservers. So for years I've been using relay.skynet.be to send my messages using [email protected] as the sender. The worked perfectly. After moving my domain to Arvixe, this is no longer the case. I can send emails to people, no problem. I have received emails too, so I suspect that's ok too. But I can't send emails from one user of my domain to another user. For example, if I send a mail from [email protected] to [email protected], relay.skynet.be picks up the mail just fine. A few seconds later, I get a 'Delivery Status Notification (Failure)' mail that contains: Reporting-MTA: dns; mailrelay012.isp.belgacom.be Final-Recipient: rfc822;[email protected] Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 (permanent failure) Remote-MTA: dns; [69.72.141.4] Diagnostic-Code: smtp; 5.1.0 - Unknown address error 530-'SMTP authentication is required.' (delivery attempts: 0) Like I said, this only seems to be the case when both the sender and recipient are adresses of a domain hosted by Arvixe. I have serveral accounts not related to Arvixe at all. I can use relay.skynet.be to send mail to [email protected] using these accounts. Likewise, I can use relay.skynet.be to send mail from [email protected] to these accounts. but not from one Arvixe account to another. I hope I have clearly outlined the problem and someone will be able to help me.

Every time I configure VLANs on MTA2-bcsw[12] Fa0/24 interface on m_management_2 goes down bacause of receiving tagged BPDUs on access port (there are no VLANs configured on MTA2-swmgmt1 because of fact that only 250 VLAN is allowed in this switch. Is it correct?). Can someone provide me some basic configuration for this topology? Second thing I want to ask is concept of connection from MTA2-swmgmt1 to MTA2-swtr[12] HP switches for the sake of management. How to configure such ports on HP switches (managed switch and manager switch). Is my actual configuration correct?

  • How to configure amavisd-new for only scanning on particular senders/servers?

    I'd like to know how to configure amavisd-new to only scan for Spam on particular clients (IPs, CIDRs or hostnames) or alternatively sender's email domain. I know that it is possible to do it on a recipient's mail address but not on how to do it for the sender's mail address. It is even possible to do it on a recipient's IP address with policy banks. But my approach should be to be independent of recipient and only relay on the sender. What I want to accomplish is to only scan mails originating from Yahoo, Google, Hotmail and the other big senders. So it is easier to configure which senders should be observed than the ones that shouldn't. I known that it is easier to achieve on the MTA side, but that is not part of the question because I already go a solution on the MTA side. I want to do it on amavisd-new. And it doesn't help to know how to put senders on a whitelist, as this still means that the mail goes through all the scanning but then gets a high negative score. The mail shouldn't be scanned at all unless sent by the big players. So which parameters in amavisd-new is the right one to enable scanning for particular senders and only for these?

    I'm running postfix on a debian lenny system. sending mail in general works without any problems. however some recipent mail systems return an error and I can't get a clue what is causing the problem. So far I suspect that this is either postfix setup itself or the reverse dns resolution. The mail server is running on a virtual server from my service provider. running the command hostname is returning my.domain however running host <ip-address> is returning some alias from the virtual server system. now i'm not quite sure if that is causing my problem????     Maybe I am chasing a bug but I am trying to set up a smtp proxy of sorts. I have a postfix server which receives all the email for a collection of servers/clients. It them uses a smarthost (relayhost=...) to forward it's mail to our corporate MTA. I would like to limit the number of messages an individual server can relay to prevent swamping the corporate MTA. Postfix has a program called "anvil" that is capable of tracking stats about mail to be used for such things but it doesn't seem to be executed. I ran "inotifywait -m /usr/lib/postfix/anvil" while I started postfix and sent a number of messages through it from a remote server. inotifywait indicated anvil was never run.     I am trying to send e-mails from my CentOS 6.4 but it does not work. My knowledge about servers is quite limited, so I hope someone can help me. Here is what I did: First i tried to send an email using the "mail" command, but it was not in the OS so I installed it. # yum install mailx After that, I tried sending an email using the "mail" command, but it did not send anything. I checked it on the internet and I realized I needed an e-mail server like sendmail, so I installed it. # yum install sendmail sendmail-cf sendmail-doc sendmail-devel After that, I configured it following some tutorials.   • How do I Forward root's email to an external email address?

    I have a small server (Ubuntu 10.04) at my house and I would like to forward root's email to my gmail hosted domain to get security notifications and what not. I ripped everything out and started from scratch and ran into some other issues. I now have sendmail working in the sense that I can mail [email protected] and get the mail. HOWEVER, adding an address to /root/.forward does not actually forward the message.   • How to receive Email in JEE application

    Obviously it's not so difficult to send out emails from a JEE application via JavaMail. What I am interested in is the best pattern to receive emails (notification bounces, mostly)? I am not interested in IMAP/POP3-based approaches (polling the inbox) - my application shall react to inbound emails. One approach I could think of would be Keep existing MTA (postfix on linux in my case) - ops team already knows how to configure / operate it For every mail that arrives, spawn a Java app that receives the data and sends it off via JMS. I could do this via an entry in /etc/aliases like myuser: "|/path/to/javahelper" with javahelper calling the Java app, passing STDIN along. MDB (part of JEE application) receives JMS message, parses it, detects bounce message and acts accordingly. Another approach could be Open a listening network socket on port 25 on the JEE application container. Associate a SessionBean with the socket. Bean is part of JEE application and can parse/detect bounces/handle the messages directly. Keep existing MTA as inbound relay, do all its security/spam filtering, but forward emails to myuser (that pass the filter) to the JEE application container, port 25. The first approach I have done before (albeit in a different language/setup). From a performance and (perceived) cleanliness point of view, I think the second approach is better, but it would require me to provide a proper SMTP transport implementation. Also, I don't know if it's at all possible to connect a network socket with a bean... What is your recommendation? Do you have details about the second approach?

    My SMTP server got 100's of errors when sending lots of emails. Now have lots of .BAD files each one containing an error message and somewhere in the middle, the actual email address it was supposed to be sent to. What is the easiest way to extract from each file "just" the "email address", so that I can have a list of the actual failed emails? I can code in C# and any suggestion will be truly welcomed.     I am sending email using mail() under PHP5 on Dreamhost (which I believe uses the local sendmail or other MTA) ... bounces are coming back to the sending shell user, instead of to the user in the From:/Reply-To: header. Any ideas?

    In Wikipedia it sais: A mail transfer agent (MTA) using greylisting will "temporarily reject" any email from a sender it does not recognize. If the mail is legitimate the originating server will, after a delay, try again and, if sufficient time has elapsed, the email will be accepted. But how can I find out how long these delays are on my server and on the receiving side? My goal is to speed up email-traffic with partners using greylisting too and speed up the receiving of the first email someone sends to customers on my server.

    I found this in my log server: sm-mta[11410]: r9BKb6YY021119: to=<[email protected]>, ctladdr=<[email protected]> (33/33), delay=2+07:24:18, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=esmtp, pri=29911032, relay=mail1.mkuku.com. [58.22.50.83], dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Connection refused by mail1.mkuku.com. This message is repeated every 10-30 seconds with a different "to" address. What is this? Is my server being used to send spam?

    Hello everyone, I'd like to setup postfix as an MTA for 2 domains, about 10 users each. I'm a bit confused with the documentation. Postfix has so many options for mail delivery. I'd like to have a simple file where I would store all the email addresses (and possibly their corresponding mailboxes). I wouldn't like neither system's passswd file nor mysql to be used for storing email users. What parts of documentation I should be focused on?

    I recently attempted to reconfigure an existing single-instance Postfix server (multi-homed) to support multiple MTA instances, but failed miserably (read: open relay, nastygram from ISP). It appears that there are several methods that can be used to accomplish this, and the various (and numerous) secondary sources that I found online were 'all over the map' with respect to which they used/glued together. Can anyone provide a working configuration (or tips) that use postmulti to manage a multi-instance Postfix setup?

    I am using the Postfix MTA with a virtual configuration from MySQL for the Users and Forwardings. Now I want some Adresses (that are dynamicaly generated, for writing via E-Mail to a Forum) to be forwarded to a php-script. I already have tried to put the script quoted and piped as destination bit it doesn't work. "|php -q /path/to/script.php" But if I send a mail to that domain it says: User “|php -q /path/to/script.php"@mydomain.tld not found
