• how to get the value of a kendoui dropdown list selected value in a listview

  am having Some kendoui listviews which consists of kendoui dropdown lists and i want to get those dropdown list selected values. To do this am trying, $("#cnty1").val(); and here is my dropdownlist,i.e., list of countries coming from Database table, <input select STYLE="width:90px;height:auto" id ="cnty1" data-bind="value:cnty1" name="cnty1" data-type="string" data-text-field="cnty" data-value-field="cntyid" data-source="sourcedata1" class="k-d" data-role="dropdownlist" /> <span data-for="cnty1" class="k-invalid-msg"></span> here cnty1 is the id of the dropdown list, but am not getting the value instead am getting "id" of the slected value but not the selected value. And also if the value is not selected am getting the first value id by using $("#cnty1").val(); So, please suggest me a solution so that, 1) I should get only the Selected value and 2) Value of the dropdown list Only if the user selects a value from the list, but don't get the value of the list without selecting.

• Enabling Multiple Monitor Support from Terminal Services/Remote Desktop over Citrix

  Our Remote Desktop/Terminal Services solution where I work relies on Citrix for machines not connected via the VPN. We're using Citrix Xen server (I'm pretty sure) and I'm going to try to connect to a Windows 7 Host (my work computer) and I think the RDC client runs on a Win2003 host (exposed via Citrix). Is it possible to take advantage of Windows 7 multiple monitor support for RDC with this setup? Would I need to try getting my Citrix guys to have a different host machine for the RDC (Win2008, or Win7?)? I'm probably going to connect using the OS X Citrix client, but I'd be willing to BootCamp/Fusion up a Windows instance to work remotely, as well. I really want to be able to use multiple monitors remotely. It does "span" multiple montiors currently (I have a 3000x1024 desktop, for example) but I'd rather it be "true" multiple monitor instead of one giant desktop, if possible.

• Use a custom value object or a Guid as an entity identifier in a distributed system?

  tl;dr I've been told that in domain-driven design, an identifier for an entity could be a custom value object, i.e. something other than Guid, string, int, etc. Can this really be advisable in a distributed system? Long version I will invent an situation analogous to the one I am currently facing. Say I have a distributed system in which a central concept is an egg. The system allows you to order eggs and see spending reports and inventory-centric data such as quantity on hand, usage, valuation and what have you. There area variety of services backing these behaviors. And say there is also another app which allows you to compose recipes that link to a particular egg type. Now egg type is broken down by the species—ostrich, goose, duck, chicken, quail. This is fine and dandy because it means that users don't end up with ostrich eggs when they wanted quail eggs and whatnot. However, we've been getting complaints because jumbo chicken eggs are not even close to equivalent to small ones. The price is different, and they really aren't substitutable in recipes. And here we thought we were doing users a favor by not overwhelming them with too many options. Currently each of the services (say, OrderSubmitter, EggTypeDefiner, SpendingReportsGenerator, InventoryTracker, RecipeCreator, RecipeTracker, or whatever) are identifying egg types with an industry-standard integer representation the species (let's call it speciesCode). We realize we've goofed up because this change could effect every service. There are two basic proposed solutions: Use a predefined identifier type like Guid as the eggTypeID throughout all the services, but make EggTypeDefiner the only service that knows that this maps to a speciesCode and eggSizeCode (and potentially to an isOrganic flag in the future, or whatever). Use an EggTypeID value object which is a combination of speciesCode and eggSizeCode in every service. I've proposed the first solution because I'm hoping it better encapsulates the definition of what an egg type is in the EggTypeDefiner and will be more resilient to changes, say if some people now want to differentiate eggs by whether or not they are "organic". The second solution is being suggested by some people who understand DDD better than I do in the hopes that less enrichment and lookup will be necessary that way, with the justification that in DDD using a value object as an ID is fine. Also, they are saying that EggTypeDefiner is not a domain and EggType is not an entity and as such should not have a Guid for an ID. However, I'm not sure the second solution is viable. This "value object" is going to have to be serialized into JSON and URLs for GET requests and used with a variety of technologies (C#, JavaScript...) which breaks encapsulation and thus removes any behavior of the identifier value object (is either of the fields optional? etc.) Is this a case where we want to avoid something that would normally be fine in DDD because we are trying to do DDD in a distributed fashion? Summary Can it be a good idea to use a custom value object as an identifier in a distributed system (solution #2)?

  Hey all, quick question. Our current legacy system was built using multiple distinct databases (about ten of them). These are all part of the same discreet system, and a large number of SPs and functionalty span multiple databases. There are also key relationships that span (for example, a header table may be in database A with history, etc. in database B). When deploying multiple copies of our app to the same server therefore, we have to use multiple instances (because the database names are coded into so many sprocs). We're evaluating the idea of taking these ten databases (about 30gb total with individual sizes ranging from 100mb to 10gb) and merging them into a single database. Currently, we have our databases spread accross multiple spindles for better IO. The question I have is whether or not there is any performance loss or benefit of having 10 different databases vs. 10 different database files? i.e. rather than having three databases (A, B, and C) Disk D: A.mdf (1gb) Disk E: B.mdf (4gb) Disk F: C.mdf (10gb) Disk G: A_Log.ldf, B_Log.ldf, C_Log.ldf have one database (X) Disk D: X1.mdf (5gb) Disk E: X2.mdf (5gb) Disk F: X3.mdf (5gb) Disk G: X1_log.ldf,X2_log.ldf,X3_log.ldf Thanks! -Bob

• NULL-keys for key/value table

  (Using Oracle) I have a table with key/value pairs like this: create table MESSAGE_INDEX ( KEY VARCHAR2(256) not null, VALUE VARCHAR2(4000) not null, MESSAGE_ID NUMBER not null ) I now want to find all the messages where key = 'someKey' and value is 'val1', 'val2' or 'val3' - OR value is null in which case there will be no entry in the table at all. This is to save space; there would be a large number of keys with null values if I stored them all. I think this works: SELECT message_id FROM message_index idx WHERE ((key = 'someKey' AND value IN ('val1', 'val2', 'val3')) OR NOT EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM message_index WHERE key = 'someKey' AND idx.message_id = message_id)) But is is extremely slow. Takes 8 seconds with 700K records in message_index and there will be many more records and more search criteria when moving outside of my test environment. Primary key is key, value, message_id: add constraint PK_KEY_VALUE primary key (KEY, VALUE, MESSAGE_ID) And I added another index for message_id, to speed up searching for missing keys: create index IDX_MESSAGE_ID on MESSAGE_INDEX (MESSAGE_ID) I will be doing several of these key/value lookups in every search, not just one as shown above. So far I am doing them nested, where output id's of one level is the input to the next. E.g.: SELECT message_id from message_index WHERE (key/value compare) AND message_id IN ( SELECT ... and so on ) What can I do to speed this up?

Note: Lakos (pg. 618) argues against returning const value, and notes that it is redundant for builtins anyway (for example, returning "const int"), which he notes may interfere with template instantiation. .... While Sutter seems to disagree on whether to return a const value or non-const value when returning an object of a non-built type by value with Lakos, he generally agrees that returning a const value of a built-in type (e.g const int) is not a good idea. While I understand why that is useless because the return value cannot be modified as it is an rvalue, I cannot find an example of how that might interfere with template instantiation. Please give me an example of how having a const qualifier for a return type might interfere with template instantiation.

  Whenever a new window is opened and the drop value by default is 'yyyy'(For eg: yyyy for years), onclick of the drop down the value should automatically change to current year, which will be one of the values in the dropdown list (any place in the drop down). So now the value will be set to the current year. Again if the user clicks on the dropdown, the user can change the value to any(For eg: select 'yyyy'). So now the value set in drop down is 'yyyy'. condition 3, if the user clicks on the drop down since the value is 'yyyy' , focus should be the current year and also the value automatically. This is because I want to stop them from buying one license, install it on a machine, and use certain remote desktop technologies to do multiple user login. I want to prevent them from violating the license agreement. Is there anyway that I can do in my application for this? Or is multiple login simultaneously is simply not possible?

I was playing with a FirePro 2460 and while a 4x1 or 2x2 display group works quite nicely, if I make a 2x1 display group and then select one of the other displays to try to make a second 2x1 display group, it disables the first one. Is there any way to circumvent this behavior and set up two separate spans on the same card? Additionally, can you set up distinct display groups if they're on different cards? I will have the opportunity to test several of these cards in one machine very shortly, but I'm curious if anyone has any experience. EDIT: I can confirm that you can make multiple spans on multiple cards (as long as they don't cross cards, obviously) (If the answers are different for FirePro/FireMV cards and Radeon cards, that is helpful and relevant knowledge - I doubt it, though.)

  I have a DataGridView that is bound to a DataTable, it has a column that is a double and the values need to be between 0 and 1. For example lets say the old value was .1 and I enter 3. The above code runs when you exit the cell and dgvImpRDP_InfinityRDPLogin[e.ColumnIndex, e.RowIndex].Value will be .1 for that run, the code validates and writes 3 the data to the DataTable. I click on it a second time, try to leave, and this time it behaves like it should, it raises the error icon for the cell and prevents me from leaving. I try to enter the correct value (say .7) but the the Value will still be 3 and there is now no way out of the cell because it is locked due to the error and my validation code will never push the new value. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. EDIT -- New version of the code based off of Stuart's suggestion and mimicking the style the MSDN article uses. This means that when a user sees my search-form, the defaultvalues will be set as an attribute on the input-field, and this will be the value that is shown. When a user clicks inside of the input field, the default value will be removed. When the user sees an input field at first is looks like this: <input type="text" value="" defaultvalue="From" /> This works just fine, but I have a big challenge. If a user have posted the form, and something is entered into one of the fields, then I can't show the default value in the field, if the user deletes the text from the input field. This is happening because the value of the text-field is still containing something, even when the user deletes the content. So my problem is how to show the default value when the form is submitted, and the user then removes the typed in content? When the form is submitted the input looks like this, and keeps looking like this until the form is submitted again: <input type="text" value="someValue" defaultvalue="From" /> So I need to show the default value in the input-field right after the user have deleted the content in the field, and removed the focus from the field. • Value objects in DDD - Why immutable?

  I don't get why value objects in DDD should be immutable, nor do I see how this is easily done. (I'm focusing on C# and Entity Framework, if that matters.) For example, let's consider the classic Address value object. If you needed to change "123 Main St" to "123 Main Street", why should I need to construct a whole new object instead of saying myCustomer.Address.AddressLine1 = "123 Main Street"? (Even if Entity Framework supported structs, this would still be a problem, wouldn't it?) I understand (I think) the idea that value objects don't have an identity and are part of a domain object, but can someone explain why immutability is a Good Thing? EDIT: My final question here really should be "Can someone explain why immutability is a Good Thing as applied to Value Objects?" Sorry for the confusion! EDIT: To clairfy, I am not asking about CLR value types (vs reference types). I'm asking about the higher level DDD concept of Value Objects. For example, here is a hack-ish way to implement immutable value types for Entity Framework: http://rogeralsing.com/2009/05/21/entity-framework-4-immutable-value-objects. Basically, he just makes all setters private. Why go through the trouble of doing this?

I tried changing the name of the input and got the same results.

• Php.ini: Local Value vs Master Value (safe_mode, specifically)

  I can change php.ini values on my Apache and restart to see them in effect via a script showing php_info(). However, one setting is causing problems: safe_mode. I set it to "off" in php.ini but php_info() still shows it as Local value: On Master value: Off How can I find out which local value is overriding the master value? There's no htaccess directive of that kind in the httpdocs folder in question... (I already downloaded all files php_info() claims to be additional .ini files parsed, but safe_mode is not set in them.)

• Multiple munin-nodes per machine

  I'm collecting statistics remotely through JMX. The munin JMX plugin allows you to select an URL to connect to when aggregating statistics. This allows me to collect statistics from hosts which do not actually have munin-node installed. I find this a desirable property for some systems where I am hindered to install munin-node. How I work today is that if i want to collect JMX stats from machine A without munin-node, I install munin-node on machine B. Machine B then collects data from A via JMX, and reports it to munin-server, which runs on machine C. This setup requires multiple B-type machines: one per C-type machine. I would like to avoid this and instead use only one B-type machine to collect the data from all A-type machines and reports it to the only munin-server (C-type machine). As far as I understand this requires running multiple munin-nodes on B or in some other way report to munin-server that the B-type machine is reporting data from multiple sources. Is this possible? • JavaScript: 'textarea.value' not working in IE?

  Hi! A few hours ago, I was instructed how to style a specific textarea with JS. The following piece of code (thanks again, Mario Menger) works like a charm in Firefox but unfortunately nothing happens in Internet Explorer (7 tested only so far). var foo = document.getElementById('HCB_textarea'); var defaultText = 'Your message here'; foo.value = defaultText; foo.style.color = '#888'; foo.onfocus = function(){ foo.style.color = '#000'; if ( foo.value == defaultText ) { foo.value = ''; } }; foo.onblur = function(){ foo.style.color = '#888'; if ( foo.value == '' ) { foo.value = defaultText; } }; I've already tried to replace 'value' by 'innerHTML' (for IE only) but to no effect. Any suggestions? TIA

• std::map default value for build-in type

  Recently, I was confused by the std::map operator[] function. In the MSDN library, it says: "If the argument key value is not found, then it is inserted along with the default value of the data type." I tryed to search much more exactly explanation for this issue. For example here: std::map default value In this page, Michael Anderson said that "the default value is constructed by the default constructor(zero parameter constructor)". Now my quest comes to this:"what the default value for the build-in type?". Was it compiler related? Or is there a standard for this issue by the c++ stardard committee? I did a test on visual studio 2008 for the "int" type, and found the "int" type is construted with the value 0.
