• What is best way to update digital certificates from server to many clients when certificate expires

  One of my friend is working on issue related to updating expired digital certificates. He is working on Java application(Swings I guess), which has 4000 clients. All those need a digital certificate to connect to the application and this certificate expires every year. At the end of year he needs to update the certificate credentials for all clients. Currently this is manual process, done by connecting to each of 4000 systems either locally or by remote connection. He is got task to convert this process to be an automated process. Please suggest some solutions.

  I'm having trouble parsing an XML response from a web service. I have a feeling this is due to a namespace issue. But, after 4 hours of research, trial-and-error, and head-banging I haven't been able to resolve it. Please help. My goal is to get a dbms_xmldom.DOMNodeList that contains "ERRORS" nodes. • Access to selection in gmail message body with Google Apps Script

  Can app scripts access the current selection in a gmail message? I frequently compose messages that include engineering calculations and make use of the Google Calc feature do the calculation or convert to the desired units, e.g. 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh It would be really convenient to be able to select the above, hit a mapped key (e.g. Ctrl-K) and have the inserted after the expression 4000 Btu/hr * 8 hrs in kWh = 0.9378 kWh instead of having to paste the expression into a search box and then copy and paste the answer. I could certainly write a solution using a keymapper and a small python script to grab the current selection, send it to the gcalc api, etc ..., but my real motivation is to get familiar with Apps Scripts's capabilities and limitations. I suppose the uber-question here is "what kinds of user actions and state information can App Script access in Gmail messages (and/or Google docs) that are being edited?"

• fade in all divs of a page. once the content of the divs is loaded

  I want all the divs on my page to fade in after the content is loaded. The code below loads in all imgs in the #div container. Which is great. but it does not load in images that are used as div background images loaded through the css file. So i think the most effective way is to create a piece of code that fades in all the divs on the page after the content ie: images and text has loaded. Is there A way to do this. • NHibernate - get List<long> representing primary keys?

  I have a situation where I definitely don't want to get the whole domain object. Basically, the entity has a primary key of long (.NET)/bigint(sql server 2005). I simply need to pass the primary key to an external system which will access the database directly - and since the list of ids could be large, I don't want to rehydrate the entire domain object just to get the Id. In linq2sql, I could accomplish this with a projection, but I am restricted to NHibernate 1.2.1.4000, which doesn't support Linq. Is there a way to accomplish this using NHibernate 1.2.1.4000? (I am open to using a named-query if that will work)

  In MS SQL Server Management Studio 2005, running this code EXEC('SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + CAST(3 AS VARCHAR)) gives this error: Incorrect syntax near 'CAST' However, if I do this, it works: DECLARE @temp VARCHAR(4000) SET @temp = 'SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + CAST(3 AS VARCHAR) EXEC(@temp) I found an explanation here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1044831/t-sql-cannot-pass-concatenated-string-as-argument-to-stored-procedure According to the accepted answer, EXEC can take a local variable or a value as its argument, but not an expression. However, if that's the case, why does this work: DECLARE @temp VARCHAR(4000) SET @temp = CAST(3 AS VARCHAR) EXEC('SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + @temp) 'SELECT * FROM employees WHERE employeeID = ' + @temp sure looks like an expression to me, but the code executes with no errors.

• Split a string and join it back together in a different order?

  What is the most concise, yet readable way to split a string and put join it back together in a different order. For example, I want to split the following string: 10-20-30-4000-50000 and I would do this via: string[] tokens = original.Split('-'); and now I want to put it back together in this order: 30-20-10-4000-50000 I know I can use Join to put it back together in it's original form, but I don't want that. The only thing I can think of right now is: string modified = string.Format("{0}{1}{2}{3}{4}",tokens[2],tokens[1],tokens[0],tokens[3], tokens[4]); I realized that if I do: string modified = string.Format("{2}{1}{0}{3}{4}", tokens); it does not keep the dashes which is what I want so is to do that, should I just do: string modified = string.Format("{2}-{1}-{0}-{3}-{4}", tokens);

  Recently I was working with a project where I was in need to format a number in such a way which can apply leading zero for particular format.  So after doing such R and D I have found a great way to apply this leading zero format. I was having need that I need to pad number in 5 digit format. So following is a table in which format I need my leading zero format. 1-> 00001 20->00020 300->00300 4000->04000 50000->5000 So in the above example you can see that 1 will become 00001 and 20 will become 00200 format so on. So to display an integer value in decimal format I have applied interger.Tostring(String) method where I have passed “Dn” as the value of the format parameter, where n represents the minimum length of the string. So if we pass 5 it will have padding up to 5 digits. So let’s create a simple console application and see how its works. • Lenovo G580 video driver does not work

  I have trouble with video driver. In my laptop, I have 2 video cards: GeForce 630M and Intel HD 4000 Series. I installed 12.04, it starts in Unity 2D mode, I try to install drivers to both video cards, but results inefficiencies. Nvidia control panel propose me to create xorg config file manually, but after this screen resolution resets to 640x480 and I can't get it back to normal mode. Please, help me if this is possible.

  Every SQL DBA and developer should read the blog of MVP Erland Sommarskog – but particularly  his article on dynamic search conditions in T-SQL. I’ve linked above to his SQL 2005 article but his 2008 version is also a must-read. I seem to regularly come across uses of the SQL in the title above… Erland’s article explains in detail why this is inefficient, but I came across a nice example recently… A stored procedure contained the following code :- WHERE @Name is null or [Name] like @Name as a nonclustered index exists on the Name column, you might assume this would be handled efficiently by SQL Server. However, I got the following output from SET STATISTICS IO Table 'xxxxx'. Scan count 15, logical reads 47760, physical reads 9, read-ahead reads 13872, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0. Note the high number of logical reads… After a bit of investigation, we found that @Name could never actually be set to NULL in this particular example. ie the @x IS NULL was spurious… So, we changed the call to WHERE  [Name] like @Name Now, how much more efficient is this code ? Table 'xxxxx'. Scan count 3, logical reads 24, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0 A nice easy win in this case…… a full index scan has been replaced by a significantly more efficient index seek. I managed to recreate the same behaviour on Adventureworks – here’s a quick query to demonstrate :- USE adventureworks SET STATISTICS IO ON DECLARE @id INT = 51721 SELECT * FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail WHERE @id IS NULL OR salesorderid = @id SELECT * FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail WHERE salesorderid = @id Take a look at the STATISTICS IO output and compare the actual query plans used to prove the impact of  WHERE @id IS NULL. And just to follow some of Erland’s advice – here’s how you could get similar performance if it was possible that @id could actually sometimes contain NULL. DECLARE @sql NVARCHAR(4000), @parameterlist NVARCHAR(4000) DECLARE @id INT = 51721 – or change to NULL to prove query is functionally correct SET @sql = 'SELECT * FROM Sales.SalesOrderDetail WHERE 1 = 1' IF @id IS NOT NULL SET @sql = @sql + ' AND salesorderid = @id' IF @id IS NULL SET @sql = @sql + ' AND salesorderid IS NULL' SET @parameterlist = '@id INT' EXEC sp_executesql @sql, @parameterlist,@id Sometimes I think we focus too much on hardware and SQL Server configuration – when really the answer is focus on writing efficient SQL.

  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS is supported for 5 years, and will get some core updates for 2 years : I guess those updates include the kernel, graphic drivers and X11. But will these updates be optionnal, or not ? I would like to stick with my present version of the kernel and X11, because I'm using an AMD/ATI graphic card with fglrx driver, but according to this link, support for ATI HD 2000/3000/4000 cards will be dropped soon. Thanks !

  I tried to use this tutorial to make scroll switch work on my Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000. But I face following error: sudo: /lib/udev/keymap: command not found I have udev version 204-5ubuntu20.2 (the version found in Trusty) I noticed that this version doesn't include keymap tool. But I notices that greater udev versions (which available for Debian, for example) include this tool. Could somebody explain this diff for me? =) And what should I do in this case - install package from Debian repo?

• alias/function with command line arguments

  I'm tired of typing manage.py startserver 10.211.55.4:4000, so decided to make an alias for that. Only thing is: the port sometime changes. So I did this in bash profile: function runserver() { python manage.py runserver 10.211.55.4:$1 } But then when I call it: runserver 3000, it starts it, but immediately stops saying: "Error: That IP address can't be assigned-to". However if I type the same thing right into command line it works with no complains.

  My wireless network is physically enabled and the "enable wireless" appears properly on the top menu, however checking it doesn't seem to have any affect. Anyone came across this problem? I have a new HP Pavilion dm1-4000, installed Ubuntu 11.10 yesterday. The wireless worked fine yesterday, today I've got nothing. It also seems to have problems with the wired connection, however I have no idea if it's related.

• NFS issue: clients can mount shares as NFSv3 but not as NFSv4 -- or how to debug NFS?

  Problem description I have a file server running Debian. On it I have a few NFS shares. When I mount the shares from a client using NFSv3 (mount.nfs 10.0.0.51:/exports/video /mnt -o vers=3,soft,intr,timeo=10), it works. However, I would like to use NFSv4 because of improved security and performance. When I try to mount an NFSv4 share on malbec the mount command just hangs and finally times out after 2 minutes. How do I make the clients mount the NFSv4 shares as NFSv4? How do I troubleshoot NFS? There is no information in the syslog on neither client nor server. What are any errors in my configuration?   We (our company) are planning to deploy Symantec Endpoint Protection and Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Desktop Edition to our 3000 - 4000 workstations (Windows7 32 and 64) with a few 100s with Windows XP 32/64 Bit. I have read the implementation guide for SEP and have read tech-notes for Desktop Recovery 2011. Our team have planned to deploy this as follows : 1 x dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Endpoint Protection (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated SQL 2008R2 for Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 (Instead of using the Embedded Database) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the SEPM (Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager - Mgmt. APP) 1 x Dedicated W2K8 R2 Box for the Symantec Desktop Recovery 2011 Management Application Agent Deployment : As per Symantec Documentation for both of the above, an agent can be pushed via the Mgmt. Application (provided no firewalls are blocking ports required etc. - we have Windows firewall disabled already). Above is the initial plan we have for 3000 - 4000 client workstation (Windows) Now my Questions :-) a) If we had these users distributed amongst two sites with AD DC / GC in each site, How would I restrict SEPM and Desktop Mgmt. solution to only check for users in their respective site ? b) At present all users are under one building but we are going to move some dept. to a new location (with dedicated connectivity), How would we control which SEPM / MGMT Server is responsible for which site ? c) What Hardware would you recommend as a Server spec for the SQL server 16GB RAM, Dual XEON? d) What Hardware would you recommend as a Server spec for the MGMT Servers 16GB RAM each with DUAL xeon and sas disks? e) Also, how do you or would you recommend to protect these 4 servers (2 x SQL and 2 x MGMT Servers)? f) How would you recommend to store backups for these desktops? We do have a SAN and a NAS in our environment and we do have one spare DAS (Dell MD3000). If you have anything to add / correct - that will be really helpful before diving into the actual implementation phase. • Mail queue directory stuck in IIS SMTP server

  Hi there, We have an IIS SMTP server which sends out a largish number of mails (4000 or so) in batches overnight, and recently we've seen mails get "stuck" in the queue directory. Normally restarting the SMTP service seems to fix this, but it's happened a few times so I'm looking for more information. We sent out around 12,000 emails last night in 3 batches of roughly 4000. Around 10 hours later there are still 2000 or so in the queue directory which don't seem to be leaving the queue. Any new mails which appear in the queue are picked up almost immediately and sent to their destination, but these 2000 or so don't seem to move. Looking at the date modified on the emails some match up with the time they were sent, but around 1000 of them have modified dates stretching up to now. e.g. there was one mail with a date in the message headers of 5:30 this morning, but it's date modified is 11:50 and there are 3 other messages with a date modified of 11:50, then 5 with 11:49, 2 with 11:45 stretching back for a few hours and all with actual message headers far earlier. • Sudden "No Signal" in HDMI-DVI connection

  Yesterday I have connected external display Asus VW192C to my laptop Dell XPS 14-L421X via HDMI-to-DVI-D cable. And it worked perfectly fine from start. The day after, Asus screen went blank showing "No signal". Every time I connection/disconnection cable or power off/on the display it says "No signal". And I didn't change any system configurations meanwhile. To troubleshoot the problem, I have tried to connect laptop to TV (hdmi-to-hdmi) - it was fine. I've tried to connect a different laptop to the display via the same cable - worked fine as well. So its obviously something on system level, either Windows or graphics drivers. Also it seems that Windows still see the external display (I can move mouse pointer away from the main screen in Extended mode), but there's just no signal. Any ideas? What else to try? PS. My laptop has 2 graphics cards - GeForce 630M and Intel HD 4000 using NVidia Optimus technology. I have updated to latest Intel and NVidia drivers, still didn't help. PPS. Although I shouldn't have updated (from Intel support): "our Intel generic graphics drivers from the Intel website do not support using both Intel Graphics 4000 and NVidia GeForece GT630M". Nevertheless, it should not affect connectivity to additional display.
