• Determine Users Accessing a Shared Folder Using PowerShell

  Hi, I need to determine the users/sessions accessing a shared folder on a Windows XP (SP2) machine using a PowerShell script (v 1.0). This is the information displayed using Computer Management | System Tools | Shared Folders | Sessions. Can anyone give me pointers on how to go about this? • Anything such as a usb laptop charger?

  I am looking for a laptop charger that requires no power outlet but instead utilizes a usb port of another computer to charge my laptop. That is, I am seeking a usb-to-laptop port charger, NOT power outlet-to-laptop's usb charger. Is such a product even possible? I am guessing no since the usb port would not be able to supply enough electricity to power the laptop, even to maintain the battery (not charge it).

• Node app crashes after a while on micro EC2 instance even with supervisor

  I'm using supervisor to start my node.js application on a micro EC2 instance. However, the app only stays running for some time until it eventually shuts down. Not exactly sure how long the app stays running but I'm guessing for about a few hours or so. Sometimes less. My question is where on the remote server should I be looking in order to debug this kind of issue? I'm running an Amazon Linux AMI.

• Why are there many processes listed under the same title in htop?

  Can anyone explain to me why there are sometimes 10 or 15 processes with the same title and "stats" listed in htop? I'm guessing there are multiple threads running - but that many of them obviously couldn't be running concurrently. Is there any sort of performance hit taken if a process uses say, 15 non-concurrent threads vs. 10 non-concurrent threads?

• win 7: copy all files from a complex folder structure to one folder

  I'd have a complex folder structure like: h:\folder1\folder2\folder3 h:\folder1\folder2\a h:\folder1\b h:\folder1\folder3 h:\folder1\folder4\d Only with probably 100's of folders and a depth of around 4 (I'm guessing) Anyway I want to run a command that will move all the files from every sub folder into the top level folder. so something like h:\folder1\*\*.* to h:\folder1 Is there a tool I can use to do this? does win 7 have a command that will do this? • Linux program to convert audio file of fax transmission to image?

  I have a number of uncompressed audio files recorded off of an analog (POTS) telephone line of fax transmissions. Is there a Linux utility or library I could use to convert these files into images of the fax they contain? I'm not looking to send/receive a fax via a modem, but just to "replay" the communications tones and parse out the fax message.I'm guessing this may not be possible due to duplex issues and not knowing which end of the conversation is sending what,but thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew of something.

• Ubuntu 12, limit the resolution to 640x480

  How can I set and limit the resolution in Ubuntu 12 to 640x480 There's not much in the xorg.conf file anymore, so I'm guessing this is no longer the place to do it? I can't do it using the GUI either because it doesn't show me the 640x480 option. While setting the resolution the computer is connected to a normal screen but later it will be connected to a screen that only supports 640x480 and doesn't report its supported modes to the computer. The only thing in my xorg.conf (by default) is this: Section "Device" Identifier "Default Device" Option "NoLogo" "True" EndSection

  I've an application that need to be deployed to some testers. those with windows machine are reporting that the certificate used for signing the application couldn't be installed because of an unknown critical extension (1.2.840.113635.100.6.1.4) is there a way to make that critical extension known to windows (vista 64bit specifically)? I'm guessing that all this system of extension give user the ability to register callbacks to interpret the various added extensions (it would be totally useless otherwise)

• Server unable to communicate OUT, fine serving traffic

  We have several servers that are randomly loses the ability to communicate out to other nodes on the local network and internet. However websites are being served fine and we still have ssh access. A reboot seems to fix the problem for a few days. The servers are running 10.5.X and are fully up to date with software updates. Does anyone have any opinions, we think it is probably an ISP router, but we are guessing. Cheers Jono

• Is there a program that can colourize the output of any linux command?

  Or would I have to write my own? What's the best language for building a tool of this kind? I'm kind of new to linux, but I'm guessing that you could pass the output of a program to a particular script and have it display it in various colours, based on some regular expressions (constructed from some kind of config file perhaps). • How to reset shortcuts (.lnk file) in win7?

  Somehow I went to open a shortcut and windows couldn't find the target but instead of pointing the shortcut to the exe it pointed the lnk file handler to the exe, so now all my lnk files are trying to be opened by the borderlands game. WTF? I'm guessing I can do it by resetting the .lnk entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, but I don't know what to set it to.

  I'm using the EXPORT feature in Hyper-V to move a large Virtual Machine (VM) over a 1GB network from a Windows 2008 to a Windows 2008 R2 box (200GB) and its so intense that I get the following icon on my destination Hyper-V manager: Is this expected? Is there another way to get large file across the network and minimize this intense I/O effect? Anyones else ever seen that Do Not Enter sign? The other VMs are functional but slow, but I'm guessing that is expected.

Whenever I log in I have to run to following command to mount my shared Windows web dev folder: sudo mount.vboxsf web_apps /mnt/web_apps Where can I put this line (minus the sudo) so that it will run once when Linux boots up? I'm guessing there must be a root .profile or .login script that runs at some point?

So, my question is, does anybody know the name of the application that reads the logs, and if so, where it is available?   My Windows NT account name was changed, and when starting PuTTY it now appears that my saved session information has been lost. The FAQ suggests that PuTTY sessions should be stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY. Wikipedia explains that HKCU maps to NTUSER.DAT and USRCLASS.DAT under the current user's Desktop and Settings folder. I still have these files for my old account name, but I'm guessing there is no easy way to extract data from these files?

• What is the netmask equivalent on the verision of route for the Mac

  In order to create some special routes for debugging I used the following command on my linux server: sudo route add -net 10.78.0.0 netmask 255.255.0.0 gw 10.101.1.1 which works, and sets up the routes I need. But when I run the same command on my Mac I get: route: bad address: netmask I'm guessing that the version of route that is included in OS X requires a different format but I'm at a loss to figure it out.

  I'm running an Asus MyCinema U3100mini ATSC on Windows 7 64-bit. When I play live TV in Windows Media Center, it's very choppy and uses 500+ MB of RAM, I'm guessing due to the hard drive buffering functionality. Is there any way to disable the live TV pause buffer completely? If not, can anyone recommend alternative software that: Works with the MyCinema. Is lightweight and not horribly bloated with features I'll never use like Windows Media Center is.

  I have photos on my network drive that I want to display (in live tiles preferably in the photo app). Under c:\users\paul\pictures I have made a link to them, using mklink /d: And this works fine in classic: But nothing appears in the photo.app: I am guessing that this is an issue with indexing - the photos won't appear until they are indexed, and Windows won't normally index a network drive (unless you make it "available offline, which just copies the files locally) - but this is exactly what the mklink was supposed to work around, and the properties show it is indexable: Any ideas?

• Wireless Connection unstable when multiple devices connected

  My wireless network works perfectly when only 1 device is connected. Super fast, full strength. But as soon as multiple devices are connected to the wireless network the connections become unstable (constantly losing connection). It's quite annoying. I have a Sitecom Wireless 300N XR Gigabit Router WL-306, which should be a decent router so I'm guessing there must be something wrong with my configuration.   I'm trying to understand what the benefit of running redis as a daemon is. The redis default configuration seems not to run redis as a daemon, but locally on Mac OS X I added it to LaunchAgents, so I'm guessing it is running as a daemon anyway? Also on my remote application which is running on a linux server, since it won't have LaunchAgents (as far as I'm aware) will I have to run redis as a daemon? What will be the benefit of doing so?

• ZFS recordsize for VirtualBox and other virtual disks

  Has anyone run across any good benchmarks or other research on tuning the ZFS recordsize when putting virtual disk files on it for a guest OS? I'm using VirtualBox at the moment. I have notice significant performance improvement when working with a DBMS by setting the ZFS recordsize to the same as the DB blocksize, so I'm guessing matching the blocksize of the guest filesystem would also be a good idea.

  A little while ago I discovered that on Ubuntu linux one can display or conceal hidden files on demand at run-time by pressing [Ctrl-H]. This is really handy. Is there anyway this can be had on windows? I'm guessing Windows Explorer is not amenable to this, so I'm open to 3rd party file managers provided they're open source, freeware, or cheap (in order of preference). thanks
