    Is it possible to perform a shell operation from a bash script through a secure shell. Here is an example of why you may want to do this. Lets say you have a simple unix operating system that you need only build and run on, but you want to do all of the development on another machine. I want to write a bash script that has the following functionality: scp file to location on other machine ssh to other machine cd into correct directory make run program scp results to file on original computer exit ssh Is this remotely possible? (Pardon the Pun :p)

    I have this HUGELY irritating problem on Windows 7 (x64). Whenever I click on ANY link (that exists on a Word document, Excel or Outlook), I get an alert box with the message: This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer I have been scouring my settings and the Internet for a solution, but to no avail. What is the reason for this problem? It even happens when I click anchors in word document. That is, I can't even click on an entry in a Table of Contents to go to the appropriate page - I get this same error then. Is this a Windows 7 thing? Is there any way to turn this off?

    I ran this command on the server that has the share of code that my local IIS site set to (Via UNC to that share): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320268 Drive:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\caspol.exe -m -ag 1 -url "file:////\\computername\sharename\*" FullTrust -exclusive on (obviously I replaced Drive with C, and the actual computername and sharename with the one I'm sharing out). But when I run the ASP.NET site, I am still getting this runtime exception: Description: The application attempted to perform an operation not allowed by the security policy. To grant this application the required permission please contact your system administrator or change the application's trust level in the configuration file.   • Error when adding to the domain : the specified server cannot perform the requested operation

    When we add computers to the domain in Windows 7, we get the error: Changing the Primary Domain DNS name of this computer to "" failed. The name will remain "domain.com". The error was: The specified server cannot perform the requested operation. This happens on multiple computers and retrying yields the same result. Despite the error, the computer is still able to login to the domain ok. The DCs are windows 2003. Has anyone found a way to get rid of this error? Any help is appreciated.

    I am running a Windows slave for Husdon 1.337 (Linux master). When running a project on the Windows node, it fails with the following message: Building remotely on winTestSlave Checking out a fresh workspace because there's no workspace at C:\hudson\***\ejb remote file operation failed It did work yesterday and I have not upgraded Hudson or changed its configurations (or the slave's configurations) in any way. I establish the connection between the slave and the master by running the following command on a cygwim prompt on the slave: java -jar slave.jar -jnlpUrl http://myserver/computer/winTestSlave/slave-agent.jnlp I saw the issue http://issues.hudson-ci.org/browse/HUDSON-5374 and did as instructed in the work-around but that did not work. I also tried with a newer version of slave.jar (version 1.356) but that did not work either. Does anyone please have any idea of how to fix this? I really cannot find more information anywhere else!

    Currently I'm creating a backup of one of my hard drives. It's my main hard drive, where the operating system is running on. Because the backup is done during full operation I'm asking me if the backup really includes all files (registry, ...). Can I restore the backup on another hard drive and then run the operating system again without problems? Normally I would say that you have to boot from a CD (without running OS) to make a backup. I made a Google research but I didn't found my case so far.

  • Unable to sunchronize local and remote directories ("set times: Operation not permitted")

    I'm running into FTP errors using software like NetBeans or WinSCP: whenever I attempt to perform a synchronization or update of files from local -- server I get errors on the client saying "set times: Operation not permitted". This is clearly an issue with the way I've configured my Fedora installation. The user that I'm logging in with cannot touch -t any of these files, though he IS part of a group that has r/w access on the files. I do have root / sudo access to this server. What I would like to know is: a) is it likely that this problem would be solved by allowing my FTP user to "touch -t" these files b) how do I enable a certain user to be able to set timestamps on files without giving them ownership of the files (certain of these files need to be owned by Apache, for instance, so I don't want to chown them). Thanks in advance.

I have been making some changes recently and apparently something screw things up. One of those changes was to upgrade the device to iOS 5.1 SDK (iPad). To add something, I have the iPhone (iOS 5.1) version of this application that use the same NSOperation object. The difference is in the UI only, and everything works fine.   • Ping: sendmsg: operation not permitted error after installing iptables on Arch GNU/Linux

    Yesterday I got a new computer as my homeserver, a HP Proliant Microserver. Installed Arch Linux on it, with kernel version 3.2.12. After installing iptables (1.4.12.2 - the current version afaik) and changing the net.ipv4.ip_forward key to 1, and enabling forwarding in the iptables configuration file (and rebooting), the system cannot use any of its network itnerfaces. Ping fails with Ping: sendmsg: operation not permitted If I remove iptables completely, networking is okay, but I need to share the Internet connection to the local network. eth0 - wan NIC integrated on the motherboard (no idea of vendor, probably HP). eth1 - lan NIC in a pci-express slot (Intel Gigabit CT Desktop http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/network-adapters/gigabit-network-adapters/gigabit-ct-desktop-adapter.html) Since it works without iptables(server can access the internet, and I can login with ssh from the internal network), I assume it has something to do with iptables.   • ssh connection operation timed out using rsync

    I use rsync to backup my remote server on my local device but when I combine it with a cron job my ssh times out. Just to be clear, the data is stored on a remote server and I want it stored on my local server. The backup request must be sent from my local server to the remote server. The command for backup up the data is working when I just type it in terminal like this: rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP but when I combine it with a cron job like this: 10 11 * * * rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IP_ADDRESS: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP the ssh connection times out.   • SNMP query - operation not permitted

    I am working on API that reads a lot of data via SNMP (routes, interfaces, QoS policies, etc...). Lately, I have experienced a random error stating: Operation not permitted Now, I use SNMP4J as core library and cannot really pinpoint the source of error. Some Stackoverflow questions have suggested OS being unable to open sufficient number of file handles but increasing that parameter did not help much. The strange thing is that error occurs only when iptables is up and running. Could it be that firewall is blocking some traffic? I have tried writing JUnit test that mimicked application's logic but no errors were fired... Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!   • The requested operation has failed! (cannot find answer)

    I know this problem is plastered all over the web but I've been searching and trying for hours with no luck. Can someone please give me some help? I originally installed Apache 2.0.64 along with PHP 5.2.17, I went through all of the steps in this tutorial with no luck, I found that the culprit was the LoadModule line. After looking on the internet I found a whole bunch of stuff but a lot of it was referring to PHP 5 and Apache 2.2. Since there seemed to be more info on apache 2.2 I removed apache 2.0.64 and installed 2.2. I added the code to LoadModule in the conf file but I got the same problem. I then followed the steps in this tutorial because it was slightly different with some things I hadn't tried yet but still I get the same problem. If I comment out LoadModule... it works fine but otherwise I get "The requested operation has failed!". This is what I ended up keeping since it works only having to comment one line. LoadModule php5_module "c:/php/php5apache2_2.dll" <IfModule mod_php5.c> AddType application/x-httpd-php .php PHPIniDir "c:/php" DirectoryIndex index.php </IfModule> EDIT: How can I stop getting this error message? UPDATE: Also, please note that I took note of the message in the PHP site that stated if PHP 5.2 was to be run with Apache to use the VC6 and not VC9. I had VC9 so I replaced it with VC6, the file is labeled php-5.2.17-nts-Win32-VC6-x86.zip

    I've read in the drupal documentation that hook_user should be invoked for the login operation. To test this I've added a call to drupal_set_message at the top of my modules hook implementation and the only message I'm receiving is a call with 'load' as the $op. I've confirmed that drupal_set_message can be called multiple times and it doesn't erase the previous message, so I'm confident that hook_user is only being invoked the one time. Any good reasons for why hook_user isn't being invoked with 'login' as an operation when I'm logging in?

  • Doing a POST to a Service Operation in ADO.NET data services

    Is it possible to POST to a service operation defined in an ADO.NET data service (it is decorated with WebInvoke)? I had no problem calling the service operation as an HTTP GET. However, when I switched to doing a POST, the stack trace consistently comes back with "Parameter cannot be NULL". I am using the jQuery syntax below, and sending the POST as JSON (though I'm not including the $.ajax call, the parameter names line up exactly). It would be possible to try this with WCF, as opposed to ADO.NET data services (newly renamed as WCF data services). However, my preference would be to use this approach first. I have tried this with and without the stringify method. Most examples online only show how to use a POST to entities (i.e. for handling CRUD operations).     I have an experienced laptop — a Dell Latitude D400, with a Pentium M CPU — that I'd like to run as an always-on server. This model was launched in 2004; I got mine second-hand in about 2007. I've heard that continuous operation is generally not a good idea with consumer hardware, but am lacking in specific knowledge about related problems, and have little idea of how much such usage patterns would reduce the lifespan of the machine. I'm mostly concerned with the unit's core components; parts such as the hard drive which are readily replaceable are, well, readily replaceable. What sorts of things can I do to increase the lifespan of this machine under such circumstances? For example, I'm guessing that it would be wise to limit the CPU frequency or take other steps to keep the internal temperature low. However, I'm not sure where the point of diminishing returns would lie with such an approach — 50°C? 40°C? Would it be useful to suspend the machine periodically, for perhaps an hour each day, or a few hours each week?

    I'm working on a utility to update a list of entities in a database as a group. The database contains a list of entities. The result of the update is a new list. The API accepts this new list. The update may end up modifying some of the entities in the list, creating new ones and deleting some. So at the entity level, I may have to do any of an insert, delete or update operation. But it's always true that the final list in the database will be the same as the list passed down to the API. Is there in Hibernate a way to treat this operation at the list level, that is, tell Hibernate to persist this list of entities, and let it take care of which need to be created, updated or deleted? There is no entity/table representing this list, btw. Just the entities themselves in a table.

    i have a simple web service with one method that returns List<org.company.data.mp> i've created a simple web service client and specified a web service with wsdl. in netbeans i try to call a web service operation: right click, insert code, ... and i pick my web service operation. the code gets inserted but the method's return type is not List<org.company.data.mp> but it is List<org.company.server.mp>! i don't get it.. in the package "server" there is no class called mp! i check the implementation class of my web service - it says the return type is ...data.mp not ...server.mp

  • Operation timeout thrown using WebDav

    I build a desktop application in C# to send an email notification to a set of subscribed users. I am using Webdav to implement this function and using OWA (Outlook web access) and everything works fine till the 33 mail then 'Operation Timeout' exception is thrown. I can rerun my application to send emails to the remaining users but again after some emails again exception occurrs. Of course i could like to perform this operation in one run. I've tried adding some timeout value to my HttpWebRequest object and also put some Thread.Spleep value after sending each mail so that each http web request doesn't interfere with the following request. But now i am stuck with this timeout exception and no idea how to handle it. One idea would be that my logged in session in owa expired but i am loggin in each time a send a new email. Please can you provide me some help if you experienced with Web dav.

    Hi, i have a big performance problem in R. I wrote a function that iterates over an data.frame object. It simply adds a new col to a data.frame and accumulate sth. (simple operation). The data.frame has round about 850.000 rows.
