    We are using Offline Folders feature of Windows Vista to make files on network shares available when out of office. Mostly it is working, but every time I do a sync I get a lot of such errors: D500E7B8.tmp - A file was deleted on this computer and changed on the server while this computer was offline. There are hundreds of them. I always select all of them and choose resolution "Delete from both locations". But what is causing this and how can I avoid it? I suspect the reason is that we are using Debian and Samba (3.4.7) on our file server. I've been looking for some Samba options that would cure this, but with no success. I learned that probably the cause is, that both Word and Excel are using specific pattern to change files - they never change the original file, but instead always write a new temporary file and rename it to original file, when you click Save.     I have an old c++ application that needs to be modified to work with windows 7. Problem is in creating a new folder and saving a file in that folder. This folder should be created in c:\program files\myApp\data\newFolder. This is function I use to create new folder and get errors: if(!CreateDirectory(pathSamples,NULL)) //Throw Error { DWORD errorcode = GetLastError(); LPVOID lpMsgBuf; FormatMessage(FORMAT_MESSAGE_ALLOCATE_BUFFER | FORMAT_MESSAGE_FROM_SYSTEM | FORMAT_MESSAGE_IGNORE_INSERTS, NULL, errorcode, MAKELANGID(LANG_NEUTRAL, SUBLANG_DEFAULT), (LPTSTR)&lpMsgBuf, 0, NULL ); MessageBox(NULL, (LPCTSTR)lpMsgBuf, TEXT("Error"), MB_OK); } In XP this works, but in Windows 7 it doesn't. If I run application as administrator than the folder is created, otherwise "Access is denied" error is thrown. My question is following: Is there an option to make changes to the code so that the folder can be created in "program files" nad that files can be saved in this folder?   • proxychained browser unable to open files

    Ubuntu 10.10, Midori 0.3.2 browser (same problem with Epiphany 2.30.2, Chrome 11.0.686.1 dev; haven't tried with Firefox as yet) Proxychains-3.1 installed, working fine. Here is the deal: when NOT proxychained, Midori or Epiphany can download and open a file (e.g. PDFs from a Google search) in Evince without problem. But when proxychained, neither browser can open PDF files. The message is, "file xxx downloaded". Then it tries to open the file, an indication appears in the status bar, the turning wheel appears, and then nothing. Evince doesn't open. Whats going on here? In both cases (with and without proxychains) files are downloaded to the /tmp folder. They have the same file permissions and ownership. Whats different when proxychained? Why can't the files be opened and why are there no error messages or notifications. Why the silent failure? I don't want to use FF or Chrome. Chrome does not follow my GTK2 customizations and FF is just too resource heavy. Please help.

    Hello, When developing web applications, how does one keep local files and remote files synced together? There is the obvious way, whenever you edit a file on your local machine, just upload that file to the remote machine. Is there a more efficient way? I ask because I have been using subversion control, and it is so easy to keep files synced on a remote server. All I have to do is "commit" and it will find the files which need to be replaced.

    I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, fully updated. I have tried to sync my ~/Documents and ~/Pictures folders; U1 replicates the directory structure, but no files are uploaded. Next I tried to sync a single file inside ~/Ubuntu One and it was synced. Then I tried to put a directory inside ~/Ubuntu One and, again, the directory structure was replicated, but no files were synced. All the files have the "syncing" icon, however.   • How to recursively display folders and sub folders with specific file types only using PHP5 Recursiv

    Hi I am trying to get RecursiveDirectoryIterator class using a extension on the FilterIterator to work but for some reason it is iterating on the root directory only. my code is this. class fileTypeFilter extends FilterIterator { public function __construct($path) { parent::__construct(new RecursiveDirectoryIterator($path)); } public function accept() { $file = $this->getInnerIterator()->current(); return preg_match('/\.php/i', $file->getFilename()); } } $it = new RecursiveDirectoryIterator('./'); $it = new fileTypeFilter($it); foreach ($it as $file) { echo $file; } my directory structure is something like this. -Dir1 --file1.php --file2.php -Dir2 --file1.php etc etc But as I said before the class is not recursively iterating over the entire directory structure and is only looking at the root. Question is, how do use a basic RescursiveDirectoryIterator to display folders and then run the FilterIterator to only show the php files in those directorys? Cheers

  • Massive amount of subfolders and long subfolders. ¿How can I delete all of them?

    Good day. We have a little problem here. We have a share with the backup of all the server's offices, Its a really big share with more than 8.000.000 files. Our users usually give long names to the folders they create, and then make subfolders (long too) and more subfolders... and more suboflders.... We have a new share with more capacity, and with a simpe robocopy bat we copied all the files and folders (some give problems, but we manually copied them) But the problem is deleting them. del command didnt work well when so long paths, neirder rmdir... I'm tried some commanders, but no luck. Can u recommend me any tool that can delete recursively or able to delete 255+ paths? Edited: The SO on background of the share it's NetApp OS. But I can access it from Windows Servers. 2000 and 2003 Thanks.

  • Windows Start Menu Not Staying on Top

    Hey everyone. I've had this problem since Windows Vista. I did a clean install with Windows 7 and hoped it would fix the problem. Also swapped out the video card just to rule out a strange driver issue. Here's what's happening. After running for some period of time (usually a few hours), the Start button/orb will loose it's "Chrome" and turn into a plain button that just says "Start." It will work fine for a while, but then the start menu will just stop showing. Additionally, when I hit Win+D to show the desktop, the entire taskbar completely disappears. I can get it back usually by moving/minimizing windows that may be overlapping where the start menu should show. Otherwise, it requires either a full reboot or I'll end up killing & restarting the explorer.exe process.   • Git ignore sub folders

    I have a lot of projects in my .Net solution. I would like to exclude all "bin/Debug" and "bin/Release" folders (and their contents), but still include the "bin" folder itself and any dll's contained therein. .gitignore with "bin/" ignores "Debug" and "Release" folders, but also any dll's contained in the "bin" folder. "bin/Debug" or "bin/Release" in the .gitignore file does not exclude the directories, unless I fully qualify the ignore pattern as "Solution/Project/bin/Debug" - which I don't want to do as I will need to include this full pattern for each project in my solution, as well as add it for any new projects added. Any suggestions?

    We have a large number of documents and metadata (xml files) associated with these documents. What is the best way to organize them? Currently we put them into a series of nested folders: /repository/category/date(when they were loaded into our db)/document_number.pdf and .xml We use the path as a unique identifier for the document in our system. This is more versatile than putting them all in a single flat folder. also it is independent from our database/application, so we can reload them in case of failure. Yet, it introduces some limitations. for example we can't move the files once they've been placed in this structure, also it takes work to put them this way. What is the best practice? How websites such as Scribd deal with this problem?

    I am running 12.04 live from cd and trying to copy some important files from a mounted hard disk to an external disk. (My previous installation of 10.04 crashed and I want to install 12.04, and back up some data before that). When I try to copy files from the mounted disk to the external one, I get the following error: There was an error copying the file into /media/New Volume/L300_Bkp_2012_06_04/pics Error opening file: Permission denied Is this related to the source(mounted hard disk) or the target (external disk)? How do I get around this?

    I was wondering if there is a Application where you can organize networks. I mean if you have installed some networks you have to note every pc's name, his ip-address and so on. Is there a Application where you can manage it? I saw the monitoring tools but that is not exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe I didnt explain me well, after all my englis his not so good :) For example if I install many different networks I write in a book how I configured them. I write pc-name ip-address ip-gateway ip-broadcast and so on for each network.     After a successful upgrade from 11.04 to 11.10 a gradual deterioration occurred -- my laptop became unstable with updates -- I corrected the Aspell file, only to have another appear, I sought but I was blocked out. Had an idea, but resolved one that another problem appeared -- going from bad to worse -- I re-installed windows Vista and Ubuntu 11.10 in the original partitions. Window called it Windows Old and I had no problems recovering my files there - Ubuntu decided it is going to make a new Home directory -- . the questions is where did these files go to after re-installation -- are they deleted? If so That's fine duplicates are in Ubuntu 1 by synchronization - I can only download one file at a time!

  • Why does Files (Nautilus) stopped updating partition's bookmarks?

    I've upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10 and noticed that Files (Nautilus) stopped updating my bookmarks that are located in another partition (an ext4 one). It used to work before. Testing, I've found out that, if I add any new bookmark (using CTRL + D, for example), Files then adds this new one and updates all bookmarks, showing that ones that point to my partition. I conclude that the feature (updating bookmarks) works, but it's not being executed when I mount my partition clicking on it. Any hints on how to solve this? Bookmarks really speed up everyday activities.

    What can i do to fix this? maybe drop permission properties? maybe not. I have a large folder with 100k files. I moved it into my archive folder and its taking forever to move. Why is that? I know on XP it takes <1sec but not on windows 7. I am sure its a permission thing, is there a way i can disable it and make it faster?

  • Where are bluetooth received files saved

    I have used Blueman and the default Bluetooth manager an every time I accept the file transfer from the Phone to the PC, it shows that it is transferring and even notifies me that the transfer was successful but I can not find the image anywhere. Where are files stored after sending them via Bluetooth to the PC? I already checked my Home folder. The Picture folder which I thought it would be the one for images. Then the document folder and afterwards I did a huge check on all folders under /home. No luck. Is nowhere. I even checked this answer with no luck.

  • Why I don't use SSIS checkpoint files

    In a recent discussion in regard to general ETL best practises the subject of checkpoint files as a means for package restartability came up and I stated that I was dead against using them. For anyone that may care, here is why: Configuring them is distinctly unintuitive (that's a matter of opinion but if you follow the link I'll wager that you will agree) they don't make any allowance for loop iterations they cannot store variables of type Object they are limited in ability. There are many scenarios where you may want to execute certain containers regardless of whether the package is started from a checkpoint file but the current usage model does not allow for this. they are ignored by eventhandlers, which wouldn't be so bad if there were a way to toggle this behaviour in certain scenarios they dont work properly I'll expand on the last bullet point. I have encountered situations where the behaviour for tasks executing concurrently is unpredictable. That is, sometimes the completion of a task that executes concurrently with a failed/failing task will make it into the checkpoint file and sometimes it won't. This is near-impossible to reproduce but it does happen as my good friend John Welch will hopefully concur (if he is reading). Is anyone out there making successful use of checkpoint files within SSIS? I would be interested in knowing about that if so. @Jamiet

    i have a website, some folders on the websites contains images and files like .pdf , .doc and .docx . the user can easly just type the address in the url to get the file or display the photo http://site/folder1/img/pic1.jpg then boom.. he can see the image or just download the file my question is: how to prevent this kind of action, how can i guarantee a secure access of the files. any suggestions UPDATE TO CLARIFY MY IDEA i don't want any user who is browsing the website to get access to these files normally by just writing the URL of the file. those files are a CV files, they are being uploaded by the users to a specific folder on the server which we host outside the company. those files are only being viewed by the HR people through a special system. that's the scenario we want. i don't want a WEB GEEK who just wants to see what files has been uploaded to this folder to download them easly to his/her computer and view them or publish them on the internet. i hope you got my idea

    I am trying to setup my nginx conf so that I can serve the relevant files for my multiple Django projects. Ultimately I want each app to be available at www.example.com/app1, www.example.com/app2 etc. They all serve static files from a 'static-files' directory located in their respective project root. I have looked into using the 'try_files' command for the static location, but cannot figure out how to see if it is working or not.
