  • Printing perforated business cards

    I have a Brother MFC 440CN printer with the paper loaded underneath it. The problem with my stack of perforated business cards is that I can't print double-sided. The printer pulls the paper out from under its paper tray below and rolls it through the top for printing. With perforated business cards, they paper breaks at the perforations. Is there a method to preventing the slicing? Also, my printer also has some trouble pulling up the paper in general but I don't seem to understand why other than that the perforations break before the paper is grabbed for printing.

  • Paper on Linux memory access techniques sought

    Over on stackoverflow someone posted a link to a paper written by a Linux kernel engineer about how to use computers and RAM. He started off by explaining how RAM works (right down to the flip-flops) and then went on to discuss performance problems associated with operations on matrices (column vs row accesses), offered solutions and then dealt with some stuff MMX instructions can do.   • Interviewing Process (using blank paper etc)

    I am curious to know why do companies hand you a blank paper and ask you to write code? This confuses me, because these days intellisense, google, stackoverflow etc are common sources to look up syntax and / or IDE gives you a colored indicator if your syntax is wrong. I usually get stressed out during these situations. I am curious to know opinions of other developers. I am posting this on this forum, hoping to get helpful feedback from other experienced developers.

  • Minimizing windows to tray in xfce

    For XFCE (v. 4.8), I'm searching for possible options to minimize windows to tray (iconify). This means that 1) they're not in the window listing and 2) they're not in the alt+TAB menu and 3) when closed, the window hides (it disappears from window listing but still stays running). "alltray" has some weird GTK-related bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/alltray/+bug/589831; windows hide but unhiding doesn't do anything; they stay in the tray icon until the user undocks them). "trayer" complains that "another systray is already running" and there's no obvious workaround. This question here is to ask about possible minimalistic (as everything in XFCE is) solutions which don't involve manual compiling, and aren't an overkill like cairo-dock is (a rather bloated gnome-style application which creates a new large 'tray' instead of using the existing one). Thanks!

Die unterschiedlichen Möglichkeiten ergeben sich vor allem aus dem Betrieb mehrerer AIA Instanzen parallel (z.B. Aufteilung in Dev/Test/Prod, Aufteilung zur Lastverteilung, Zuordnung zu unterschiedlichen Geografien, ...). Weitere Variationsmöglichkeiten bietet die Verteilung der unterschiedlichen Bestandteile des DB-Schemas (AIA Metadaten, Cross-Referencing Daten, AIA Lifecycle Repository, JMS Schema, etc.). Und schließlich können auch verschiedene Topologien der SOA Laufzeitumgebung, wie beispielsweise SOA Cluster, unterstützt werden. Diese Varianten mit ihren typischen Einsatzfeldern werden in dem Dokument ebenso beschrieben, wie deren Umsetzung mit Hilfe des Installers.In einem zweiten Teil befasst sich das White Paper mit dem Deployment der AIA Artefakte in diese Topologien, und zwar insbesondere mit dem Tool-Support durch die "Project Lifecycle Workbench" und dem "AIA Installation Driver". Erstere ist eine neue Komponente in AIA 11gR1, die in der Lage ist, am Ende des Entwicklungszyklus Deployment Pläne zu generieren, während der ebenfalls neue "AIA Installation Driver" dann die Artefakte dann in die Zielumgebung überträgt.Das White Paper ist noch nicht auf oracle.com verfügbar und ist leider so umfangreich, dass es nicht auf auf blogs.oracle.com hochgeladen werden kann.   • How to exit vncconfig process properly

    On CentOS 5.7, when open up a vncconfig, a tray icon shows on the taskbar. Hit close or the x button to close the vncconfig doesn't exit the vncconfig, the tray icon is still there. Next time, if I open up another vncconfig rather than clicking the one on taskbar. There will be another vncconfig tray icon added to the taskbar. Except using kill $pid to remove the tray icon, is there any other way to exit the vncconfig process properly? See screenshot below:

  • Need recommendations for a hardy scanner that has a robust feeder tray

    In the early days of our company all our information came in on paper and all of what we sold was on paper. Because of this we literally rent our an old bank vault to house the millions of sheets of paper that, some say, still contain relevant information. That being said, I'm looking into purchasing some hardware capable of scanning all these documents and converting them to pdf. Being new at this level of digitization I would like to ask for recommendations for accomplishing this task. Most of this material exists as separate bound studies/articles/etc. Someone would have to remove the bindings and be able to load many pages at a time and have the scanner feed them all through and convert them to a single pdf (single pdf per study/article/etc). If you have any recommendations I would very much appreciate hearing about them, thanks.

  • Fusion-Icon does not show up in system tray

    I can't find a solution for my problem online: I'm running Unity 2D in Ubuntu 11.10 and want to enable compiz effects. I installed compiz config settings manager, and Fusion-Icon, but when I start Fusion-Icon nothing happens. When I execute it from terminal it stucks at lines like "setting update 'command'" or "setting update 'next_key'" I already set the whitelist for the panel to 'all'. Anyone knows what I'm missing? Thanks in advance!
