  • Unable to start the web application from localhost:3000(ruby on rails)

    - by vipin8169
    I had created a demo web application by executing rails tickets and then i executed rails script/server to run it on localhost. Initially i was able to execute the application in the browser by typing localhost:3000 in the address bar, but then I deleted the folder tickets from my hard disk. Now again i created the same folder but when i try to run it using the same command rails script/server it says that vverma@l-vverma:~/railsExp/tickets$ rails script/server create File exists - script/server I tried deleting the script/server file but i still couldn't run the localhost:3000 in the browser Tried rails s as well, it gave the following output:- http://paste.ubuntu.com/1317610/ But still i was unable to run the app on 'localhost:3000' What is the solution to this

  • Rails Multiple Models per Form, Optional FK Association

    - by ckarbass
    Given the following pseudo-code: Company has_many :jobs Job belongs_to :company I'm creating a form to post a new job. In the form, I want to have two fields for an optional company. On submission, if a company was entered, I want to either create or update the company and associate it with the new job. I know if the company exists by searching the companies table for the company's url. Is it possible to do this using form_for, fields_for, and accepts_nested_attributes_for given the company may not exist?

  • Why can't I use __getattr__ with Django models?

    - by Joshmaker
    I've seen examples online of people using __getattr__ with Django models, but whenever I try I get errors. (Django 1.2.3) I don't have any problems when I am using __getattr__ on normal objects. For example: class Post(object): def __getattr__(self, name): return 42 Works just fine... >>> from blog.models import Post >>> p = Post() >>> p.random 42 Now when I try it with a Django model: from django.db import models class Post(models.Model): def __getattr__(self, name): return 42 And test it on on the interpreter: >>> from blog.models import Post >>> p = Post() ERROR: An unexpected error occurred while tokenizing input The following traceback may be corrupted or invalid The error message is: ('EOF in multi-line statement', (6, 0)) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- TypeError Traceback (most recent call last) /Users/josh/project/ in () /Users/josh/project/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/db/models/base.pyc in init(self, *args, **kwargs) 338 if kwargs: 339 raise TypeError("'%s' is an invalid keyword argument for this function" % kwargs.keys()[0]) -- 340 signals.post_init.send(sender=self.class, instance=self) 341 342 def repr(self): /Users/josh/project/lib/python2.6/site-packages/django/dispatch/dispatcher.pyc in send(self, sender, **named) 160 161 for receiver in self._live_receivers(_make_id(sender)): -- 162 response = receiver(signal=self, sender=sender, **named) 163 responses.append((receiver, response)) 164 return responses /Users/josh/project/python2.6/site-packages/photologue/models.pyc in add_methods(sender, instance, signal, *args, **kwargs) 728 """ 729 if hasattr(instance, 'add_accessor_methods'): -- 730 instance.add_accessor_methods() 731 732 # connect the add_accessor_methods function to the post_init signal TypeError: 'int' object is not callable Can someone explain what is going on? EDIT: I may have been too abstract in the examples, here is some code that is closer to what I actually would use on the website: class Post(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=255) slug = models.SlugField() date_published = models.DateTimeField() content = RichTextField('Content', blank=True, null=True) # Etc... Class CuratedPost(models.Model): post = models.ForeignKey('Post') position = models.PositiveSmallIntegerField() def __getattr__(self, name): ''' If the user tries to access a property of the CuratedPost, return the property of the Post instead... ''' return self.post.name # Etc... While I could create a property for each attribute of the Post class, that would lead to a lot of code duplication. Further more, that would mean anytime I add or edit a attribute of the Post class I would have to remember to make the same change to the CuratedPost class, which seems like a recipe for code rot.

  • Rails 3 Server Startup problem with fastercsv

    - by Anand
    I have a rails 2.3.5 app getting upgraded to Rails 3. I did every thing I am required to do for upgrading and when I start the rails server using rails server it gives me this Please switch to Ruby 1.9's standard CSV library. It's FasterCSV plus support for Ruby 1.9's m17n encoding engine. I am using ruby-1.9.2-p0 and have fastercsv (1.5.3) gem installed. with the help of puts statements, i was able to track down where the error occurred. i found that the execution stops at this line Bundler.require(:default, Rails.env) if defined?(Bundler) in application.rb file. I tried many things but none worked .. please help..

  • How to disable secret_token in Rails 3?

    - by Damian Nowak
    I have several separate Rails 2 applications which share the same cookie. I upgraded one the applications to Rails 3.2.15 now. Mandatory secret_token in Rails 3 makes it impossible to share the session with the Rails 2 apps. I am storing the session in Redis. What the visitor only gets in the cookie is a session ID. There's no need to encrypt it. Therefore, how to disable secret_token in Rails 3? A secret is required to generate an integrity hash for cookie session data. Use config.secret_token = "some secret phrase of at least 30 characters"in config/initializers/secret_token.rb

  • Rails 3 error: no such file to load -- initializer (LoadError)

    - by Bob
    I'm on Ubuntu and my app is written for Rails 2.3.5 and I got it to run on 2.3.10 but when I upgraded to Rails 3.0.3 and tried to run it using "ruby script/server", it throws this error. /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:230:in `activate': can't activate rails (= 2.3.10, runtime) for [], already activated rails-3.0.3 for [] (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:35:in `require' from /home/bob/savage/config/boot.rb:55:in `load_initializer' from /home/bob/savage/config/boot.rb:38:in `run' from /home/bob/savage/config/boot.rb:11:in `boot!' from /home/bob/savage/config/boot.rb:110 from script/server:2:in `require' from script/server:2 When I uninstalled Rails 2.3.10, it throws this error instead bob@ubuntu:~/test.2.3.10$ ruby script/server /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:777:in `report_activate_error': RubyGem version error: rails(3.0.3 not = 2.3.10) (Gem::LoadError) from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:211:in `activate' from /usr/local/lib/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems.rb:1056:in `gem' from /home/bob/test.2.3.10/config/boot.rb:60:in `load_rails_gem' from /home/bob/test.2.3.10/config/boot.rb:54:in `load_initializer' from /home/bob/test.2.3.10/config/boot.rb:38:in `run' from /home/bob/test.2.3.10/config/boot.rb:11:in `boot!' from /home/bob/test.2.3.10/config/boot.rb:114 from script/server:2:in `require' from script/server:2 Ideas?   • Rails 3 - yield return or callback won't call in view <%= yield(:sidebar) || render('shared/sidebar'

    - by rzar
    Hey folks, I'm migrating a Website from Rails 2 (latest) to Rails 3 (beta2). Testing with Ruby 1.9.1p378 and Ruby 1.9.2dev (2010-04-05 trunk 27225) Stuck in a situation, i don't know which part will work well. Suspect yield is the problem, but don't know exactly. In my Layout Files I use the following technique quite often: app/views/layouts/application.html.erb: <%= yield(:sidebar) || render('shared/sidebar') %> For Example the partial look like: app/views/shared/_sidebar.html.erb: <p>Default sidebar Content. Bla Bla</p> Now it is time for the key part! In any view, I want to create a content_for block (optional). This can contain a pice of HTML etc. example below. If this block is set, the pice HTML inside should render in application.html.erb. If not, Rails should render the Partial at shared/_sidebar.html.erb on the right hand side. app/views/books/index.html.erb: <% content_for :sidebar do %> <strong>You have to read REWORK, a book from 37signals!</strong> <% end %> So you've got the idea. Hopefully. This technique worked well in any Rails 2.x Application. Now, in Rails 3 (beta2) only the yield Part is working. || render('shared/sidebar') The or side will not process by rails or maybe ruby. Thanks for input and time!

  • Rails 2.3.11 Server Crashing After 4 Requests

    - by Taka
    I have a Rails 2.3.11 application running on my local Windows machine using InstantRails. I cd to my application directory, run ruby script/server to start the server running, and point my browser to localhost:3000. I get the page I expect, and am able to click a few links to other pages (all of them are static). The problem starts when I load the 4th page or so. My server crashes, with this message: Processing HomeController#index (for 127.0.0.1 at 2012-06-23 15:48:40) [GET] Rendering template within layouts/application Rendering home/index Completed in 11ms (View: 9, DB: 1) | 200 OK [http://localhost/index] C:/rails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-2.3.11/lib/active_support/memoizable.rb:46: [BUG] Segmentation fault ruby 1.8.7 (2012-02-08 patchlevel 358) [i386-mingw32] This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. I've uninstalled this gem and reinstalled it, which didn't help. It doesn't seem to be the gem though, because the segmentation fault sometimes occurs in C:/rails/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/mongrel-1.1.2-x86-mswin32/lib/mongrel.rb:114 or C:/rails/ruby/lib/ruby/1.8/benchmark.rb:306 Versions: >ruby -v ruby 1.8.7 (2012-02-08 patchlevel 358) [i386-mingw32] >rails -v Rails 2.3.11 I'd like to get this fixed so while I'm developing I don't have to keep restarting my server. Any suggestions?

  • How to render a Partial from a Model in Rails 2.3.5

    - by empire29
    I have a Rails 2.3.5 application and Im trying to render several Partials from within a Model (i know, i know -- im not supposed to). The reason im doing this is im integrating a Comet server (APE) into my Rails app and need to push updates out based on the Model's events (ex. after_create). I have tried doing this: ActionView::Base.new(Rails::Configuration.new.view_path).render(:partial => "pages/show", :locals => {:page => self}) Which allows me to render simple partials that don't user helpers, however if I try to user a link_to in my partial, i receive an error stating: undefined method `url_for' for nil:NilClass I've made sure that the object being passed into the "project_path(project)" is not nil. I've also tried including: include ActionView::Helpers::UrlHelper include ActionController::UrlWriter in the Module that contains the method that makes the above "render" call. Does anyone know how to work around this? Thanks

  • is it safe to refactor my django models?

    - by Johnd
    My model is similar to this. Is this ok or should I make the common base class abstract? What are the differcenes between this or makeing it abstract and not having an extra table? It seems odd that there is only one primary key now that I have factored stuff out. class Input(models.Model): details = models.CharField(max_length=1000) user = models.ForeignKey(User) pub_date = models.DateTimeField('date published') rating = models.IntegerField() def __unicode__(self): return self.details class Case(Input): title = models.CharField(max_length=200) views = models.IntegerField() class Argument(Input): case = models.ForeignKey(Case) side = models.BooleanField() is this ok to factor stuff out intpu Input? I noticed Cases and Arguments share a primary Key. like this: CREATE TABLE "cases_input" ( "id" integer NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, "details" varchar(1000) NOT NULL, "user_id" integer NOT NULL REFERENCES "auth_user" ("id"), "pub_date" datetime NOT NULL, "rating" integer NOT NULL ) ; CREATE TABLE "cases_case" ( "input_ptr_id" integer NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY REFERENCES "cases_input" ("id"), "title" varchar(200) NOT NULL, "views" integer NOT NULL ) ; CREATE TABLE "cases_argument" ( "input_ptr_id" integer NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY REFERENCES "cases_input" ("id"), "case_id" integer NOT NULL REFERENCES "cases_case" ("input_ptr_id"), "side" bool NOT NULL )

  • Rails 3 shows 404 error instead of index.html (nginx + unicorn)

    - by Miko
    I have an index.html in public/ that should be loading by default but instead I get a 404 error when I try to access http://example.com/ The page you were looking for doesn't exist. You may have mistyped the address or the page may have moved. This has something to do with nginx and unicorn which I am using to power Rails 3 When take unicorn out of the nginx configuration file, the problem goes away and index.html loads just fine. Here is my nginx configuration file: upstream unicorn { server unix:/tmp/.sock fail_timeout=0; } server { server_name example.com; root /www/example.com/current/public; index index.html; keepalive_timeout 5; location / { try_files $uri @unicorn; } location @unicorn { proxy_pass http://unicorn; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_redirect off; } } My config/routes.rb is pretty much empty: Advertise::Application.routes.draw do |map| resources :users end The index.html file is located in public/index.html and it loads fine if I request it directly: http://example.com/index.html To reiterate, when I remove all references to unicorn from the nginx conf, index.html loads without any problems, I have a hard time understanding why this occurs because nginx should be trying to load that file on its own by default. -- Here is the error stack from production.log: Started GET "/" for 68.107.80.21 at 2010-08-08 12:06:29 -0700 Processing by HomeController#index as HTML Completed in 1ms ActionView::MissingTemplate (Missing template home/index with {:handlers=>[:erb, :rjs, :builder, :rhtml, :rxml, :haml], :formats=>[:html], :locale=>[:en, :en]} in view paths "/www/example.com/releases/20100808170224/app/views", "/www/example.com/releases/20100808170224/vendor/plugins/paperclip/app/views", "/www/example.com/releases/20100808170224/vendor/plugins/haml/app/views"): /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/actionpack-3.0.0.beta4/lib/action_view/paths.rb:14:in `find' /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/actionpack-3.0.0.beta4/lib/action_view/lookup_context.rb:79:in `find' /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/actionpack-3.0.0.beta4/lib/action_view/base.rb:186:in `find_template' /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/actionpack-3.0.0.beta4/lib/action_view/render/rendering.rb:45:in `_determine_template' /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/actionpack-3.0.0.beta4/lib/action_view/render/rendering.rb:23:in `render' /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.2-rc2/gems/haml-3.0.15/lib/haml/helpers/action_view_mods.rb:13:in `render_with_haml' etc... -- nginx error log for this virtualhost comes up empty: 2010/08/08 12:40:22 [info] 3118#0: *1 client 68.107.80.21 closed keepalive connection My guess is unicorn is intercepting the request to index.html before nginx gets to process it.

  • Acts as Tree with Multiple Models

    - by Joe
    I've got several models that I'd like to relate together hierarchically. For simplicity's sake, let's say I've got these three: class Group < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree has_many :users end class User < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree belongs_to :group has_many :posts end class Post < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_tree belongs_to :user end Under the current acts_as_tree, each node can individually can relate hierarchically to other nodes provided they are of the same type. What I'd like is to remove this restriction on type identity, so that SomePost.parent could have a User or a Post as its' parent, and that SomeUser.parent could have another user or a group as its parent. Any thoughts?

  • django/python: is one view that handles two sibling models a good idea?

    - by clime
    I am using django multi-table inheritance: Video and Image are models derived from Media. I have implemented two views: video_list and image_list, which are just proxies to media_list. media_list returns images or videos (based on input parameter model) for a certain object, which can be of type Event, Member, or Crag. The view alters its behaviour based on input parameter action (better name would be mode), which can be of value "edit" or "view". The problem is that I need to ask whether the input parameter model contains Video or Image in media_list so that I can do the right thing. Similar condition is also in helper method media_edit_list that is called from the view. I don't particularly like it but the only alternative I can think of is to have separate (but almost the same) logic for video_list and image_list and then probably also separate helper methods for videos and images: video_edit_list, image_edit_list, video_view_list, image_view_list. So four functions instead of just two. That I like even less because the video functions would be very similar to the respective image functions. What do you recommend? Here is extract of relevant parts: http://pastebin.com/07t4bdza. I'll also paste the code here: #urls url(r'^media/images/(?P<rel_model_tag>(event|member|crag))/(?P<rel_object_id>\d+)/(?P<action>(view|edit))/$', views.image_list, name='image-list') url(r'^media/videos/(?P<rel_model_tag>(event|member|crag))/(?P<rel_object_id>\d+)/(?P<action>(view|edit))/$', views.video_list, name='video-list') #views def image_list(request, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): return media_list(request, Image, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode) def video_list(request, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): return media_list(request, Video, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode) def media_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, mode): rel_model = tag_to_model(rel_model_tag) rel_object = get_object_or_404(rel_model, pk=rel_object_id) if model == Image: star_media = rel_object.star_image else: star_media = rel_object.star_video filter_params = {} if rel_model == Event: filter_params['event'] = rel_object_id elif rel_model == Member: filter_params['members'] = rel_object_id elif rel_model == Crag: filter_params['crag'] = rel_object_id media_list = model.objects.filter(~Q(id=star_media.id)).filter(**filter_params).order_by('date_added').all() context = { 'media_list': media_list, 'star_media': star_media, } if mode == 'edit': return media_edit_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context) return media_view_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context) def media_view_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context): if request.is_ajax(): context['base_template'] = 'boxes/base-lite.html' return render(request, 'media/list-items.html', context) def media_edit_list(request, model, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id, context): if model == Image: get_media_edit_record = get_image_edit_record else: get_media_edit_record = get_video_edit_record media_list = [get_media_edit_record(media, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id) for media in context['media_list']] if context['star_media']: star_media = get_media_edit_record(context['star_media'], rel_model_tag, rel_object_id) else: star_media = None json = simplejson.dumps({ 'star_media': star_media, 'media_list': media_list, }) return HttpResponse(json, content_type=json_response_mimetype(request)) def get_image_edit_record(image, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id): record = { 'url': image.image.url, 'name': image.title or image.filename, 'type': mimetypes.guess_type(image.image.path)[0] or 'image/png', 'thumbnailUrl': image.thumbnail_2.url, 'size': image.image.size, 'id': image.id, 'media_id': image.media_ptr.id, 'starUrl':reverse('image-star', kwargs={'image_id': image.id, 'rel_model_tag': rel_model_tag, 'rel_object_id': rel_object_id}), } return record def get_video_edit_record(video, rel_model_tag, rel_object_id): record = { 'url': video.embed_url, 'name': video.title or video.url, 'type': None, 'thumbnailUrl': video.thumbnail_2.url, 'size': None, 'id': video.id, 'media_id': video.media_ptr.id, 'starUrl': reverse('video-star', kwargs={'video_id': video.id, 'rel_model_tag': rel_model_tag, 'rel_object_id': rel_object_id}), } return record #   • Nested attributes form for model which belongs_to few models

    - by ExiRe
    I have few models - User, Teacher and TeacherLeader. class User < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible ..., :teacher_attributes has_one :teacher has_one :teacher_leader accepts_nested_attributes_for :teacher_leader end class Teacher < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_one :teacher_leader end class TeacherLeader < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :teacher end I would like to fill TeacherLeader via nested attributes. So, i do such things in controller: class TeacherLeadersController < ApplicationController ... def new @user = User.new @teacher_leader = @user.build_teacher_leader @teachers_collection = Teacher.all.collect do |t| [ "#{t.teacher_last_name} #{t.teacher_first_name} #{t.teacher_middle_name}", t.id ] end @choosen_teacher = @teachers_collection.first.last unless @teachers_collection.empty? end end And also have such view (new.html.erb): <%= form_for @user, :url => teacher_leaders_url, :html => {:class => "form-horizontal"} do |f| %> <%= field_set_tag do %> <% f.fields_for :teacher_leader do |tl| %> <div class="control-group"> <%= tl.label :teacher_id, "Teacher names", :class => "control-label" %> <div class="controls"> <%= select_tag( :teacher_id, options_for_select( @teachers_collection, @choosen_teacher )) %> </div> </div> <% end %> <div class="control-group"> <%= f.label :user_login, "Login", :class => "control-label" %> <div class="controls"> <%= f.text_field :user_login, :placeholder => @everpresent_field_placeholder %> </div> </div> <div class="control-group"> <%= f.label :password, "Pass", :class => "control-label" %> <div class="controls"> <%= f.text_field :password, :placeholder => @everpresent_field_placeholder %> </div> </div> <% end %> <%= f.submit "Create", :class => "btn btn-large btn-success" %> <% end %> Problem is that select form here does NOT appear. Why? Do i do something wrong?

  • Mootools in Rails

    - by trobrock
    For my client side development I use MooTools primarily, I have also just recently started learning rails. What is the best method of using Mootools in rails pages? Just adding my code inline like I would any other server side language? Or is there a better and cleaner way to do things? Basically I'm asking the most conventional way of integrating Mootools into my rails application.

  • How do I print an array in Rails?

    - by Abid Hussain
    I am new to Rails and I am using Ruby version 1.9.3 and Rails version 3.0.0. I want to print an array in Rails. How do I do that? For example, we have to use print_r to print an array in PHP: <?php $a = array ('a' => 'apple', 'b' => 'banana', 'c' => array ('x', 'y', 'z')); print_r ($a); ?> Output: <pre> Array ( [a] => apple [b] => banana [c] => Array ( [0] => x [1] => y [2] => z ) ) </pre> How do I print an array in Rails?

  • Understanding Rails core source code?

    - by jasonbogd
    Hi, I would like to start making code patches to Rails. Are there any good books on 'advanced' Ruby that I should read to understand the rails source code? Are there any other tips on getting started? Rails seems like a large beast and I don't know where to start! Thanks, Jason.

  • Rails 3 plugin - Generate a custom migration file

    - by moshimoshi
    Hi, On this article http://www.themodestrubyist.com/2010/03/16/rails-3-plugins---part-3---rake-tasks-generators-initializers-oh-my/ we can see the following codes which allow to invoke a migration file: class ActsAsTaggableOnMigrationGenerator < Rails::Generators::Base invoke "migration", %(add_fields_to_tags name:string label:string) end The command looks like: $ rails generate acts_as_taggable_on User invoke migration invoke active_record create db/migrate/20100529220831_user.rb error "add_fields_to_tags name:string label:string" [not found] I don't understand why I get this error... and I have 2 questions about: 1/ How can I do to customize the name of the generated file? Just like: 20100529220831_add_tag_field_to_users.rb. 2/ How can I pass in some args such as: $ rails generate acts_as_taggable_on User tag1 tag2 tag2 in order to customize the generating file such as tag1:string tag2:string tag3:string... Many thanks!

  • Rails 3 functional optionally testing caching

    - by Stephan
    Generally, I want my functional tests to not perform action caching. Rails seems to be on my side, defaulting to config.action_controller.perform_caching = false in environment/test.rb. This leads to normal functional tests not testing the caching. So how do I test caching in Rails 3. The solutions proposed in this thread seem rather hacky or taylored towards Rails 2: How to enable page caching in a functional test in rails? I want to do something like: test "caching of index method" do with_caching do get :index assert_template 'index' get :index assert_template '' end end Maybe there is also a better way of testing that the cache was hit?
