• Yum install error (mysql-devel) depsolve

  I get the following error on yum install mysql-devel. Can anyone help? • division with wrong result

  Hi, I am trying to divide integers but get 0 as result. I just do not understand what i am doing wrong. I am using only int's in this example but get the same result testing with float or double. • what is this kicker process that shows up when i do top?

  This morning when I came to my office i noticed the machine very slow so I did 'top' at the terminal and i see at least 50 process running and they are "kicker-3.4-reve"!!! I am using RedHat Linux It is taking up memory, how do I get rid of it? How could this happen and how can I avoid it fro happening again? • Exception: attempt to acquire a reference on a close SQLiteClosable

  I posted this back in May on the [android-developers] Google Group. I never heard back and was not able to reproduce the problem until one of my students did last week. I figured I'd post it here and see if it rang any bells for anyone. The database is definitely open. The SQLiteClosable is the SQLiteQuery created by SQLiteQueryDriver, and I see no evidence that there is an object pool or something going on here that might explain how a "new" SQLiteClosable is already closed. The fact that it is sporadic (meaning the same UI operations sometimes trigger the exception, but not always) suggests some sort of pool, race condition, or something...but I'm not sure where. Thoughts? Thanks! UPDATE: The code in question is from the LunchList tutorials out of my Android Programming Tutorials book. It's a bit spread out and not terribly suitable for posting directly in SO. You can download the code for that book from the above link if you want to take a look at it. I do not recall exactly which edition of the tutorial the student was working on at the time, though it was in the Tutorial 12-Tutorial 16 range. I was mostly hoping to run across somebody who had tripped over this problem before and had a likely culprit. I'm fairly certain my database is open. Thanks again!

  After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem. • Failing Sata HDD

  I think my HDD is fried... Could someone confirm or help me restore it? I was using Hardware RAID 1 Configuration [2 x 160GB SATA HDD] on a CentOS 4 Installation. All of a sudden I started seeing bad sectors on the second HDD which stopped being mirrored. I have removed the RAID array and have tested with SMART which showed the following error: 187 Unknown_Attribute 0x003a 001 001 051 Old_age Always FAILING_NOW 4645 I have no clue what this means, or if I can recover from it. Could someone give me some ideas on how to fix this, or what HDD to get to replace this?   After about 15 minutes, a Norton Ghost 14 backup fails with Error EBAB03F1: The specified network name is no longer available. The source computer is a P4 laptop running Windows XP SP3. The target computer is a Core2 Quad desktop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit. It does not help to disable Norton 360 on the source computer or Norton Antivirus 2008 on the target computer. The Event Viewer consistently shows the same two VSS-related errors after Norton Ghost starts but before it fails. It makes no difference if the VSS service is started or stopped. The VSS errors do not appear elsewhere in the event log, only after Ghost starts. The MSS event messages, however, are quite common, appearing throughout the log, and they may have nothing to do with the problem. • A Question about .net Rfc2898DeriveBytes class?

  What is the difference in this class? as posed to just using Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(string object); I have had relative success with either approach, the former is a more long winded approach where as the latter is simple and to the point. Both seem to allow you to do the same thing eventually but I am struggling to the see the point in using the former over the latter. The basic concept I have been able to grasp is that you can convert string passwords into byte arrays to be used for e.g a symmetric encryption class, AesManaged. Via the RFC class but you get to use SaltValues and password when creating your rfc object. I assume its more secure but still thats an uneducated guess at best ! Also that it allows you to return byte arrays of a certain size, well something like that. heres a few examples to show you where I am coming from? byte[] myPassinBytes = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("some password"); or string password = "P@%5w0r]>"; byte[] saltArray = Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes("this is my salt"); Rfc2898DeriveBytes rfcKey = new Rfc2898DeriveBytes(password, saltArray); The 'rfcKey' object can now be used towards setting up the the .Key or .IV properties on a Symmetric Encryption Algorithm class. ie. RijndaelManaged rj = new RijndaelManaged (); rj.Key = rfcKey.Getbytes(rj.KeySize / 8); rj.IV = rfcKey.Getbytes(rj.Blocksize / 8); 'rj' should be ready to go ! The confusing part ... so rather than using the 'rfcKey' object can I not just use my 'myPassInBytes' array to help set-up my 'rj' object???? I have tried doing this in VS2008 and the immediate answer is NO ! but have you guys got a better educated answer as to why the RFC class is used over the other alternative I have mentioned above and why????

• Ubuntu 10.04 and fedora 14 grub conflict

  I tried to triple boot Windows xp, Fedora 14 and Ubuntu 10.04. I first installed Windows xp, then fedora followed by Ubuntu. The problem is that i don't get option to boot Ubuntu while Xp boots fine. It seems Ubuntu was unable to replace Fedora's grub with its own at MBR. Looking at their grub conf file, Fedora and Ubuntu identifies same harddisk as two different devices and i do have another 80 GB harddisk which doesn't have any OS. • Custom listbox sorting

  I need to sort the data contained within a number of listboxes. The user will be able to select between two different types of sorting using radio boxes, one of which is checked by default on form load. I have created the IF statements needed in order to test whether the checked condition is true for that radio button. but i need some help to create the custom sort algorithms. Each list with contain similar looking data, the only difference in the prefix with which each line starts. For example each line in the first listbox starts with the prefix "G30" and the second listbox will be "G31" and so on. There are 10 listboxes in total (G30-G39 in terms of prefixes). The first search algorithm has to sort the lines by the number order of the first 13 chars.   I need something real simple, that for some reason I am unable to accomplish to this point. I have also been unable to Google the answer surprisingly. I need to number the entries in different tables uniquely. I am aware of AUTO INCREMENT in MySQL and that it will be involved. My situation would be as follows If I had a table like Table EXAMPLE ID - INTEGER FIRST_NAME - VARCHAR(45) LAST_NAME - VARCHAR(45) PHONE - VARCHAR(45) CITY - VARCHAR(45) STATE - VARCHAR(45) ZIP - VARCHAR(45) This would be the setup for the table where ID is an integer that is auto-incremented every time an entry is inserted into the table. The thing I need is that I do not want to have to account for this field when inserting data into the database. From my understanding this would be a surrogate key, that I can tell the database to automatically increment and I do not have to include it in the INSERT STATEMENT so instead of INSERT INTO EXAMPLE VALUES (2,'JOHN','SMITH',333-333-3333,'NORTH POLE'.... I can leave out the first ID column and just write something like INSERT INTO EXAMPLE VALUES ('JOHN','SMITH'.....etc) Notice I Wouldnt have to define the ID column... I know this is a very common task to do, but for some reason I cant get to the bottom of it. I am using MySQL, just to clarify. Thanks alot

  I have come up against problems installing MySQL-python via yum. Our server is running Centos 5.5 and MySQL Version 5.1.45, Python-dev is installed. Yum complains about the missing dependency libmysqlclient_r.so.15: Missing Dependency: libmysqlclient_r.so.15()(64bit) is needed by package MySQL-python-1.2.1-1.x86_64 (base) The server is up to date and the packages mysql mysql-devel python-devel are installed. • Server 2008, 2 NICs, 2 fixed IPs - big delays using internet

  Hi geniuses I have an all in one Windows 2008 server, configured with AD/DHCP/DNS/RRAS - all set up with wizards and no specific tweaking. The server has 2 network adapters : one of which ("MyWAN") is plugged into our office's internet connection, the other ("MyLAN") is plugged into a local switch, which is also where all our desktops are connected. So this one server is doing everything. When first set up, MyLAN had a fixed IP of 192.168.2.1 and served the desktops with DHCP scope 192.168.2.50-99. It also told them to use 192.168.2.1 as DNS and gateway. MyWAN was setup to take its IP etc from DHCP, being handled by the building's router and ADSL modem etc. All desktops were setup to use DHCP. This all worked perfectly fine, until I recently changed MyWAN to have a static IP (I wanted to access it from home, and needed to give it a static IP to port map in the building's router). Things still work, but there is now a long delay when accessing the internet. The actual speed is as before when downloading, but there is a pause of 3-6 secs when connecting to new hosts (for example if I browse to slashdot from either a desktop or the server itself, it'll hang on connecting to slashdot.org, hang again on connecting to *.fsdn, *.google-analytics.com and all the other hosts referenced from the main page). If I ping slashdot.org from the server, I get the following : Pinging slashdot.org [216.34.181.45] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.2.1: Destination host unreachable. Reply from 216.34.181.45: bytes=32 time=99ms TTL=239 Reply from 216.34.181.45: bytes=32 time=100ms TTL=239 Reply from 216.34.181.45: bytes=32 time=101ms TTL=239 Pinging anywhere external always seems to hit 192.168.2.1 first, which doesn't seem right. Trying tracert from the server gives the following : Tracing route to slashdot.org [216.34.181.45] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 MYSERVER01.intranet [192.168.2.1] reports: Destination host unreachable Trying tracert from a desktop gives the following : Tracing route to slashdot.org [216.34.181.45] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms * <1 ms MYSERVER [192.168.2.1] 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 6 ms 6 ms 6 ms dsl-gw1.ge.mer.uk.webtapestry.net [217.151.111.17] 4 38 ms 239 ms 251 ms gw-router.ge.mer.uk.webtapestry.net [217.151.111.13] ...and then all is fine after that. I think that DNS is working fine because the domain names are getting translated to correct IPs immediately. DHCP seems to be okay? So perhaps it's something up with my RRAS setup - although I can't see any option during the setup wizard which I would have filled in differently. I've also tried changing the binding order of the two network connections, to prioritise MyWAN, but that doesn't seem to have done anything. Any idea what's up? Many thanks - Rob

• FTP Upload works from local command line / remote GUI client but not from PHP script

  I originally posted this question at StackOverflow, but I'm beginning to think it's more of a server question. I have installed ProFTPd on an EC2 instance running Ubuntu 10.10. I have managed my proftpd.conf file as well as my server permissions to be able to connect and upload/move files using FTP both remotely using Filezilla, and on the server itself when connecting to 127.0.0.1. The problem I'm running into is when I try to upload/install a file using Joomla's interface. I give Joomla the same login information that I give to Filezilla, and the connection is made in the same fashion. I have traced the problem in the Joomla code to the PHP FTP module.
