  • Please suggest some alternative to Drupal

    Drupal propose completely different approach in web development (comparing with RoR like frameworks) and it is extremely good from development speed perspective. For example, it is quite easy to clone 90% of stackoverflow functionality using Drupal. But it has several big drawbacks: it is f''cking slow (100-400 requests per page) db structure very complicated, need at least 2 tables for easy content (entity) type, CCK fields very easy generate tons of new db tables anti-object oriented, rather aspect-oriented bad "view" layer implementation, no strange forward layouts and so on. After all this items I can say I like Drupal, but I would like something same, but more elegant and more object oriented. Probably something like http://drupy.net/ - drupal emulation on the top of django. P.S. I wrote this question not for new holy word flame, just write if you know alternative that uses something similar approach.

    Hi, I'm building simple application on as3. Kind of starship game. What I want to do is to create several different star ships. Each one should have different images (different look), different sets of animation (e.g. when it's flying, burning, damaged), different kind of weapon and also different controllers (e.g. one can be managed by user, another one by computer, and I want to be able to reuse same ships for AI controller as well as for users controls). Each ship is created in the following way: Create entity Add spatial Add renderers Add other components.... ...... n. init the ship So what I am trying to do: 1) Create StarShip superclass, to store HP (as every ship has it), store spatial (same reason) 2) Create inherited class for any other ship... (It will contain renderer - (responsible for display part), weapon, set of animations), etc What do you think about such way of composition? Maybe it's better to place everything in super class, and then just create instances using long, long, long constructors like: StarShip(hp:HP, animations:DICT, weapon:Weapon, ....) Need advice

    I'll be starting a new job soon where Scheme is heavily used. I currently do not know Scheme, but my employer assures me that is not a problem. Regardless I'd like to hit the ground running and have a working knowledge of the language before my start date. So I'm looking for good resources from which to learn Scheme. I have had minimal exposure to functional languages. Really only a small chunk of a course devoted to Haskell. But I have a strong background in procedural and OO and procedural languages. Before it gets requested by a commenter, I am competent with the following languages: C, C++, C#, Java, Perl, Python, and Ruby.

  • Suggest an Alternative for glTranslate() load on CPU.

    I have been working on a project of OpenGL. Here I just display a boat moving along with some option's for view change.. Its a 2D program. The thing is I have used many glTranslate functions for moving the boat in the code. It works properly in Windows(DEV-CPP) but when executed in Fedora it has a very very very slow movement for boat. When checked for the CPU LOAD it was huge. So any thing which i can try to move the boat faster? Please help :)

  • Can you suggest good ways of generating URLS for viewing tagged content

    For example, here on stack overflow the URL http://stackoverflow.com/questions/tagged/javascript+php will give you all questions tagged with javascript and php. The system I have allows tags with spaces in them, so the approach used here would not be a good fit for me. What character would you use to separate the tags, so the URLs are still human readable, google readable and web browser compatible. My gut feeling was to use commas. eg http://example.com/tagged/first+tag,second+tag Any feedback or suggestions would be welcome.

    I am new to this stackoverflow and programming. So HI!!!! What i hope to do is tell something that i think is important to Dart community. If somehow it was possible to code android and or iphone apps using dart that would be very awesome and same for Dart.... There is one path, that is making program in dart compiling it to javascript and then making app using Adobe air..... .But looks inefficient. so is there any other way which i am unaware of, via which i can build an android app at least.. using dart i know you can build an app, using javascript..and css+html...so i am looking for html+css+dart. It'd be cool if adobe air supports dart language directly.

    Hi. In a MySQL database I have documents of different type: some have text content, meta keys, descriptions, others have code, SKU number, size and brand name and so on. The problem is, I have to search something in all of these documents and then display a single page, where the results will be grouped by the document type, such as help page, blog post, item... It's not clear for me how to implement the Sphinx index: I want to have a single index to speed up queries, but since different docs have different structure - how can I group them? I was thinking about just concatenating them, but it just doesn't feel right.

    There are n petrol bunks arranged in circle. Each bunk is separated from the rest by a certain distance. You choose some mode of travel which needs 1litre of petrol to cover 1km distance. You can't infinitely draw any amount of petrol from each bunk as each bunk has some limited petrol only. But you know that the sum of litres of petrol in all the bunks is equal to the distance to be covered. ie let P1, P2, ... Pn be n bunks arranged circularly. d1 is distance between p1 and p2, d2 is distance between p2 and p3. dn is distance between pn and p1.Now find out the bunk from where the travel can be started such that your mode of travel never runs out of fuel.

Say I want to grab the GameID, or if I can't do that, the "TitleName" to use that in my query?   • How to suggest changes as a recently-hired employee ?

    Hi, I was recently hired in a big company (thousands of people, to give an idea of the size). They said they hired me because of my rigor and because I was, despite my youngness (i'm 25), experienced as a C/C++ programer. Now that I'm in, I can see that the whole system is old and often uses obsolete technologies. There is no naming convention (files, functions, variables, ...), they don't use Version Control, don't use exceptions or polymorphism and it seems like almost everybody lost his passion (some of them are only 30 years old). I'd like to suggest somes changes but i don't want to be "the new guy that wants to change everything just because he doesn't want to fit in". I tried to "fit in", but actually, It takes me one week to do what I would do in one afternoon, just because of the poor tools we're forced to use. A lot my collegues never look at the new "things" and techniques that people use nowadays. It's like they just given up. The situation is really frustrating. Have you ever been in a similar situation and, if so, what advices would you give me ? Is there a subtle way of changing things without becoming the black sheep here ? Or should I just give up my passion and energy as well ? Thank you. Updates Just in case (if anyone cares): following your precious advices I was able to suggest changes and am now in charge of the team that must create and deploy Subversion :D Thanks to all of you !

    I am referring specifically to the jQuery Autocomplete v1.1 plugin by Jörn Zaefferer [source: http://bassistance.de/jquery-plugins/jquery-plugin-autocomplete/] as there seems to be quite a few variations of this plugin. I'm trying to pass additional parameters to the server when the user starts typing because I have multiple fields that I want autocomplete to provide suggestions for. In addition to the query, I want to send the input name attribute to the server but I can't seem to use $(this).attr('name') within the extraParams.     I want to make an interpreter of a very simple language for practice. When I say simple I don't mean easy to use, I mean simple. Brainf**k is a good example of a language I want. I already have made a brainf**k interpreter in python (which is the language I would be using to write the interpreter). I would appreciate any suggestions of simple languages.
