  • How do you display a binary search tree?

    I'm being asked to display a binary search tree in sorted order. The nodes of the tree contain strings. I'm not exactly sure what the best way is to attack this problem. Should I be traversing the tree and displaying as I go? Should I flatten the tree into an array and then use a sorting algorithm before I display? I'm not looking for the actual code, just a guide where to go next.

  • Does the java JFC hash table use seperate chaining resolution? Can I traverse each list in the table

    I have written a program to store a bunch of strings in a JFC hash table. There are defiantly collisions going on, but I don't really know how it is handling them. My ultimate goal is to print the number of occurrences of each string in the table, and traversing the bucket or list would work nicely. Or maybe counting the collisions? Or do you have another idea of how I could get a count of the elements?

What I want is that the string gets divided into list of characters but whenever there is a _ sign the next character gets appended to the previous one.   • Crossover cable in addition to normal network connection on servers?

    I have 2 servers, both with Windows 2003 R2 Each have 2 NIC ports that are 10/100/1000 They are both connected to our LAN + joined to the domain (1 NIC port free on each server) The problem is that our main router is only 10/100 on the ports that these servers are connected to. Since one server is going to host SQL 2005 and the other will be running Altiris NS7, I was hoping that I could use a crossover cable to connect the two directly, thus taking advantage of their 1gbps NIC cards. Is this possible? If so what steps do I need to take to accomplish this? What needs to be done to make sure that when the app server is communicating with the SQL server that it is using the direct link vs traversing the LAN? Thanks a lot!

  • Restoring using SyncBack without profiles

    I backed up my internal hard drive (C:) using SyncBack onto an external (USB) hard drive with maximum compression. I then performed a clean install of Windows Vista onto the computer. I forgot to copy the SyncBack logs before the clean install. And now when ever I try to restore a directory, the RAR/ZIP files are copied to the system hard drive instead of extracting their contents to the hard drive. Also, SyncBack is not traversing the folders during the Restore process. How can I tell SyncBack to expand the compressed files? I am running the freeware version of SyncBack. I have to create new log files (unless SyncBack put them somewhere on the external drive). My alternative is to write a program that traverses the folders on the external drive and extracts files from the RAR/ZIP files. I am using Windows Vista, Service Pack 2, and the data size prior to backup was about 200 GB. (The backup process took over 72 hours due to "hiccups").

  • Is there a way to rsync in batches?

    I have a huge chunk of data (11G) in a subversion repository that I'm using rsync to migrate to Alfresco, which lucene indexes new files as they hit the file system. I'm using a dav mount as a proxy to allow me to rsync. The issue I'm having is the indexing post-rsync is quite an expensive operation for such a huge chunk of data, so I was wondering whether there's a way I could logically separate the rsync into identically-sized batches (say 500MB each) so I could schedule them in cron. At the moment, I'm traversing the top level folders and taking the smallest ones across first, but once I'm done with those, the much larger sub-directories are going to be quite troublesome.     We are trying to configure JBoss 5.1.0 to be as lightweight and as secure as possible. One of the parts of this process is to identify and close any ports we do not need. Three ports that we have outstanding but don't believe we need are: 4457 - bisocket 4712 - JBossTS Recovery Manager 4713 - JBossTS Transaction Status Manager We don't think we need any of these features (but could be wrong). Bisocket seems to be a way for JMS clients behind a firewall to communicate with JBoss. We hardly use JMS now and when we do, it is very unlikely that we will need this firewall traversing ability. I am less sure about whether we need the two JBossTS ports - I am guessing these are used in a clustered environment - we aren't clustered. So my question is, how do we disable these ports (and associated processes where possible), or if we need these ports, why do we need to keep them open?

  • Designing a social network with CQRS, graph databases and relational databases in mind

    I have done quite an amount of research on the topic so far, but i couldn't come up with a conclusion to make up my mind. I am designing a social network and during my research i stumbled upon graph databases, i found neo4j pretty interesting for user relations and traversing through nodes. I also thought of using a relational database such as MS-SQL or MySQL to store entity data only and depending on neo4j for connections between entities. Of course this means more work in my application to store and pull data in and out of 2 different sources. My first question : Is using this approach (graph + relational) a good approach for designing my social network keeping in mind that users on social networks don't have to in synch with real data by split second ? What are the positives and negatives of this approach ? My Second question : I've been doing some reading on CQRS and as i understood it is mostly useful for collaborative environments, and environments where users see a lot of "stale" data. social networks has shared comments, events, etc .. and many users query or update the same data. Could CQRS be a helpful approach ? Would it give any performance/scalability benefits or non-useful complexity ? Is it fairly applicable with my possible choice of (graph + relational) databases approach mentioned in the question above ? My purpose is to know if the approaches i have mentioned above seem good enough for the business context.

  • 3d Model Scaling With Camera

    I have a very simple 3D maze program that uses a first person camera to navigate the maze. I'm trying to scale the blocks that make up the maze walls and floor so the corridors seem more roomy to the camera. Every time I scale the model, the camera seems to scale with it, and the corridors always stay the same width. I've tried apply the scale to the model in the content pipe (setting the scale property of the model in the properties window in VS). I've also tried to apply the scale using Matrix.CreateScale(float) using the Scale-Rotate-Transform order with the same result. If I leave the camera speed the same, the camera moves slower, so I know it's traversing a larger distance, but the world doesn't look larger; the camera just seems slower. I'm not sure what part of the code to include since I don't know if it is an issue with my model, camera, or something else. Any hints at what I'm doing wrong?
