  • Internationalized strings in Eclipse plugin.xml file are not found when installed in Eclipse applica

    Hi, I have created 2 plugins, implementing an ODA driver plugin and its UI plugin for the BIRT extension to Eclipse. My plugins both work as expected when eclipse starts up another eclipse application where I can then test the plugins I am developing. However, when I install my plugins into an Eclipse application and then start it from a Windows shortcut, the plugins work but and language keys specified in the plugin.xml files are not found. For example, in my plugin.xml file for the ODA Driver plugin I set the attributes 'id' to '%oda.data.source.id' and the data source 'defaultDisplayName' to '%data.source.name'. I then, in a file 'language.properties', have defined the values for both of these keys (where the keys don't have the preceeding % character). When running the plugins that have been installed into the dropins/plugins directory of an Eclipse application, the wizard for creating my ODA data source names is as '%data.source.name' and saves the data source in the rptdesign (XML) file with an ID of '%oda.data.source.id'. Since 'language' is not the default name for the properties file I went into the manifest for both plugins and changed the 'Bundle-Localization' attribute to 'language'. The language file is located in the root directory of both of my plugins. The properties file is definitely found, since I use the two language files to store other strings used by the plugins, looked up using a java ResourceBundle. The strings are always found whether the plugins are run from Eclipse application loading another, or when properly installed in the dropins/plugins directory of an Eclipse application. Why are the installed plugins not finding language keys reference in the plugin.xml files? There are not errors in the logs and the language.properties files are clearly accessible...   • What is the most elegant way to deal with sourced files that themselves source (relative) source fil

    I am editing a file like /path/to/file.txt with vim, hence the current directory is /path/to. Now, I have a directory /other/path/to/vim/files that contains sourceA.vim. Also, there is a sourceB.vim file in /other/path/to/vim/files/lib/sourceB.vim In sourceA.vim, I want to source sourceB.vim, so I put a so lib/sourceB.vim into it. Now, in my file.txt, I do a :so /other/path/to/vim/files/sourceA.vim which fails, because the sourcing system is obviously not prepared for relative path names along with sourcing from another directory. In order to fix this, I put a execute "so " . expand("<sfile>:p:h") . "/lib/sourceB.vim" into sourceA.vim which does what I want. However, I find the solution a bit clumsy and was wondering if there is a more elegant solution to it. I cannot put the sourceA.vim nor sourceB.vim into vim's plugin folder.

  • Cygwin vim doesnt show 256 colors under ConEMu

    When using cygwin vim under ConEmu, the default vim theme doesnt display correctly after I set t_Co=256.     Sometimes I share screen shots and clips of vim usage with others. It would be nice to expand on the part of the status bar highlighted in this picture: I would like some way to make previous key sequences visible as well, such as: y2w jj f[ p 2d - You can see the key sequences leading up to the current one. I'll elaborate on my wish list at the bottom. Is something like this is available as a plugin or vim script? The sheer number of scripts available on vim online makes this hard to find by keyword. Some features I would hope for (but seem improbable): Delimit key sequences with a non-keyboard character instead of space, and a different one for the current command, so y2w jj f[ p 2d might become y2w¦jj¦f[¦p » 2d Replace keys that have a letter alternative with the alternative, such as the right arrow key - ^[[C with the equivalent l. Edit: To clarify, the right arrow key is a valid key in vim, but has no character to represent it, the l key preforms the same function and could/should substitute it. Have previous keystrokes run all the way to the beginning of the line (instead of just one or two), and just have vim's command prompt overwrite it when necessary. Replace some keystrokes with a more elegant alternative, for example hhhhh with 5h or more impressively d2f) with d% (in the appropriate situation).

  • Have VIM jump to a ctag in an existing tab

    I have ctags configured with my vim installation. My habit is to usually have all of the relevant files I'm working on open in tabs in vim all at once. The "problem" is that if I use Ctrl+] to jump to a ctag in a file I'm editing, it will replace the buffer in that tab, even though I have another tab already open containing that symbol. It would be much better if it just switched to that tab and jumped to the symbol there instead. This way I would always have a 1-to-1 tab-to-file ratio. I noticed in the Changenotes for the taglist.vim plugin (which I also use) has an entry that says 1. Added support for jumping to a tag/file in a new or existing tab from the taglist window (works only with Vim7 and above). However, I couldn't find anything in the documentation for Taglist (or Ctags) about how to actually do this. Can any vim gurus fill me in? Thanks!

  • How to replace emacs keybindings with vim keybindings in OS X GUI-level text fields

    I'm fairly fluent with VIM, but find myself having to use GUI programs (in OS X) and their awkward editing modes more and more frequently for my work. I know that OS X lets you use basic emacs keybindings in most textfields (browser window/bar, etc.). I'm wondering if it's possible to switch the emacs keybindings to vim keybindings for those GUI-level input areas. I understand that it might be possible to do that key-by-key in the keyboard layout preference pane. But that approach seems limited, cumbersome, and not very elegant. I'm thinking--and I may well be wrong here--that since OS X already ships with VIM installed, there should be a way to change a preference file deep in the system that maps VIM instead of emacs keybindings to the GUI text/input areas. Does anyone know if this is a) theoretically possible, or if there's something about how OS X maps emacs keybindings to its GUI interface that would make this impossible; and b) how/where that could be done?

  • How do I customize zsh's vim mode?

    Ok, so I finally made the great change. In my .zshenv, I changed my EDITOR: export EDITOR=vim There are a couple of questions I have that are so minor that I didn't want to start separate questions for them. Here they are: How do I get zsh to distinguish between insert mode and command mode like in vim? Preferably this would change the cursor from an underline to a block like in vim, but displaying text at the bottom would work as well. How do I get it to act more like vim? For instance, I'd rather it be in command mode by default and not go out of it after one command.

    I was having a bit of trouble reading the dark red strings of Vim's default color scheme, so I decided to switch to a different one. http://code.google.com/p/vimcolorsch...kboard.vim?r=2 http://files.werx.dk/wombat.vim However, when I set my color schemes to these, not only do they not come out correctly (for example, comments are bright blue), but these 2 somehow come out looking exactly the same! Am I doing something wrong, or are these colors restricted in the terminal so default colors are being chosen?

I can't figure this one out, I've reinstalled everything twice. I'm using Mac Vim.

    I've tried to input digraphs in Vim (without vi compatibility), and unfortunately I can't. After using ControlKP * it should input big greek pi letter. I've also tried using PBS * with :set digraph, but no success either.   • Terminal, vim and ssh color problem

    I'm using vim for my editor. I've problems about the colors of vim. The same colorscheme of vim gives different outputs in terminal, ssh session and screen. I learnt they've different colors(16, 88 or 256). I don't care of using 16 color or 256 color. Also the terminal emulator is not very important to me. My questions: 1- How do I use same vim colorscheme with same output on everywhere? 2- I want to write a color definition and use it every terminal(maybe with Xdefaults file). Is it possible?

  • I can see markup characters in vim `:help`

    I just created a .txt file inside .vim/doc for documenting one little function of my .vimrc, ran :helptags ~/.vim/doc and apparently the whole vim help system went wild. Now, if I open for example :help help, I see things like: This also works together with other characters, for example to find help for CTRL-V in Insert mode: > :help i^V < (notice the < and characters). I can also see the ~ at the end of headlines and the modeline at the end of the help page (thinks like vim:tw=78:ts=8:ft=help:norl:). I have no idea about what happens or how to fix it. Any clue?   • How to make vim display unicode

    I am trying to work with a utf-8 encoded xml file in vim 7.3 running on ubuntu. ASCII characters display normally but vim gives me gibberish instead of the unicode characters. After trying the following, I've reached the limits of my knowledge: 1) Checked that unicode was enabled by running set termencoding?. Output was termencoding=utf-8. 2) I installed the script from here (vim.org/scripts) 3) moved my ~/.vimrc file into ~/.vim 4) moved it back into ~ 5) followed the instructions in the accepted answer to this question. Is there some other variable I'm supposed to set? I know my system has the fonts I need. Update: Issue seems to be limited to html files for some reason.

    I'm looking for some tools for testing vim scripts. Either vim scripts that do unit/functional testing, or classes for some other library (eg Python's unittest module) that make it convenient to run vim with parameters that cause it to do some tests on its environment, and determine from the output whether or not a given test passed. I'm aware of a couple of vim scripts that do unit testing, but they're sort of vaguely documented and may or may not actually be useful: vim-unit: purports "To provide vim scripts with a simple unit testing framework and tools" first and only version (v0.1) was released in 2004 documentation doesn't mention whether or not it works reliably, other than to state that it is "fare [sic] from finished". unit-test.vim: This one also seems pretty experimental, and may not be particularly reliable. May have been abandoned or back-shelved: last commit was in 2009-11 ( 6 months ago) No tagged revisions have been created (ie no releases) So information from people who are using one of those two existent modules, and/or links to other, more clearly usable, options, are very welcome.

  • Vim: multi-file editing - having different makes in different splits

    I'm a recent vim convert (from fancy IDEs like eclipse.) I love the :make command in vim and use it extensively; however I also like to edit multiple projects (with separate makefiles.) So usually to edit more than one project I will do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp [suspend signal] pushd ../project2 vim project2.cpp and now I can switch between the two projects with ctrl+z i.e. suspend signal, and fg. When this becomes an issue is when I want to open one project in the context of another so I can do copy/pasting. So if instead in the above I do pushd project1 vim project1.cpp :vsp ../project2/project2.cpp I can edit both concurrently in the same vim process, however I can't effectively build one or the other with the :make command, it will only build project 1. Does anyone have some kind of scheme that gives them the best of both worlds: being able to edit concurrently while still being able to build multiple projects with the :make command all from the same vim process?

The problem i foresee is that when you update the plugin, the markup that you would have modified overwritten. I know in drupal there are template overrides, but i don't know enough about wordpress to do a similar practise. Any help?
