  • Fedora 13 - No module named yum

    - by drozzy
This is driving me bananas! After a recent update in Fedora 13 64bit, my yum is gone: $> yum update There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: No module named yum Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. I tried looking for an RPM yum package - to install yum. I went to the Fedora site: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/yum Call me blind but I cannot find it anywhere on that page! Most of the solutions suggest repairing yum... with yum! But I don't have yum? Yum yum yum? :< Any help? Here are some outputs for rpm commands: $> rpm -ql python | grep "site-packages$" /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages /usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages $> rpm -ql yum | grep "site-packages/yum$" /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum

  • Munin node not listing any plugins on new Fedora 14 installation

    - by Dave Forgac
I have just installed munin-node from the base repo on Fedora 14 and then started it. I found that my munin server is not able to collect data from this node so I tried connecting via telnet to test. When connecting via telnet I see that no plugins are listed: [dave@host ~]# telnet localhost 4949 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. # munin node at host.example.com list quit Connection closed by foreign host. [dave@host ~]# I did not modify anything after the installation. The munin-node.conf is allowing connections from 127.0.0.1 and the default set of plugins in /etc/munin/plugins/ are symlinked to the plugins in /usr/share/munin/plugins/. Here is the working output of the telnet test of the 'list' command should look like (this is on a Fedora 13 host): [dave@www ~]$ telnet localhost 4949 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. # munin node at www.example.com list apache_accesses apache_processes apache_volume cpu df df_inode entropy forks fw_packets if_err_eth0 if_err_eth1 if_eth0 if_eth1 interrupts iostat iostat_ios irqstats load memory munin_stats mysql_ mysql_bytes mysql_innodb mysql_queries mysql_slowqueries mysql_threads netstat open_files open_inodes postfix_mailqueue postfix_mailvolume proc_pri processes swap threads uptime users vmstat yum quit Connection closed by foreign host. • DNS Server on Fedora 11

    - by Funky Si
I recently upgraded my Fedora 10 server to Fedora 11 and am getting the following error in my DNS/named config. named[27685]: not insecure resolving 'fedoraproject.org/A/IN: 212.104.130.65#53 This only shows for certain addresses some are resolved fine and I can ping and browse to them fine, while others produce the error above. This is my named.conf file acl trusted-servers { 192.168.1.10; }; options { directory "/var/named"; forwarders {212.104.130.9 ; 212.104.130.65; }; forward only; allow-transfer { 127.0.0.1; }; # dnssec-enable yes; # dnssec-validation yes; # dnssec-lookaside . trust-anchor dlv.isc.org.; }; # Forward Zone for hughes.lan domain zone "funkygoth" IN { type master; file "funkygoth.zone"; allow-transfer { trusted-servers; }; }; # Reverse Zone for hughes.lan domain zone "1.168.192.in-addr.arpa" IN { type master; file "1.168.192.zone"; }; include "/etc/named.dnssec.keys"; include "/etc/pki/dnssec-keys/dlv/dlv.isc.org.conf"; include "/etc/pki/dnssec-keys//named.dnssec.keys"; include "/etc/pki/dnssec-keys//dlv/dlv.isc.org.conf"; Anyone know what I have set wrong here?

  • Fedora 17 - Dropping into debug shell after attempted partitioning

    - by i.h4d35
So I tried creating a new partition on Fedora 17 using fdisk as follows: Command (m for help): n Command action e extended p primary partition (1-4) p Partition number (1-4): 1 First cylinder (2048-823215039, default 2048): Using default value 2048 Last cylinder or +size or +sizeM or +sizeK (1-9039, default 9039): +15G Once this was done, instead of formatting the partition I created, I ran the partprobe command to write the changes to the partition table. On rebooting the computer, it drops to the debug shell and gives me the error as follows: dracut warning:unable to process initqueue dracut warning:/dev/disk/by-uuid/vg_mymachine does not exist dropping to debug shell dracut:/# While trying to run fsck on the said partition from the debug shell, it says "etc/fstab not found" and inside /etc I see a fstab.empty file. Is it now possible to retrieve what I have from the computer? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Edit: I've also tried the following steps for additional troubleshooting: I tried to boot using the Fedora disk and tried the rescue mode - says no Linux partition detected. I tried to create an fstab file by combining the entries from blkid and the /etc/mtab file and using the UUIDs from the mtab file - It didn't work. As soon as I rebooted the machine, it promptly dropped me in to the debug shell and the fstab file which i created wansn't there anymore in /etc (part of this solution)

  • Identifying Httpd error log in Fedora 16

    - by Cerin
How do you find the cause of httpd errors in Fedora 16? The new systemctl command in Fedora 16 seems to horribly obscure any useful logging info. [root@host ~]# systemctl start httpd.service Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details. [root@host ~]# systemctl status httpd.service httpd.service - The Apache HTTP Server (prefork MPM) Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/httpd.service; enabled) Active: failed since Thu, 21 Jun 2012 16:26:56 -0400; 1min 23s ago Process: 2119 ExecStop=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k stop (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) Process: 2215 ExecStart=/usr/sbin/httpd $OPTIONS -k start (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE) Main PID: 1062 (code=exited, status=0/SUCCESS) CGroup: name=systemd:/system/httpd.service So the first command fails...and it tells me to run another command...which simply tells me that the command returned an error code. Where's the actual error? Even more frustrating is nothing seems to have been written to the logs: [root@host ~]# ls -lah /var/log/httpd/ total 8.0K drwx------. 2 root root 4.0K Jun 21 16:19 . drwxr-xr-x. 21 root root 4.0K Jun 20 16:33 .. -rw-r----- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 16:19 modsec_audit.log -rw-r----- 1 root root 0 Jun 21 16:19 modsec_debug.log

  • OpenSwan (IPSEC) on Fedora 13 with Snow Leopard as a client

    - by sicn
I recently installed OpenSwan on my Fedora 13 machine. I want to use it to connect with Mac OS X with L2TP over IPSEC, unfortunately I am already stuck on the IPSEC-negotation part. My server is running behind a NATted firewall so my external IP differs from the server's IP. The server has a fixed IP on the network and the same is almost always valid for the clients (they are usually behind a NATted firewall). I installed OpenSwan on Fedora 13 and have following configuration: config setup protostack=netkey nat_traversal=yes virtual_private=%v4:10.0.0.0/8,%v4:192.168.0.0/16,%v4:172.16.0.0/12 oe=off nhelpers=0 conn L2TP-PSK-NAT rightsubnet=vhost:%priv also=L2TP-PSK-noNAT conn L2TP-PSK-noNAT authby=secret pfs=no auto=add keyingtries=3 rekey=no ikelifetime=8h keylife=1h type=transport left=my.servers.external.ip leftprotoport=17/1701 right=%any rightprotoport=17/0 IPSEC starts fine and listens to UDP 500 and 4500. These two ports are opened in the firewall and are forwarded fine to the server. In my /etc/ipsec.secrets file I have my.servers.external.ip %any: "LongAndDifficultPassword" And finally in my sysctl.conf (the redirect-entries are there because OpenSwan was strongly protesting about send/accept_redirects being active) I have net.ipv4.ip_forward = 1 net.ipv4.conf.all.send_redirects = 0 net.ipv4.conf.all.accept_redirects = 0 Running "ipsec verify" gives me "all greens" (except Opportunistic Encryption Support, which is DISABLED), however, when trying to connect my Mac gives me following in the logs: Nov 1 19:30:28 macbook pppd[4904]: pppd 2.4.2 (Apple version 412.3) started by user, uid 1011 Nov 1 19:30:28 macbook pppd[4904]: L2TP connecting to server 'my.servers.ip.address' (my.servers.ip.address)... Nov 1 19:30:38: --- last message repeated 2 times --- Nov 1 19:30:38 macbook pppd[4904]: IPSec connection failed Any ideas at all?

  • Fedora 15: em1 recently dissapeared and hostapd no longer serves internet to wirelessly connected devices

    - by Daniel K
I have a laptop running hostapd, phpd, and mysql. This laptop uses an Ethernet connection to connect to the internet and acts as a wireless access point for my workplace's wifi devices. After installing some software and reconnecting my Ethernet elsewhere, my "em1" device is no longer present and wirelessly connected devices can no longer reach the internet. The software I recently installed is: pptp, pptpd, and updated some fedora libraries. I have also recently moved my desk and laptop to another location and thus had to reconnect the Ethernet elsewhere. Wifi devices no longer have access to the internet. Wirelessly connected devices are able to successfully log into the laptop, showing full strength, correct SSID, and uses the proper password. However, when I tried to connect to a site like google, the request times out. The device "em1" also no longer appears on my machine. Running: # ifup em1 will give me the following output: ERROR : [/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifup-eth] Device em1 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization. And running: # dhclient em1 has the following output: Cannot find device "em1" When I run # dmesg|grep renamed, I get the following: renamed network interface eth0 to p4p1. I've tried to connect to the internet through p4p1 directly from the laptop and was successful. However, my wireless devices connected to my laptop are not able to connect to the internet. I have uninstalled pptp and pptpd using # yum erase ... but the problem still persists. To install pptp I used: # yum install pptp To install pptpd I did the following: # rpm -Uvh http://poptop.sourceforge.net/yum/stable/fc15/pptp-release-current.noarch.rpm # yum install pptpd To update my fedora libraries I used: # yum check-update # yum update EDIT: Running # route produces the following results: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface default 10.11.200.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 p4p1 10.11.200.0 * 255.255.252.0 U 0 0 0 p4p1 172.16.100.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 wlan0

  • lighttpd on Fedora permission issues

    - by Isaac Gateno
I'm trying to get started with lighttpd on Fedora 16 to run a RESTful api for development. Right now even with the most basic sample config file I'm getting 404 pages when I know the pages I'm pointing at exist. From reading other questions I'm leaning towards this being a permissions issue, but I'm confused about how lighttpd runs on Fedora. There's a user called "lighttpd" not "www-data"? I can't see this user in the system-config-users tool and I can't su into it to check which permissions it has. I'm trying to point lighttpd to "/var/www/lighttpd" which has some example pages in it. The permissions for the files inside are set to -rw-r--r-- and the permissions for the folder containing them are drwxr-xr-x. Doesn't that mean that any user can view these files? I'm not sure what else I should be checking as I don't have much experience with server configuration. Any help would be appreciated. Edit: I was following the tutorial configuration here so the lighttpd.conf file contains server.document-root = "/var/www/lighttpd/" server.port = 3000 mimetype.assign = ( ".html" => "text/html", ".txt" => "text/plain", ".jpg" => "image/jpeg", ".png" => "image/png" ) and I was just trying to get the basic example page working.

  • Fedora 10 setting up HPLIP for HP Deskjet F4488

    - by Shyam
I had set up a newly purchased HP F4488 using HPLIP, I installed it on my Fedora 10 desktop and it worked fine for the past 2 days. Suddenly, it is failing to print. The scanner works and the photocopier works. When a print job is initialized there is an error and the printer gets disabled. What is the problem? Is there anything that I should fix additionally to make it work?

  • Fedora distribution update pop-up after fresh installation

    - by Sayan Ghosh
Hi, We do a kickstart installation of FC-10 at our place. I am quite intimidated by the distribution update pop up that comes up after the O/S installation. I want a keyword to put into the kickstart file that would stop Fedora from intimating with an update pop-up. Is it possible to include such a switch in the kickstart OR a script that could be added to post.bash? Thanks, Sayan

  • Automatically mounting windows share in Fedora 12

    - by user15865
Hi, I'm trying to automatically mount a windows share in a Fedora 12 instance (FC12). When I manually mount things work: mount -t cifs //nas01/servers -o username=guest, password=myPassword /mnt/nas01/servers If I update /etc/fstab with the following: //nas01/servers /mnt/nas01/servers cifs username=guest, password=myPassword 0 0 Nothing happens after reboot. The thing that has me baffled is after a reboot if I run: mount -a The share is mounted. Any ideas on this? Thank you, Martin
