    I currently have 2001:1973:2303::/48 assigned to me and i'll be assigning /64's to customer's I'd like to have 1 zonefile for the /48 where i can essentially point / redirect query to different nameservers. Example ( Desired effect ) 2001:1973:2303:1234::/64 -> ns1.example.com, ns2.example.com 2001:1973:2303:2345::/64 -> ns99.example2.com, ns100.example2.com 2001:1973:2303:4321::/64 -> ns1.cust1.com, ns2.cust1.com Current /48 zonefile $TTL 3h $ORIGIN 3.0.3.2.3.7.9.1.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa. @ IN SOA ns3.example.ca. ns4.example.ca. ( 2011071030 ; serial 3h ; refresh after 3 hours 1h ; retry after 1 hour 1w ; expire after 1 week 1h ) ; negative caching TTL of 1 hour IN NS ns3.example.ca. My request seems simple to me atleast. To put it in terms of firewalling i want to redirect traffic client queries 2001:1973:2303:4321::1 - ns3.example.ca sees the request and redirects the query to ns1.cust1.com - ns1.cust1.com answers the query with omg.itworks.ca ( provided ns1.cust1.com is properly configured.

  • Slow website load with CNAME, fast when using IP

    I setup two DNS servers on my network: ns1.byte-werx.com && ns2.byte-werx.com I can ping the DNS servers and get a fairly good response time, when I dig them I also get a fairly reasonable response, but any website I filter through them is painfully slow (an upwards of 20+ seconds) -- verifiable by performing a tracert or attempting to access the URL in a browser. The DNS servers are running CentOS 6.3 and BIND9 with 500MB of memory (I figure that should be more than enough?). I have a reverse look-up zone (1.168.192) along with two website zones (www.byte-werx.com and www.stayhomedental.com) If I access the websites using their IP the page loads nearly instantly so I do not believe the issue is with the hosting server, but that is running Ubuntu Server 12.04 and Apache2 with 12GB memory. Any thoughts? I do not have the named.conf file in front of me but I can edit this post to include it if you feel it would be useful. Thanks for any advice!

    I am trying to configure name server on Ubuntu just for learning. I have followed this tutorial. After configuring bind9 I have restarted it and works well. I have no registered domain name and public IP, so I have used a random domain name(khalidiitdu.com) that is not registered. When I dig khalidiitdu.com, it shows status: NXDOMAIN. If I use nslookup command, it shows ** server can't find khalidiitdu.com: NXDOMAIN. Now question is: Is registered domain mandatory to configure bind9 within a LAN? If not please suggest me alternative ways. Thanks.....

    Hi all, I have a method void foo(list<shared_ptr<Base>>& myList); Which I'm trying to call with a two different types of lists, one of DerivedClass1 and one of DerivedClass2 list<shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>> myList1; foo(myList1); list<shared_ptr<DerivedClass2>> myList2; foo(myList2); However this obviously generates a compiler error error: a reference of type "std::list<boost::shared_ptr<Base>, std::allocator<boost::shared_ptr<Base>>> &" (not const-qualified) cannot be initialized with a value of type "std::list<boost::shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>, std::allocator<boost::shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>>>" Is there any easy way to cast a container of shared_ptr? Of alternate containers that can accomplish this?

  • Can't access site internally, but DNS works

    1) I have apache2 running a vhost for a website. 2) This apache2 instance is already successfuly setup for other websites on it to be accessible internally and externally. 3) I am using an internal bind9 server to resolve the new website's domain internally to the private IP. This bind9 server is not public facing, nor is it the master server on the internet. 4) The DNS internally resolves to the right IP. 5) Firefox reports "server not found". 6) I have copied the config almost identically to other configs that are known to work (adjusting for proper paths of course). In turn I have reloaded and restarted apache2 repeatedly. 7) I have an entry to forward .org .info .net alternative TLDs to .com in the vhost config for this domain, and my browser goes from .org to .com despite note #5. 8) /var/log/apache2/access.log shows when someone externally tries to access the site, but no activity is observed when someone tries to access internally. Changing the log level does not appear to improve the situation. 9) I am out of ideas, nothing appears to be wrong. Please help? To be explicit. Why is this new site unreachable internally? I would like to clarify on something, even though I have already outlined this. YES I know this system is in a private network. NO it is not going through a router. YES I am using an internal DNS server (bind9) to resolve, and YES it does resolve to the proper internal IP. YES other websites on the same server setup in the same way with internal resolution work right now and have done for a while. Everything for this domain is setup the same as the other working domains as far as I can tell. The other working domains are internally AND externally accessible. This domain I am working with is only currently externally accessible. When I go to it internally firefox tells me "Server not found".

    I am having a headache with DNS. Lets say my public IP is 1.2.3.4, my local IP is 192.168.0.10 and my domain is example.com I am running CentOS on a virtual machine (Parallels Desktop for Mac) with a LAN card reserved for it, so it gets Ip directly from the router. I have ports 80,443,53 forwarded to 192.168.0.10. Both Mac OS and CentOs firewalls are Off.     I have a self hosted server with Apache2 pointed with the domain example.com. I have also some virtual servers www.example.com, cloud.examle.com, etc. This server is in my LAN, and when I try to acces to my server within the lan throw www.examle.com y get my router's configuration page. From outside the LAN www.example.com and cloud.examle.com works properly. From inside the LAN 192.168.1.33 (server internal IP) shows the default webpage (www.examle.com), but I can not get cloud.examle.com I also have a LAN name server in 192.168.1.33 with bind9.   • Routing / binding 128 to one server

    I have a Ubuntu server with 128 ip's (static external ips 86.xx.xx.16), and I want to crawl pages thru different ip's. The gateway is xx.xxx.xxx.1, the main ip is xx.xxx.xxx.16, and the other 128 ip's are xx.xxx.xxx.129/255. I tried this configuration in /etc/network/interfaces but I doesn't work. It work if I remove the gateway for the aliases eth0:0 and eth0:1.   • named responding recursive on norecurse queries

    I have a server on which named is running. It is intercepted with another named server which it is not aware of. Querying the first named server results in timeouts. The server tries to resolve the query recursively. During that the firewall redirects the DNS Request from the first named server to the second one (the query from the first one is addressed to a e.g. a root server and has its "Recursion desired" bit set to 0). Despite that the second named responds to this request with a entirely or at least 1 level more resolved response than the first named server expects. So it ends up with a timeout even though it got a correct name server or even the full IP for the queried domain. In the first case the first name server tries to follow the authority domain ignoring the coresponding glue record and ends up in a loop it aborts: queried: google.com -> got from named#2: ns1.google.com -> ignore glue record and query: ns1.google.com -> got authority from named#2: google.com In the second case it ignores the answer section with the correct IP and instead tries to follow the name servers from the authority section, which ends up in the same dead end as case 1. So how can it be that the second named responds with recursive results even though the bit was explicitly set to 0 in the request from the first named?

  • Which libraries use the "We Know Where You Live" optimization for std::make_shared?

    Over two years ago, Stephan T. Lavavej described a space-saving optimization he implemented in Microsoft's implementation of std::make_shared, and I know from speaking with him that Microsoft has nothing against other library implementations adopting this optimization. If you know for sure whether other libraries (e.g., for Gnu C++, Clang, Intel C++, plus Boost (for boost::make_shared)) have adopted this implementation, please contribute an answer. I don't have ready access to that many make_shared implementations, nor am I wild about digging into the bowels of the ones I have to see if they've implemented the WKWYL optimization, but I'm hoping that SO readers know the answers for some libraries off-hand. I know from looking at the code that as of Boost 1.52, the WKWYL optimization had not been implemented, but Boost is now up to version 1.55. Note that this optimization is different from std::make_shared's ability to avoid a dedicated heap allocation for the reference count used by std::shared_ptr.   • Caching issue with Centos forwarding DNS server

    I installed a Forwarding DNS server on Centos 5.10 and it is resolving addresses e.g google.com. When I stopped named (service named stop) and tried to dig (dig @localhost A google.com) there was a failure to resolve the address. I checked and see the caching daemon nscd is running. Does this mean the server is not caching at all?   • When should .local be used?

    So, I've set up a few Win Servs in my time and always did the .local thing when there was a router that sepearated my internal from external networks. Now that I'm setting up an *nix box for the first time, does this concept still apply? Do I still want my FQDNs (/etc/hostname) to show .local or .com for all my machines (mixed: linux servers, win workstations) inside of my network. This question comes in context of always having Active Directory hold my hand every step of the way, where now I'm setting up an DNS machine manually.

  • Router as primary DNS server, Server as alternate? (or vice versa)

    We have a very small business network, with a typical cable modem hooked into a DD-WRT router. We also run a basic CentOS server that does a variety of things, including acting as the primary DNS server for the office. The reason we need an internal DNS server is because we do a lot of internal web development and use the DNS server to add/remove various local network URLs for internal website testing (like www.testsite.com.local). It's very important for us to be able to add/remove URL aliases easily to the DNS. The problem with this setup is that if we ever need to restart the CentOS server or take it offline for upgrades or whatever, then internet access for all computers on the network is lost. That's because each computer relies on that DNS server to access the Internet I guess? The router is online all the time and very very rarely has to be restarted. It would be nice if we could setup my router to be the primary DNS server but still be running DNS on my server. So we could still add my local testing website URLs to the DNS server in CentOS, but be able to also take down the CentOS server without loosing Internet access on the network. How would this be setup? Would I simply need to add both router + server IP addresses to each computer's IP settings? Is the router primary DNS and server secondary DNS server? Or vice versa? Or can one of the two serve as a fallback for the other? What (if anything) needs to be configured on both the router and server in order for them to recognize that the other DNS server exists on the network? Does anyone have any newb-friendly resources for setting up something like this?

    I followed this document to configure master-slave powerdns servers... http://linuxmanage.com/master-slave-powerdns-managed-by-poweradmin.html Installation completed perfectly no errors even I feel DNS is trying to resolve some queries and parameter.. but while going through intodns.com i get below error for domain names which i have created in powerdns name server installed as above guide. Error Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records. Error Multiple Nameservers ERROR: Looks like you have less than 2 nameservers. According to RFC2182 section 5 you must have at least 3 nameservers, and no more than 7. Having 2 nameservers is also ok by me. Error Missing nameservers You should already know that your NS records at your reported by your nameservers are missing, so here it is again: nameservers ns1.makeittiny.com. ns2.makeittiny.com. I am much new to powerdns so not able to figure out where problem.. i check all things but not able to make out where problem remains.

  • Configuring a backup DNS server

    I would like to setup a backup DNS server. I have added all my name servers in my domain name panel. (ns1.domain.com, ns2.domain.com, etc ...) If a person would try to go to domain.com and the first name server would fail, will it automatically try and use ns2.domain.com? All my DNS servers have the same master zones configured. Is that the way to go? Is it that easy or am I missing something here? :)

  • why my C++ output executable is so big?

    I have a rather simple C++ project, which uses boost::regex library. The output I'm getting is 3.5Mb in size. As I understand I'm statically linking all boost .CPP files, including all functions/methods. Maybe it's possible somehow to instruct my linker to use only necessary elements from boost, not all of them? Thanks.

  • domain works randomly

    Hi, I have problem with configuring bind9 on debian (lenny) server. Generaly speaking everything is working ok but sometimes I get 404 on few domains (eg. 4stopnie.com but after few refreshes in browser site loads) or I can't validate site with validator.w3.org (error '500 Can't connect to 4stopnie.com:80 (Bad hostname '4stopnie.com')'). Domains were moved from other server. After moving I changed serial number in zone file. $ttl 600 @ IN SOA ns.wpoznaniu.info. xxx.4stopnie.com. ( 2011011601 3600 600 86400 600) @ IN NS ns.wpoznaniu.info. @ IN A 80.82.21.196 www IN CNAME @
