  • Is SugarCRM really adequate for custom development?

    I used SugarCRM for a project about two years ago, I ran into errors from the very installation, having to hack the actual installation file to deploy the software in the server... and other erros that I can't recall now. Two years after, I'm picking it up for a project once again... oh dear, I'm feeling like I should have developed the whole thing from scratch myself. Some examples: I couldn't install it in the server (again)... I had to install it locally, then copy the files and database over to the server and manually edit the config file. Constantly getting deployment errors from the module builder... one reason is SugarCRM keeps creating a record in the upgrade_history table for a file that does not exist, I keep deleting such record and it keeps coming back corrupt. I get other deployment errors, but have not figured them out... then I have to rollback all files and database to try again. I deleted a custom module with relationships, the relationships stayed in the other modules and cannot be deleted anymore, PHP warnings all over the place. Quick create for custom modules does not appear, hack needed. Its whole cache directory is a joke, permanent data/files are stored there. The module builder interface disappears required fields. Edit the wrong thing, module builder won't deploy again... then pray Quick Repair and/or Rebuild Relationships do the trick. My impression of SugarCRM now is that, regardless of its pretty exterior and apparent functionality, it is a very low quality piece of software. This even scared me more: http://amplicate.com/hate/sugarcrm; a quote: I wis this info had been available when I tried to implement it 2 years ago... I searched high and low and the only info I found was positive. Yes, it's a piece of crap. The community edition was full of bugs... nothing worked. Essentially I got fired for implementing it. I'm glad though, because now I work for myself, am much happier and make more money... so, I should really thank SugarCRM for sucking so much I guess! I figured that perhaps some of you have had similar experiences, and have either sticked with SugarCRM or moved on to another solution. I'm very interested in knowing what your resolutions were -or your current situations are- to make up my own mind, since the project I'm working on is long term and I'm feeling SugarCRM will be more an obstacle than an aid.   • Create Custom Sized Thumbnail Images with Simple Image Resizer [Cross-Platform]

    Are you looking for an easy way to create custom sized thumbnail images for use in blog posts, photo albums, and more? Whether is it a single image or a CD full, Simple Image Resizer is the right app to get the job done for you. To add the new PPA for Simple Image Resizer open the Ubuntu Software Center, go to the Edit Menu, and select Software Sources. Access the Other Software Tab in the Software Sources Window and add the first of the PPAs shown below (outlined in red). The second PPA will be automatically added to your system. Once you have the new PPAs set up, go back to the Ubuntu Software Center and click on the PPA listing for Rafael Sachetto on the left (highlighted with red in the image). The listing for Simple Image Resizer will be right at the top…click Install to add the program to your system. After the installation is complete you can find Simple Image Resizer listed as Sir in the Graphics sub-menu. When you open Simple Image Resizer you will need to browse for the directory containing the images you want to work with, select a destination folder, choose a target format and prefix, enter the desired pixel size for converted images, and set the quality level. Convert your image(s) when ready… Note: You will need to determine the image size that best suits your needs before-hand. For our example we chose to convert a single image. A quick check shows our new “thumbnailed” image looking very nice.     I am trying to show the Days between NOW() and the dates (dd/mm/yy) in, either Column B or Column C - depending which one is NOT blank A B C 29/03/10 01/04/10 29/03/10 02/04/10 29/03/10 30/04/10 29/03/10 31/03/10 29/03/10 03/04/10 I currently have the formaul below and then drag it down, but it obviously means I need to go back and amend the 'errors'. =DAYS360(A1,B1) I always forget how to nest this type of NULL/BLANK thing so any help, or pointers to remember would be appreciated.     I have a spreadsheet in Open Office 3.0 Calc. The spreadsheets consist of the first sheet and an arbitrary number of additional sheets, each collecting data for a specific month. The Month sheets have an identical structure. The first sheet is supposed to provide an overview to the most important numbers in the month sheets. What I would like to do is this: Whenever I add a Month sheet, I want it to appear automatically in the Overview sheet with the structure given below. So, for each Month sheet, copy or reference some of the cells into the Overview sheet: {Referenced Sheet Name} | Fixed Header1 | Fixed Header2 | Fixed Header3 Fixed Label 1 | {CellRef 1} | {CellRef 2} | {CellRef 3} Fixed Label 2 | {CellRef 4} | {CellRef 5} | {CellRef 6} I know how do to this for just one sheet by hand, but I have no clue how to make OOO do this automatically for me.   • Changing the cell range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc

    Is there any way of changing the range of conditional formatting in LibreOffice Calc (version 3.6)? I have a set applied already to a range of cells, but there is no obvious way of changing which cells a given set of conditional formatting is applied to. I either have to copy and paste the formatting, which results in multiple entries in the conditional formatting (which makes it difficult to manage), or delete the entire thing and create a new one every single time I want to change the range of cells.     I know this should be the simplest thing, but coming up empty. ;-( I would like to create a keyboard shortcut ctrl-alt-P that opens a terminal window and runs a ping command: ping -c 4 somefixeddomain.com [Useful for quickly checking whether my internet connection is actually working.] I have attempted to do this (in Unity, Ubuntu v11.10) using: Settings > Keyboard > Custom Shortcuts filling in all the obvious stuff, but no luck. All ideas welcome.

  • Custom session: Window does not capture full screen area by default. 12.04

    I am trying to create a custom session by creating a custom.desktop file in /usr/share/xesessions folder. Remember this is not a gnome or some other session. I have created my own application for this session, which are simple. Case 1 Chrome Browser Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Internet Kiosk Comment=This is an internet kiosk Exec=google-chrome --kiosk TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue Chrome browser starts in kiosk mode but does not capture complete screen area. Some area is left at the bottom and right side of the screen. Case 2 Custom pyGTK app (Quickly) Contents of custom.desktop file [Desktop Entry] Name=Custom Kiosk Comment=This is a custom kiosk Exec=~/MyCustomPyGTKApp TryExec= Icon= Type=Application Issue My custom pyGTK app has window.fullScreen() in the code. That means it should open in full screen without the window chrome (and it does under the normal session). But that too, leaves lots of space around it. Need Help Can anyone tell me whats going on here. I think its some issue with borders as pointed out at http://www.instructables.com/id/Setting-Up-Ubuntu-as-a-Kiosk-Web-Appliance/?ALLSTEPS in Step 8 If by chance, Google Chromium is not stretched to the edges with the --kiosk switch enabled there is a simple fix. To stretch Chromium simply log in as your regular user and edit chromeKiosk.sh to not have the --kiosk switch. Then log in as the restricted user, click the wrench and choose options. Then on the Personal Stuff tab select Hide system title bar and use compact borders. Close the options screen and stretch Chromium to fit the monitor. Then go back into the options window and set it to Use system title bar and borders. After this is done, log out of your restricted user (might need to just reboot) and log into your regular user. Edit chromeKiosk.sh back to include the --kiosk switch again and Chromium should be full screen next time you log into the restricted user. If I were to use a custom pyGTK or a gtkmm app, how should I get around this issue. window.fullScreen() should occupy the complete screen area. This has to be done programmatically or in some other way that can scale. I have to deploy this on large number of machines located at different geographical areas. Doing it manually on every machine is not possible.

    I have a spreadsheet where there is one table with the headings: Coordinate, Lat, Long Another with headings Triangle, Coordinate 1, Coordinate 2, Coordinate 3, Area What this is for, is taking the triangles formed by the specified three coordinates' area based off of Girard's theorem, as they are all spherical triangles. I need to take the specific latitude and longitude values from the first table based on the coordinate numbers underneath the three coordinate headings in the second table. I hope this makes sense.     I want to create a custom Xmonad session that loads an .xsession script in my home folder. This is the original file I copied. This one works: [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=XMonad Comment=Lightweight tiling window manager Exec=xmonad Icon=xmonad.png Type=XSession This is my modified file, xmonad-custom.desktop. When I logout, then login choosing this "xmonad-custom", the screen just flashes and sends me back to the ubuntu login screen (as if it briefly logs in and out of the session): [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=XMonad Custom Comment=Lightweight tiling window manager Exec=/home/{username}/.xsession Icon=xmonad.png Type=XSession X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=gdm I also tried without the last line. I have never done any type of scripting or coding before and I have been teaching myself online by learning from the technet script centre and online forums.
